The temple itself was well cared for, but its inhabitants or rather a single item was the cause for the glares and distrust. The Dark Tablet was housed within this temple, it held the secrets to the element it was named for. There was anger and dissaproving speculation as to wether or not it was evil simply because it had the word 'dark' on and in it. People that were any older than twenty still remembered the fear that the 'dark' side had brought to them. Anyone under seventeen would have knowledge of what had happened, but they wouldn't feel as if it affected them personally. (Even though it affected anyone older than fifteen.)

You would walk onto the grounds and see a japanese styled medium sized temple. It had a number of steps to travel up, as all temples seem to have. Entering the temple you would think someone had turned off the sun. No fire would sustain in the same room as the tablet because, of course, it was the tablet of Darkness. A number of feet away from you would be a wall with some benches and such things along it for visitors to sit on. There were only a few priests and priestess' around. It makes you wonder about the apparent evilness of the dark, is it truly that bad?

There are living quarters a ways behind the temple and you can see through the windows that, though they are open to thier widest they shed no light inside. You absently note that the sun is shining brightly outside. Anyway, the quarters are a lot worse than the temple, in some places you could see the rot in the wood where paint and plaster had chipped off.

You sigh and think to yourself, such is the fate of those that serve the dark.

((You can be a priest or priestess, a visitor/patron, or someone that lives in the quarters with the priests and priestess'. It'll give you all a chance to roleplay like people in heavy poverty that are full of angst and such things.))

A new country has been discovered far to the east, and the tension is growing.
Jadeira has finished her training, and now presides over the kings and Queens in Esperanza. The chaos to the east has caused much disturbance. Fear that Pearle, and Houka will turn on their neghbors causes turmoil among the many smaller kingdoms, and alliances are forming. Since the west has not yet recovered entirely from Laos' last attempt at power, there's not enough people to defend Esperanza were an attack staged, for more than a few months.
Things have been as normal as can be expected for the last two years,
Until lately that is.

For two moons a young girl has been found dead on the alter in the dark temple.
These events have left everyone confused, and sick with fear.
So far, after examinations of the bodies no evidence as to the cause of their deaths has been found. No scratches of abrasions anywhere on the body, no poison in the veins, Every woman is in the peak of condition save for the obvious. They're dead.

They walked into a long hallway.
The area as so dark and gloomy, it was hard for Otimaru to see the preist in front of him.
"Unholy Fi-" he began but the holy man swiftly turned and placed his finger on Otimru's lips.
"Please, no magic here, this is a neutral area, wait until we reach your chamber." With that the priest turned and continues down the corrider.
They paced in silence for awhile until small torches with ebony flames perched on the wall. "Excuse me, not ot be rude, but are those flames not kept ablaze with mystical energies?"
The priest chuckled and explained;
"Ah yes, you are observant, but you are also mistaken. Those flames are made black by the black light waves in her. Those fires are actaully bring red and yellow, but the dark light in here plays tricks on your eyes." Once more, he turned and kept walking down the hall.
"I wonder what kind of room this will actaully be?" He thought.
"Here we are, young monk, beyond this door, your test awaits." turned and stepped sideways to stretch out his hand towards the door, as if to display it.
"Good luck." and he started to venture back to the main room.
Otimaru stepped forward slightly and studied the grand door before him.
It seemd to be of elven design, with it's intricate carvings and unique knob shape.
"Well, here goes...", he reached ahead and took hold of the handel and turned.
A lash of shadows and Otimaru been transported to...the Trials of Shadows.

((Sorry for not responding to your question. The rp slows every once in a while. The places you fully expect to be popular are sometimes...not. Most of the people that are 'oldbies' if you will, are roleplaying in the same place because they are used to doing so. (We had about five active members before a few weeks ago...) The new people have mostly followed them in their roleplaying. Thus, the roleplaying is concentrated in one or two threads instead of spread out as it probably should be.))

Emiko watched as he disappeared. So, that is what others see. She then headed back. Soon she got there and then went to a window, looking out. She saw how bright everything was, and was slightly stunned. I suppose I have stayed inside for too long. She looked around, then spotted a man with a griffin. Se watched them, and then her eyes grew irritated from the light, and looked back inside. For the first time in a while, her vision in the darkness was unfocused. She sighed, then headed back to the main room.

((I have no clue what to post. Hmm...))

Emiko hid in the shadows once again, her attension on the other priests speaking. Though she found herself drifting off, curious how the new boy did. She then overheard that he had obsorbed all of the darkness during the test. Her eyes went abit wide. I hadn't know that doing that was even possible. Heh, I guess I really have stayed in the shadows for too long. I barely know what has happened in two years... She looked down, then looked back up at the others in the room. She then slowly drifted out of the room, wondering where the newcomer was. she soon stopped and closed her eyes, listening to everything around her, being sure she didn't make a sound herself. She soon heard talking, then headed in the direction. She soon found herself seeing the main priest. She hid, knowing she wasn't supposed to be there. She looked at the newcomer, then back at the priest.

Otimaru looked up from his scroll, he had been studying and training non-stop ever since he had become a warrior monk. He had heard a sound near him, a tiny screeching eminated from the door. He silently walked over, his eyes perpetually re-scanning the door, looking for even the slightest movement. He knelt to the source of the sound, the door handel, was somebody picking his door? He stood back and opened the door with magic. A small boy leaped back, with a scared look on his face, at the furry young man who stood before him, wit ha fierce look in his eyes.
"Why were you picking my door?" he asked, tilting his head slightly, narrowing his eyes.
"I..I was..trying to get into your room." he said, looking down.
"Why, might I ask, would you do that?" Otimaru knelt down to the boy, his expression was softer.
"They said you had treasures...I..I wanted to get them, so I could trade for food..." the boy was still looking shaken, his hands were trembeling. Otimaru smiled, his fangs slipping out of his lips. He put his hand out and a bag of fruit appeared in it.
"This bag holds nine "Favorite Fruit", you eat these, and it'll take on the taste of your favorite food...." he dropped the bag into the boys hands, ruffled his hair and sent him off. He watched run off, around the corner before he turned to go back into his room.

((Oh, c'mon, no one can think of anything to post? Somebody post soemthing already!))
