Gwen was out for a walk, thinking about Anara and Sami. Gwen need to find other mutants to speak with, as many as she could, she could only have a handful of mutants for her research. She needed many many more to gain a clear picture of what she was looking at. Then some day Gwen would write her book about mutants and perhaps teach a class on mutants, to help others understand them better. The more Gwen thought about it the more she wanted to do to make life better for mutants. She didn't see a clear end to what she wanted to do, as she walked along the path. Gwen looked up at the twilight light of their world, was the answer in their genes or was the answer something magical?? Gwen didn't know but she intended to find out. If it was a magical curse or something, Gwen didn't see a reason to break it, she meant what she said. The mutants were different and special. Gwen liked Anara just the way she was, even with her kleptomania, though Gwen did wish Anara would accept presents from her, oh well. Lost in her thoughts Gwen continued walking..

A usual visit was given to his secret garden, that by now was flourishing beautifully in the cover of its hidden home. Without other plants to compete with, and constant care and attention from the junior, the flora were growing without restraint. The small pool that'd been dug nearby also aided in keeping the soil around them moist should warmth try to n** away their resources, or the chill try and freeze their roots. Not only that, but the darling salamanders that the mutated Geist cared for also would take refuge in the small, aquatic destination. It'd been created for them to begin with, after all.
With a goodbye to his green friends, Gaius pushed himself upright, and dusted his dirtied gloves onto his pants. With the salamanders tucked back into his pockets, and both his Cockatriel's perched on either shoulder, he stepped carefully out of the concealed enclosure. His bright on black eyes flickered about as he exited, making sure he wasn't seen, hands pocketing casually as he strolled on. Though on his way out, he did notice a wee one all by their lonesome. They hadn't seen where he'd just come from, right...? better to be safe than sorry...
So without a second thought, he strolled on over to the freshling, his usual laidback grin in place, "Keeping warm out here?" he asked the small tyke, probably not one to talk with only a scarf added to his normal wardrobe.

Gwen blinked at the strange question directed towards her, Gwen had never really noticed the cold. Her mind wandering on so many things. She looked up at the older student and blinked looking them over curiously trying to figure out if they were a hybrid or a mutant. "I suppose I am alright, I have never been very sensitive to the elements.." Gwen said softly "Forgive my bluntness but might I ask if you are a hybrid or a mutant?? I have started a study on mutants. I am trying to gather as much information as I can, so I can write a book about mutants when I enter university." Gwen said clearly with more seriousness than her young age might suggest. Just because her body might be about nine years old, didn't mean her mind was.

The returned question to him was one he was slightly surprised by. Gaius' mutant state had never been something of a topic ever brought up, and only recently did he discover that he even was different from the majority of others in the school. With his light grin intact, he turned a shoulder to show one of his petite wings dawned on his back, the extra limb twitching in a flapping motion, "Mutant. Thought I was a hybrid of a fallen for a long time, til just recently." he admitted with a smirk. A hand raised to point to one of his eyes, widening it a touch more to show the very skinny slit of his pupil, "Interesting, huh? Never thought it was anything special." he chuckled.
Crouching down to get at the freshling's level, he placed his chin in his palms, showing her all his attention, his familiars mimicking his demeanor as well, "So you're making a book, huh? That's pretty cool. Didn't think we were all that interesting." he mused, "are you a mutant?" head tilting, he tried to see if he could spot any obvious traits out of the ordinary.

Gwen nodded listening, and then said "I can't blame you for that, I wasn't sure if you were a fallen gesit hybrid or if you were a mutant. I have met a few mutants, my friend is a mutant but she is very shy. She is a geist mutant, and believes she is a freak. I am determined to prove she and the rest of the mutants are special and not freaks at all. I believe if I use science to prove this it will make her happier." Gwen blushed thinking about Anara "Sorry" she said embarrassed. "I am merely a litch, I am not a hybrid or mutant of any kind." She looked at Gaius "Your the first mutant I've met older than my age group, would you mind talking to me about your mutation, so I can take notes on you??" Gwen asked politly

His brows raised slightly as the little one explained her reasoning for the quest at hand, surprised by the information provided. "A freak, huh?" that was an odd thing to consider oneself. His head tilted side to side slowly in thought, as if trying to come up with a good reason for such an unnecessary title. Maybe some jealous kids called her that?
"That sounds really nice of you to do." he concluded with, "No one's a freak. That's just silly." he declared with a light smile. Shifting, he settled to sitting fully down, crossing his legs, the little salamanders peeking further out of his pockets. "You can ask me what ever you'd like. I'm Gaius, by the way. Not sure what I can really say that isn't already pretty obvious to see." wings giving a flap again, he reached to tweak one of them, "I'll help the best I can though."

Gwen nodded sadly "Yes she is lovely, she has long purple hair that moves just like the stuff on your arms and legs." Gwen said. She was uncertain what that stuff was on a geist anyway. "And she has lovely tri eyes, she is wonderful and clever, but she thinks herself a freak." Gwen frowned annoyed she had yet to figure out a way yet to prove to Anara that she was special. "Alright now then, are your wings merely for show or are you able to fly?? Are your wings your only mutation? Do you have any vision issues??" Gwen asked holding her pen ready to write down Gaius's answers.

He hadn't met many mutants, himself. But then again, he didn't know how common or rare they were... to be fair, he didn't dwell on it all that much, when it came to Nightmares. Animals and plants on the other hand....
As the questions began, he gave a light smirk, and stretched out his wings, "Nope, can't fly. Guess you could say they're useless, purpose wise." glancing over his shoulder at them again, his grin widened, "But they look pretty cool." on to the next question. He pointed at his eyes again, widening them for her, which also made the already sharp slits shrink even more as light shined on them further, "I guess my pupils aren't normal, too. Can't say I have vision problems, but I guess I wouldn't know what's considered 'normal sight'." he answered. Truth be told his sight was enhanced if anything, given the shape his pupils possessed.

Gwen nodded as she wrote down, everything Gaius said. "Alright, let me ask you more clearly then, is your vision very sharp or is it kinda blurry?? Are you color blind??" Gwen asked curiously, she was only eight, so it was unlikely she would discover the mysteries of mutants at her age, but she was going to try anyway. Gwen bit the end of her pen trying to think of other questions for Gaius as she wondered why nature would put on decorative wings, how annoying for the owner really?? Then again there were birds who couldn't not fly.

The enhanced question had him just continue grining, and give a light shrug, "Can't say I see blurry at all, but still wouldn't know if I can see sharper than normal." his head tipped a little in thought, "though I guess I could get some testing done to see about that.." his mind started to wander on the prospect, curious for the sake of curiosity! Distracted momentarily, he twitched his wings as he addressed the following inquiry, "I don't seem to be colourblind, nope." his bright eyes flickered around as if to test. Everything seemed normal in his eyes.

Gwen bounced excitedly as she questioned Gaius and wrote notes about what he told her. "Would you be willing to take an eye test for me so I can make note if you have sharper eyesight that normal??" She was excited to discover more about mutants. Gwen has a path and she was determined to follow it. "What is it like to be an older mutant?? Do other nightmares treat you differently?? Are you confident in your path on your favorite subject?? Do you think senior year will be easy for you or harder??" Gwen rambled in her excitement. She was pretty much bouncing as she tried to think of more questions.

The radiating hyped energy from the freshling was quite entertaining, making him chuckle softly from her little display. "Sure, I could do that." he obliged, with a small nod. Just basing off his assumptions, comparing his pupils to those in the animal world, it would be most logical that his eyesight was more enhanced... but he was a mutant, so anything was possible. Logic didn't always prevail.
The further questions made him look up to the sky, "Not that I know of. At least, everyone's always treated me like anyone else, I'd say." no one had really pointed out his differences, except for one little fellow mutant. But it'd just been more of a thought aloud than anything else. With a smirk, he looked back down to her, chin resting back in his palm, "Senior year will probably be harder, but not because of being a mutant." he mused.

Gwen smiled and then thought "I wonder if the nurses office in the academy might have an eye chart I could borrow to test your vision, or perhaps I could make my own chart and test your vision. Humm perhaps we could go back to my dorm to work?? Or we could meet somewhere else once I find or make an eye chart??" Gwen nodded listening and taking notes, "Perhaps you could talk to my friend sometime, tell her that mutants are just like everyone else though I still think mutants are very special. Maybe hearing it from an older student she would believe you quicker than me trying to tell her." Gwen said thinking perhaps the logic would hold or Anara would disappear and hide from the older student.

He gave the child a thoughtful expression, "Not a bad idea. I'm sure they'd have to have something like that hanging up." it was a pretty basic test, and possible to be used on the fly for various sight issues. Carefully hoisting himself up onto his feet, familiars adjusting to the new height, he gave a little nod, "Sure, where ever works for you, Gwen." he answered. He had no where important to be, and this was pretty interesting. As a man of science himself, he was always up for helping out a fellow observer.
With the topic back on the freshlings little friend, his expression softened, "Sure, I would like to talk to her." it was a shame to hear that there were other mutants getting such a hard time for something that really didn't warrant any sort of negative connotation.

Gwen smiled and then said "Humm I'm not sure if we can set it up today, I will be late for dinner and get in trouble with the caretakers if I stay too much longer." Gwen frowned she wanted to do this, but she had gotten in trouble with the caretakers before for not sleeping or eating. They would get really mad at her if she forgot to come eat her dinner again. "Can we set up a meeting for tomorrow, perhaps then I can find the eye chart after dinner??" She hoped he would say yes, other wise Gwen would just have to roll the dice and take the risk of getting in trouble. (Figured we should wrap this up xd )
