Monsters?

With the recently discovered Yaeli, the land of Tendaji has been abuzz with talk and gossip about their new neighbors. They're odd, they're strange and skittish, their eyes glow - but that can't possibly be true most say - the word on the street is that they're starting to leave their island. Those that had met the Yaeli know that it's an odd thing to hear. They were terrified of the outsiders, why would they leave their safe villages...
Rumors are filling the toxic island where the Alkidikes extremists were banished along with the Matron. Rumors of monsters clawing their way out of the earth with oil black skin and glowing evil eyes that are even weirder than the strange monsters that landed upon their shores just one year ago. The Yaeli say that their gaze can steal the soul of any person dumb enough to get too close and they're vicious beings trying to take their children.
These rumors have reached the main land as well, mostly through the few Yaeli that have decided they would rather face the scary but similar earthling races than to have to find out what the terrifying monsters want with them and their land.
Is there any truth to these rumors or are the Yaelians seeing things?

"Is that so?" Bushi asked, his pink eyes widening a little as one of his customers told him about the new rumors that were swirling around. There were a lot of things that a man like him could learn listening to rumors but the current ones were different, strange, and had him wondering about them. What part of the rumors could be trusted? Rumors tended to stem from some sort of truth, and it was that truth that he would need to discover, and from there he could figure out what to do about it. If there was something going on in Yael he would have a choice to make.
Did he want to avoid getting too close to Yael to avoid the Extremists and 'monsters' or did he want to get closer so that he could sell supplies to those who may need them as they chose to move away from the dangers Yael might present? Going back was tempting, but at the same time it felt as though it wouldn't be worth it. To get close enough to Yael to be able to profit from the rumors would mean that he would need to back track across grounds that he'd covered recently. On top of that he'd need to pass through Oba, a place where some soldiers might still be looking for him. After more time passed they'd find better things to do then chase after Bushi when he wasn't really a real threat himself. Bushi was a fence, a middle man, he didn't commit the various thefts that loaded his bags with various goods.
"So you were saying that the 'monsters' had supernatural powers?" Bushi asked as he went through one of the many bags that hung off of Aatos, looking for the goods that his customer was looking for. He needed a new water skin or two after the one he'd been carrying split down the side. There was nothing in the world more important then water while traveling, which meant that having a lot of extra water skins on hand meant guaranteed coin.
Giving a little shiver the Leaf Tribesman said, "From what I gather they steal souls from anyone who is foolish enough or unfortunate enough to cross paths with them!" He shook his head, disliking the thought of it, and what came next his tone said was even worse, "There is also a rumor about them taking the children of the glowing eyed tribe from Yael. If they are taking children then surely they must be taking the souls of those children for some nefarious purposes!"
"Sounds awful." Bushi said, his mind whirling. So there were 'monsters' stealing the souls of children? He doubted that it was something as dark as that, it was more likely that someone out there, someone very sketchy, was stealing the children of the tribe of Yael. Unlike the Matori who had the North backing them up, to the point that Oba had to redo all their laws covering the slaves in Oba. This might be some enterprising Obans trying to find another way to go about finding slaves, a way that wouldn't cause the Matori to kick up a fuss. He wasn't in the business of buying and selling people, it was too much work from what he gathered. Not something that he wanted to be a part of. Still, there were those who might be in that business.
"No part of the children has been found them after 'monsters' have taken then I would assume?" He couldn't help but to wonder if they were turning up elsewhere, taken away from their homes and given over to someone else. He really doubted that it was any sort of inky black monsters but surely someone was behind it all.
The man shook his head, "Nothing as far as I've been told. The monsters probably carry them off to their lairs to eat them... though here's to hoping that they aren't still alive when... well..." He didn't continue, not wanting to think about it any further. It was sad enough that the children were being taken without thinking of what happened after the monsters got them.
Bushi gave a slow nod, "I see." So they hadn't been found? Not even a bit of them? That made him wondering if his assumptions had been right, that they were stolen away and sold in some distant place. It was possible, but not something that he had heard about as of yet. He meant to keep his ears open though, to learn if that were the case. He didn't want to get in the way of someone else's business, but when it came to children the idea didn't sit well with him. He'd send the information anonymously to the soldiers of the area the kids were in. Until he got information like that thought he'd continue forward, business as usual.
