It had been a long time since she'd revisited those thoughts. It was the question that had defined her being for as long as she could remember. When she lay awake at night it haunted her, thoughts marred by glowing embers, flames lapping at her hooves.
Who... Was she?
The rumination stewed in her brain from the very day she woke up in this once unfamiliar land with not a spot of memory to guide her. Everything terrified her at first, but now she'd grown accustomed to the strange soquili that were not like her herd. No longer was a kelpi or kalona a curious sight to see when walking through the woods. She had grown comfortable in this life, she'd made a few friends, had a purpose even. While she lived in seclusion, the local herds often called upon her when they needed someone to tend the wounded.
Yet, when she made her way to the river and looked at her reflection as she drank she couldn't help but feel the longing, the desire to know what things used to be like. What she was like. What her family was like. The cerynei mare was unfulfilled and she couldn't help but dwell on the past she couldn't recall as she grazed along the riverbank. xX Green Tea Tree Xx I hope this works. >-< <3

It was a quiet day for Thaddeus and he appreciated the calm, though he was always up for something lively. Sparring, adventuring, something that rushed the adrenaline, those were all good things in the proud Cerynei's book. While there were those who claimed to be strictly fighters or lovers, the silver toned stallion believed he was a mix of both. Thaddeus could enjoy a fight just like any other seasoned warrior, but he was also able to find peace in his environment.
He strolled through the woods his gentle steps defying the bulky build of his body. For being someone so large and intimidating in stature compared to others, Thaddeus was probably had one of the biggest hearts. Sure, he liked to seek trouble out every now and then, but it was only meant in good fun; no reason to stir up something that got someone seriously hurt. Even as he walked along the forest floor, Thaddeus' mind wandered to something livelier, retelling stories of grand adventures and tales of selfless warriors who braved the most treacherous of tasks. These were all things Thaddeus admired and surely others would see that he possessed all their heroic qualities and more. He didn't want any rewards or trophies for being who he was, he just wanted to be a good example to the foals and young ones that were still learning and finding their way.
Perhaps part of the reason he put on a brave face and was ready to protect whomever whenever was due to the fact that he had been there when the fire had driven his people from the land. He had been there when so many had lost their families and had watched as the burning crimson engulfed the woodlands. Back then he had lost so much, but... Thaddeus shook his head, brows pulled into a frown. "No reason to dwell on the past. It's always best to focus on the now," he spoke aloud to himself as a reminder to persevere on his current life and not get stuck on the could-have-beens and the would-have-beens.
It wasn't long before he came to the river that separated several her territories in the area and the great stallion followed the current by walking on the river bank. Within moments he stumbled upon a fellow Cerynei, one that he was sure he had seen when passing through his herd's territory to go off on some great adventure that he had schemed up. The mare was familiar, oh so familiar... why couldn't he place it? "Hello there," he bellowed heartily, a friendly grin spread across his face, "enjoying the day with a walk through the forest?" His approach was slow as he made his way closer to her; he was well aware of how intimidating he could be due to his size. Thaddeus ducked his head in a small gesture of greeting before offering his fellow Cerynei a wide grin. "You seem familiar to me... You've passed through the herd territories here frequently, haven't you?"cursedandwandering Ahhh, I hope this is alright xD I feel like I might have gotten a bit carried away.

xX Green Tea Tree Xx XD that is never a problem! Huh? An unfamiliar voice reached her fluffy ears and Irena swung her head up in surprise. The shy mare couldn't help but gawk at the larger stallion, face frozen mid-chew. From first glance it was clear he was a warrior with his massive bulk and Irena was no stranger to fighters. When things broke out she tended to be close by with bandages and herbs in hoof. However she wasn't much made for conversation. She gaped wordlessly for a moment, looking up at him through her lashes when it finally registered she was surprised to see that he was another Cerynei. Another of her kind. It'd been so long...
Pain shot through her skull like lightening as Irena gazed upon him, images colored gray with smoke danced in her head for a single split second. A glimpse. A group of foals. No. Not a group, a class. A class of children leaping over smoldering logs as the forest burned down around them. The screams. The thundering crack of a tree as it came toppling down amongst them. Parents calling out in frantic search. And the smell. The god awful smell of burning hair and flesh.
The scarred mare shook her head, a wince escaping her. No. No. No. This wasn't right. None of it was right.
"Hi. I-" Her head was fuzzy, an angry buzzing hive of thoughts and none of them pleasant. "I- I don't. I don't think we've m-met, but... But you might of seen me?" She gulped, shifting her gaze back towards the stream. Sucking in air, she struggled to regain her ability to speak. He was just another stallion. She probably had never met him. "I help out sometimes. W-with wounds i mean. Around here."

Thaddeus watched the mare with a wide grin, blue eyes sparkling with jovial energy. Sure, most of the soquili he had encountered over the years were stunned by his size, but he hoped that one day that would be different... or that they would at least stick around long enough to see that he was anything but intimidating. Sure, he was loud and sometimes a little too rambunctious, but Thaddeus was never deliberately scary.
This introduction seemed to be going no differently than the rest, as the tan pelted Cerynei stared at him in mild shock and he was left to stand, still smiling, and wait for a response and some sort of positive reaction. He waited and waited, only to see her wince and mover her head down. That wasn't the reaction he had been expecting. The stallion's brows furrowed and he cocked his head to the side to ponder the moment. The words he had offered surely hadn't been offensive and Thaddeus had been on his best behavior and offered the blonde mare a friendly smile in typical Thaddeus fashion. There were plenty of time he had met shy individuals but even they had never winced at the sight of him. Perhaps he had intruded upon her in poor timing...
Gray ears flickered at the sound of a soft voice and the stallion's grand smile was on his face in seconds. So he hadn't offended her, she was simply much quieter than he had anticipated. He crept a little close towards her, but stayed within a reasonable distance. Thaddeus was a gentleman, after all! He hummed at her reply, a deep, reverberating sound that filled the air, as he gave it thought.Yes, he had seen her in passing, but he was sure he had seen her before. With a deep huff from his nose, Thaddeus turned his great head so he could look at her, eyes lighting up. "I knew you looked familiar! To think I had never introduced myself to the one who took care of so many. What terrible manners I have." The gray colored stallion ducked his head lowly in exasperated shame before lifting it so he was relatively at eye-level with the quiet Cerynei next to him and flashed her a grin. "My name is Thaddeus, it's a pleasure to meet you!" cursedandwandering Ahh, I'm sorry if this isn't great > >;; Let me know if you'd like me to edit it so there's a little more to work with.
