Her eyes were closed, there was no need to keep them open right now. Pointless even. She could feel the car sway and bump lightly as she tried to remember how long it had been that she had silently waited for the ride to be over. She hated being in vehicles. They frightened her and she much rather walk. At least she could control her destination. She could tell how far she had moved. Had it been an hour? No, much longer than that. It was hard to tell, but she decided that it had definitely been several hours in this car, and she was ready to break free as she wrung her hands nervously. Her stomach had been churning hard for the last 30 minutes now. The driver asked her how she was feeling. 'Stop asking us!' a voice in her head hissed sharply. "Mira is fine.." she answered softly. Mirabelle desperately wanted the car to stop moving already. The voice in her head already had enough a long time ago. It prodded her aggressively, demanding to be released, but Mira was much stronger. Her concentration to keep the voice in her mind at bay, though she had been comforted by it's conversation many times so she always allowed it to say what it wanted to her. She didn't mind.

Mirabelle pulls out her cellphone in hopes to distract herself. Now, which button was the speed dial for Professor Rhun. This one? She pressed down a few keys and pulled the phone to her ear. Nothing.
'Why did they give this to us? We can't see the damned thing anyway!' Mirabelle hummed lightly, trying to calm the voice. She pressed a few more buttons. Nothing. A few more buttons. Silence. The voice was prodding harder. Mirabelle remained calm, pressing a few more buttons as she finally heard ringing. Excellent. It rang and rang, then voicemail. 'SERIOUSLY?!' it was screaming now. "Shhhhh..." she hushed lightly. At least she knew what to press now. It rang again. "..come on..." Then she heard his voice. Yes, she had dialed the right person. A small victory in itself. "Hello Rhun, It's Mirabelle. She has been in this car for hours and she wants to get out. How long does it take to get there because Mira doesn't think she can take this anymore." She listened. "Rhun! Mira isn't playing around! It's not fair you could not just ride with her." She probably would be fine. As long as she could just hold out a little longer. "It has been so long... " she spoke softly. "Did Leukos and Melody arrive safely?" she was concerned, "Is Melody handling it okay?", they were almost like her siblings, they were her family. Family. "Has Mira's brother come back?" she asked, it had been so long that she could barely remember anything about her brother. Only that he existed. And that they had been close. "Have you been able to see anyone you used to know?" she wanted to be hopeful that they would all have some chance to reconnect with those they had all been separated from long ago. Maybe if he had seen anyone he knew, maybe she could too. Maybe.

He had, that was good. She didn't consider to think much harder on the answer he began to mention her text messages. "HOW DARE YOU!!!" she shrieked, puffing out her cheeks like a child. "Mira will have you know that she wasn't trying to send you anything! She was just given this phone and she does not know the buttons!! Ooooo, you are so going to get it when Mira arrives!! Good. BYE." she pressed hard on the buttons until it was silent. Taking in a deep breath she sighed. Rhun always pushed her buttons, trying to get her to 'lighten up'. She opened her eyes but was still met with nothing but darkness, her stomach starting in again.

"How much longer?" she asked, her voice twinged as her stomach churned harder. She was going to be sick, she knew it. The driver announced that they were pulling up. She didn't even care to call Rhun back, she was still flustered from what he said to her.

The car pulled up to the gate, coming to a gradual stop and Mirabelle didn't waste a second to exit the car as quickly as possible, almost stumbling as she finally set foot on solid ground.
'Finally.' She hadn't even waited for the driver to let her out as they tried to come to her aid, trying to grab her arm to stabilize her. "Don't touch us!" she blurted out sharply as they took their hands off of her in surprise. Her face softened, "Mira is fine. Really." Convincing. They removed her two bags and handed them to her. They asked her if she'd be alright getting around. "Mira is waiting for someone. It is alright, you may leave her here. Your service is greatly appreciated." She smiled and they left.

Nervousness was setting in as her eyes darted back and forth. Was she really at the academy? She could not see any auras at all. Not anything close to her anyway. She stood for a bit then picked up her two bags with one hand and began to slowly walk forward. She reached out a hand in front of her to stop herself from running into walls if they entered her path.

Since the closing of the school, Aiden had found herself lost in the world- temporarily without place - without purpose. She lost contact with everyone she'd ever known - everyone she'd ever cared about... But she'd built a life for herself, sort of. There wasn't much opportunity for Metas in the larger world, but her talents with glass had allowed her to make a meager living here and there, fixing parts or making art. But no place was ever truly home.

So when she'd heard about the sanctuary opening, her heart had soared -- a chance to return home. To go back to a place she could fit in and belong -- and maybe reconnect with people she'd lost contact with. After much saving and careful planning, she embarked on the journey back to the academy grounds -- even if it wasn't an academy anymore. The car she'd hired to take her the rest of the way refused to get closer to the gates than half a mile - she'd have to walk the rest of the way.

So, after much walking and careful navigation, she finally arrived at the gates. She reached out to gently pry one side open, and then slid inside, mindful of her dress. She looked around once inside, noting that the grounds still needed some care... Were they even open? Had she come too soon? She took a few steps inside, headed towards the main building, and then froze.

This feeling.

Mirabelle.

She'd know this feeling anywhere - the familiar presence of her twin, the twin that had disappeared so many years ago and come back in terrible shape. The twin she had not divulged her status to. She felt an array of emotions, knowing very well that Mira could feel them back if she paid attention but found herself unable to control them. Worry, nausea, joy, but overwhelmingly: dread. She couldn't do what she'd started to as a teenager and pretend she was still male. That wasn't an option anymore. She had a much higher voice now, and was so used to be referred to correctly she wouldn't be able to keep up the act...

Not to mention she didn't have the support system she used to. Oh, what to do... Steeling herself, she continued up the pathway to the main building, hands clenched into nervous fists at her sides while she walked.

Mirabelle was doing surprisingly well at making her way through the empty grounds, despite the fact she had no idea where she was anymore. She couldn't see anyone to help gauge where buildings were and it had been so long since she had been here that she had no bearings to go off of. She took a slow step forward, another, another. Then her foot caught something, as she stumbled slightly. 'Where is Rhun?! He's supposed to be here!' "Shhhh...." she hummed. "It's fine. Mira will call him."

She set down her bags beside herself and glided her hand down to the satchel she always carried even since she was a small child. Digging around, she found the cellphone she was given just before the trip had begun. What were the buttons again?
'He's left us!' it hissed in the back of her mind. The voice hardly phased her anymore, she had complete control. She pulled the phone up and the charm snagged on her satchel and slipped from her hand "Ah!" she squeaked as she heard it hit the ground, bounce, and slide away from her. Mira sighed, bending down to put her hands on the ground, moving them to feel for it.

Then it hit her, this feeling. Her blank eyes widened. She knew this feeling. "Aiden!" she gasped lightly. There was a time she had convinced herself that she had forgotten what it was like to feel her twin brother. The flood of emotions overcame her as her stomach sank. Was this... Dread? Why? Was that her feelings or his?

It had been so long that her connection to her long separated twin was hard to decipher. She could feel her hands shaking as she froze up. 'What does Mira do?' She had dreamed of this moment, but now that it was here, she didn't know what to do.

She jolted up from the floor and spun around, her head was spinning as she instinctively reached both arms outward. "Aiden!!!" she cried out, her eyes beginning to water. She started stepping forward slowly, not exactly able to see him just yet. She was scared, maybe he hated her. Maybe he was hurt. The possibilities ran through her mind as Satya stayed silent, watching intently.

She continued walking, until she heard a sound - someone tripping and falling. Oh... Oh no. She was close by. Aiden forced herself to continue onward, until finally she spotted her, blindly trying to reach out for someone - anyone to help her. Should she say something? Should she pretend to not be there-- no. That was never an option. Especially with Mirabelle calling her name out like that. She opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out. Tentatively she raised a hand to cradle her throat, forcing herself to calm down enough to speak. So what if it would be obvious?

If Mirabelle couldn't accept her as she was, then... she supposed she would have to move on. She'd lived away from her long enough to know she could do it.

"Mirabelle..." She spoke with a clear, high tone, definitely audible from where she was standing. "Mira, I'm here. Don't move, you'll hurt yourself." A sharp shooting pain lashed through her heart - oh, Mira was crying... Or going to cry. And was confused - and upset... She couldn't just leave her like that... Carefully she stepped forward, approaching her sister with care until she was within arm's reach.

"You've changed..." But, so had she..

Mirabelle could see an aura approaching her, whoever it was, they were nervous, upset probably. She desperately hoped it was Aiden. Why didn't they say anything? What if it was someone who wanted to hurt her? Or worse, hurt Aiden. It was getting closer, Mirabelle took a step closer as well.

She heard her own name. It wasn't a voice she recognized. Who was this person? How did they know who she was? They spoke to her again. I'm here. Maybe they didn't know that she could see their aura. She was blind, but with her abilities, she could at least see some things. They didn't understand. Her brother would understand. The figure kept getting closer, Mirabelle was get more scared by the second. She was quickly becoming frantic. She didn't want to listen to this person before her when her brother was somewhere out there.

'Don't.' the voice was shoving hard in her mind. Mirabelle wasn't focused on Satya as the Mane was starting to get defensive, getting antsy to come forth. To protect Mira.

She stumbled slightly as she took another step forward. "Aiden!" she called out again, but a little weaker. It was apparent that she had no grasp on what was happening. She was overwhelmed by the emotions she was feeling, what her twin was feeling. What they were feeling.

You've changed.

How would this person even know?
'How dare they talk to us like they know us!' the voice was angry, full of spite. Mirabelle reached her hand out a little further, grasping at the first thing it touched, a shoulder. "..aiden?.." she whispered. Her hand sliding upward to cup the person's face. It was round like her own. Mirabelle was trying to take it all in. "...brother?" she further questioned. Was this her twin? Things weren't exactly adding up as she couldn't put together the situation she was being presented with. Her eyes stared straight at Aiden, as though they could actually see her, but they were still hollow, blank, dead.

The panic she felt began to infect her- override her own feelings and become her own, but she still fought to push it aside. She knew what was happening here, even if Mirabelle didn't. "Yes, but no." She allowed Mira to touch her face, knowing it was one of the only ways she could figure out who was who. "It is me, Aiden, but... It's complicated, Mira..." She sighed, this was not how she wanted this to go. Ideally it would have been in a controlled environment, while Mira was calm... not... while she was scared out of her mind.

Sadness moved itself in, taking over the panic she was feeling from Mira, and it filled her up to the brim. She had no reason to believe that Mira would respond positively... or even believe that she really was who she said she was. "Please... let me explain...? Inside, where there's a place to sit." Hopefully she would accept the invitation to move indoors, if not... well... she supposed she'd have to accept telling her right then and there.

Yes, but no. This didn't settle Mira's uneasy mind one bit. In fact, it confused her even more. The girl that was so well known for being calm and collected was experiencing more emotions than she could possibly handle. Was this him or not? She did not understand. Then it came, confirmation. This was indeed her twin. But it was.. complicated? How?

She felt the wave the sadness wash over her them. Her brows upturned further, she could feel this was Aiden's sadness. No, maybe she was sad too. Something pushed forward in her mind, certain this thought was not just hers, This was not going as planned.

'Listen.' the voice in her mind commanded softly.

Her other hand moved to wipe away what tears had formed in her eyes, keeping her hand against the other person's face. She wasn't exactly sure if she should entirely trust this person, but just as she had no reason to believe them, she also had no reason not to.

She began to regain her discipline of her emotions. Even if this person turned out not to be her brother, as long as she could find out anything about Aiden, that would be good enough for her. This person wanted to explain, wanted to go inside. To seclude her. The thought raced quickly across her mind then stopped.

'Go. We are protected.' Satya assured her.

Mirabelle nodded slowly at Aiden, "Okay.." She had never been one to question Satya when she was onto something. The Mane within her had always protected her, so she didn't feel like she should beginning to fight it now. But if this wasn't Aiden, then who was this person? And where had her brother gone?

Mirabelle moved her hand away from Aiden's face, hovering, as though beckoning to lead her.

"Mira dropped her phone." she whispered lightly. The sadness, though a negative feeling, still helped calm her. If this was Aiden, she didn't want them to be sad.

She watched carefully as Mira calmed down, though she felt the surge of unease coarse through her -- she'd always been the more sensitive of the two of them. Whatever had changed her mind, Aiden was thankful. She didn't want to have to do this out here - not when others could arrive in the middle of their conversation. At least inside they'd have the benefit of hearing a door open.

"Thank you..." She managed a small smile, something Mira would likely feel with her hand still on her face. She reached up to take it gently, threading her slender fingers through Mirabelle's as she dropped their hands to their sides. "I see it." She nodded, mostly to herself, and then gently turned Mira around as she moved to pick the phone up.

After some careful inspection she discovered that it was not broken, and then turned to press it into Mira's other hand. "Here you go. The main building is not far, only a small walk. Would you like me to keep holding your hand?" She figured she might as well offer- as children they were always holding hands... But that was ages ago. A lifetime ago it seemed for Aiden, since she was an entirely different person then.

"I'm sorry for scaring you."

Mirabelle felt the person before her smile, this was good. They were gentle, a familiar and comforting feeling. She felt their fingers intertwine with hers, her heartbeat began to quicken a bit. It was become quite clear that this was her twin, the one she had lost contact with so long ago. The actions of this person was definitely something she remembered, if not only subconsciously. Following the slight pull of Aiden, she felt them lean, then return. After a moment, Mira felt the object press into her hand. She contemplated trying to call Rhun again, but decided not to, she was nervously eager to talk more with this person that claimed to be her brother. She listened to them talk, trying to pick apart their voice, trying to remember it for later, trying to compare it to a distant memory of her brother's voice. "Yes." she simply replied. Satya had been quiet, which didn't exactly bother her though she wished the Malice would at least say something else.

"It's okay. Mira isn't scare anymore." not the entire truth, but a good enough answer to relate to what she felt. It would be hard to pin point only one emotion at this point, and may be that way for a while longer. She was yearning for answers, questions whirling in her mind.

'Can you see anyone?'

'No.'

A good sign. She normally checked with Satya about what she could see. While Mira could see the spirits when they surfaced within Metas, Satya could see glimmers of them as they lay dormant. A good pair they made as they agreed not to separate for now, despite given the opportunity to do so a long time ago. They refused to separate, not until they could really do a lot of help for this world. To stop the pain.

"Mira is sorry to have worried you..." she spoke softly, not just referencing what had just occurred but hinting at the reference to the worry she had caused by constantly being swept away unexpectedly to the facility she had first stayed at when she was a child.

Aiden guided her carefully across the pathway up to the main building, listening carefully for anyone else that might be nearby. It seemed that she might be one of the first to return, then... She glanced back at Mirabelle, contemplating... How to do this..? How would she prove that she was who she said she was? It wasn't like she could mold her vocal chords...

"It's alright, Mira. I think I would be frightened as well." Would be. As if she wasn't. It was a low humming fear, in the back of her mind - but she'd long since grown used to shoving such emotions into the background. It was hard to live in a constant state of fear, and that was something she refused to do.

Once at the doors, she opened one up and then guided Mira inside before looking for a place to sit... It seemed the building had fared better than the lawn, at least. Aiden spotted a few chairs off to the side, and so lead Mira over to them, then positioned her in front of one of them. "It's okay to sit. There's a chair behind you." She settled herself into a chair across from her, only then did she let go of her hand.

"I'm sure... you've noticed that my voice is different..."

She easily complied as she followed along. It was quiet, but she seemed to want that, they seemed to want that. The person continued to speak to her calmly, though Mira was getting a better grasp of their emotions now that she had been calming down. This was, without a doubt, Aiden. She could tell as their emotions slowly began to sync slightly more in tune. It was a lot to take in, but she was beginning to understand them.

They went inside a building. What building was this? It might have been the main building but she was unsure. Aiden positioned her, asked her to sit. Mirabelle moved her free hand back to feel the air for where the chair was, as she stabilized her hand upon the chair behind her, only then could she safely sit down without fear of missing the chair even slightly.

Aiden had let go of her hand, the corners of her mouth downturned slightly as she wished they hadn't. Mira had liked to touch them, solidifying their existence in the absense of her sight.

Different voice. Yes, she had definitely noticed that. This person was the person she grew up with, but the voice didn't match, and the body was not the same despite the mannerisms being identical. "Mirabelle has noticed."

She thought for a moment. "What happened to Mira's brother?" she asked, then paused, having to remind herself of the prodding situation at hand. This was her brother. Her voice lowered lightly, "What happened to you.." she posed the revised question. She hoped for an answer that she could understand but she was already more than heavily confused. What did this person look like? Why was her brother's voice not.. his? She had so many questions but she decided to leave it at the one she already asked. They had time, they could approach them one by one. It would only be fair since she was sure Aiden had a lot of questions for her as well.

What happened to Mira's brother? The word stung, which Mira would probably pick up on, but it wasn't like she could stop it from happening... She sighed softly, collecting her thoughts... Where to start...where to start... Surely she must have known that he always felt some form of envy - or maybe admiration for her... Devotion that was believed to be unconditional.

"After you disappeared... the first time, I went through some... changes." She started off quietly, carefully, guarding her words behind a glass wall. She was shielding herself, prepared for the rejection she had always assumed that would come. Mira could probably feel this, too. "I learned some things, about myself, I mean... Edmund and the others - they agreed to act as if nothing had changed when you came back... I wasn't sure how you would... Accept the changes." This was not going as she'd wanted it too -- she shouldn't be placing blame on Mirabelle for her own insecurities but... it wasn't as if she was lying.

"I suppose it's just better to say it plainly... I'm a girl, Mirabelle. I've always felt this way I just didn't know how to put words to it before... But I wasn't sure you would accept me when you came back for that brief period of time, so I hid it. But, I've fully transitioned to my real self and I can no longer pretend to be someone I am not. I hope--..." She paused, feeling her throat constrict with the threat of tears - this was nerve wrecking. "I hope that... You can accept this and acknowledge me as your sister. My name is still the same, I will always be Aiden... I just... use different pronouns now." Hopefully this would be plain enough. Obvious enough. Concise and clear enough for her to understand... How much had she changed? How much had she matured...? Aiden wasn't sure - but she hoped she'd changed a great deal.

Mirabelle took in the words, trying to make sure she didn't miss a single one. Changes. This concept was foreign to her. She followed the explanation further. The last time she was at the academy, Aiden was already... different. Mirabelle felt a pain hit her as a familiar name was mentioned. Edmund. She came back to focus, they had pretended Aiden was the same. She felt heartbroken that they had essentially lied to her, thinking that she wouldn't understand. She felt like a fool. For a lack of a better word, blind to the situation.

'Mira would have accepted you.'

'We wouldn't have understood.' Satya shot forth bluntly.

Maybe that was true, but Mirabelle was reluctant to believe that. It didn't matter at this point, she didn't know back then and that's what brought them to this moment now.

"A girl?" she blurted out unexpectedly. She didn't mean to do that.

She took a moment to collect her thoughts, to even attempt at processing all this information. It had been well over 20 years that she had been apart from Aiden. She had longed for this moment, and she didn't want anything to stand in the way of that. "Mira will be honest, she doesn't exactly understand these concepts. But she will try her best to. Regardless, you are Mira's twin and she cares so much for you. If this makes you happy, makes you you, Mira is happy for you as well." she responded. She hoped that answer sufficed. She couldn't possibly expect Aiden to be something they were not. Mira would accept her, learn about her, understand her. In time.

After a moment, Mirabelle reached her hands out to Aiden. "Please.. let Mira see you. She wants to know." she requested, seeing if Aiden would allow her, touch her, let her see her.

She sat patiently, waiting... and then the heartbreak set in. Her own feelings amplified it - taking this as a sign of rejection or unwillingness to understand but... then she continued to speak past the initial knee jerk reaction to question what she'd just said. She wasn't really sure if she should allow herself to feel relieved yet - Mirabelle was going to make an effort to understand, but what if she didn't? What if she could never understand?

"That... makes me happy to hear, Mira." She spoke carefully, guarding her words still. "I will... do my best to help you understand how this works... But not right now. Right now I just want to settle for a little while. I've been on the move a long time." She sighed softly, and then eyed her hands for a moment before scooting forward on her seat.

"Alright Mira. What would you like me to do?"

Mirabelle could feel they shared negative feelings about the situation. It was clear that they both had concerns about the whole situation. Mirabelle wanted things to go right, but she also wanted to be honest with Aiden. She didn't deserve to be lied to. Mirabelle could tell that Aiden had her guard up, afraid of being hurt, afraid of rejection. Aiden offered to help Mira understand, that filled her with a bit of hope. Settle. That sounded like a good idea. She allowed herself to relax, it was just Aiden after all.

"Touch Mira. Show her how you look. Like they shared memories in the past. Do you remember how? Close your eyes, share your memories with Mira." she instructed, her hands still outstretched, beckoning.
