She was shaken. She was shaken and there wasn’t much that she could do about it. That knight. Teide had brought up a lot of feelings and thoughts and things she didn’t want to feel and or think. She had to fix it. She had to fix everything.

Cavansite felt someone nearby. Someone on her level. Someone who was not going to make it through the night if she had anything to say about it.

Slowly the lieutenant made her way across the rooftops over to the place where she felt that sweet feeling of an order aura and smirked, seeing someone on the ground below. Yes indeed. It was lights out for them. And she knew just where the starseed would be going. Right in the middle of that damn sparkling hair bow that that damn sparkling knight had given her.

She jumped right off of the roof, landing catlike in front of the page. “Hello there kitten. How are you tonight?”

Cavansite hoped that the knight’s night had been good, because she was going to have a hell of a bad one form here on out.

Kasuga | Page of Cosmos

It had been a beautiful night. One might even call it good if one wanted to graft morality onto the wonders of the universe. But that was the musings such dark evenings could bring so easily. Who could look up at the bright stars and not question such awe-inspiring sights?

A good night it should be then. If only Kasuga knew. The knights of Cosmos knew much of star seeds, but little of their eventual fate...

The lantern the girl held lit the path through the dark. It was her sacred object and she held it carefully as she walked. Each step she took was illuminated by its soft glow.

For a time, only the wind accompanied the page - playing with her long white robes, her pale lavender hair, her star clips that gleamed pastel rainbows as they caught light as they moved. Yet, suddenly, she felt a presense that quivered darkly and made her ill at ease.

"... kitten."

A look of fear filled her once starry eyes as she tried to make out the words in her startled mind.

"Who dares approach without identifying themselves? Declare your name."

“My name? You really want my name, kitten? Perhaps I will tell you my name…at least I’ll let you know before you die.”

It was another one, just like the last. Just like Teide. Cavansite’s eyes flickered to all of the star accessories and the rainbows and…

An intense feeling consumed her. Something that was partway between anger and a strange, disgusting longing. “But then again, I don’t know your name, so why should you ask for mine before offering yours…that’s a little bit…rude, don’t you think?” She plastered a smile on her face, though it was much more forced than it should have been.

This was a fool’s errand. What if she couldn’t do what she was setting out to do? She had no weapon, she had nothing but whatever she was feeling, this intense passion she was feeling. “So, why don’t you tell me your name, kitten. Maybe I’ll even consider not killing you tonight.”

Kasuga | Page of Cosmos

Kasuga listened to the newcomer as she gripped her lantern tightly. What's in a name? A lot, it seems.

"Kasuga."

The Cosmos page locked eyes with the stranger. She was of the enemy. Chaos.

Kasuga was new in the ways of Cosmos, but she knew evil when she saw it. This was an agent of the Negaverse and she, herself, was an ally of the White Moon. There could be no good in this encounter.

"Do you truly wish me harm? We have only just met. Surely even you have better manners than that."

The page had not met a lieutenant without her mentor by her side before.

She was foolish to have taken her nightly walk on her own like this.

Cavansite began to slowly circle the knight, like a lion stalking her prey. “Kasuga, hm? And tell me, Kasuga, just what kind of a knight are you?” She figured it was a good time to learn just what sort of knights the ones with the rainbows and stars and sparkles were…there were just so many of them, and she didn’t understand.

“What do you think, little Kasuga, do you think I really wish to harm you? What do you really, really think. Use that little mind of yours, and reach deep, deep down.”

She paused behind the girl and reached up, playing with a lock of her lavender hair. “You know, I do feel almost sorry for you…you came from the wrong side of this war…If you had joined the right side to begin with…perhaps we could have been friends, you and I. You do seem nice enough.”

Kasuga | Page of Cosmos

One corrupted by Chaos who did not know the sign of Cosmos. Perhaps she stood a chance after all.

"I am a knight of Cosmos."

The words weighed heavy on her. As if for the first time, she understood their meaning. She was blessed by the protecter of star seeds and she had a duty to confront Chaos.

"I think you mean harm to all of us." Her reply was like stone and her voice void of emotion.

She tried to stay calm and detached. But, somehow, she couldn't. Some other force pulled at her. She didn't know what. Yet...

"Maybe we could... Could have been friends... In some other time."

Kasuga suddenly felt a strange sadness pull at her heart. But why?

She could only flinch as the girl brushed her flowing locks like it was nothing.

Cosmos. Was this the type of knight she had kept meeting over and over and over again? It had to be. This one looked just like all of them. It felt like one mystery was solved, but in solving it, a half dozen more questions popped into her mind.

Oh well.

Cavansite grinned as the page flinched away from her touch…though this was how it should be. This was how she wanted them all to be. Afraid. Trembling.

They should all know of the power of the Negaverse.

Slowly she walked back around, lightly trailing her fingers over the girl’s shoulder and down her chest, pausing when it was right over the place where her starseed lay.

“Now…you had wanted to know my name, right little kitten?” Her violet eyes were locked onto Kasuga’s, and a moment later, she had slid her hand right into that pretty little chest.

“I did promise to tell you before you died…so I suppose it’s as good a time as any.” Her fingers closed gently around the glowing crystal that was essentially the page’s soul. The woman’s grin turned to an almost feral expression. “My name is Cavansite, and it was a true pleasure to have met you, Kasuga.”

She wrapped her free arm around the page, gripping her lightly, almost tenderly, and drew the starseed out of the safety of her chest.

Kasuga | Page of Cosmos

Perhaps in another life. Another time. Another place.

But not now.

Kasuga could feel the girl's hand. At first, it was warm on her chest. An almost familiar heat. A caress. But then it grew cold. Like a dying star enveloped by its own power as it fades away. A darkness that you could feel inside.

The page tried to speak, but she could not. The words would not come. Barely a whisper now could be heard from her - a brief echo of words spoken before.

"... Friend."

In this life, it couldn't have gone any other way.

The maiden of Cosmos fell and all light, indeed all hope, was now gone from her blank eyes. There was nothing else to give them their shine. Not even the stars in the twilight above could animate her once bright eyes now.

For there was no longer a star seed - the only light that could rival the stars themselves - to shine back at them.

The lantern, once the possession of a knight of Cosmos, shattered as it hit the cold pavement.

And the light went out.

Cavansite was very quiet, and for one horrible moment, she had the overwhelming temptation to put the starseed back in, to save the girl to…

She held the starseed gently in her hand and looked at it, willing her heart to harden and go back to as it was before. Finally she drew in a breath and found her voice once again. “Thank you for this, friend. I’ll put it to good use. Not to worry. Not to worry at all.”

With one last look at the lifeless body of Kasuga, the lieutenant took off, stuffing the starseed into her subspace pocket, and heading to the bar.

She needed to get drunk.
