Sauron had just come from another jungle foray into his small Jauhar town, it was a quiant place, cozy and had claimed his heart since the beginning of time, he had been born in Ast and had raised two sets of babbins here with his beautiful wife and lately he would say that there was nothing here that could or would surprise him, and yet the forest still held many mysteries unbeknowst to the old shifter, one of them was about to alter his views yet again.

Change and new things were always exciting and once something surprised you, you learned to appreciate it that much more. As it was dark out he thought nothing of the shifter girl ahead of him. "Hello there, out for a walk I see. Pleasant weather we are having, though I wouldn't say it would be long before it decides to rain."

Lana was lucky that it was night. All of the Shifters in the area were already pale-skinned and so she fit in quite well among them. The Alkidike didn't glance her way twice. All that didn't match was her gems, and in the dark it didn't matter anyway. She was surprised, though, when one of the Shifters decided to talk to her. He was an older man and hopefully harmless at this time of night. She had come to Jauhar to grab some fruits and make a few trades for the family. She enjoyed her days traveling. It didn't bother her at all.

"No, I don't think so," she said, peering up at the sky. The stars were mostly hidden behind clouds. She might normally have said she still had a ways to go, but she had a cowl and this Shifter probably preferred to think she was one too. It wasn't all a lie. She was a part Shifter! "I just came into town for a few trades." She gestured with the bag slung over her shoulder. "How about you? Just out wandering?" She did that too sometimes.

"Yep! I was just out looking for anything new or unusual. It's a bit of a hobby of mine. I don't worry too much about traveling out there, because of my radaku here, hes quite friendly don't worry, he will probably come say hello."

Skava was as good as Sauron's word and bumped her hand for a pet. "His name is Skava and mine is Sauron, I don't think I've seen you around so welcome to Ast." He liked seeing new people around especially since all the wars had settled down again. He disliked the necessity for edginess he preferred a sound welcome to suspicion himself and figured others would appreciate it too.

Hm. That was sort of an odd hobby, Lana thought. Just coming out to see if anything had changed? Then again, maybe the wars had made people wary. Heck, maybe she was just overthinking it. She got excited to see a new product in the market too.

"Oh, aren't you a sweet thing?" she asked the radaku then, happily rubbing its head. Skava, was it? Skava and Sauron. "Oh, thank you." It was rare for someone to be so kind but, again, in the dark she did seem like a Shifter. "You live here, then? It's a beautiful settlement." She meant it too. The way Shifters lived up in the trees had always seemed so unusual to her, and their homes seemed so elegant.

"Yes I've lived here pretty much all my life, except for the odd time during the war." There had been times where the further away one got from exciting things the safer you had been. "You look about the same age as some of my kids, I'm sure they wouldn't be opposed to another friend," well Vallen might be but Vallen was an odd child.

Skava licked her, letting Sauron know that the girl wasn't giving off any terrifying vibes, not that he expected her too. "Have you been to the traders yet? I can put in a good word for you at the apothecary if you like, I'm one of their suppliers."
PostPosted: Thu Jan 14, 2016 12:17 pm

"Oh, really? That would be fantastic," Lana said, "I've already gone through tonight but that doesn't mean I won't be back. Ast is good for trading." And for not feeling so odd as a hybrid, considering the diversity there. She did not comment on making friends with this man's children. Friends weren't really high on her priority list, but they might be interesting. Who knew?

"I'm Lana, by the way. It's just a nickname, but the other option is a bit long and difficult." Nobody deserved to have six syllables in their name! Lana was fond of hers, but that didn't mean it was easy to relay. "What is it you supply?" People did all sorts of things, but this one in particular was a bit too fit to just be an alchemist.

Sauron tried and failed not to be a bit embarassed. "Um moss actually, it's always been a hobby of mine as far back as I can remember." He scratched the back of his head. "But that is just something I do in my spare time, I'm a full time Dad striving to become a rider one day. Its a long journey and somedays I'm surprised at how old I've actually become in what seemed like such a short time. But age is hard to adjust to at the best of times."

"Lana has a nice ring to it." he complimented, he was kind of curious about what the rest of it might be and how it could be too terrible to utter, after his world of V names he was sure it wouldn't be all that bad.

"Are you out from another shifter village? Or did you perhaps come form further away." Contrary to popular belief there were shifters outside of Jauhar they just were not as common for obvious reasons.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 14, 2016 12:46 pm

Moss! Huh! See, there she was thinking there was nobody interesting left at this time of night. She personally couldn't imagine carving moss of of rocks for sale but if Sauron enjoyed it then more power to him.

"How many children do you have?" she asked, hoping she wasn't overstepping any boundaries.

"Oh, no, I'm just from one of the outer villages," Lana half-lied with a smile. Sure, an outer village. Way outer. Like out in Sauti. She preferred to give the impression that she was from some small Shifter village rather than a different land entirely. Shifters lived everywhere, sure, but it was easier to pretend.

"Five if you can believe it, all have very distinct personalities which I must say I was rather surprised at, but shouldn't have been I suppose." He shrugged, "Soon enough they will be off adventuring too. I had expected they would have left Jauhar by now though, especially the older two but the political atmosphere being what it was at the time seems to have had some hand in stopping them. I'm happier now that most everyone seems to be getting along in some way or another. Except for those poor Yaeli's having the crazy alk ladies dumped on them, I don't think that was fair, but at the same time I don't want to have to deal with them myself..again." he said remembering the battle where Vuka got his limp and Vallen got that slash, he knew his son thought it was rather dashing but it had just miss an eye for craps sake.

"Have you seen any Yaeli yet in your travels between towns? I think I would like to meet one."
PostPosted: Thu Jan 14, 2016 1:05 pm

"Oh, wow," Lana said with a little laugh, "I'm an only child myself." It made sense that Shifters would avoid leaving their settlements when the Alkidike had turned on them. She had been only young when the Obans had come, too young to remember it at all.

"The Yaeli took them upon themselves, didn't they? At least that's what my father said," the young hybrid reasoned and then shook her head. "No, I've never met one myself. My father says he saw them when they came from the south. I'd like to meet one myself. They seem so mysterious." Now there was all this talk about black monsters on their island. The poor people. They had been forgotten by Tendaji, and now their own island was supposedly revolting against them.

... but she'd bet she could pass as an albino Yaeli if her eyes glowed properly.

"I'm not really sure, its all very vague from what I have been hearing, perhaps your Father has better sources and he would to if he has met some. All I'm getting is rumor passed to others passed to others." He nodded, "I think they would like it here of course we have our own monsters in the dretch but hey there is a lot more room and a lot more people to fight, and I would fight if someone were after my children. I was an only child too but that doesn't mean I don't want to protect all of them even those not my own."

"I sincerely hope they don't try fighting I am getting so tired of war. I've been in two and they are never a good time."
PostPosted: Sat Jan 16, 2016 7:15 am

Ah, so he may carry a weapon but this Shifter was definitely a family man... even other families. Had she been smaller herself she might have felt safe admitting her heritage. Then again, this Sauron hadn't asked, only assumed.

"I was too young to remember the Oban war," Lana admitted, shifting her traveling sack from one shoulder to the other, "Both of my parents were involved in the last two. My father's a soldier, but my mother is more of a magic crafter, so I was safe away from the front lines." If she was the age of some of his children, his too had experienced war. The poor things. 'Never a good time' was a bit of an understatement. "I hope so too. I don't want to see any more of them. As for my father, he has never met a Yaeli, only seen them. He has, however, had the unpleasant occasion to meet the dretch."

"Oh my mistake then, forgive me. I know someone who has met the dretch as well, to this day she maintains a hatred of bugs." In fact Iroia was staying with them for a while, her and her son Arron, who seemed also to dislike bugs, however he had come home one day covered in nondwa dust and after he was questioned told Saron and Iroia that he and some friends had caught one, so perhaps he was a little more fond of them then his mother was.

"I however haven't had the displeasure, I hear they are quite disgusting and fantastically creepy." He had contemplated hutning some down for practice not long ago but with the trip to Oba coming up soon he thought better of it. "It astounds me that they can use magic," he added wistfuly, he had minimal power at best and had never gone into it far enough to learn much.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 19, 2016 2:49 pm

"Oh, no, there's nothing to apologize for," Lana said with a dismissive wave of the hand. Honestly she didn't know why he considered himself mistaken. "I like bugs personally, but might be biased. I have a nondwa myself, and she's a pretty thing if I may say so."

Lana waved to the trees as if beckoning them toward her and a nondwa appeared, glowing slightly, and landed atop her head. They were similarly pale, these two, and the nondwa fairly Shifter-appropriate lunar markings. Of course they were a bit of a ways from home. Lana laughed and looked up at the creature, then continued as if nothing was amiss.

"I've heard they're nothing like nondwa. Or kipepwa. Maybe more maglardilla-like? They have strange jaws, my father says, but he doesn't say much else. I think he thinks he'll frighten me. Do they use magic? I had no idea. Insects don't seem like the type to wild magic..." Wynna took off from Lana, causing the hybrid to stumble a little, but she just laughed again and watched the creature flap a moment.

"Oh, I can send her back away if you like. Do radaku eat nondwa?"

"From what my friend tells me they mostly ue magic over weapons, but that could be false." Sauron glanced at the pretty Nondwa, "Well I've never seen one quite that beautiful before, where did you happen to find her?" It was a startling nondwa in fact, elegant, well more so then other nondwa.

"Radaku do eat nondwa but they prefer other things fortunately, he shouldn't bother it all that much, hes well fed so no worries there."

"I don't think any of my family have nondwa, but perhaps some point in the future one of my children may decide to bring one home." He shrugged.
