The crunch of snow beneath the mare's weight was awfully uncomfortable for her. Although she'd managed to barter for a makeshift pair of a sort of glove for her claws, they weren't exactly water proof. Vanity Rose sighed. Well, they were at least better than having nothing between the frozen collection of crystals and her delicate little appendages. While her skin was blue, the quick beneath her perfectly groomed white talons were not, and she certainly would not have her pink quick showing through! She knew she should be hunting, but instead she was headed to see her father. Although the gardening season was long over, Calla ran a little greenhouse a bit away from the cave. The thought of warm-colored flowers was just what the young mare needed on such a dismal day.

Upon reaching her father's little paradise, the hybrid grinned. She had abstained from coming into the greenhouse for as long as she could possibly stand, as her father always told her it wasn't quite beautiful enough for her to see yet. Vanity didn't quite fully understand his crazy antics, but she knew that Calla thought the world of what he always called, "his little star." But she'd assured him that anything he could manage to grow in such desolate conditions would be more than beautiful enough for anybody. Plus, she wished to linger by the blooms for a perfume effect. She recalled how lovely her father always smelled, and whenever she asked him where he got the scent, he'd always tell her that it just came with the flower territory.

Ever so quietly, the mare nudged the door to the greenhouse open. She peered around the warm cave, a small fire burning in the back with water buckets all around, apparently to prevent the water from freezing. It never took the raccoons very long to shovel the thin glass ceiling after a snow storm. Not only would the plants likely die without the much needed sparse sunlight this time of the year, but should the roof break from the weight of the snow, losing the food growing within the greenhouse would be catastrophic to some of the creatures depending on it. They likely wouldn't be able to build a new roof until the snow melted, and whatever food they could save would have to be eaten before it went bad. But Vanity didn't dwell on such things. The floral scent and the warm air was exactly what she needed.

Carefully, she shut the door behind her and headed for the fireplace. She examined the flowers on her way there. Carnations on one side, roses on the other, lilies and other blooms in between. Her lips curled into a small smile, and upon reaching the fire, she turned around to get a birds-eye-view of the entire scene. Yes, she had been right. This was exactly what she'd needed. The mixed scent of burning oak and blooming flowers was an odd but favorable one, and once she felt warm enough, the mare made her way back to the flowers. "Roses," she chirped, "I should have known." She sniffed at a white one and gingerly broke it from its stem. Humming softly, she placed it at the base of her tail. Oh, how lovely, she thought. Just like me.

She sniffed at the rose happily, certain that her father planted them just for her and that they were intended for her own enjoyment. She smiled, looking up at her reflection in the glass ceiling. Oh, it did look lovely! Of course it would add to her already marvelous appearance, and that's definitely why her father planted them. She did a little twirl, making sure not to trip over her long mane or tail, watching her reflection all the while. She hummed and danced through the rows of flowers, her bells adding to her private little performance for one. She giggled as she rounded the corners, gracefully maneuvering in a way that her tail wouldn't disturb the still-potted plants around her. Oh, this life was so good, and it was good because it was her own.

Upon finishing her little dance, Vanity walked through the flowers once more, eyeing the roses. She felt that she needed more of them, and perhaps some lilies to complement them. Making her decisions carefully, the hybrid plucked only the most perfect of blooms, and planned to get them tied into her mane and tail by one of her raccoon servants before going home so she could show herself off to her father. Oh, how happy he would be to see what a lovely addition he'd made to her appearance! If somehow she could become more perfect, she felt that these precious blooms her father had grown her were just the thing. Humming softy, Vanity Rose continued through the flowers, circling back and forth to choose those worthy of her wear.

The petite mare danced her way through the aisles, humming a soft tune and making the most of her belled bracelets to add to the tune. Oh, if only she had an audience! This could be quite the performance. Nonetheless, she performed for the flowers, certain that her beauty and grace would inspire them to grow to be as lovely as her. Not feeling quite as inspired as normal, however, she stopped to rearrange some of the plants and buckets in a way that made them appear to be surrounding and admiring her. Once happy with her handiwork, Vanity plucked another rose to add to her tail, which flowed behind her delicately as she left the the plant for another. Smiling brightly, she nabbed another rose to add to the small collection.

Vanity continued on with this trend of plucking flowers for quite some time, humming merrily as she did so. It didn't take long for the mare to adorn herself with nearly all of the flowers in the nursery, and she stared blankly at the now naked plants. "Oh no... What have I done?" She frowned, knowing that while she looked absolutely ravishing, her father had worked hard on growing these flowers, likely for bouquets or adornments for the entirety of the herd. The guilt lasted for several moments before she noticed her reflection in the glass roof and smiled. She really did look perfect, didn't she? Surely her father would forgive her for using all of his precious blooms, especially when they looked this great! Vanity's worries quickly vanished, but reappeared when she heard the creaking of the entry door. She gasped and stared at the door, hoping it was just a familiar checking in on things.
