Remembering the Past

It has been seven long years since the Great Oban Invasion. It almost feels like a dream, considering all of the changes that have occurred in Tendaji since the great war. A new King sits on the Oban throne, and he has opened the boundaries of Oba and Matori. Many already are taking advantage of the open boarders to travel and explore. The world was expanding and changing all things to the massive war of the great nations.

Since the war, Tendaji took a stand against the extremist Alkidikes and won. They came together to show a new alliance that many could never dream of. Everything was settling, and now that there finally was peace everyone has begun to to take a moment and remember all that has come and gone.

How have the major wars and changes impacted your character these past few years? Are they bitter for their failures or happy about their success? Do they see a peaceful future to come or are they concerned about those who may be still holding grudges?

[Characters not part or even alive during the war can still respond to this prompt. Maybe they have a different way of understanding the war compared to those who were part of it, so feel free to explore those feelings and thoughts in your response]

The recent past of Tendaji was bloody, bloodier then when she was young, but it wasn't where Zuri had lost the most. Many families lost members to the Great Oban Invasion or the extremist Alkidikes, but for her her loss had been between the two wars. Her daughters were still fairly young at the time of the first war, and by the second they were both dead. She had also lost her husband during that time, though the choice to lose him was voluntarily where losing her daughters was a fate she was still feeling pain from. With a sigh Zuri closed the door to her house and locked it before taking off the coat she was wearing and hanging it up. Although she loved her childhood home it wasn't really what she craved, without the love of her children it wasn't a real home.

For what wasn't the first time she wondered if she had done the right thing by having children when she did. They were young for the first war, and she had expressed to her husband at the time that it wasn't the right time to have children. But they had them anyways, against her better judgement. Although she loved her girls and was happy to have them in her life for as long as she did she couldn't help but wonder if she had had them later would they have been with her longer? But then again if she had waited longer would they have been born at all? The Oban war was what showed her the true issues in her marriage. If they had waited to have children, she might not have had children with Biroki at all.

With a sigh she put some fire in her fire place and lit the fire, sitting in front of it. There was no telling what would have happened if things in the past had changed, just like there was no telling what the future would hold. Although she would like to think that things were now peaceful and that the fighting would stop for some time she doubted it was like that. That was wishful thinking, the thinking of fools. Things could never be peaceful for long, not now that the world had it's taste of war. There were plenty out there she was sure who would be angry or hold bitterness towards the others. She was sure the Extremists were only one group of people who felt jilted from the world wars. Although there was a new King in Oba she was sure that there were Obans who will still angry that they didn't have slaves anymore, or those from Matori who were still made at their former slave masters. There were always angry people in the world, which was why there would always be wars.

As she thought back on the two wars she thought about her performance in them. She was just getting strong when the Great Oban Invasion happened, she hadn't really ever fought anyone or even pictured herself fighting anyone seriously. Still she held her own and wasn't severely injured. She hadn't killed anyone, however she had injured her fair share of Obans and killed some of their beasts. She did good for being so inexperienced, and over all she was proud of herself. She didn't do anything on the battle field that she regretted and came out of the experience stronger.

The war with the Alkidike Extremists was different. There she had taken a life, and although she had once believed she wouldn't be able to live with the guilt of killing someone she found it was something that she could easily live with. She barely even thought about it anymore and could only picture the woman's face if she thought long and hard on it. She had done what she needed to do in order to survive, and she was sure that if she hadn't taken the woman's life then the woman would have taken hers. She wasn't ready to die, and if she learned one thing from her second war it was that. She had thought for along time that she didn't care about her own life, that she didn't care about living or dying since her daughters were no longer around to share the experiences of the world with her but she did care. She cared about her own life.

As the fire grew smaller and smaller Zuri grew more and more sleepy. Hopefully there wouldn't be any more wars, not for a while anyways, but if there were she would be ready.
