Quote: It had been a long time since Mehira had ventured far from the shore her friends constantly stayed on and on her first trip out she made a new friend! His name was Orpheus and he was rather unusual. He spoke in an eerie tone that would send shivers down the backs of the faint at heart. Being someone that was hard to spook, however, his voice merely intrigued her. The mare had great pleasure in getting to know him and learning of his past. It saddened her that there were those out in the sea who could be so cruel. It really struck a cord with how she grew up. Vowing to give him a never ending friendship like she had received for the first time by a different small pony, she invited him to join her a little closer to the shore and spin her a story. Quote: Orpheus had traveled through many groups since leaving his birth school. Every where he went they treated him much the same way. He was met with open hostility and forced to move along shortly after reaching each group. It hurt at first, but eventually the small black and orange male learned to ignore it. It was shortly after he began to let the hate roll off him that he met his first friend. Mehira was a Kelpi and much bigger than himself. Not once did she cringe or show him any kind of loathing. For the Seathi it was a refreshing change. He found it very easy to open up to her and was pleasantly surprised when she showed interest into listening to one of his stories. When she suggested the move a little closer to shore, Kelpi could not stay submerged forever, he followed without hesitation. Once she had settled down, the dark male spun her a dark and twisted tale. Quote: Finnian tended to stay in shallower waters than many mer Soquili chose to. He found the rush of the tide to be exciting, and the wildlife, while less varied than that in the colder depths, seemed to agree with him more. Here, the sun shined through the water much easily, aiding his poor vision and helping him to stay warm. He found that not only could he not see in the dark frigid waters of the deep, but the cold made him lethargic and more vulnerable to the larger predators. Life in the shallows was lonely and uneventful, but it seemed that it was the life bound for him. He swam awkwardly day in and day out, unsure of how to spend his time. Today, though, things were different. In the distance, he could have sworn he spotted something. It was significantly larger than a crab, and there were two of them! Squinting, he shouted. "Hello?! Are those Soquili I see?!"

Quote: The Kelpi's ear twitched at the sound of the voice calling out to her and her miniature friend. Her red eyes skimmed over the lulling tide to see whom it was that was speaking. The female's eyes spotted the Mer easily in the blue water. "Hello!" Her voice vibrated back in a loud timbre. A chuckle soon followed as she replied to his question. "Yes, we Soquili be." The chuckle remained as she turned to look at her friend. "It seems we will need to pause in your wonderful tale for the moment." With that she moved herself to be able to better greet this second male. Quote: The small male sighed softly as this stranger moved in toward them. He did not begrudge his larger friend for calling out to the other, but he still shifted to being on edge. Orpheus was very wary of others and this was not his first time meeting a Mer. They were just as bad if not worse than those of his own kind. Still, the miniture stallion found it odd to see the large male this close to shore. Was it at all common for them to be this close? He shook his head causing the sun to glint off his orange markings making them brighter. It wasn't common for Seathi to be this close either. Quote: A great smile immediately crossed his face when the mare replied to his questioning. He swam toward her slowly, unable to tell quite how far away she was. Upon drawing nearer, though, he had to squint more. Were those... Legs? He'd met a land mare once, when he ventured to shore, but he certainly didn't think they could talk under water! No, there was something off about this mare, and he wasn't entirely sure that he trusted it. He continued to draw nearer, albeit cautiously, and examined her when he got close enough. The fins and tail seemed to be well enough in place, but... Those hooves! It just didn't seem natural. Was she okay? Was she born that way or had she grown those appendages from living close to the ocean? Or perhaps she'd grown legs from living so close to the shore! Was he going to grow an extra set of legs?! The questions raced through his mind faster than he could speak, and he just stammered as he stared at the mare with awe. "B... You..." He blew bubbles in frustration. "You're not what I'm used to... And you.. Have... Scales?" He'd certainly never heard of such a creature, and his shock was evident. Trying to collect himself, the stallion continued to stare at the mare. He took in everything, from her head fins to her quadruple hooves, her large fins and her finned tail. Was he seeing this right? Surely it couldn't be something that happened naturally. He gaped and stuttered awkwardly, trying to figure out what to say. Finally came a meek, but audible, "Hello..." This was certainly not something he expected to encounter. "Are you... Real? Or am I just making this up?" He had come across things before that seemed too odd to be true, and it usually turned out that they were. He had quite the imagination, and he was well aware of it. "I just. I'm sorry, but you wouldn't be the first thing I've seen that wasn't real." He frowned awkwardly. Was he just talking to the waves? "So uh. If you're real. Can you tell me what you are? Because I've never seen anything like you." He waited rather impatiently for an answer, swimming around her in circles to look her over more. Without thinking, he made his way beneath her as well, his tail whipping up a cloud of sand that immediately obscured his vision. "Oh no. Oh dear, I can't see. Are you still there?" He closed his eyes to avoid getting anything in them and swam away from the cloudy water. "I've come this way! Follow my voice! Oh dear. I mean, that is if you're real anyway!" He sighed at the thought. It wasn't often that his mind played tricks on him, but living in the shallows had always been a rather lonely existence.
