 Niamh was sitting on a picnic table outside the Academy. She was BORED. All her friends were off doing other stuff today, and she didn't have anyone at all to play with. She'd finished her book, and really was feeling too hyper to start another one. She wished some one would come play, because really... This was too much for her small patience to handle.
"WHERE IS everyone, I mean come on!" She grumbled.

 Allumin knew his jackalopes required some time outdoors. Just like he needed his lotions to stay healthy, they needed sun and air and grass and all that other good stuff. Radiance flitted around him in short little jumps while he walked with a book in hand. Allumin was attempting to study up a bit on the properties of gemstones, with Baron draped lazily across his shoulders. From time to time the purple jackalopes nose twitched against Allumins head fins, causing him to tilt his head a bit at the tickling sensation. Radiance stopped her flitting and performed a little headbutt against Allumins ankle, before turning to take notice of Niamh by the picnic table. The pale jackalope stood up on her hind paws, her nose twitching as she stared at the little girl.

Niamh looked up, and noticed a pretty little jackalope nearby. White, with some rainbow on it! "Oh hello there!" She said, happily. "You're pretty!" She glanced past her, and noticed the man with the other jackalope sitting near the one she saw first. "Is she yours, sir? Can I pet her?"

Allumin lifted his eyes from the page he was reading and blinked at the little girl when she spoke to him. "Oh. Well I can't really say I own her. Most times it feels like she owns me." Allumin spoke with a slight smile. "You can pet her if she lets you. Just hold your hand out to her and give her a moment to decide you aren't going to try to eat her. Her name is Radiance by the way." He informed the little girl.

"Radiance... That's pretty, sir!" She smiles and holds out her hand to Radiance, her two tone eyes focused on the pretty little jackalope. "Hi Radiance... I'm Niamh. You're pretty... And colorful, like me!" She tilted her head, hoping Radiance would allow Niamh to pet her. "What's your other friend's name? And yours?" She added, with a guileless innocence.

Allumin closed his book and tucked it under one arm while the little girl called out to Radiance. The pale jackalope flapped her wings once, then held still as stone while she peered at Niamh. "My name is Allumin." The nixie introduced himself, the he reached up with his free hand to scratch the purple Jackalopes head by his shoulder. "And this little lord here is Baron." At this point Radiance seemed to judge Niamh somewhat safe. She came down from her wary stance and crept over to sniff at the girls hand cautiously. Gently Radiance nosed Niamh's hand. "There we go. I think she's decided you might be safe. Radiance is easily spooked so just go slowly with her, and don't try to pick her up, Okay? She might bite you if you do."

"Allumin. I like that. It's different, I've never heard a name like that!" She said, as if she was actually old enough to have known many people and many names. "Allumin and Baron. It's nice to meet you, Mr. Allumin." When Radiance nuzzled her hand, she beamed, happily, and began to slowly rub her on the head, behind the ears. "Oh you're really soft, Radiance!" She sounded utterly delighted, and her expression was entranced. "How did you come by two such wonderful friends?"

Allumin continued to rub Barons head, as the purple jackalope seemed more than content to remain lounging on his shoulders. "Thank you. I've become rather fond of my name as well." He joked lightly. "Though no need to call me Mr. I'm hardly old enough for that yet." He peered at Radiance as he watched the pastel female rubbing into Niamh's petting hand. "I honestly didn't come by them. They just found me. Radiance turned up the day I came to school and Baron just jumped into my arms when I was at a local festival. I didn't pick them at all, I suppose you could say they picked me. Maybe they knew that Jackalopes were my favorite familiar?"

"Oh all right! My carelady told me to call boys older then me Mr. and girls older then me Miss to be safe. But if you'd rather I don't, I wont!" She said, calmly, as she continued to caress Radiance's soft fur. "And oh how nice! I don't have any Jackalope friends." She paused, and looked sad. "And my regular friends are all busy today. It's lonely, and boring, when they're all busy."

"Well it's good to listen to your carelady." Allumin agreed. "But I would prefer you just call me Allumin. Its easier to be friends with someone when your not using respectable titles." He said with a faint smile. Radiance leaned into the petting a bit more and fluffed her wings as she rubbed one horn gently against Niamh's arm. "I love my two familiars, but sometimes they can be very demanding." He tilted his head some at the chimera girl. "Don't you have classes or studies you could be doing until they are not busy?" He asked.

"All right, then I will call you Allumin. It IS nicer." She ran a finger along the horn, gently, enjoying the texture, and she sighed a little. "I finished my homework, and I don't have classes right now..." She said, then added "Well except Math, but that's boring and I'll get it done, but I was just... uggggggggggggh." Her tone was really, truly childishly annoyed and disgusted. "Had to have a break."

He couldn't help it. Allumin tilted his head back and gave a small laugh at Naimh's childish response. Considering her age it was understandable, but it was still amusing. "I am sorry. I find math to be one of the easiest subjects to study. The rules are always the same no matter what. As long as you know how things are supposed to be processed. Still, breaks are good. If you don't take time away from your studies you tend to forget things you have studied hard to learn." Allumin nodded to Radiance who was apparently enjoying rubbing her horns against the chimera's fingers. "My familiars help me with that. Perhaps you might find a way to get one of your own? Though they do require a lot of attention and understanding."

] She blinked at his laughter, confused, but smiled because making some one laugh was always nice. At his words about math, though, a small scowl appeared on her face. "I guess. It's just boooooooooooooooring. It's not fun, like art, or active, like PE. Not fun at all!" She sighed, wistfully. "I can't wait til I'm older and can take the REALLY fun classes. I wanna learn divination!"
She continued her admiring petting of Radiance, and added "Then I could maybe tell the future and find out if I'll find a pretty friend like Radiance myself!"

"Life is full of boring things, but useful. I know that there are some divination types that use math and numbers. Perhaps if you remember that math might help you become a really good with divination that might make it just a little less boring?" He suggested. Not that he expected her to ever become excited over a subject she didn't like. "I hope you do find yourself a familiar. I bet it will be the best friend you will ever have." He encouraged her softly.

"I... I did not know there were some forms of divination that required Math." She frowned, a MIGHTY frown for such a comparatively small face. "Hmmm I don't know what to think." She used one hand to rub Radiance's ear, while petting the horn with the other. "I just... I dunno. Numbers don't excite me but maybe I can work on it."
She paused, then added "Do you think maybe if I sit on the ground, she might sit in my lap?" Her tone was hopeful, because cuddling the cute critter sounded appealing to her. Her wings fluttered, JUST a little, in excitement at the thought. "And me too! That would be super super awesome!"
