Neued was quite possibly the largest settlement Mnyiri had ever seen in her life.
The area was bustling with trade and activity; so much so that Mnyiri could barely move one step without bumping into someone. There were a fair amount of strange looks given to the overly tall hybrid, mostly because of her obvious Alkidike heritage. It put Mnyiri on the spot in a number of ways. As cheerful as she was most wouldn't give her the time of day, which was so far hampering her efforts to gather some much needed supplies.
Maybe I should have sent Rhonann instead.
None of these earthlings quite looked like her earthling, but at least they appeared to be somewhat similar. Most of those she saw were shifters, with Obans running around (that she pointedly ignored), as well as something blue with fancy, spiked ears.
It was all a little much for her to take in at once, which had prompted her into plopping down on a bench near the edge of the market. Her knees were together, though her legs were a little splayed since the seat was obviously meant for shorter patrons. There was some hope when a little girl came closer to her, eyes wide with wonder. Mnyiri had perked up with a smile, eager to see a pleasant face when an older woman snatched the girl away.
"What are you doing, Cinna? Don't talk to it!"
"You don't have to be rude!" Mnyiri called out after her, sitting back with a noticeable pout. Were all earthlings this rude?

Senja was enjoying a market trip to purchase her last supplies before leaving.. meaning clothing shopping more than anything! As well as carrying cases for her instruments and a new saddle for her mammu... difficult to get since Mammu's were not this far south. As such she'd brought Shilea with her to a leather worker to get her beautiful friend measured. Her eye's caught sight of a tall alkidike with different coloring; a hybrid she thought. They existed but for the most part alkidikes and their hybrid children didn't live in Neued with its huge shifter and oban population. Her smile turned into a frown when she saw a child ushered away; rude indeed! She pated Shilea and left her standing outside the shop (who could even steal her?) and sauntered over towards the girl. The noticeable pout and Senja's own feelings made her want to talk to the girl to let her know that not all were like that. "Hello there! You're a new face around here!." She said as she approached with a smile.

robot kitten XD This rp must be Carmen Sandiego and Waldo's spawn lol. At first all Mnyiri saw was the giant creature and it's glorious tusks. She stared in awe of it, her eyes drawn to the oddball after such a rude encounter. Just what was that thing? And why was it's nose so long? Then her eyes traveled a little lower south and closer in proximity, meeting those of the shifter who had come to speak with her.
And Mnyiri stared some more. It was hard not to admire such a lovely feminine physique, especially with the way her body moved. The woman breathed sensuality and those rhythmic movements made it hard for the young hybrid to concentrate.
Her face split into a bright, open smile however, even if her skin was flushed to a darker hue. "Hello! Yours is the first friendly face I've seen all day." When she moved her head the little bells in her dreads chimed out a sweet little tune. "I'm traveling through with a friend and we stopped for supplies. Do you live here?" Maybe if she did then this woman could help point Mnyiri in the direction of some merchants willing to talk to her. Sitting still for so long was starting to bug her, and the frustration of not being able to shop to her hearts content was mounting.

Painted Moose I loved carmine sandiego! Just a note: senja is a shooooort earthling XD Like 4'7" Senja noticed the stare and her smile only got more impish because of it. "Well most people have issues with the alkidikes in general.. what with the butting of heads and all the recent noise." And because people were idiots and still hadn't gotten over their dislike of hybrids... but she didn't mention that. "I do live here! Grew up here in fact." She smiled and looked over at her mammu who stared at them from her spot as the leatherworker's apprentices climbed all over her with measureing tapes. "I'm Senja and this is my Mammu, Shilea.. she's from Zena." Introductions were in order; it would make this girl feel more comfortable she hoped.

robot kitten lmao! XD Mnyiri's almost 7'0" tall. While it all made a lot of sense to Mnyiri, she still couldn't help sighing. Being raised among her own kind had left her more than a little naive around earthlings. She'd known they could be dangerous with weaponry, but with words? Just one look, one smug, assuming look could make her feel like a child again. Then they opened their mouths and it was all hate talk. It was like they hadn't heard of a civil conversation before.
"Oh yeah?" This was good! It meant she could have connections here, and Mnyiri couldn't help getting excited over that. Her eyes went back to the strange creature, not bothering to hide a little laugh. The poor thing was completely swamped with earthlings, and it made quite the sight. When she turned back to the woman, there was a sort of youthful bounce to her now. Funny how actually speaking with someone who was nice could brighten her day. "Shilea's a long way from home, but it looks like she's getting the royal treatment. She's gorgeous, Senja."
Brushing off her bare thighs, the teenager stood up....then took a half step back so she wouldn't put a kink in her neck looking down at the woman. "My name's Mnyiri. This is my first time in an earthling...village? settlement? I'm not sure what this place is called." She shrugged, looking fairly nonpulsed about it all.

"I always pamper her!" Senja said with a laugh. "She saved my life once so now I make hers the most pampered life I can! It also makes up for having her live here in the humid heat instead of her cold mountains." Senja chuckled when the tall girl unfolded; "Oh my, you are a tall one! And Neued we like to call a city... mostly since its the largest and oldest of the shifter settlements. Though nowadays the population has a lot of obans and other races mixed in! Quite different from when I was little!... well littler." Her eyes twinkled. The girl looked rather young, despite her size; and that made Senja think that Mnyiri was venturing out into the world for the first time. I wonder if I seemed that young when I first left, she mused to herself. "You mentioned supplies? What sorts? We have almost everything for sale here! From most of the lands too!" She was quite proud of her city; it'd gone from old sleepy shifter city to a bustling melting pot of fun!

How sweet. Mnyiri looked back to the mammu once more, her smile a little fonder than before. "My radaku, Mvua, is the same way. He saved my life when I was younger so I try to spoil him. Not that he likes it," She added snidely. The most she had ever been able to do was to braid some beads into his mane before Mvua had snapped her. Theirs was an interesting relationship born from mutual need for companionship and odd circumstance.
"Everyone tells me that, but I hear it more from earthlings than the alkidike." Even among her own kind she was tall, which was kind of odd given her mixed blood. Her eyes widened on the admission, and Mnyiri gave a slow, panoramic look to the city around her. One of the oldest shifter settlements? She wondered how much history this place held, and what she could learn from it's residents. "Oh, oh, what are the blue ones called? I've never seen them before. Are they from Zena?" The ice tribe did have blue skin, right? But didn't they also have pointed ears, not finned ones?
"Oh, you know, the basics; new bed rolls, food, a wetstone for my spear..." She ticked off the items on her fingers before pausing, "...from all the lands? Areyouserious?! That's so awesome!" Mnyiri squealed. "I used to pay the sisters to bring me back things from their travels, but they never brought back much. I want everything. Books, jewelry, a dress..." She said almost wistfully. What would it be like to wear a dress? One of those fancy, useless things that she'd seen around?

Senja gave a throaty laugh; "Animals do react like teenagers sometimes! Try to smother them with love and they fight back!" She put her hand to her mouth as she realized she was addressing a youngster herself; "I mean... well. its true! My son reacts that way!" She said sheepishly. "Well.. I'm small even for my people! I've only really seen alkidikes from a distance and not so up close really! The blue ones.. well theres two blue ones." She gggled. "The blue with fins are the matorians... or water tribe. The blue ones with the golden eyes and dark hair and blue stones are the icelings.. Zenaians? Hmm not sure if I should call them by tribe or land...." She shook her hair, making the short pony tail lash back and forth. Mnyiri's reaction made her smile and she nodded; "Everywhere! Merchants from Zena come here because we have a lot of matorian and oban goods, so they bring their stuff to trade.. same with Sauti though not as much. I know some good dress places." She said with a twinkle. "My family runs a theater.. I bet we have some outfits that'd fit you..." She eyed the tall girl. "Or can be modified to fit you at least!"

"Oh now, come on. You are not old enough to have a teenage son." A young one possibly, but one as old as Mnyiri? Pfft, yeah right. She looked over Senja's supple form, and shook her head. It just didn't click with her since in Mnyiri's eyes the shifter was still a young, vibrant woman in her own right.
"I knew about the icelings, but the others are...matorians? I guess it makes sense that they're from the water tribe with the fins and all." She had to wonder if they helped them when swimming at all, but even that sounded ridiculous given their position. An image of a water tribe woman swimming as if her head were a sort of fish dragging along the rest of her body popped up into her head, causing her to snort in laughter.
Mnyiri barely caught herself, cheeks flushing a darker hue. Her eyebrows rose, the smooth shifter-esque arches framing her obsidian gaze. "I don't think I've ever been to a theater...actually, no, scratch that, I've never been to one. But I'd really, really like to go." The promise of fashion and fun seemed to excite her like any stereotypically youthful, feminine gal. Her mother would have killed her if she'd known this is what she was doing with her time, but well...the woman was dead and this was fun.

Senja laughed deeply; "Oh dear! I'm 31 this year child! My Sakhile's about 14. I just age well." She winked cheekily at the younger girl. "Tricks of the trade to being a performer helps too!" Such a sweet dear! "If you've never seen an icling, you might not have seen the wind tribe either! They tend to be nomadic but not really ones to leave their home lands. They're pale brown with pink stones and lovely blue eyes! Hair is brown or gold or orange! Poem of them look like they have fire on their heads!" She giggled as she recalled some she'd met in the past; pale and subdued in color for the most part.. and then you had that one that just burned brightly! "Never? Not even seen the traveling troupes that go through Juahur and Tale all the time? That needs to be fixed!" She was slightly shocked at that; maybe the Alkidikes didn't have visiting performers? "Do you mind if you leave shopping to a later date? I am free for now and can show you my family's theater and behind the scenes too if you want to see the classes and how we set up for shows."

robot kitten So, Senja is now her new fav person lol Mnyiri openly gawked. "You are not thirty-one. There is no freakin' way." With a fourteen year old son? That was just a few years younger than her! Biologically it was possible if Senja had her child at an early age, but surely she would be showing her years? She has no right to look that good at thirty-one.
"The wind tribe?" She was right, Mnyiri hadn't ever seen one before...until it hit her. Rhonann was a pale brown, like a cream color, with pink stones and she had lovely blue eyes! RHONANN WAS A WIND. Ooooh, her friend was going to be so excited once Mnyiri told her the news. Amnesia had taken hold of the poor girl, but this...this might help her out.
"I haven't been out much." Which was true. For the most part her entire life had been spent with her sisters, with little in the way of variances. At the time hybrids were something of an oddity, a rare gift (or curse, depending on how you viewed them), though now they seemed to be everywhere. "One of the elders in my village could play the flute, but that's about it." Maybe one had even sung a time or two? It was too fuzzy to remember.
Senja's offer gave her pause. She really, really, really wanted to say yes, but shouldn't she finish her shopping so she could tell Rhonann the good news? A few more hours won't hurt. "Let's go! It's so awesome that your family has a theater and I would love to see it."

Senja gave a throaty laugh; "I had Saki before I turned twenty." She wrinkled her nose. "I probably should have waited to be honest but I was young and very much in love." And Rastian had saved her and been so very attractive... I really should have waited but then I wouldn't have my lovely Sakhile and life would be much different, she thought. "Just a flute? My goodness! You have missed out on sooo much!" She grinned and reached out to grab the others hand and drag her along as she headed off. Alkidikes were such a warrior tribe! They really need to sit back and relax and learn other things than fighting, she thought. It would help them so much! Maybe give them other things not aggressive to focus on! "Come along! We've got dancing rooms were we teach people simple dances or practice for performances. Music rooms for the same use, theaters both big and small for plays or musical performances or dance performances! Its really very busy. There's always something to watch at all times. I'll be showing you the back rooms though; since that's where we store our garb for performances or extra clothing."

Ah, that explained it, then! Mnyiri snorted, curling up her own nose. "So long as you were able to give him a good, healthy life what does it matter what age you were? Love is a very powerful thing, and if kids happen then they happen." Mnyiri shrugged her shoulders. Of course, things like unexpected pregnancies weren't a concept in alkidike society, but ageism was still a concept back home. Although elders could be chosen from the young, quite a number of the older set had scoffed at quite a few mothers for going to Aisha so young for blooms. "Besides, if you had waited, you might not have your son, or he could have turned out totally different. Or with, like, one eye that's twice the size of the other...unless he has that already and in which case that's..very unfortunate."
It wasn't difficult for Mnyiri to keep up with the enthusiastic shifter. Even if she hadn't had such a long stride her own rampant energy would have kept her moving! What kinds of things could she have missed out on? The concept of dancing rooms, classes, music and theaters swam around in her head like balls of light. This was going to be great!
"Would they teach me how to dance? Or how to play music or...or anything!" She wanted to try it all, but wondered just how far their hospitality would go towards an alkidike. Senja didn't seem to mind, but would her family be as open?

Senja nodded. "Life happens.. all we do is make the best of it and enjoy what we can. And I do love my baby ..." She laughed. "Odd eyes like that? he'd make a killing in theater! If he wanted to go into that.. but the boy doesn't seem to have an interest. I'd love him anyways if he was ugly or dis-formed." She collected Shilea on her way towards the theater. "If you want to learn then I shall teach! Except singing... Dancing and musical instruments are where my skills lay. Though I mostly do musical pieces now. Haven't really danced on stage in a few years. I suppose I just don't really have the time." She mused as she realized she had mostly done musical performances. When was the last time she'd danced to another's song? "First time is always free but I can sneak you in again later if you want." She winked at the younger girl. "There are privileges to being the main teacher and daughter of the owner!" Her older sister Elsker was going to take over the theater with her older twin brothers doing back up. Senja herself was fine with this: it left more time for her to compose and be with her family. "Do you have any preferences about clothing or dance styles or instruments you'd like to learn?"

"That's a shame. That he doesn't have the interest, not that he isn't deformed." Mnyiri laughed dismissively. Thus far she had learned that kids rarely turned out like their parents, with a few exceptions here and there. In a few aspects she was like her mothers, though for the most part she was too hyper, too bright, and way too loud to truly be what they must have envisioned.
"That sounds great! I can't sing, either; my voice is waaaaayyyy too bad for that, but the other stuff sounds fun." At the older woman's little wink, Mnyiri made an 'ooooh' noise, "Oh, you're bad." She smirked.
Thinking on it, Mnyiri wasn't exactly sure what kind of music she wanted to play. Or what style of dance she should try. "Something with bounce. I like the slower stuff, I mean it's pretty and all, but I get bored."
