It was high noon, the sun was glittering off the river in the distance. The stallion could see it trickling by from where he stood atop a hill looking down. There were mountains in the distance, snow-capped and majestic in their silence. There was something alluring about those mountains. They spoke to him in a mysterious way, so he found himself walking casually that way, searching the paths for any movement.

He saw movement and trained his eyes towards the approaching creature. He was happy to see it was another stallion, a unicorn. This brightened Vira's day. He enjoyed reaching out and seeing about growing the herd. He stood up from where he had been lounging and shook the straw leaves and grass from his coat and stepped out of the shadows, hailing the other stallion cordially. "Hello there! How are you?"

He was surprised to see another soquili out there, but recovered quickly. The stallion before him, while large and imposing, seemed happy and friendly. Tyrin was a bit tired from his journey anyway and a break talking to a potential new friend sounded pleasant enough. "Hello there! My name is Tyrin. Did I blunder into your home?"

He pulled up in front of the stranger and smiled warmly. "I'm Viracocha, but everyone calls me Vira. I wouldn't call this my home exactly... more like the front door." He chuckled slightly. "So what brings you out this way? There aren't too many wanderers this way." They were far from any of the other herds, which was deliberate. They enjoyed the safety of seclusion.

He arched an eyebrow at the larger stallion. "I can't say what brought me here. The allure of the mountains, I suppose." He shrugged noncommittally. "I must say life has taken some twists lately, and we're looking for a fresh start. Something told me we might find it out this way. I know that sounds crazy!" He laughed at himself.

"We?" So there were more of them! He reflexively glanced around, but saw nothing out of place. Nervous habit of a past filled with horror. He shook it off and looked back at the smaller stallion. "Well perhaps the Spirits were guiding you. As it happens, I am an emissary for a herd of unicorns nearby. Tell me about you and whoever else is with you? Perhaps wee can work something out." He tried to smile in a charming way. He didn't like asking for anything in return for the protection their herd provides, but they were a small herd and needed members that could contribute.

A herd nearby! That was lucky! Perhaps they could help his son. Or at least keep him protected. He hesitated for a moment, but decided to trust this stranger. "I have a son. Two sons, actually, but that's another matter. My son Darkheart is with me, but he is mentally.... broken. He has episodes. I'm hoping to find a place that is safe for him. As for what we offer, I am an accomplished healer." He couldn't help sounding a little cocky at that.

He nodded thoughtfully. A son with mental issues? He knew what Abigail's answer would be, immediately. She was a sucker for the downtrodden and pathetic. He sighed and nodded again. "We do have a healer position. One that can travel, if you prefer. You said you had a second son, where is he?"

He frowned at the question. He wished he knew where his son was. "I confess I don't know where my other son is, or their mother. I had hoped perhaps I could search for them." A travelling healing position would be perfect. He wondered what Darkheart could do in the herd. "Tell me more about the herd?"

"We are called Kateri, and we are sort of new. Many of us came from a previous herd, long ago. It was decimated by a massive skinwalker attack. We scattered as foals and reunited recently to create a new herd. We're a tough group, warriors as much as healers. Abigail, our Alpha, likes to take in anyone who needs help to be honest. We're all unicorns or unicorn hybrids, but I'm sure we'd take in other breeds provided they weren't evil." He added the last part, since he didn't know the race of this stallion's son.

"I'll have to talk to my son and see what he says, just as I'm sure you must speak with your Alpha. Perhaps we'll stay in the area and meet back up in the morning?" He smiled and thanked the large stallion for his time. He turned and left, pondering the implications of joining a herd and what his son might think about these matters. Provided he was lucid, of course.
