The school cafeteria was probably one of the most nerve-wrecking places for Eilwen to ever go. If she didn't have someone to sit and enjoy her meal with, she'd usually be in and out as fast as possible. Get food. Eat food. Put away tray. Leave. Simple as that. Even if she knew the other kids around her weren't staring, it didn't keep her from thinking that maybe they were. At least today Gaius had joined her and she'd also been distracted by her newest toy.
Her parents had thought it was time she had a phone of her own. Though, they probably expected her to keep in touch with them more often now. Seeing as they were the only contacts in her phone she had little option for other people to communicate with. It did have games on it however, some of them were more fun than others, and so despite having Gaius alongside her for dinner it was still proving to be a distraction.
"Aw man, I had a good one going to..." She sighed when her snake ran into itself and ended her game. It was a simple enough concept, but it was still horribly addicting. She looked up from her phone and noticed Gaius was starring at her. Or her phone? "Ah, sorry! I'll put it away. I didn't mean to ignore you!" Woops. She could see now that it might be too good a distraction...

The growing mutant had come to find that with his surge in puberty also came a strong need to eat more. Snacks became essential, usually pocketed one place or another, and stashed plentiful in his dorm room. But not only for himself, but the little troupe of familiars he'd started to gain, too! he'd taken up carrying quite a few with him at a time where ever he went, the smaller ones more easily transportable than some of the others. And having dinner with Eilwen, his additional company was included just as well!
His two salamanders had been in his pockets, and now peeked their little heads out to accept the bits of food he fed them from his plate, his flitterat perched on his shoulder also earning bites between his own and the salamanders. Taking the food gathering into his own...beak, the two-toned Cockatriel pecked away at Gaius' plate, contently chowing down on half of a roll. It was easy enough to say that the Geist was just as distracted as Eilwen was. Though the little sounds her phone made did have him intrigued, and watching the small screen as the little pixelated line inched around after tiny dots. Cool!
Which is probably why he was surprised when she uttered an apology, making him raise a brow ever so slightly. Shaking his head to show no hard feelings, he leaned to get a better look at the device, head tilting to see it from slightly differing angles. After a beat, he pursed his lips thoughtfully, "I should probably get one of those too, shouldn't I?" he inquired. He'd seen some of the others their age with them, and Eilwen seemed to like hers.

Eilwen's own little flitterrat was sitting on the shoulder opposite of Gaius. They always seemed to be there, just silently taking in the world around them. They weren't terrible active, but they were awfully attached to Eilwen and liked to hang onto her pretty much all of the time. In a way they always wanted attention, but they didn't really need constant pets of daunting on. They did hop down to steal a little bit of food from Eilwen's plate though, since she was so absorbed in that device she was holding!
Eilwen gave a little smile to Gaius' response. Of good, she hadn't offended him. That would have just been incredibly rude on her part. She was still a little upset she was letting her phone distract her from having a meaningful interaction with her friend. "Ah! That would be really cool if you had one! I think they come in handy for sure. You can keep up with your friends and there are a lot of games you can play as well!" She didn't really have all that many numbers saved to her phone herself. She wasn't exactly overflowing with popularity. Still, it would be fun to be in touch with Gaius through her phone! He was probably the closest friend she had at the Academy.
"If you'd like, I know where the store is in town. We can head that way after dinner? They had some cute cell phone charms, but I didn't buy any when I got my phone. So, I'd like to go back anyway." It would definitely be a lot of fun to go into town with a friend, that was certainly something she hadn't done yet. As a freshling she'd always gone out with a caretaker or her bother Vanna. She was old enough to go out on her own now though and she'd done her research on the phone she wanted from the Academy. So it was easy enough for her to pop into the store and get the one she'd wanted.

He'd seen Eilwen use this device a few times now on their numerous hang out occasions, always fascinated by her fingers flying so quickly over the screen, and the little sounds it would make in reply to her actions. Pulling in a bite of his food into his mouth, Gaius twitched his wings curiously with her encouragement, eyes raising up to hers. So even she thought he should get one too, huh? It did sound convenient and useful. Would make it much easier for them to find each other.
Pulling back to give her some space back, he grinned rather pleased, and gave a small nod, "That does sound like a good idea." he didn't use his allowance much for anything besides toys and things for his critters and gardens. And those didn't cost all that much, especially considering most of it could be found on the school grounds and in classes... and even handmade!
Tucking in another bite of food, he chewed contently, peeking at her from the corners of his eyes as the plan was set up, making his wings twitch gently behind him in a sign of excitement, his critters seeming to pick up on it too, the salamanders twitching their tiny fins, "Yeah, let's do that." he agreed, before fully turning his head to face her, "Charms..?" he asked, pupils dilating a little with interest. Leaning in too, his voice lowered just a touch, tinted with awe, "what are those?" there was so much to these cellphones, that normal phones didn't seem to have! games, something called 'apps', and... now these charms? seems like they could do anything!

Eilwen let out a gentle laugh, she didn't think there was anyone out there who didn't know a single thing about cell phones. It was also amusing to see Gaius getting into something so seriously that wasn't something to do with familiar care for a change. Though, she supposed a cell phone could certainly come in handy for that in some way as well. She finished off a bite of her food before answering him, now quite eager to finish up her meal and head on into town.
"Well you see this little like...space here in the corner of the phone case?" She pointed it out just a small space, big enough for a piece of string to pass though. "You can hang a charm there. They come in all sorts of designs and such, so they're not really easy to explain looks wise. But some of them are just, so cute!" She didn't want to say anything now, it was a little embarrassing, but it would be super adorable if they could get some matching cell phone charms!
She finally set her phone down, admittedly she shouldn't have been messing with it to begin with, and proceeded to finish up the food on her plate. Her little flitterrat helped her to finish up what was remaining and she sat back in her chair with a little sigh. "Alright, time to work off that meal with a little walk, sound good?"
