There comes a time in everyone's life where they reflect on past decisions and actions, only to come to a conclusion about one's self. Call it whatever you will, but it was inevitable. Life had a way of proving you either right, or wrong, and you never quite knew which one it was until you reflected. Right?

Right?

As the mare stood at the top of a high cliff, overlooking the grassy plains below, she contemplated everything that had led her to this moment. She had what she would easily call a very, very grand life, filled with loving parents, loving siblings, and all the freedom she could ask for. Not that she'd....ever go searching for something more, but she knew she could, if she wanted to. Her life had been amazing - her childhood, simple, and fun, her young adult life not so challenging even in the least! It was perfect! Her father, Bliss, lived up to his name in every single way possible, and her mother, Evelyn, had been the clutch that held the family together; everyone and everything was....perfect. She couldn't possibly have ever wished for anything but!

And yet, something was...missing.

Eloise couldn't quite figure what it was, and had spend the better part of the last two weeks trying to understand. Taking off from the comfort of her parent's little grove, she had been given permission to go off on her own and just, explore. Understand. The world was full of possibilities - endless, exciting, and well, dangerous. But that meant it was all the more worth it, right? Danger had it's downs, not to sound ridiculous, but....the world had so much to offer, she couldn't pass up an opportunity to understand! Her family, her life, up until this point had been everything she wanted and more, but now....she was Eloise - explorer extraordinaire! Ready to take on the world, one day at a time!

Then, she found herself at a loss for what was next. As she stood on that hill, the mare thought back to every decision she made in the past two weeks, and frowned. She had gone into this thinking she'd come out of it a changed mare, a better, strong, smarter mare, and yet, two weeks in and nothing had happened. What was that! Impatience, probably, she figured, but....had she made the wrong decisions - the safe ones? She had met a few Soquili, but nothing stuck; was it her? Was she not friendly enough, or too friendly? Ugh so many questions! She had also, unfortunately, (or fortunately? Her parents would probably argue the latter), not come across anything dangerous. How...typical! Eloise had been so fortunate in her life, and still remained as pleasant and as happy and safe as ever.

How...boring.

Shhhhh, she thought, giggling loudly. Don't tell Momma, she'd kill me. Evelyn was a wonderful mother and Eloise wouldn't have it any other way, but she was much more....vibrant than either of them expected, and Eloise had always suspected that it bothered her mother. She was much more full of life than her older brothers were (whom she never met, but...knew about), and she chalked it up to being the baby of two very old, settled Soquili. She loved them, but, life was meant to be lived!

Life was meant to be lived. She loved life - she loved everything about her life, but....something was still missing. Eloise knew it deep down within her heart that something was definitely missing. Maybe she really was making the wrong decisions, maybe she really did need to step out of her box and walk on the wild side.

Oh goodness her mother would absolutely strangle her.

Every step felt as painful as the last; how long had he been walking? Time seemed irrelevant at this point, as his eyes glazed over and the pain started to overcome him. He couldn't breath normal, he noticed after a while, which was a surefire sign that something was definitely wrong. Well, judging by the current state he was in, something was definitely wrong regardless, but this was different. This was...final? He had his suspicions that he probably wouldn't make it through the night. Those damned kalonas getting the best of him, how could he let his guard down so much? When it happened, he had been scouting the area for danger, and they came from all sides. As skilled as Grey Worm was with his spear, it could only do so much, so it didn't take long for the group to overwhelm him. The shock of the random attack had been enough to steer him off his game, but these kalona were also tough, something that Grey Worm wasn't expecting. Sure, he knew that there were tough creatures out there, but he had been raised since birth to be one of the strongest warriors - capable to overpower even the biggest of foes, and had always been successful. His birth had meant nothing but training, and he took it very, very seriously. To be bested by a group of kalonas was disappointing, to say the least.

But he didn't have time to worry himself over it right now, for right now his survival skills leaped into action. The group had left him to die, or had run off in fear of his strength - it was too hazy to tell which was which - and he was able to pull himself up and attempt to get to safety. Exactly where safety was, was still something he didn't bother to think about. Fight, fight, fight - is what he did, and now it was survive, survive, survive. He couldn't....he couldn't do it on his own though. Find the Khalasar - how long was he gone? How far did he travel? Would they notice his absence and go looking for him, if he died right there?

Dehydrated and disoriented, the large statured stallion caught his body next to a massive oak tree on the edge of the forest, and stood there for what seemed like an eternity. Blood spilled onto the ground beneath his hooves as he stood, wondering just exactly how much more he'd lose before it would take him. How long had he been out there?

And better yet, why had they attacked? There hadn't been any cause for concern prior to the attack, he was scouting the area for something - anything - just in case. Never one to leave an area unchecked, it was a morning and nightly routine, and there was hardly ever a problem, save for the random few annoying Soquili along the way. Most of the times, it was just him, and he was doing his job. Grey Worm had left the post at the Khalasar in search of more things (but never permanent, his duty was to his post), and it had been a while since he had been away from his post, so...boredom took over. What was he searching for, exactly? Danger? It didn't find him that often, and when it did well...this happened.

The large stallion felt foolish and he continued to stand there, blinking rapidly as his vision started to go. No - no! This was...not good, not good! He was...he was...

And then, before he officially lost it, spotted the young mare atop the hill about 50 yards away. With another loud groan, he hoped that she'd see him.

And do what? What? He didn't know, he didn't care, he was....

And just like that, her world turned upside down. Or right-side up? Couldn't she say both, given the circumstances? There she was, minding her own business (and thinking about adventure), when out of nowhere - adventure found her! Call it fate, call it destiny, call it whatever you wanted, but it was here, at her doorstep! Oh! The joy, the wondrous, wondrous --!!

Eloise, stop thinking and move, her inner voice screamed at her, as she was doing a happy dance over finding something exciting. Oh, right, the stallion. She frowned; from her spot on the hill, she couldn't quite tell what was up with him, but the loud groan that escaped him as he collapsed told her it probably wasn't good. And as she stood there, elated over finding something new, who knows what kind of pain or trouble he could have been in! Oh! She was so selfish!! Scrambling down the hill, Eloise darted in his direction, shouting word of worry at him as she got closer. He wasn't responding, which told her to move faster, and as she did, she silently thanked the heavens for this little gift of excitement. Whatever or whomever he was, at least it made her day a bit more colorful.

"Ohmygoodnessblood," she breathed, as she got close enough to realize just how much of a wild situation she was walking into. He was not just hurt, but presumably dying, and oh! Dear. She couldn't possibly be of any help. She was just a young mare! Eloise frowned, darting her head from tree to tree in search of something, something to help stop the bleeding. Her parents never taught her these kinds of survival skills - geez! What was a girl to do? Clot it, her instincts told her, use force, whatever that meant. However terrified she was, and however.....passed out the stallion was, Eloise couldn't help but feel a little bit of a thrill as she frantically searched for her next move. This wasn't exactly what she had in mind, but....it would do. Ohho, it would definitely do! If only her parents could see her now.

Butwhatintheworldwasshesupposedtodo. What in the world was she supposed to do!! Deep breaths, she told herself, and began surveying the surrounding area for anything that looked like it could be stable, all the while listening for any sign of danger. This stallion was bleeding, and whomever caused it might not be that far behind....and she was definitely not in fit shape to be fighting off an enemy. Or anyone, for that matter. Another frown, oh boy, oh goodness....this was definitely above her expertise.

And like magic found only in stories, there lay a piece of cloth, seemingly left behind by a two-legger at some point, underneath a nearby oak tree. Psshh, that was basically impossible, she mused, as she hustled over to grab it and bring it back to the stallion. Out of all the places and all the things she could have found, it was exactly what she needed, where she needed it?!! What was this, a fairy-tale? Oh, she'd ponder the possibilities later - right now she needed to focus on stopping his wounds. Hurrying back to Grey Worm, Eloise plopped the cloth down on the wound that seemed to be causing the most damage, and pressed her body weight down on top of it, as if to act as the pressure itself. But...it didn't seem to be working, and worse yet, caused the stallion to let out a groan in response.

Well, so much for fairy-tale.

"Help!" She shouted, as the precautions she noted earlier went flying out the window when she realized she was honestly no help. Someone else, anyone else, could do a better job than she. The cloth was still laying on top of the stallion, so when no response could be heard, she resumed her crazy idea of pressure-pointing the wound, hoping that whatever strong force she had within her was enough to at least do something until help arrived. She maneuvered herself so she could lie her head down upon the cloth, her neck outstretched across the large stallion's flank. This was the most terrifying, yet exhilarating thing she's ever done. It was in the excitement that flowed through her veins that she forgot who and where she was, and as a light flashed into her eyes, felt herself drift off into...into....

...who was there? What was happening...

"Hmpfh." A groan, telling the world he was awake, but unsure of what had happened to him. The last thing he remembered was a mare...rushing toward him like lightening, and then...black. Now...he was alive? Still? What had happened, had she saved him? Nothing had come back to him in memory, and he dared not open his eyes for fear of the headache that was sure to follow. He just needed to rest...to sleep, to...regain his strength.

Yes. That. Whatever that was. He needed....,".....", his voice was wordless, but it moved, and unbeknownst to him, she had watched as he woke, and then drifted back off, smiling happily.

"What?"

"It's okay you can rest, I passed out after you did, but like a true fairy-tale, we had a savior! Isn't that kind of ridiculous?"

The voice, soft, soothing; it warmed his still-beating heart as his conscious drifted in and out, his body and his head pounding. He couldn't quite tell if it was okay to trust the voice, and normally he'd be on his guard to not trust anyone he didn't know, but he wasn't exactly in a position to protect himself, much less talk himself out of a sticky situation, so he listened to the mare, and didn't move a muscle for quite some time.

Grey Worm's mind raced as he laid there, trying to recall the events from the previous day (or was it plural?, how long was he out for?). He had been in plenty of fights and battles of all sorts before, and had always survived (not without a little scar to remember it by), but this was somehow a little different. This...he mused, could have been his last breath, if whomever or whatever was there, wasn't there. He made a mental note to thank her when he woke, if she was still there. Hopefully. He couldn't imagine why she wouldn't be, but, then again, couldn't imagine why she would be, anyway. His thoughts had gone delirious as the pain continued, wincing, and unable to comprehend how it was he was still breathing.

Was this mare an enemy, softening him up only to destroy him the moment he opened his eyes? Her voice didn't sound like it...

Speaking of her, this mare, the voice...she had spoken to him a few times as he drifted in and out, losing all connection to the real world and the concept of time. She spoke to him as if they were longtime friends; she gave him comfort in his dark world of the unknown. She laughed, her laughter as angelic as her voice, and it caused his heart to soar. If he ever did wake up, and she was still there, he'd have a thing or two to tell her. But...how to word it? Grey Worm was never one for speech. He had been raised a fighter, not a wordsmith...

But she...she had made him happy, even when happiness wasn't a concept in his unconscious mind.

In his delirium, he had called her an angel.

She hadn't believed him.

It was true her temperament hoovered vaguely over a more modest tone, but...she hadn't done much of anything to really help the stallion, let alone deserve the title of an angel. However, that word, echoing in her mind hours after it was whispered, stuck with her. An angel was different to everyone, or so it was assumed; they took forms of glorious, righteous creatures, spewing wisdom and comfort and she was just Eloise. Just Eloise. Raised by two extremely loving, normal parents. There was nothing special attached to her background, her heritage....or her name. And yet, when he spoke the word, she felt it. What if this was a moment meant to be? What if they had been sent by some in-explainable force to guide each other. Perhaps that's why she felt compelled to stay. Prior to this stallion, her journey was hers, and hers alone. Prior to this...she was a nomad, when she could afford to be one. Now it had been many, many hours since she left their spot beneath a tree. She had been hoping for a bit of a grand adventure, and now she was here, nursing a complete stranger back to health and having no clue what she was really doing every step of the way. It was wonderful.

She was a young mare in a very big world, learning first-hand what the universe was capable of. It truly was wonderful.

If she went back and told her sister about this, Eloise doubted Eleanor would believe her for a minute. It seemed almost other-worldly, yet, it was happening, and he was breathing slowly, right next to her

But she needed him to wake up!! She needed company -- the in and out of his consciousness wasn't exactly up to par with what she was expecting by now. Nudging his frame with her own, the mare noted just how much bigger he was than her, as the pressure of her body didn't seem to move him at all. Another push. A giggle. He was as thick as a bear! And he could sleep like one too! How much longer would it take for him to wake up, and stay awake? She wanted to see if he was going to be okay!

...Not to mention....she was getting rather bored. But, true to her underlying nature, she would not leave him. Not until she knew he was good to stand on his own. Another push - and oh! A grunt! Eloise perked up, ears listening for another sign of consciousness. If she could coax him out of it, maybe he'd be on the fast track to healing!
