She often found herself spending time in the Library, not because she was afraid to venture forth into the rest of the Colony but because she liked to see what the scrolls hid from the rest of the world. Behind their dusty coverings was a whole lot of knowledge that she was just itching to get her paws on. Though, she wasn't really supposed to be unsupervised because some of the documents were very old. Weaver forbid she were to ruin one.

She was always careful though! At least that's what she told herself. Currently she was stacking some items to climb atop of so she could get a better view of what was on a higher shelf. How could this possibly go wrong? Pillows and boxes should be sturdy enough to hold her tiny frame right? She at least told herself this was all completely and undeniably justifiable and decided to go ahead and give it a go.

He wasn't sure what to expect in his explorations for the day. Usually he tended to stay closer to home, not wanting to upset his parents by wondering too far. However today, he was pushing his boundaries a little more. Not that he planned on doing some drastic or unspeakably dumb! Oh no. He just wanted to see what else there might be hidden around the colony. So, after spending the early morning with his parents, Khulai set out to pad along untrodden pathways, nose sniffing at the air and ears swiveling around as new sounds rang softly (or in some cases a little loudly) inside them.

Following his nose, the little tahtll caught a strange scent he’d never smelled before. It was old. And a little dusty. But there were so many other scents attached to it! Letting his nose lower to the ground, he followed the trail until his head popped into a strange structure. Pausing, he gaped at all the shelves holding the objects his nose was drawn to. Tail swishing in excitement, Khulai entered cautiously, careful of anyone who might trip over him. This place was wondrous! There were so many of the smelly objects. Curious, he weaved through section after section in a daze until his head bumped into something. A surprised noise escaped as he immediately uttered an apology.

“Oh my gracious, forgive me! Are you quite alright?” He asked with concern, staring at the nantil he’d just run into.

As she was attempting to stack a few more things she suddenly felt something bump into her, which in turn, caused her to bump into her stack of items and needless to say, it wasn't exactly THAT quiet. She turned around to see whom had bumped into her and her attempting to reach the top shelf and looked at the very colorful tahtll who was actually quite considerate.

"It's okay, I'm not hurt. Are you hurt?" She said looking at him for a moment. He was different from her siblings who weren't as brightly colored and marked like he was. "I'm Melani, what's your name?" She asked him as she proceeded to try and picke up thepile of pillows and books that she had tried to stack to look at the top shelf. The dust that was settling made her sneeze suddenly and she shook her head for a moment and then turned back to him. "What brings you to the Library?"
WC: 162

"Thank goodness you are not." He said with a sigh of relief. That was swiftly followed by the tahtll beginning to help gather pillows and the objects that smelled old. "I'm just fine. Thank you for asking." A friendly smile was tossed her way as he offered one of the smelly things to her. "Melani. It is a true pleasure to meet you! I am known as Khulai."

He was about to ask about the objects that flipped open to reveal flimsy portions when the nantil sneezed. "Weaver bless you!" Khulai threw out a paw to make sure she didn't accidentally hit her head or anything against the shelves. "The Library...?" He asked, a small frown forming. His tail moved lazily back and forth as he took this new word in. "That is what this structure is called?" He pointed to one of the smelly objects. "What are these? And why are they kept in this... Library?" He felt a little embarrassed for not knowing what these things were. But there was no shame in asking about them!

She was pleased to hear that he was unharmed as well. She would have been embarassed if he would have been hurt on her behalf. "Thank you for helping me pick these up." She said to him kindly as she stacked everything back the way it was. "It's very nice to meet you Khulai" And she found it very considerate that when she had sneezed he had made sure she didn't hit her head on anything. He was much nicer than her brothers.

"Yes, this is the Library. My parents are Librarians here." She said with a very happy smile. She looked at what he was pointing at some of the scrolls and journals. "Oh, those have writings about our histories and other things in them that we can read!" She said with a nod. "they're kept here so nothing bad happens to them." She glanced around to see if perhaps anyone had heard the ruckus that had happened moments ago and pleased it hadn't she looked back. "Where are you from? This is the one place i'm quite familiar with."

Khulai gave her a big grin, sitting on his haunches. "Oh, you're most welcome! I certainly couldn't have let you clean this all up alone. Not when it was my fault for knocking it all over." He gave a sheepish laugh at this. "I guess I've learned my lesson: keep my nose up!"

Ah, so he had a name for this structure! A Library. The word resonated inside his mind, finding its own little corner where knowledge was stored. The Weaver had not seen it fit for him to know about this piece of information, so he was quite eager to learn what he could! "Librarians? So... those that work in the Library are Librarians." He nodded to himself. Then blinked owlishly as she explained what the smelly thing was. Writings of their history? "So, like the stories and legends but kept on a physical object?" Wasn't that just amazing?! There was so much he could learn here! If he could understand what was written on the scrolls. "Are we allowed to look at them?" He asked curiously with a tilt of his head.

"Oh, myself? I'm from around the area. My family lives nearby and I was most curious about what all this was over here. So I came to explore." He gave a small apologetic look. "I'm afraid I'm not the best with directions, so I can't tell you exactly where I live from here." But it was close. Or at least he thought it was.
WC: 248

"I don't think many would have helped like you just did though. At least not my brothers." She said with a giggle. "And it wasn't all your fault, I was making a rather unsafe step up." She said with a giggle as she took a seat by him. "well, you don't always want to keep your nose up, you might trip on something!" She said thinking of how it would look to always be looking upwards.

She listened as he started to search his brain for things about where they were that she already knew, but he did not. This didn't bother her. There were many things in which she hadn't a clue as to what they were. "Yes, that is what they are." She said with an approving smile. "And yes! Stories and legends. They're written there by the scribes." She said with a nod. Though not everyone was talented enough to write on them, nor read them. "Oh yes! Would you like to look at one with me?" She asked him, eyes twinkling.

She cocked her head slightly when he said his family lived nearby. "Well, maybe you can show me when we leave here?" She said in a sort of a question. She was very much liking her new found friend. She hadn't met anyone outside of her family yet and she was quite enthralled by him.

Khulai almost had an offended look on his features. "Really?" He breathed in surprise. "But what if you stub your paw? Or your tail got squished?" A small frown began to form. "Would they still not help you?" That wasn't very gentlemanly of them! He'd been raised to take care of others. If someone needed help, he would most certainly offer a paw in assistance.

The tahtll eyed the 'step up' in question. And then he snickered a little. "I'll give you that... it was definitely not the safest idea." Then he was laughing, small wings fluttering in response. "Perhaps that is why I've found myself tripping so much!" He laughed more, curling his wings against his back once again.

He gave the scrolls a much more curious look. Scribes had written on them? "Is this where we got our legends and stories from in the first place?" They had to start from somewhere, right?! Maybe this was the beginning of them all! Or... well, that didn't make sense to him for some reason. Weaver help him, now he was confusing himself again. Khulai shook his head to clear it and focused back on his new friend. "I would certainly love to look at one with you, if it's not any trouble? I want to learn more about these writings!" It was something new and fascinating.

A bashful look suddenly spread across his features. "I would be happy to show you! I can at least tell you it's not too far from here. My wandering didn't take very long anyways... " He grinned cheesily at her before nudging one of the scrolls. "Is there a favorite of yours that you can tell me about? Oooh... what about a tour of this place too?" Was he asking too much now? He hoped not.

She was genuinely surprised by his mild offense about her commenting towards her brothers. She was sure if she had been hurt they would have helped, but it was tough love in that family, sometimes anyway. "Oh, I'm fairly certain they would have helped if I'd of been hurt." She said with a nod of her head. Though she was certain a before wouldn't be an option for them. Maybe it would? She wasn't actually sure.

She glanced back over towards her creation once more and after some more looking over she realized she hadn't exactly thought the whole idea through. BUT that was the price of learning. At least she hadn't been hurt, neither had her friend here. He was a friend right? She looked back over towards the colorful Tah and gave him a smile as he commented about tripping all the time. "Ummm.... I'm not sure the exact process, but there was someone a long time ago that experienced something BIG and then someone wrote it down eventually." She said thinking about it a little. She was still learning. She wasn't sure she was going to be a Librarian though. She had been born different from her family, a black sheep so to speak. She wanted to be an ambassador when she got older. So she could help gather things her parents could not for the library.

She glanced around the shelves to find a scroll he might like and returned her attention towards him as he asked if she had a favorite and then asked if he could have a tour. "I do have a few favorites, BUT...." She hushed her voice slightly. "Let's do a tour first! I know all the places." She said with a grin. "We can go see your place after." She said with a small nod and a happy grin.

He still didn't appear to happy by that answer, but at least he'd been here to help if something had happened! Khulai really did want to believe that her brothers would have done the same, but he was already learning that not everyone was as thoughtful as he tried to be. Something that confused him at his young age still.

But enough of that type of thinking - which never seemed to cease! He wanted to learn more. And maybe have some fun? That was okay to want, right? His ears perked up more as she mentioned favorites among the scrolls with writings about their history. Even better than that, she was willing to take him on a tour!

"Oh yes, please! I really do want to see what all is in a library!" His tail swished back and forth in excitement at the thought. "O-Oh. Sure! I can show you where my place is after. And maybe... you could show me how to find it on one of these?" He indicated one of the scrolls. He'd seen some before with drawings of what looked like the land, but he couldn't understand them.

"Where do we go first?" Khulai asked eagerly.

She was just as excited to show him around! She thought about his request and gave him a toothy grin. "Of course! I'd love to do that." As she made sure everything where they had just been was in a somewhat tidy order. She still wasn't the best with moving stuff with her telekinesis yet but one day she'd get it down. "I can show you the press room!" She turned towards him, her eyes bright with happiness.

"They actually do a lot of the mixing and stuff there for making the pages for the scrolls and manuscripts." She said recalling some of the lessons. "Would you like to go there first? It smells really nice in there too." She added as she motioned for him to follow her towards the back where they made everything. "We could probably even make some if you want? We'd have to wait to pick it up tomorrow once it's dry though."

Khulai watched intently as she made sure everything was back in order, assisting with the last couple items as only a gentleman was expected to do! His ears were forward and there was an equally excited bounce to his step as he followed after his new friend. It was so thrilling to learn new things! And he was pretty positive that his parents and brother would find it all just as interesting when he retold his adventures to them later.

"Thank you!" He said with genuine appreciation. It was so nice having someone take the time to show you things so you really understood them! "Ah, the press room?" Khulai tilted his head curiously. It sounded important. "What might the 'press room' be?" He asked.

Now he was really excited, giving Melani a toothy grin. "I'd be ever so delighted to try and make some! It's not very often that one such as myself has the opportunity presented to them." She really was a sweet friend! He was very happy to have come across her today. "Thank you, for all the time you are bestowing upon me." He added in, giving her another grin.

It's alright! Youre not the only one who has kinda let somet things get dusty <3

She was quite pleased with his help in putting the last of the things away and once that was done she gave a final look around. "I think everything is back in order."

She had no issues showing him around the place that would likely one day be her calling and it made her proud to know where everything was. "I would love to show you how to make some then." She said excitedly as she led the way.

"It's right this way." they took a couple of turns and then came into a large room with some flowers and other items and some interesting looking machines. "We just need to select some stuff from there couple of bins." She said waving a paw at them.

"And you're most welcome, thank you for allowing me to." She said blushing a little.

He gave everything a looking over himself, feeling that he agreed. Not that he knew were everything had belonged in the first place! But it looked tidy and Melani approved. Khulai gave her a dip of his head. "You are most welcome!" He replied.

The young tah felt his wings flutter in his glee at the fact she was happy to show him how to make the precious stuff that held wonderous tales in those carefully laid out lines. Letters and words, they were called. He happily trailed behind, looking around at everything they passed. And the smells! They were all over and he couldn't even begin to name all of them.

"This room smells quite nice." Khulai commented, giving Melani his attention. "Just select anything?" He inquired, looking towards the bins she indicated. Maybe he'd pick the items he felt smelled the sweetest? Or softest. Hmmm. He waited long enough for Melani to proceed him into the room before he was exploring the whole of it, careful not to get in anyones way. By the time he made it to the bins, he was even more excited - if possible! - to begin.

"Right, so how much do we pick? I rather like the smell of these flowers here," he indicated a delicate light pink blossom in one bin. "And the colors of... is that fabric?" He asked in surprise.

She was so happy to finally have someone besides her brother to share this with! He was great company and all but still, this was far more exciting than being with her siblings.

She loved that he was just so curious about it all and such nice manners too!

"I love coming here just because it smells so good." She said with a wide grin as they entered and she settled herself in front of him and waved her paw. "Yup! Just select a few things from each of those containers and collect it in that basket." She said motioning towards the carrier. "Then you'll take it over to this table where we can mash it all up." She said gleefully.

"You can take anything you want. So feel free to let your artistic curiosities fly!" There was so much excitement coursing through her right now.

"And yup! That sure is." She beamed glad to hear that he knew what most of the stuff already was. Some didn't know and had to ask.

He certainly couldn't disagree about the smell! There were so many different scents, but each one was pleasant in its own way and it made for a surprisingly strong yet relaxing aroma. Khulai was fairly confident that he could learn to love this place.

The young tah followed the motions of her paws, indicating which containers and baskets and carriers. There was so much to choose from! "I... just select a few items?" He bobbed his head, sniffing curiously at the different items presented. Using his innate telepathic abilities, a strand of lavender was lifted out of one container. Moving to another one, a leaf of mint (he was rather surprised that he knew what the plant was called!). In another, some pale green paper.

Pausing, Khulai looked over to Melani. "Really? You can put fabric in the paper?" He confirmed, eyes widening. Well, since she'd been gracious enough to tell him he could take whatever he wanted for this, he picked up a tiny piece of fabric too.

"Is this... alright?" He asked, finally, allowing her to look over all his selections. He dearly hoped he wasn't been too greedy or that he'd picked too much!

sorry this took so long!

"YUP!" Exclaiming excitedly as he picked out a couple of things and gathered them all together. She inspected what he had briefly and gave a nod of her head, "Perfect! Just go ahead and place it in here so we can mash it." Collecting a few things herself she showed him what to do with the items she'd gathered and started to mash it all together into a nice paste that would be spread out nice and thin later to dry. "Just do it like this."
