Things we know so far:
• During the Star Wars Celebration, director Gareth Edwards said Rogue One will be grittier than any other Star Wars film. It will focus on the on-the-ground, war aspect of the Star Wars universe.
• The people at Making Star Wars, the folks responsible for a lot of TFA leaks and spoilers, claim that Darth Vader will return in Rogue One, and will be more violent and deadly than ever.
• Some of the costumes used in the movie were on display at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany, and were leaked by a user on Twitter. You can check them out here.
• Donnie Yen, one of the actors in Rogue One, posted a picture on Instagram of what appears to be some of the helmets used in Rogue One. He quicly deleted the post, but you can still check them out here.

Oh, thanks for making this thread! I had not looked up ANYTHING on Rogue One so far... the teaser looks really cool.
I don't know how I feel about the movie being more about the on-the-ground war since the spaceship battles are my favourite part about Star Wars, though.
But I'm definitely excited. I just hope they don't take the "gritty" bits too far. I always enjoyed Star Wars being kinda... nice and sweet.
Will it be as gritty as the Clone Wars CGI show, though? For something aimed at kids, that went straight into horrors-of-war territory.
Before that, I would have said that nuance and grit didn't really belong in Star Wars. But I was wrong! Done right, it can be amazing.
Of course, done wrong...well, let's just say if they screw up Darth Vadar, they'll screw up the whole movie--even if his total screen time is only a tiny fraction of the run time.

I think the prequels prove this is true. biggrin (I don't hate them like a lot of people do. But I can't help feeling like they could have been so much better.) But that just means they need to hurry up and do all the prequels that involve Vader now, while James Earl Jones is still able and willing to provide the voice.
I have high hopes for Rogue Squadron. The cast is solid, and that counts for a lot.
I'm not as impressed as I thought I'd be. Mostly because the girl looks like a really annoying character.
But I've been very wrong about characters before, so I'll hope for the best.
The AT-ATs looked amazing though.

Some of my thoughts after watching the trailer a few times:
I'm loving the vibe of this movie. It's definitely going to be a wartime, Saving Private Ryan type of setting. It looks so gritty and awesome, and that is what I was really hoping for from Rogue One.
The new troopers look so sick! The photo of the helmets (in the first post) that leaked is legit. We were able to see the tan troopers in the background of one of the shots. I can't wait to see what them and the Shadowtroopers are all about. I've read rumors online that the Shadowtroopers are like a Spec Ops, get s**t done, team of Stormtroopers.
I'm really excited for the new characters. Felicity Jones looks great as the lead. How cool is the name Jyn Erso? She seems like a real badass. Donnie Yen's Kung Fu master type character is gonna be so cool. I'm really glad something like that was added to the Star Wars universe. In the cast photo, it looks like he could be blind. I wonder how that will come into play. Maybe he's Force-sensitive and sees using the Force like the Miraluka. Forest Whitaker as a Shadowtrooper! Ben Mendelsohn's Imperial character, dressed in all white, looked very scary. I can't wait to see what kind of role he'll play. Diego Luna's character looks like he could be that rogue-ish Han Solo type of character. A few actors that I was excited for that we didn't get to see (correct me if I'm wrong) are Alan Tudyk's motion capture character, Mads Mikkelsen, and Riz Ahmed from Nightcrawler. Hopefully we see more of them in the possible trailer at Star Wars Celebration.
I'm really wondering who that hooded, Sith-looking guy was. Darth Vader is rumored for being in Rogue One, but I don't think he'd be wearing a hooded robe. Also interesting is that he was kneeling in front of what looks like a Bacta tank. I'm wondering who would be inside it. Maybe the Emperor? So could there be a new Sith/Dark Side character?
I'm kind of sad we didn't get any shots of Darth Vader. It is only a rumor at this point that he's in the movie, but the rumor was started By Making Star Wars, who were responsible for a lot of TFA spoilers and leaks. They also came out with the rumor that Felicity Jones' character's name would be Jyn Erso, which was confirmed in the trailer. If he is in the movie, I'm wondering why he wasn't in the trailer. Maybe it's going to be a big reveal?
The final shot of Jyn Erso in an Imperial uniform with Forest Whitaker's line of "What will you become?" could be foreshadowing her defecting and joining the Imperials. I think we're supposed to think that though, and she was probably just going undercover to infiltrate the Death Star.
Overall, the trailer was great and I'm so hyped for Rogue One. I can't believe we're getting another Star Wars movie so quickly. The marketing for TFA just ended with the release of the blue-reys, and they wasted no time getting people excited for Rogue One. There's no brakes on the Star Wars hype train!
Maybe this time the main character actually has a father who is alive and well lol

Also, congrats on the pilot suit item! It looks sooo good! It is too cool that it came out on May the 4th! ;D I'll have to wait a while before getting one though, they're like 35b in the MP right now. x_x

SOMEHOW they'll have to kill off the protagonists, right? O: I hope they actually dare to do this instead of making up some bullshit excuse why none of them appeared in Episode IV
