It'd been about about an hour since Tolliver - Cerussite had left him standing there in the snow, the warmth from his lips on his ring finger quickly fading away into the chilled air, much like their relationship had slipped out from under them in the blink of an eye.
Hitch's flannel was still damp from the snow as he sat there at the bar, his arm folded beneath his chin, his eyes red at the stared out at all the varied bottles and labels. He was pale, the dark circles under his eyes more obvious than ever. His gaze was vacant, and his knuckles were wrapped loosely in some kind of cheap gauze, because of course he'd hit something.
He was nursing a bottle of bourbon - and there was no reason to stop. There was no home to go back to, just a storage unit. He couldn't face the empty apartment, much less what he'd done to it.
Not that thee was much point in going anywhere - there wasn't a whole lot of point to anything, really, was there?

Jarias didn't know why she, she thought, she could find Hitch down at the bar, but it was almost like two broken friends were calling out to each other and she managed to make it there.
Something told her no, but she couldn't deal with what happened with her and Van and she was just...She just needed to wallow.
"What the ******** you doing here?" She sat next to him and stared at the bottle, and since he was clinging to it, decided to get her own. "Whiskey, keep it coming, no chaser, yeah thanks."
She took the first shot and hissed as it burned.
"Why you here, Hitch?"

Jarias' voice made him flinch. He looked at her without sitting up, just tilting his head slowly to a side. The first time, he didn't answer. He just watched her take her first shot and dragged himself up to take a swig of his own drink, wiping the small trickle of alcohol that'd seeped out of the corner of his mouth.
"Do you want the short, easy version, or the long, batshit crazy version?" he asked, his voice dry and brittle like aged paper. He gave a short, bitter laugh as he looked down at the counter. "Either way, same ********' thing - I ******** up. I wasn't good enough. Tolli's gone. The end."
His voice had cracked. He took another swig of bourbon.
"Why're you here, Jari?" After so long, even drunk and miserable as he was, he could tell: something was off.

s**t s**t s**t. Hitch had broken up with Tolli. Now she had to make good on her threat of stringing him by his toes AND she couldn't rely on the man to be her wingman.
"Van and I broke up." Kind of. It was a one sided text and she hadn't seen the woman since she sent it.
"Long story is good. I'll share mine, if you share yours." She took another shot.
"But some of the s**t, you might not believe."

This time, Hitch sat up fast, all the way. Too fast. It quickly became obvious how much he'd had already because he swayed violently, like he was about ready to topple right off the bar stool. "You - s**t, Jari - <********> I'm sorry - " He reached out and put a hand on her shoulder, as reassuring as it was to steady himself. The hand slid down and away as he propped himself up against the counter again and took a long, hard swig of his bottle, savoring the burn the whole way down.
Well. Tried to. He was just sort of numb, by now. "What a shitty day. What a shitty ********' - ********' week - ********' everythin' - " He was losing focus. It wasn't hard to do. He bit down hard on his piercing and choked out a bitter laugh again.
"Fine. You wanna talk unbeli -- weird a** s**t, though, " he waved his hand in the air, always talking with his hands, and especially when he was drunk. "A cat turned me into a magical ********' terrorist with salty super powers in March. A monster woman ******** up my face an' my back, I got my a** kicked a whole lot, but I kept ********' doin' it 'cause I thought maybe I could keep Tolli from goin' through that, an' then - "
His words were all slurring together. It was a wonder if she understood them all. "They took him an' this b***h convinced him she's the good one an' now he chose her over me an' I yelled at him an' he's gone an' joined their side an' he's never comin' back an' - "
At the end, he'd gotten louder, more frantic, angry even, his voice cracking all over the place. People around them were starting to stare. He let his head drop against the counter, uncaring, running his fingers through his hair. He might've teared up again if his eyes weren't so dry from it already. "There. Your turn." He took another swig of his drink for good measure.

"Yeah, Hear Hear!" She raised her glass and then threw it back. When she set it down, she was listening intently to him and understood that of course, her best friend would be someone with magic too.
The cosmos's, she thought, were just a b***h like that.
"He's part of the ******** negaverse...and chose them over you?" She frowned and then reached out, "That...s**t man." She closed her eyes. "Okay well...I don't know if you know about knights...."
"But I am a knight of Cosmos. Just became Squire not to long ago and haven't gotten my stupid ring and we had some meeting on mars about upgrading them and I got a friend, names Hver who told me about the Rings, and Babylon says they are real important. So I pop out into my wonder, which is in ******** space, to see what it's all about and I'm walking through some shitty old city and like...."
She slammed her fist down on the bar counter. <******** memories from my past life hit me. Like a ******** speeding train. I'm keeled over, trying to deal with this massive flux of information and then....." She stopped......
"I get this image of a woman, Cosmos. She's suppose to be the one I answer too." She took another shot, "My past life is like, head over feels for her and its effecting me. I can't stop seeing her." She gripped the counter, "and to top it all ******** off, our little guide thing called the code told me I am failing my wonder cause I was with Van, and not with Cosmos."
She quieted down.
"It's so ******** messed up."

The fact that she accepted words like 'negaverse' so easily didn't make him double-take like it should have initially; it sank in slow, seeping into him only when he'd taken some more bourbon - and then nearly choked on it, because wait just a ******** second -
"You're a -- ??" She was a knight. The word made him think of Celsus, sitting there on the swings looking broken and miserable and there Eurydike was screaming at him, calling him a liar, saying all those ******** up things to him -- he took another hard swig of the bourbon, feeling his stomach lurch with the gesture. He didn't really give a s**t as long as he didn't mull too long and hard over that.
He knew next to nothing about Cosmos, although he guessed it was kind of like Celsus and Chronos. A princess. He listened intently and held a hand up in the air. "First of all, " he declared, "Your ********' code, no offense Jari, but it sounds like a d**k. A giant raging d**k. ******** that noise. ******** this past life reincarnation bullshit, " not that he knew anything about that, "******** it all man. This powered bullshit is - it's just - it's bullshit, " and what good had any of this ever done him? Not a goddamn bit. "Wish I'd never ********' taken that cat's ********' stupid a** ********' pen - wish I'd never - "
He looked at Jarias, suddenly, really and honestly looking at her for the first time that night. "What now? - the ******** are we supposed to do now?"

"Yeah, YEAH, ******** knight. And you're a goddamn Senshi, What are the ******** odds. And Tolli is some ******** up nega and Van, well she's just perfect." but probably powered too because that would be Jarias's life now.
"It's ******** bullshit." She took another shot but knew that she would...like...go back to it. She was failing her wonder. There was no point in trying to run away from Van AND her wonder. She had chosen one, over the other.
"We ******** drink." She shrugged, feeling the buzz hitting her hard now, "I'm gonna ******** drink till I puke tonight, and then I am going to go home and drink more and then I am gonna wake up the next morning and I am gonna...."
She slammed the glass down. "Get the ******** on with it. I'm young, There is plenty of other chicks."

"Will that help? - if you're in love with this Cosmos chick?" he asked, his voice a little slurred, confusion on his face. He didn't sound judgmental, far from it. Just curious. Granted, his own relationships had kind of been slim pickings. He'd dated girls and all, but - he'd never really been emotionally invested in any of them, beyond a couple that'd been friends, so it'd sort of sucked to lose that.
But he had a glorious penchant for losing friends, anyway, so it always felt sort of inevitable to be honest. Jarias was kind of the only one that'd stuck around through it all, and he'd worked hard to keep it from his mother that she was a lesbian. Always, she'd asked him, 'why not Jarias? - she seems like a nice girl, and you get along so ******** well' - and he'd made excuses, way too many, because he knew how his mother would be if she found out who Jarias really was. He lost enough friends, he really hadn't needed her to fade out of his life too.
To this day, he didn't know if Jarias ever realize how many times he'd had to lie about her.
Now, though - "Did I make a mistake? - comin' out an' all for him?" He was more asking himself now than his friend, sinking onto the counter again, shutting his eyes. "I mean, no, not a mistake, just - ********, I - it's not even - I don't know - how to get the ******** on with it, Jari, I - "
Jarias was probably the last person he should have looked to for guidance in that moment. Which was probably exactly why he was.

"I'm not sure what the ******** I am." She laughed miserably, "I don't even know this Cosmos's chick, but she's haunting my dreams and so is my past self. Its like they convulged and now I have to deal with this." She wanted to pretend she could sleep around. That she could ******** it all away.
If that had been the case, then why hadn't she stayed with Van?
"I don't wanna hurt Van, cause of me. She's way too good for me." Jarias shrugged.
"We both ******** up...." She took another shot, "We're gonna live with it." She didn't know what else to tell him. "At this point, I am just ******** pissed."

Too good for me...
"Know how that feels, " Hitch grunted, his chin barely propped on his hand, a pained look briefly on his face. He shut his eyes and just let his face come rest against the countertop; who knew what it'd seen, how dirty it might be. It still felt cool and soothing against his face as he sighed out, "Redheads, I swear to ********' god."
Pissed. Yeah. Pissed was a good thing to be. "It wasn't just me, though." Hitch glanced up from the crook of his arm, his chest aching. "He was tryin' to - to protect me or somethin' - he's sidin' with the b***h that almost killed me! I mean... "
He slapped a hand against the counter. "An' it ain't your fault either. It ain't like you asked for this! Neither ********' one of us did - I didn't even want the ********' pen to begin with! I - "
I'm so tired. I'm so ********' tired. I don't wanna think anymore. I don't wanna -
"I wish I could just ********' - I just want - I just wish I could - "

"Redheads, in ******** deed." Jarias answered back. "Trying to protect you?" She tilted her head.
"Doesn't he know that...negaverse is bad?" She leaned in, "Cause like...that isn't really protecting." But she couldn't make heads or tails of it being as drunk as she was getting now.
"Wanna forget. I dont' wanna pick up other chicks. Lets get drunk Hitch." The woman ordered more shots. "Then I'll carry your skinny a** home and we can sleep it off or something."
