Adoption Game

Opens: February 1st
Closes: February 29th, 11:59 PM EST

Hunter's Jubilee is a time to celebrate love. From platonic to romantic, its a big event that draws everyone together. But some kids don't have families to celebrate with, and don't attend the academy where they can hang out with a caretaker. Do you have a Nightmare or Daydream who's graduated from the academy who might want to share some love?

The goal of this game is to write a RP response of your senior either meeting a child at the orphanage and making a genuine connection, or writing a letter about their dream to be a parent.

          Rules:
          • This contest is completely free.
          • You may only enter once.
          • You may not decide what the child looks like. While you can tell us in-character reasoning for why they wouldn't take a certain race home, you may not indicate colors or edits. These children are surprise gifts.
          • Your Nightmare/Daydream must have graduated the academy to enter this game.
          • Your Nightmare/Daydream must remain the parent of the child. The game's purpose is to give a child a new home, and in-character your Nightmare/Daydream should remain their adopted parent.
          • You may make up NPC parents, we encourage participants to quest for their parent so long as those parents do not have blood-related children that already exist in the shop, since that conflicts with our no-mock rule.
          • If you edit your post, please label in red at the top of your post that you've edited something, and the date when.
          • Anyone can enter, whether they are a newbie or not!
          • Staff may enter this contest!
          • Whining, guilt-tripping, or generally misbehaving over the contest will result in you being disqualified.
          • Aggressive hinting about the contest counts as guilt-tripping and whining, and general misbehavior.
          • Make sure you've read the Guide to the Worlds forum in its entirety!
          • You may not proxy for another person.
          • You may not gift or trade prizes from this event. If you dislike the character given to you then you may give it back to the shop.
          • Staff may not home a child until the event is over.

Entry: Giselle looked highly uncomfortable, standing in front of the building like it was an enemy fort, holding a bag of plushies she had made herself. They weren't anything too special, just plain fabric and stuffing with no frills or trim or anything extra; sewing wasn't her forte. Still, they had all been made with the same meticulous concentration Giselle used when making jewelry, so if they weren't fancy they were at least well-made.

She'd been wanting to adopt a child for some time now, but worried she would be overlooked due to her race. Nightmares (and probably several Daydreams) might have qualms giving over an orphan to the care of an Elf. It was...understandable, even if it made her muscles to a bit tense just thinking about it. A letter likely wouldn't be convincing enough, so she decided to visit the orphanage in person. Bringing a gift to donate had seemed appropriate as well. She could have bought gifts, but hand-making them seemed like an extra touch that showed commitment.

She'd been staring at the doors long enough. Giselle took a deep breath, marched up the short set of stairs, paused in front of the doors, then pushed them open. The noise that flooded out made her wonder if a riot was taking place somewhere in the building; the walls and doors on this building must have been quite thick to contain it all. As she watched children running through the hallways she couldn't help but smile. They were probably excited about Hunter's Jubilee.

A harried-looking adult noticed Giselle and asked what they could do for her. Giselle handed over the bag. "I would like to donate some toys for the children. If it is alright, may I mingle a bit?" The adult accepted the bag and looked at Giselle a bit doubtfully, but nodded. Giselle tried to keep a pleasant smile on her face as she walked down the hall. Children swarmed around her, some giving her curious looks while others were clearly intent on some goal and didn't spare her a glance. Giselle felt a bit nervous. It was one thing to know the orphanage was full of children, but seeing them and being in the middle of it was another reality entirely.

She found a room set up for play that had adults in mind. There were normal-sized chairs and comfortable-looking short chairs, presumably for adults who wanted to be on level with the child but not on the floor. Giselle sat in one of the regular chairs and watched the room. She wasn't really sure how to approach any of the children. She didn't know much about the games they seemed to be playing, and she wasn't really sure what to say. She'd never conversed with children all that often, and not for quite some time. There were a few adults in the room, playing games or chatting. Giselle felt quite alone and isolated in her chair. She sighed softly, hiding her eyes behind her hand and rubbing her brow. Perhaps it would be best to come back another time, to acclimate herself.

"Hey lady, are you an Elf?"

Giselle removed her hand, a little surprised, and noticed a freshling standing in front of her. They looked at her with big eyes full of curiosity. "Yes," she answered cautiously. "Why do you ask?"

"My teacher said Elves can be mean," they responded. There was no mistrust in their eyes, just that curiosity. "Are you mean?"

Giselle leaned forward in her chair a bit, elbows on her knees so she could bring her face a bit more to their level. "Some people might say I am," she answered honestly. "It's probably more because of my personality than my race." She smiled at the freshling. "Do you think there's a race that's always nice," she asked. The freshling got a very serious look on their face as they pondered the question. Finally they shook their head.

"I guess not," they admitted. Giselle couldn't help but be charmed by how honest and serious they seemed to be. She reached in her purse and pulled out a plushie she'd been holding back. It was her best attempt in her opinion, and she loved the colors of the fabric.

"How about you and I play a game together, and when we're done you'll know me well enough to decide if I'm mean or not," she suggested, a tint of teasing in her eyes. The freshling smiled at her and nodded.

"Okay," they said, taking Giselle's hand and pulling her over to a small pile of toys with a cluster of children around it. Giselle felt a curious sensation in her chest, an odd pressure like she was filling with emotions too immense to bear all at once. She did her best to smile; if might scare the children if she started to cry.

I am a woman studying to be a teacher at university right now. This line may make one wonder why I would want to take on such a responsibility as a child, let me make myself clear I understand fully what I am asking. In my opinion there are far too many Children that don't have a loving home, like the one I am able to provide. If you accept me you can gaurentee the child will be provided for and treated as one of my own. I have no children currently but if I did this child would surely be treated the same. It doesn't matter to me race or appearance, I love all children. I believe my home would be a fun one to grow up in, and as a hopeful teacher I could provide the learning environment that any child needs. I also live close to the Academy so my child would be able to attend classes but still come home with me every night! Thank you for your consideration.

To whom it may concern,

My husband, Yami, and I are currently looking to expand our family and, together, we have decided to adopt. We are easily able, financially, to take on a new child; I own a flower shop, and my husband has a family run cafe. More importantly, though, we have a safe, loving home to give to a child who needs one. We feel that our home will be a wonderful place to grow, filled with toys, quality time, guidance, and love. We also plan to give our adopted little one a sibling or two in the future, so they will eventually have same age companionship as well.

We have opened our hearts and our home to any orphan you think would benefit from having us as parents, and we wait with bated breath for a return acceptance letter. Thank you for your time.

Dear Headmistress,
I hadn't originally planned to adopt a child so soon, or have one... But then I remembered growing up, alone, and thought about it. I have room, in my heart and my home, for a child. I would like to provide a child a safe place to live, and a safe shoulder to cry on.
I remember how hard it was for me, as a shy child, to make friends. I want to be sure that this child, whoever he or she might be, gets a chance to have some one who will love them, no matter what. Some one who will notice when they're sad, and cuddle them when they're lonely.
I know the teachers are good for that, but they watch so many children. This one would not have to worry that he or she might be missed because the others are upset too.
Thank you for your consideration, and much love,
Delilah

Entry:
Raleka was never asked to bring in a plant into the orphanage, but when she found a specimen she found beautiful, fascinating, and in excess, she would usually drop it off. The standard package was a twisting, serpentine, photosynthesizing organism, complete with an informational card. That way, she figured, the kids could look at something new, and read about it. She tried to simplify the information about the plant as much as she could, but sometimes a bit of botanical jargon slipped through. She could never resist writing the scientific name of the specimen.

Today appeared to be no different than any other time she had done this. She precariously placed the flowering vines on the reception desk, giving a feeble smile to the woman behind the counter. Familiar with the routine, the receptionist whisked the plant and card away to a back room, nodding a thanks to Raleka. The hybrid turned around to leave, but noticed a small child sitting in a waiting room chair, kicking their legs comically. Raleka shifted her wings a bit, suddenly feeling nervous. Was this one of the orphans? What were they doing out here, in the lobby?

"Why did you bring a plant?" a small voice crooned.

"I... thought it would be nice." Her clawed hand reached up to brush a lock of rose-colored hair behind her leafy ear. She felt the space between her words dissipate, and stretch out into the silence. "I've brought plants here before."

"I've seen them." Kick. Kick.

"Do you... like them?"

"Yeah."

Raleka glanced back at the door the receptionist had left through, wondering what was taking so long. It had only been a few seconds, but surely this child shouldn't be left out in the waiting area alone, especially if they were an orphan. She wasn't really sure how these places were supposed to work, but she was positive unsupervised children running around wasn't part of it. "Do you live here?" A nod.

The child hopped off the chair and toddled over to where Raleka stood, and she suddenly felt taller than a skyscraper. They were so petite. The fact that she had once been that size was appalling to the hybrid. She slumped her shoulders a bit, to diminish her appearance.

"Can I touch your leaves?" Raleka's lilac gaze flashed to the small branches protruding from her calves, and she flexed her tail away from them a bit. Well, it couldn't do any harm, right?

"Sure." Tiny hands gently glossed over her plantlike appendages, and she didn't resist the way the corners of her mouth pulled upward. It wasn't the first time a child had marveled at her strange combination of races, but it was the first time one had approached her without reservation. She crouched down to eye level, and the child backed up a few steps to give her space.

"Do you like plants because you're a Dryad?" the little one asked, clutching the hem of their shirt.

"I'm not all Dryad," she said, then paused. "But loving plants is a huge part of who I am, what my culture is. So, you could say that."

As Raleka gazed into the child's eyes, she had a strange moment, where her chest seized up. It was almost as if she could see a million paths of the future, branched out in front of her. The woman couldn't help but feel like this moment in time was particularly significant for her, and as her mind swimmed with the orphan's eyes, she realized she couldn't leave without them. It was an insane thought, really - she didn't have someone to raise the child with. But she certainly had the money, and it was a time of year for charity. She could have someone to bring her joy, and she could give that someone love... and a home.

The door at the back of the reception counter swung open. "There you are! You shouldn't have run off like that." It was an imp, who seemed very concerned about the child before Raleka. The child was swept them up into protective arms. Raleka straightened up, the gentle smile of moments before falling off of her face.

"Sorry about that, miss," the imp said, as the child began to squirm in her arms. She glanced over the hybrid's strange combination of leaves and scales, a strange look crossing her face. "Are you here to adopt?"

Raleka could only stare for a moment, before finally speaking. "Yes. I am."

Do Not's: Nope, Glykeria has a very open heart

Entry: Glykeria smiled as she looked at the orphanage, imagining meeting a child, who needed someone to love them and open their arms and take them home. Gly walked into the door and went looking for someone who needed her, she had no race in mind. She wasn't looking for an imp or a demon, just a child who needed love. Glykeria found a little one hiding in a corner, she held out her hand and said "Hi sweetheart would you like to come home with me??" She waited patiently for the child to decide if they wanted to trust her. The child seemed a little uncertain. Perhaps they had had their heart broken before by promises unfullfiled. "I have two little boys about your age who would love to meet you, you can come live with us forever if you like." Glykeria said warmly.

Entry: Naosu bounced on the balls of her feet, standing before the orphanage as she was. It was funny. She had come here all gung ho in finding a little one to hopefully bond with and bring home with her, but now that she was here little butterflies were fluttering around in her belly to match the nervous fluttering of the wings on her back.

Finally she decided enough was enough. What was the worst that could happen? Maybe she wouldn't find a child today, but there were lots of children abandoned all the time--no, she couldn't think about that. The thought of so many unloved children just broke her heart as it was!

She marched forward with purpose to enter the building and looked around when she entered, smiling. She could tell immediately that this was a good place for children and she felt a lot better about the knowledge that she wouldn't be able to give every one a home. Onward she walked, intending to find someone who could guide her or tell her about who might benefit from Naosu's loving care, but she never got that far, instead coming across a child crammed in a corner, curled up and sniffling.

Naosu's heart went out to them and she stepped over to crouch. "Hello." She said softly so the freshling would know she was there. "Naosu is Naosu."

The child looked up at her and blinked watery eyes. "Naosu is Naosu?" They repeated, confused.

Naosu smiled and pointed at herself. "Naosu, is Naosu."

The child blinked again, then smiled slightly. "You're funny."

Naosu smiled. "Well, thank you! Naosu is pleased to meet you. Why for the sads?"

Reminded of having been sad, the child wiped their eyes. "I can't find my toy. He's my most favorite, and I can't find him."

"Oh. Well!" Naosu smiled and held out her hand. "Naosu will help! Let's look high and low and in the between places, okay?"

The child took Naosu's hand, sniffled and smiled. "Okay."

Entry:If, six months ago, anyone had told Zella that she'd end up going to university in Below, she would have laughed in their faces. If they had further gone on to state that she would spend most of her weekends volunteering at the orphanage, she'd have quickly knocked them over the head and had them rushed to the nearest mental health professional.

And yet, here she was, in Below, going to University and currently reading to a gaggle of orphans. Further, she was enjoying it. The kids liked it when she read to them and changed her voice around for each character. And they all loved it when she let them act out the parts in the story. In spite of how often she was there she hadn't really bonded with anyone. Oh, she was thrilled when any of her little friends were adopted, but her heartstrings had yet to be tugged. And, up until recently, that was how she'd liked it. She didn't want the responsibility.

Or so she'd thought. Before the inclusion of a particularly quiet kid to her little reading group. No one knew the kid's name since they never talked. All they did was look from under a mop of tousled hair. Zella hadn't even seen them smile. Twitching her tail irritably, Zella took a deep breath before marching to her usual reading corner. This wasn't her day for volunteering. But from what she'd learned, her quiet little friend was always there, going through the books in un-nerving silence, broken only by an occasional whisper to their stuffed animal. And as far as the goblin was concerned, things couldn't go on like that. The kid needed a friend and someone to look after them.

As she rounded the corner, she smiled to see that the kid was there, holding up a huge book and pointing things out to their plush. Hoping that she hadn't gone completely crazy, she cleared her throat carefully to let the kid know that they weren't alone anymore and put on her best friendly grin.

"Hey there, kiddo, whatcha reading? Mind if I have a look?"

Zella was clinging to the fact that the kid was always near her when she came by to read. Some of the other volunteers had remarked on it. This little waif sure didn't shadow them!

Moving quickly, she settled into her usual pouf and peeked at the pages.

"You like animals, huh? Would you like me to read the book to you? Just you?"

The kid's eyes didn't give anything away, though Zella thought she saw a tiny glint of cautious happiness. Smiling and patting her hand on the pour, inviting the kid to come closer, she accepted the book from those tiny hands and began to read the pages that the kid had open.

She read slowly, losing track of time as the kid crept closer and finally wound up snuggled against her side. Moving oh-so-carefully, the goblin circled one arm around the thin shoulders and gently hugged the warm little body closer.

And found herself grinning widely as she heard the tiniest of whispers creep dozily to her ears as small arms clung to her.

"Zella."

((This is an NPC litch that I will be questing for.))

Morana. Death. The name had been a gift. Funny, as all she had ever dreamed of was bringing life into the world. It had shaped her past, present, and undoubtedly would shape her future as well. As a young child, Morana had wondered what it would be like to know her own family. As an adult, some of her peers lived with generations of kin. An overwhelming abundance of family. Every day, the litch carefully undertook the delicate art that was alchemy, and it brought the echo of that family to her fingertips. She had been a child of unknown parents. It had spurred her quietly, ever present in the backdrop of her life. The steps seemed so natural.

One day she had held an alchemized soulstone in her gloved hand, the product of so many years of careful study. It lit a spark inside of her that only grew by the day. She wanted to be the family of an orphan. She had walked that path herself, and knew the curves and bends of it. She knew where it led, what it could be. Oh, she knew it for the gift that it was... and for the pain that it caused! Cupped between her ever gentle hands, those soulstones seemed to call to something inside of her. They reminded her that life, that precious first beginning, was to be shared.

Business was steady, post graduation. She had thought of courting another, maybe others... and perhaps one day she would. But that need for a family, and that need to be mother to a lonely child, had brought her here first. Here, to the orphanage, to meet the most important person in her life. The quest seemed so urgent now. She'd felt the pull and draw since graduating the Academy and graduating from Leviathan had made it all the stronger.

So, when she stood in front of the very building that housed her future, she felt the very first stirring of doubt. What if she wasn't the right sort of parent for a child who had never had one? Once the first doubt surfaced, it was as if a dam had burst, and Morana stood stock still, waiting for the storm to subside. She was not much given to such fits of emotion. Stoicism was far closer to her usual state. Naturally, her first instinct was to logic it out. Of course they would want such a mother. After all, she could provide for them, could she not?

Provide a home, provide warmth, provide... love? Yes, love. Family. Perhaps they would not receive the overflowing emotions that others presented to their children... but her emotions, though steady, ran deep. If she closed her eyes, she could imagine what that home would look like with a child to visit it. Her child would attend the Academy, of course, as she had. He or she or they would want for nothing, surely. Please, please, please let there be a little someone inside of those walls whose tiny hand she could take, whose tears she could brush away, whose fears she could soothe. Her caretakers had been wonderful, of course. Almost family. But this… this was to be her entire world.

Who would wear the little clothes she’d longingly picked out? Who would sit in that chair? Who would be the light in her quiet life? She had made everything ready, and maybe that was presumptuous, but she yearned to share her heart and her home with someone special. Someone who needed her.

Gathering her courage, she turned the knob, her shoulders straight and filled with purpose. “Yes, I would like to visit with the children,” she found herself saying, before her mind had caught up with her. Visit with? No, she wanted so much more than that! But maybe this was right. Maybe she needed to spend some time with the little ones in order to find the right person. … Or to be the right person for a little orphan.

Admittance was easier than she’d expected, or maybe she’d auto-piloted through that conversation. Either way, she found herself following a guide, unaware of the looks that graced her retreating back. Perhaps it was rude that when she reached her destination, she paid no mind to anything but the freshlings inside. Yet she found herself captivated by the way they were playing together. Two children in particular caught her eye: they were chasing each other around the others, seemingly playing a game of tag, or something similar. To see them play so freely brought a smile to her lips.

She was so distracted that she scarcely realized that their play was heading in her exact direction. A mistake she swiftly rectified when a child went careening into her, nearly falling to the floor. She caught the little one as they fell. The other laughed, giving a cheeky: “Gotcha!” before running away again. But the child in her arms stayed there, looking up curiously at the litch who had served as their cushion.

“Hey, hey, are you sick, miss?” they asked, bringing inquisitive hands up to touch the places where the Rot was visible on her skin. “‘Cuz if you’re sick, you’re not ‘posed to be here! ‘Posed to be r-restin’!”

Whether the child was concerned for her, or simply satisfying their curiosity, Morana’s heart was touched all the same-- and amused, too. “No, I’m not sick. I’m very well, thank you. That is only the Rot. You see, all Litch have it.” Every one of them did, and surely this little one had learned that? But maybe they didn’t recognize it for what it was. Maybe it looked different to them on a full sized litch, rather than a pint sized one.

“Ooohhh, like Jeffy has?” they inquired, tilting their head until they nearly fell over again.

Soft laughter greeted their query. “Yes. Exactly like. You have probably heard about it before… but let me tell you, little one, that you will meet many Litch, and they will all have it. Your friend is waiting for you, though. Are you going to keep them waiting?” Ah, she would love to spend the day with this child, but it was quite true that a certain freshling had grown just a little pouty over waiting for their friend to come back to play. No doubt they hadn’t planned on an adult interrupting their fun.

“Okay! But can you play with me, too?” they asked.

… Morana knew, in her heart, that she would be chasing these little ones for as long as they wanted her to. “Of course,” she said simply, and got up to do exactly that, dignity long since forgotten. And, for the first time in her life, she felt her heart overflowing with emotion. Gratitude. Love.

Entry: Nyria really hadn't been in this part of the world all that long, so the fact that she already found herself wanting to adopt was probably a little odd, however, those that knew her well already knew that about her. Nyria loved people, and among people children were definitely her favorite. They said the strangest things with no filters. Perhaps it shouldn't, but it amused her, not that she needed nor wanted a child for amusement, her reasoning was perhaps much more instinctual. She knew many people who wanted children for the sake of filling a hole they had in their lives, a want or a need to make their lives complete with children was quite common and while she certainly couldn't fault them for that, that wasn't the reason for her, either.

Nyria was quite comfortable in her life. She understood who and what she was, and she was confident in that. Everyone who met her knew her to be full of life, to be full of excitement and more than willing to take risks, no one could certainly say that she disliked the kind of life she was living. She was sure there were others who could, who might hate that they were so far from their home with no friends, while starting a new job in a city they had never been to before, but none of that had slowed Nyria down, not even a little bit. No, her reason for wanting a child was very different. People who didn't know her might mistake her reason being the same as everyone else's. She understood that and it didn't bother her in the least, she would continue to be upbeat about the situation, letting everyone know that she was merely happy to share her infectious attitude with everyone else.

Truth be told, she wanted to adopt a child because she wanted to share the good things that had happened in her life with another. It wasn't that she felt sorry for any of the children in the Adoption Agency, she was sure there were real fighters in there, perhaps children that could give her a run for her own money. But what kind of life was it when you couldn't make someone else's life brighter and a better place? It was for the same reason that she loved to sing. The want to make everyone around her smile was so ingrained in her that that whole philosophy governed her every day. And she was sure that the child could teach her so many new things and help her grow into a better person.

So, when she heard that the Adoption Agency had opened their doors, she couldn't help but to try to apply. She wasn't sure that the Agency would have room for someone like her inside, but she wasn't going to let that stop her, she'd just have to be careful and make sure her tail didn't wreck anything, not that that was always an easy task, but she did have some practice at it.

She moved to the back of the room, watching the children for a little while before moving closer to one who seemed to have a bit of spunk to them. She smiled at the kid, trying to keep her tail from brushing against anyone. "If you don't mind me asking, what do you have there?"

The kid looked startled and just stared at her. "Are you.. one of those snakes from the sands?" The kid's mouth was half open.

"Yep, that's me! Do you want to touch my tail?" She countered, a grin on her face.

"You'd let me do that?!" The kid almost jumped in enthusiasm, instantly putting a hand to feel the smooth scales. "Oh man, that's so cool! Are you like.. here to adopt someone or something?" The freshling's head quizzically tilted to one side.

"I am." She nodded, a grin on her face as she slid to a more comfortable position. "I'm looking to maybe find a kid with some fire, do you think you have fire, hrm?"

The kid was a little confused at first, "Fire..?" It took them a moment to put together what she meant. "Ohhh! You mean like passion or something? Yeah! I got plenty of that!" The kid jabbed a thumb at their own chest. "Like seriously, look at this!" They pulled up a sheet of paper that had a few words sentences written on it. "This is like.. a poem I'm working on!"

Nyria couldn't help but grin even more. "Oh really? May I see it?"

"What?" The kid almost looked at her in horror. "I mean, no! It's not finished yet! I can't just let anyone see my work! Especially when it isn't done." The kid's cheeks puffed out.

Nyria felt a little let down, but she wasn't going to let that be the end of the conversation. This kid had a spark that she couldn't just let go, it was a spark that had already hit her full on. "What if... I adopt you? Then I won't just be someone. Would you let me see it then?"

The kid blinked, still holding the paper close to their chest. "Well, duh! You'd be like my mom then, right? Of course I'd let you see it! But only then!" There was a small twinge of hope in the kid's demeanor. It would be totally cool to have a mother, wouldn't it?! They hoped that the woman could pull it off, having a home would be the best thing ever.

Entry: Drisdin had always had a dream to adopt a little one from an orphanage. Even with her new triad lovers and their now three children, he still wanted another little one. After all, Drisden loved children.. so much so that he was aspiring to be a caregiver and hopefully work at the academy. There were other races available to him now, not just nixie and grimm. Though, no matter the race of the child, he knew that his lovers and other children would love their new addition. Drisdin looked down to his letter, nervously nibbling at his lip. He hoped his letter was good enough to prove he'd be a good match for one of the children.

To whom it may concern,

After some heavy consideration, I have decided that I would love to add one of your little ones to my life. My name is Drisdin and live close by to Asphodel Gardens Academy. I am currently attending community college to try and get a certificate to be a caregiver at the academy. I have two mates, Lir and Callahan as well as three children. Ever since I was a freshling, I have wanted a child but not by me imbuing a stone. I've wanted to take in a child that didn't have a family and give them their best shot. The child would have three loving parents and three loving siblings to care for them. I will make arrangements to send them to the academy as our other children do and help them strive for their dreams. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I hope you consider my application and find a suited child. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Drisdin.

With a nervous sigh, Drisdin moved to send his letter. He prayed and hoped that there was a child there for him. If not, he'd have to try harder.

Entry: Another holiday, another opportunity to grow the family. Calcifer rubbed her arm and smiled awkwardly at the Orphanage employee. It felt like just yesterday she was here picking up Dante and bringing him home. And now, her son was eager for a sibling. Koto would often suggest that they all go to the bank and imbue a stone, but Calcifer was too skittish about the whole affair. She was always scared something would go absolutely wrong and the stone could get damaged.

Caine was of the same mind, and they managed to convince Koto that adoption was better. After all, these were children that needed families and they would be happy to open their doors to the little ones that needed a home.

Calcifer was soon lead to the play area so she could meet the little ones, and some were unfortunately familiar faces. She felt her heart ache to take them all home and her loves probably wouldn't mind, but they didn't have the means to afford taking care of so many children. So it had to be only one.

The Geimera looked around and soon sat amongst the group of Freshlings to play with them all. Maybe she would quit her retail job and start working here at the Orphanage. Then she could make the little ones smile until they found homes.

After an hour had passed, Calcifer made her choice and went to fill out the paperwork to adopt her newest child. If nothing else, she would return to adopt another soon enough.

Entry: (This is an npc parent I plan on getting in the future)

To whom it may concern,

My name is Sofie Aleshire and I'm interested in adopting a child from your orphanage. I was born sickly and, though I've recovered very well, it's left me without enough magic to imbue stones of my own. I've wanted children since I was a child myself and, while not being able to have one of my own is sad, I have always considered adoption an option. After all, my grandmother adopted my brothers and I when our mother left us, and it was an act of pure love and kindness. I would like to show that same love and kindness to a child who was less fortunate as I was.

As of right now, my residence is close to the academy and a short distance from town. My child will want for little and have plenty of space to run. They will also have plenty of cousins, two uncles, and a great-grandmother who will dote on them just as much as I will. I plan on opening a clothing store in town soon as well, so money will never be a trouble. I firmly believe that I have everything that a child could ever need.

Please let me know if, and when, I may stop by to visit with the children at your earliest convenience. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Sofie Aleshire

Do Not's: All races are fine.

Entry: (This is an npc Grimm that I plan on questing for)

To whom it may concern,

I have always wanted a family, having never had a proper one of my own, but it wasn't until recently that I feel that I am in a place to start one. I have recently graduated from Asphodel Community College, and am working as a waiter.

I earn more than enough to support myself and a child, and while I know that I could embue a stone, I would much rather adopt a child. I would like to give them a home, to give them a family.

It doesn't matter to me what race they come from, and no matter which, I will encourage them to learn as much about their culture as they are interested in. I know that it can be hard not knowing where you came from, and even now, I struggle with that a little myself.

I have many friend who are also in the progress of starting a family, so the little one would have plenty of people around to play with. They will have everything they need to grow up well, and I promise that they will always be loved.

Thank you for your consideration,

Ylva
