Nervously, Sangmu hurried through the darkening forest. It had been light just moments before. Now, the darkness moved in like something grasping and hungry. She hadn't thought that twilight would come so soon, and certainly not so quickly.
Nervous, she looked around. Places that were familiar in the day were becoming alien in the night. She was a herd soquili by birth and by nature. She had never spent a night with no one around by herself and the thought of not being able to find her herd until morning filled her with dread. What if there were wolves in the woods? Or something worse? All the horror stories she'd heard as a foal were coming back to her now, the ones of the butterfly-winged demon and tigers with glowing eyes.
She shuddered. She took a deep breath, had second thoughts, then decided to go through with it.
"Hello?" she called, voice high-pitched and shrill with anxiety.
