It was bound to happen eventually.
With rumors of great beasts roaming the shores of Yael, many mainlanders flocked across the sea to capture the exotic beasts. In no time at all, they returned with large scaled monsters, dangerously translucent serpents, and turtles that carried the earth. These traders traveled across the Mainland to parade the beasts, going from Matori to Zena and everywhere between. Soon enough, everyone had either seen the Yaeli beasts or at least heard of them.
And they were sure to hear about the beasts when they escaped.
With such little knowledge of the foreign creatures, the traders underestimated the animals. In no time at all, the Yaeli beasts escaped into the wilderness and ended up near your location. With new creatures all but knocking on your door, what do you do? Do you dare to try and tame them, or do you run them off back into the wilderness? You better hurry, because these creatures are lost and scared, and are sure to cause some damage before they are captured once more....
|| The Yaeli familiars have been spotted in the following locations: Tintural (Oba and Matori), Keldari (Jauhar/Chibale and Tale), Limbara (Sauti and Zena). Only individuals in set locations can encounter the specific familiars.
|| If you are located in Yael, respond to this prompt as if you witnessing a mainlander abducting one of the newly announced familiars. Do you step in or run away? Use the same rolls below, but instead of subduing the beast, you are rolling to test your success for freeing it.
This prompt will be resolved by each player rolling 1D100 to test their success. (You can only roll once - there are no reattempts!)
xxxxxPrentice must roll 60-100 to successfully subdue the beast. xxxxxStage 2 must roll 50-100 to successfully subdue the beast. xxxxxStage 3 must roll 40-100 to successfully subdue the beast xxxxxStage 4 must roll 30-100 to successfully subdue the beast.
|| Success or fail, completion of this event rewards you with 15 EXP!
|| If you roll a 95-100, you get to keep the familiar! Congrats!

The mountains were Ruelash's usual stomping grounds, the wilds his home, but today he was restless, uncertain. He felt like he was blowing in the wind, aimless and pulled to nowhere in particular. He was bothered by something in his soul, and he didn't like it. It was not a source of bother that he was used to.
Why did he feel like he'd failed Iroia? Why did he feel like he'd forgotten to do something important? Why did he feel bad? That was why he'd travelled back to Sauti, wasn't it? To try to find Votzhem? To try to ease the tossing and turning feeling in his chest?
He wanted that feeling to go away.
He bent down to look at a strange track, brushing it hopefully with his fingers. Whatever it was, it was big, and that meant that there would be a nice fight ahead.
Just the thing to distract him from strange and uncomfortable thoughts.

Aldren hated hunting. It was a necessary evil, of course. He did want to eat at some point in his future, and he distinctly didn't want his little sister to complain about hunger. Because there would be no sparing of his feelings if he allowed that to happen. Seph would let him have it. It didn't make the thought of hunting any more exciting or any more warm, though. Iceling or not, he still didn't want to be out in the freezing winds and tall feet of snow. And trying to gut anything while adorned in thick gloves and impossibly cold-numbed fingers was just not even moderately appealing. Suffice to say, much of the time Aldren spent 'hunting' would be more accurately described as 'piddling.' He wondered the mountains, staring at rocks and cliffs and snow, if that could be believed. Today was different, though. Despite being familiar, very familiar, with much of the terrain for dozens of miles around his home, something felt off. Something looked off, if the unusual lump of strangely colored stone off in the distance was any indication. Far be it for Aldren not to experience a nice new thing dropped to the earth right in front of him. With no degree of hesitancy, he moved off toward it.

It was a nice, fresh, clear trail. Not a challenge, but Ruelash didn't need a challenge at that moment. His life was complicated - he needed something easy to kill, something that would satisfy his frustrations and slake his aggression for a time. And give him meat and hide, too. Whatever it was was nearby. The trail faded on the hard stone of a rock face, and Ruelash stood atop it, peering out for the continuation of the trail. His eyes, used to rocks and rocks and more rocks and snow, and to softer and fluffier prey, passed right over the craggy beast as it rested, cold and miserable, under an outcrop of rock that barely gave it shelter. He didn't see it, but he did see another iceling down below. He grimaced. Great - he was not alone. They didn't look very threatening, or like they would be much of a fight, so he decided to simply crouch on top of the stones, watch them, and wait. He could go down later, after they'd gone, and see if he could rediscover the beast's trail amidst their footprints...

Maybe there'd been a rock slide. That sounded dangerous and unpleasant and painfully close to his home. Aldren supposed he should count himself fortunate that they fell in such a small, neat little stack. Almost too neat, like they'd been placed there intentionally. The young Iceling squinted warily at the pile of 'rocks' from several paces away, almost too nervous to approach any closer. Perhaps it was intentional, and someone had managed to make a makeshift shelter out of the stones. They looked awfully heavy, though. Maybe the work of a mage. Admittedly, this piqued his interest. His village was not full of a great many people, and none of them were skilled in magic. At least, not n the way Aldren hoped to become. Straightening, he approached the giant cluster with a bit more hesitance than when he'd started. "Hello?" He called out softly. When the rocks shifted, Aldren expected another Earthling to be revealed. Alas, such was not the case. The rocks picked themselves up, turned toward him, blinked and snorted. Suffice to say, Aldren was shocked. He yelped and lurched backward falling backward into the snow and scrambling away from the thing. What was it, and why, by the gods, was it here? It yawned, and bunched down into normal stone formation once again.

There was something below him, something other than the earthling. It rustled and rumbled, grunted and snorted, and creaked softly, like Oban armor. Ruelash was not known for his curiousity, but intrigued he was, none the less. Not particularly caring about the iceling, he made a quick, efficient, series of hops and clambers down to the bottom of the rock face... Or he would have, except one of his handholds was not, in fact, a rock. It moved, stirring again in annoyance and glowering at Ruelash with beady eyes before giving itself a shake, huffing unhappily, and returning to its attempted slumber. Ruelash landed on his feet and growled - rocks were not supposed to move, but that meant that, in all likelihood, he had found his quarry. Indeed, a glance at the ground told him that the tracks were here too. This was the creature he had followed. It was not a Sautian beast. "Hey. That yer pet?" he asked the iceling. Killing someones pet was an honest mistake to make, but it was also not something he wanted to happen to him, either. Hadn't he heard someone tell him to "do unto others?" Well there. Done. And if the kid was a brat about it, Ruelash would kill it anyway, have his fight, and get some exciting action out of it, too.

This thing was as big as a house! Foreign and weird, and if he could get past that shell armor, there would likely be enough meet to feed him and his baby sister for many moons to come. The prospect was tempting. Not that he had any idea how to go up against such a beast with any of the weaponry available to him. And it could probably do some terrifying damage if he made it angry. The thought was interrupted when another Iceling appeared from the cliffs and made his way down. Aldren blinked at him and scratched abashedly at the back of his head. "Well, no, it's not. I've no idea what it is, to be honest..." He glanced back to the creature. "I was thinking of eating it, but I guess it might be poison. Or just not taste very good." he gave a short laugh. "Maybe best not to eat things I don't know the origin of."

So not his pet. "'kay." Then Ruelash could fight it without any stupid idiocy and whining. He heard the boy vaguely - his attention was on the big rock monster and not some snot earthling - and, despite how he felt about everyone else, the boy did make sense. If you could kill it, it had lots of meat. Smoked and preserved, that could feed a whole family - even Sauron's family - for weeks, at least, if they weren't careful about how much they ate, and just ate that for all their meals. But it wasn't Sautian. It was almost Jahuaran, like something crossed a Jahuar bug with some Oban animals. It might be poisonous, and so not good to eat. "Huh." he said, the cobwebby wheels of his head turning sluggishly. He smirked. Well, if it was poisonous, then the kid could have its meat. Ruelash would have the fight. Without any regard for the boy behind him, Ruelash - after a moment of pacing around the beast - leapt for a c***k in the beast's armor, swords bared.

The guy wasn't much of a talker, was he? Aldren stalled, feeling awkward as the strange Ice man grunted and hummed at him in response to what seemed like a great deal more conversation on his part. He ran a hand through the back of his curls and glanced to the snow at his feet, then back to the massive stone beast. The thing really did look truly miserable. No matter which part of the world it came from, it wouldn't be used to these temperatures. Poor thing. "Y'know, there's probably not much reason to bother it if it can't be eaten. It looks like it's suffering enough without adding strange men staring at- Hey!" By the time Aldren dragged his attention back to the other, he was leaping for the creature with blades drawn. The thing made a deep rumble of a sound as it picked itself up to its full height. It tossed its head, and as it opened its mouth, Aldren caught a glimpse of a very full maw of teeth. Nothing that hailed from Zena had a bit like that. He reached for the stranger's arm, grabbing at him and yanking back with all the strength he could muster. "Hey, I don't think we want to get involved with that thing if we don't have to. Might get ugly."

Wooo, that was some mouth it had! Ruelash was looking forward to fighting it... was, because the brat had decided to interfere, ruining his awesome leap. You didn't do that to a person, you just didn't, and only certain people were allowed to do that to him... without becoming a target themselves. This boy wasn't one of them. Ruelash shoved the boy away, mood souring quickly from eager anticipation to annoyance. "So?!" he growled belligerently. Was he implying that Lash couldn't take the beast? Lash knew he totally could, and was perfectly willing to rough up this bratling to prove it.

Aldren was not especially strong. Neither was he especially weak, but in the face of a man who was physically powerful enough to be considered 'strong' by much of the world, the younger Iceling certainly felt weak. He let out a quiet grunt as he was shoved and staggered back. The heavy snow and angled step caught him off guard, and he toppled over, bum-first, into the unforgiving frozen wasteland. His lashes flit shut, and he muttered a quiet, "No point in shoving..." It didn't seem quite right that this stranger should sound so upset at him for trying to help. It wasn't as if he was stealing or lying or worse. He was just trying to look out for passerby. Aldren didn't want this animal's blood needlessly shed, and he didn't want this man to lose an arm to those teeth. He was in the right, of that he was certain. With a soft hum, he rose back to his feet and dusted snow clods from his rear. "You yelling is probably just going to make it angry and it'll probably do something neither of us'll like. Not that I'm an expert or anything, but it's not really a risk you want to take, is it?"

Yes was probably not the correct answer, but 'Lash didn't care. Nor did he care much for this little brat's tone. "You saying I can't take it? Huh?" he said, looming over the kid. "Is that it?" The beast had had enough. With a gutteral Grrrah it slammed it's tail at the rock face. Perhaps it was trying to achieve a loud sound to shut up the small, loud things. Perhaps it was trying to scare them. It was probably, by the sound of it's confused Grrah?! not expecting the rockslide that tumbled towards them, though it was protected by the ledge.

Such needless and inappropriate anger. Aldren stared back at the older man. He wasn't used to being 'loomed' over, considering the fact that he was quite tall himself, compared to Earthling standards, but he supposed, in this instant, it was just the other man's nasty attitude that made him look larger. Aldren stared back at him though, brows furrowing slightly as he opened his mouth. But he closed it again. Saying much of anything didn't seem like it would do him much good. He wasn't trying to be offensive, though, in all honestly, he had no way of knowing if this guy could 'take' the creature of not. Aldren thought to say as much. 'You look here, weird old guy-' But the words never left his lips, for the next instant was completely overtaken by the deep rumbling sound coming from the disturbed beast. And then, when it quieted, a much more foreboding crackling and shattering and crumbling sound followed. The younger man's golden gaze flicked upward. The snowy cragsides were a dangerous place to argue. Moreso when large, heavy creatures exacerbated the precarious rock formations. Aldren's heart lurched and his arm snapped out to tangle in the dense fabric of the other Iceling's sleeve. "Forget it!" He snapped. "You can fight whatever you want after you don't get crushed by rocks or trapped in a snowbank." He took a step and yanked his captive limb as he did. "Let's go!"

Oh, hey, a rockslide... ... Chi's breath, a rockslide! Ruelash fought anything, but rockslides and avalanches were not things that were fight-able. They were forces of nature, there to crush anything in their path that didn't get the heck out of the way. In this case, the little runt had the right idea. Ruelash sheathed his blades and ran for it - it just so happened that the easiest path was in the direction that he was pulled. Uncaring, bloodthirsty stones crushed themselves on the ledge where the two had stood, before tumbling further below. Finally, in a spot where stones did not seek to break him (or, well, them), Ruelash rested, panting, watching the dust settle. That had been exhilerating. In truth, any test against nature's might was more exhilerating than any fight with any beast, but this one still intrigued him. It had been like nothing he'd ever seen before, and any beast mighty enough to unleash primal and deadly forces like that was worth meeting, and fighting, and possibly showing to Iroia and Volka. ... Iroia and Volka... Now he needed to hit something again. A bray sounded from a nearby rock, far from the action. A dark, lean, nimble shape, not really a mountain creature, glared at him with amber eyes. Direk was calling him a fool again... he was glad she wasn't hurt...

Ah, he really should've known better, having grown up in this area for the entirety of his life. But then, how was he supposed to know anything about strange foreign creatures lost in these parts? That giant, shelled, rocky-looking beast was an anomaly, an unknown. Aldren couldn't possibly have known what to expect out of that thing. Still, he was grateful to have escaped immediate harm. No Earthlings had been injured during the length of these escapades, although... Aldren glanced off toward where the unfamiliar beast had rested. He couldn't say the same for it. Hopefully it was alright, though he wasn't about to risk himself to go find out. Instead, he let out a grateful, exhilarated rush of air and flopped backward into the snow. Heart still hammering from the impromptu run, he golden gaze flicked shut, and he smiled upward toward the sky. "Well, that was sure some peculiar something, wasn't it? We're lucky things didn't take a downward turn." Aldren's eyes flicked open, and he shot a frown toward the great blue expanse above him. "Well, they did, I suppose. Turn downward, that is, what with the snow falling, and all. But not on us. So that's always nice." He sat up and dusted white powder crystals from the back of his inky blue locks. "Anyway, hope that teaches you not to disturb strange beasts that you don't know nothing about. They could cause iceslides. Or maybe the gods cause it, if they didn't like what you were saying. Either way, look here, weird old guy, you stay out of trouble. Especially if you're ever around my home again."
