Hi, I am aphex, and new to the guild. Following the examply laid out in the sticky, I am posting a gallery. Several paintings, I will try to keep the page stretching to a minimum. Most of these are actually inspired by Gaia, and how I see the world of Gaia on canvas. I hope you like them.

I like this one best. I like the way the colors are primary, and the use of implied line. Very neat, and clean looking. The forest in the background really allows the houses to "pop" off the page, and the pastels are very pretty too. I also picked this one as it allows me to quote it without streching the page. biggrin But I really do like this one the most.

Thank you! I am a sucker for hard lines and detail, which is a real bear with WC's...

aphexinflux Thank you! I am a sucker for hard lines and detail, which is a real bear with WC's... Yeah. With mine I draw the lines in light pencil, then use water color, then ink. That way I avoid smearing.

Great works, Aphex. Most of these look like they are in progress, but it's kinda hard to tell especially on the one with the boats. I see masking, sponging, wet/wet, wet/dry, drybrush, good mix of image making techniques.
I want to warn you about thing- framing.
I worked in a frame shop for a long time, it's a great thing to know being an artist. Watercolor is especially prone to light/moisture damage. Those mats that are on your pictures are acidic- I can tell from the dull core. The best thing to do is make sure your work is stacked like this:
acid-free foamcore, picture, acid-free mats, UV-protective glass. (all at custom frame shops and crafts stores)
When attaching mats, etc... DO NOT USE MASKING TAPE FOR STORAGE. Use only acid-free "artist tape". When storing W-col pics its a good idea to have a sheet of acid-free paper in between each one. It sounds excessive but I can tell you from experience it will save you a lot of heartache!
And beware... watercolor red pigment will fade the quickest- even in mild sunlight indoors.

thanks for the excellent suggestions Drakken. I am making some changes according to your advice 3nodding
I am working on some new pieces, one of which has totally consumed me. I am doing a crazy floral portrait with all types of tropical flowers in full bloom... the colors are madness, i cant wait to show ya.

Hey I like your work too! I'm kind of a purist about matting from a slightly different perspective although Drakken is totally correct about acid free mounting/matting techniques. I noticed that all your mats are colored. I always try to keep an inner white mat around watercolor as that seems best at bringing out the color choices you've made rather than detracting from them. By all means use colored matting if you're going to do double and triple mats but consider the effect of having a white mat on the insdie edge. PEACE
