Sylvite had been fighting the ropes tying her hands to some anchor point above her since she had woken up, alone. At first, she'd been very dramatic about it, pulling with all her might like they would snap. They didn't snap. It was pretty dumb. She got that it took more than superpowers to take down magical space pirates, but ropes? Superpowers should've been more than enough for ropes.

Since she was already tired- fighting, it seemed, even really, really bad attempts at it that mostly involved screaming and getting knocked out, was hard- she didn't have the energy to keep that up for long. She sank to the floor and switched to trying to get the loops over her hands, but they were tight, and wrapped around several times, and even after what seemed like forever, all she'd accomplished was rubbing her wrists raw. Still, her choices were to freak out or to at least try to do something, so she kept at it until she noticed someone approaching her cell. Then, she shoved her hands to the ground with a bit of a nervous squeak, eyes going wide.

"...Hi?" His aura had even more of that gross off-sweetness in it than normal. Eww.

There was a pounding in his head. A consistent throb of pathetic pathetic pathetic was beating its way against his skull in time to the slow and steady rhythm of his heart, pressed inside a chest that felt too small to contain it properly. Celsus stood inside the cell with one hand on the door, blocking most of the dim lighting so that shadows stretched spindle legged across the cold floor.

"I cold hear your screams all the way down the hallway," he said flatly, and closed the door with a quiet thud and a rattle of bars. Celsus leaned back against it and crossed one foot over the other, the dark circles beneath his eyes giving him a sunken, almost hollow look.

"What's your name?"

"Oops," said Sylvite in a voice that was distinctly unapologetic, pointing her own weary face up at his. Maybe she had been screaming. She'd been crying, too. It hurt, but he didn't seem to care about that. If they tied her up, they were going to have to deal with her loudly trying to escape. She wasn't trying to be polite... it wasn't until seconds later that she realized he was saying that she hadn't been the most subtle.

Or... was he mad about the screaming? Was he going to try to make her stop... like, by hurting her again? He seemed really strong. She scooted back several inches until she was as flat as she could make herself in a corner. "I'm A-" She stopped short. Sylvite, she reminded herself. Sylvite, Sylvite, Sylvite. She needed to stop with the whole almost giving her real name to her enemies thing. "...um, Sylvite. When can I go home?" It was a serious question, and she met his gaze with her teary eyes, silently pleading.

Her less-than-sincere answer only goaded Celsus further into his state of irritation. He waited for her to actually respond to the second question, silent and cold, and pushed aside the continual throb of voices in his head.

"Not now," he said, ignoring the glassy look to her eyes and walking towards her. "Not until after you answer a few questions for me, if that."

Celsus folded his arms across his chest, feeling the point of the Chronos pendant digging into his sternum.

"How long have you been in the Negaverse now, Sylvite?"

"You didn't have to do all this to ask us stuff," she said stiffly. Her back was pressed uncomfortably against the wall, but she didn't dare move. It was rare for her to be this still. She blinked a few times until the tears cleared. She wasn't trying to look pitiful. "We would've talked to you."

The emphasis was put on the past tense. Now, she really didn't want to, but if he was trying to intimidate her, it was working... even if he wasn't, she had never been the defiant type.

"But- uh, almost two months, I guess? It was about Thanksgiving. I dunno the date."

Celsus made a half-strangled sound in the back of his throat that might have been a laugh; or it might have been a derisive snort, some terrible mixture of the two. He turned his head away from her for a moment, closing his eyes against the pounding in his skull before he opened them again.

"No, you wouldn't have," he said flatly. "None of you would have, none of you are smart enough to talk. It would be easier, so much easier, if there was just a smidgen of intelligence, but I guess that must just be the qualifier for entering the Negaverse, isn't it? Not having any?"

He swallowed against the bile rising in his throat, self-loathing twisting his stomach and why, why was he doing this? She hadn't done anything wrong -

Yes she has, they all have.

"What do you do in the Negaverse?"

She was trying to be strong. She was trying so hard to be strong... but she had never wanted to be strong like this.

She'd thought he was going to hurt her, but insults were unexpected and sunk deep. Her first reaction was nonverbal, another squeak. He wasn't even right... Maybe Umber wouldn't have talked, but Chrysocolla was smart and nice, she would've, and Sylvite was trying to be nice, and cooperative and everything... a good prisoner or whatever, even though her wrists were raw and she hadn't had food in hours, but he was still being mean to her just to be mean. At that realization, she pushed through the fear for a moment, and all of her frustration with the whole situation came to the surface.

"...I guess you shouldn't be here then. Like, I'm super dumb, what am I gonna tell you? I bet if you get far enough away my screams won't even bother you!" Her courage didn't last long. As if on cue, there was a faint scream in the distance... or maybe it was just the groan of one of the rusted doors opening, but she deflated instantly, tears threatening once more.

"Sorry! Don't hurt me... please... uh, I'm in training. I train," she said quickly. "...when I remember."

He kept pacing, because standing still was impossible. His body was tense, as taut as a wire, and Celsus' shaking fingers kept flexing and curling as though he was barely restraining the urge to do something with them. Every so often, he turned his head to look at the lieutenant, eyes darting in their direction.

A harsh laugh escaped him.

"Don't try that with me," said Celsus, in an uneven voice, waving a hand. "Don't - don't do that. Don't try that logic with me, trying to get on my good side, as though any of you are even capable of that. You may be lacking in some areas of intelligence, but you're in the Negaverse."

His cape was rustling around his ankles, dragging on the floor, and the hem of it was dusty and dirty, ripped in some parts.

"What sort of training?" Celsus demanded. "Fighting?"

As the insults kept coming, becoming less and less logical -she wasn't trying to get on his good side, he was mean- something dark bubbled up inside Sylvite. They were strange, angry thoughts. If she had a chance- if she wasn't tied up, helpless, on the floor, she wanted to hurt him, to wrap her fingers around his throat until he stopped... But that was all deep inside her mind. Mostly what she was was scared.

"Okay! Okay..." she said quietly, relaxing just enough to curl up in an attempt to make herself even smaller.

"Not fighting. Not yet. I mean... I probably could've done it by now if I wanted to, but fighting's hard, and you can get hurt... and yeah. I didn't know you guys were gonna do this or I would've! I've been learning about like, you guys, and the war, reincarnation, space pirates, stuff like that, from Chrysocolla, mostly." Her eyes widened at the end. She probably shouldn't have said that... but since she had, since he knew they knew each other... Her voice softened and her brows knit a little as she asked, "Is she okay? I know she's here..."

He didn't need to summon his weapon, not really. It remained hidden away, unnecessary for the time being, because Celsus could see the fragility of this particular agent. Words should have been enough; maybe threats, if he could word them properly.

Celsus gave a shake of his throbbing head, ignoring the question about her friend.

"Tell me about what you know about us," he said roughly. "What do they teach you of the Order? Of the White Moon?"

The headshake made Sylvite's heard beat faster. It didn't seem like a good sign.

"Um, you're space pirates. Not literally, that's just the way I like to think of it, but you took over the galaxy a long time ago and now you're all being reborn to finish the job. Except you don't remember any of that stuff... you think you're good, but you kill things. We're here to protect Earth, we get weapons and powers and stuff. You guys are... Order, I think. I don't know anything about the White Moon. Senshi have magic, knights have weapons..."

Her words came stiffly, and after awhile, she paused, not sure if she was rambling or not saying enough. "That's the basics. There's other stuff. We're named after rocks?" She frowned in frustration and met his gaze again. "...Why are you asking me this? You're really strong. You should know."

"Space pirates?" Celsus repeated, with a slightly derisive snort. "That's certainly an interesting way of putting it. How very...theatrical."

He paced again, shifting back and forth, jittery and unsteady on his feet. He wanted to laugh, wanted to yell, wanted to do a great deal more than just be here, and yet he couldn't go. He couldn't just walk away from it anymore, couldn't just leave.

"I know plenty already," said Celsus, "I just want to hear what you know. And also, that lie you all tell yourself." Another snort. "None of you are really here to protect earth. You want to claim it. There is a difference."

"Whatever," she said, not really knowing what he was talking about, but not about to give him the satisfaction of asking about it.

"Look," she said, her voice high pitched and a little shaky, but the anger was there again. She glared over her knees. "You can't just, like hurt me and hurt my friend and shove me in a cage and tie me up and take out your horrible day... nah, your whole frikin' horrible existence, which must be pretty bad if this is what it takes to make you feel better or whatever, out on me, and then act like we're the bad guys!" Her glare intensified, her volume rose... and then a sob stuck in her throat.

She lowered her face into her knees as she began to cry. "There's not even water here. I'm gonna die, right? Just... stop. Please. I wanna go home."

He listened to her spit out words of anger and frustration, and it should have done something. It should have done something, should have made him feel something more than this awful, wracking sensation of emptiness that was twisting and curling in his stomach.

Eventually there would be nothing left of him.

"Who says I'm hurting you?" Celsus asked. "And last I checked - "

His hoarse, weary voice took on a sharper note, but the tremble betrayed it.

"Last I checked, you were the ones who took me," he whispered. "Took me and broke one of my fingers, took me and my colleagues - " Not friends, I don't have any of those, not really. " - and kept us locked up for hours, days on end."

He shook his head, closing his eyes briefly.

"I'm not in the habit of killing people," Celsus said, "but I don't know what will happen to you."

"Not you," she said, the words coming, muffled, out of the miserable ball she had curled herself up into. "You guys. You guys hurt me." It was the truth. There were bruises on her face, maybe more hiding under her uniform, and her head throbbed. She couldn't even pretend to fight, but she had not walked willingly into this cage... and that wasn't mentioning her wrists, which were a little more her fault, but not really... no, she wouldn't be trying to escape if she wasn't here.

She dared a look at him as he talked, her face properly tear-stained now. "So you know? You know how much this sucks and you're still doing it to people... people who weren't even there? People who never hurt anyone?" Somewhere in the back of her throat there was a very bitter giggle. "Yeah... that's totally heroic."

His last comment chilled her more than she wanted to admit. She hugged her knees even tighter and stared at his shoes.
