Ely huffed out a sigh, flopping down on the small patch of grass, relieved to have finally escaped the watchful eyes of his mothers. From what he knew, they'd never planned a litter together - it just sort of happened. Then, they'd never planned to actually raise the litter - it just sort of happened. And here they were, quite some time later, with a litter of full-grown adults and they still hovered like overprotective parents. When in reality, they weren't overprotective - they were much the opposite, encouraging terrible, malicious behavior towards any stranger unlucky enough to be padding through the area.
It was enough to drive Ely mad. His siblings didn't seem to mind. If they did, they did a great job of playing it off. Ely tried, he really did. But it just wasn't in him to be cruel to others for no reason. It wasn't in him to be cruel to others with reason, really - he was a kind and gentle soul. Should he feel faulted for that? Probably not. But that didn't stop him from feeling like a complete and utter failure for it.

 She was just out trying a flutter on her wings. She found it challenging to flutter or fly at all during the winter. The cold hurt her fragile pappillu wings if she was out in the elements for too long. Extreme windy conditions would often have her avoid flying at all. Moving too quickly especially in direction of the wind made it feel even worse. If there was a thing about her, she was a creature of comfort.
She was just passing through. She stopped to take a break in this field. As she sat there, she spied black and white patterns in between the blades of grass. As she sat there, she started to lean towards them and narrow her eyes. She had seen plenty of grass to be pretty sure there was something in the grass; cuz it just didn't ever turn black and white like that.
She took a few cautious scooting steps over to get a better look. Then, she saw a pelt of black attached to it. One black pelt that.... was that looking? Castdown? Bummed out?
She wondering how to broach this. Sometimes you just had to take some precautions. Never knew how ulaya might react with some being of dark and devious personalities. "Psst... Hey... psssttttt... you there... you ok?"

Ely clearly had not been paying very good attention to his surroundings - yet another one of his fallacies that one of his moms would be very likely to criticize at the moment. That was his initial thought when he heard the quiet 'pssssst' of a clearly effeminate voice. The second was, 'oh s**t, who's there?'
The Moto'undil jumped a bit, startled a few seconds too late. He turned his head, spying a pale, silvery creature attached to a rather large set of wings. The female's wide eyes were colored with concern as she inquired as to his state. Ely shook his head initially, attempting to gather himself and adjust to his newfound surroundings, until he realized that may be taken as an answer to her question. "N-no," he stammered out, glancing up at her. "I mean yes! No, yes, I'm fine." His eyes rolled at himself unintentionally, heaving out a quiet sigh. "I'm just... dandy, thank you for asking." Ely attempted to flash a quick smile, failing to convince even himself.

Her eyes widened all the more as she leaned forward cautiously when he gave a jump. She at first thought maybe that was a sign he was about to excited and enthusiastically greeted with a jump to something. After a moment and seeing the awkward movements, she pulled back. She rubbed a paw in her bangs slightly bashful.
"Oh... sorry... I'm sorry. Didn't mean to scare you there... Are you really sure you're all right though? Were you just really deep in thought? You kind of look like you just had a fight with your best friend maybe?"
The longer she watched his demeanor. She couldn't help but feel like there was something there. Something she just wasn't putting a finger on just what it was. Of course, she would know nothing about not being quite evil or malicious enough.
She still scooted a little closer; attempting to slide through the grass without walking but still moving just a tad closer. Her paw closest to him feeling the itch to maybe stroke it lightly around his shoulder.

At her final inquiry, Ely gave a self-depracating laugh. "Fortunately," he explained, "I don't have any friends to get in fights with. I've only got my family." The male rolled his eyes, staving off a deep sigh. "Family." Wasn't that supposed to mean something in regards to unconditional love and acceptance? And yet... And yet his family involved exactly none of that. Some family he had.
Ely glanced at the female, noticing her slow, inching movements. He quirked a brow, wondering what she was up to, but refusing to say anything. Honestly, he didn't mind the closeness. Ely was pretty sure she was already closer to him than his mothers would ever deign to get, so that was something. In an effort to exert kindness, he smiled softly at the female. "Did you need something?"

Her eyes went huge and round as saucers at his admission on the part of having no friends. She was starting to pop up and down as she had just the biggest urge ever to want to hug him. How sad and tragic! No friends~ Not like she had a plethora of friends to speak of for herself as well. One day she might though; who knew.
"Well... then I guess at least you have a family. There are lots of layas who might secretly feel in their heart that though they have many friends; they lack a family. Layas who'd love them no matter what. I don't really have a family myself."
Then, the smile given to her; she caught it. She reflected it in a brilliant flush of expressions from surprise to happy and finally to bashful. She smiled sheepishly feeling somewhat found out.
"This might sound weird but... I just... really NEED to like.. hug you... is that ok? Would you mind that? If you don't like it, I can stop right away."
Her tail started to twitch, and she pulled her paws up in front of her. As if holding her chest in a way that was preventing air from exploding out of it. That wasn't going to happen. It didn't really feel like that. Just... she had taken to this sort of gesture whenever she was feeling overcome with that itch to hug someone.
"I mean... I know some ulaya dislike being touched. I wouldn't want to make you feel bad like I was violating your personal space." Only that she really wanted to.. even if it was violating his personal space.

Ely sighed, feeling a twinge of guilt at her confession that she had no family. It made him feel as if he should be more grateful to have blood relatives around. But that was sort of silly, he realized. Just because they were blood related didn't automatically mean they loved him. "Family's not all it's cracked up to be, I promise. I could introduce you to my mothers, you'd understand..." he sighed once again, flopping his head down onto his paws, looking forlorn.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the mix of emotions play through the female's face. It was sort of funny, the way she was able to communicate so much - she had a very expressive face, he decided. Then, word vomit seemed to occur, and she started throwing words out, requesting to hug him. This raised his curiosity and brows. Ely turned toward her, rising into a sitting position. "I, uh... sure? If it'll make you feel better..." he trailed off, his eyes still sad, and shrugged.

Ness desperately wanted to be able to tell Ely something encouraging. Something uplifting. She wanted to bolster his spirit and be overwhelming positive. Yet, she floundered. His note about family resonated deep deep down. While she claimed to not have any family; she did once. She left them behind long ago. Truth was she had felt like an outcast in hers as well. She thought about that.
"Well, I felt quite estranged from my own parents. Who I am clashes with their ideals of how a female should be and or behave. Their disapproval had nearly crushed my spirit, so I left. I left that behind. I just know there has to be better ulaya out there. I'll find people who I can belong to one day. At least.. I hope... I refuse to relinquish that hope. It's my very life."
She tilted her ears in a sad sigh. Her eyes stared vaguely at her paws feeling guilty for not being able to have had a magical answer or miraculous cure all for him.
Her instinct returned to what she had wanted to do before. Just to hug him. What else was there when you couldn't fix or change something. There was comfort. She hoped a hug felt comforting to him as it did to herself. She did the almost imperceptible scooting over with subtle movement of her paws. Though it was probably impossible to miss the fact she seemed closer all the time. Then, she in almost a pounce action; she wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him an earnest hug. Holding it in place, a paw started to rub on the back of his neck.
"I am sorry you have to suffer like that."
