It was getting to be pretty close to Christmas.

Briar had gone out with the intention of heading over to the library, but had ended up getting put off by the amount of people out and about in town.

He hadn't felt like heading home and he hadn't brought his swim stuff which meant that going to the pool was kind of out too and so he had ended up making his way over to the park.

Whilst it was a little tooo cold to tree climb, it had been quiet in the park - probably as everyone seemed to be in town doing last minute Christmas stuff - but it had suited Briar just fine.

And then - since it had been a bit of time since the last time - he had figured that he might as well do some superhero stuff as Oort and make sure that there wasn't any monsters around.

The light had started to fade by the time that he finally decided that he should probably start heading home and started slowly meandering in said direction.

He was still powered up though, because even when he was meandering he was still faster as Oort than he was as Briar.

He was crossing across the mouth of an alley when he heard the noise, reddish eyes glancing downwards for a moment before he turned and started walking resolutely down it in order to investigate.

Because strange noises could mean monsters and dealing with monsters kind of fell under doing the whole superhero stuff.

Sorry for the very belated start Kyu, hope this works but as always let me know if I need to change anything. Also I'll have a tag done for our other one relatively soonish

Running was usually Evan's go-to, and he'd gotten a hell of a lot of practice in the past few months. Tonight, all he had wanted was a nice, simple walk home. Just some time to himself, all by himself, where he could get from Point A to Point B with no trouble.

The youma who came after him apparently had other ideas, though. Evan hadn't even known it was there until he felt a little extra weight tugging at his bag. In that split second, he had worried that his bag had split open. And then he thought it was a cat trying to climb into his bag.

…And then it fell down and writhed and he realized it was just another youma. Or a hideously deformed rat.

Either way, his blood ran cold and he let out a startled scream.

He'd never seen a youma so small, but with those claws—and those teeth? He wasn't going to stick around.

What it didn't have in size, it made up for in speed; before Evan had even rounded a corner it had latched onto his leg, just above his ankle.

It was probably at that point, as it was chewing through his skin, that Evan started making the most noise. Frantically he started trying to beat the thing with his bag, but it was resilient and squirmed, writhing around his leg. He had hit himself more than he'd hit the youma, but he didn't really know what else he could do to get it off of him.

The noises seemed to be getting louder and so Oort assumed that he was getting closer as he continued to head in the direction that he thought that they were coming from, whilst wishing that he had a stick because if it was really, really a monster - and he was thinking it very probably was - then the stick would come in handy.

He wasn't in the park though and so it wasn't as if sticks were in particularly big supply - at least not anything that would come in handy against the sort of monsters that he had found himself coming across...

But he had found a trash can lid and so Oort figured it was better than nothing.

The sound of a particularly loud sound had him tensing for a moment before he shifted paced from fast walk to a run - because that sound had totally sounded bad - like someone was yelling.

No - actually no that sounded more like a scream.

He tried to run faster, the trash can lid swinging as he did.

Just a little closer... He told himself Just a little.

Because it had totally sounded close.

By the time Oort showed up, Evan had partially thrown his bag off, but it was tangled over his arm. He saw the movement before it registered that it was a person, and when he realized it looked like a senshi—or—wait, no, was it? That was either a kid or a really, really short senshi or something.

…And he was stuck fighting a very, very small youma that was squealing and clamping its sharp little teeth at him, and he couldn’t stop it.

His face flushed with embarrassment and he hated how weak he was against something that was such a tiny threat.

"I—sorry, it's just a youma," he tried to explain, swinging his bag again to try and fling the thing off.

"It just won't get off!"

He sounded a bit desperate and almost had the bag off—except the youma was already climbing up the strap, still squealing as it came at him

It hadn't taken too much longer for Oort to catch up to the source of the scream, which had turned out to be a guy with black hair and red dyed tips who appeared to be fiddling with a bag.

Oort moved closer, his reddish eyes cautious as he tried to keep an eye out for whatever had caused the screaming because people generally didn't scream for no reason - well at least he didn't think they did.

He hadn't gotten very far when the other seemed to notice his presence and started to look kind of embarrassed, although Oort honestly wasn't too sure why.

Although he was more concerned about the other's mention of there being a monster about.

He was also somewhat curious about how the guy knew about the monsters, but making the monster do the dust thing kind of took priority and so Oort dutifully moved closer, holding the trash can lid at the ready as he did so.

Except..

Except he couldn't see any monsters around and he was doing his best to look.

Although he had kind of been expecting something big which is why it perhaps took a few moments and the guy's hasty explanation for it to sink in that there really was a monster - a tiny monster - and it was on the other's bag.

However once it had sunk in, Oort dropped the bin lid and stepped closer as he tried to make a grab the squealing thing from behind with the intention of attempting to toss the thing back and away from the guy if he was successful.

No need to apologise Kyu - I have been just as awful and I should hopefully manage to get our other open rp tagged relatively soonish

Evan's heart was pounding in his ears and he was desperate to just get away—and Oort was his knight in shining armor. The youma was so preoccupied with trying to scramble up Evan—trying to n** and bite and drain—that it barely even registered the senshi behind them.

When it did, it was too late, anyway. With another obnoxious yowl, it flailed in Oort's grip. It's head was too oddly shaped for it to bite the senshi, and though it pawed at the air desperately, it's claws were useless from this angle. Its tail whipped through the air, but it was going in all the wrong directions—and as soon as Oort had it, Evan scooted as far away from it as he could.

His eyes were wide and stricken with terror; he blurted, "C-Can you get rid of it? Y-you can make it do that dust thing where it goes away forever, right?"

In all likelihood, Evan probably could have thrown his bag at it and crushed it if it would just stay still—but he was petrified of that tiny little youma just as much as if it were a giant monster.

Oort had managed to grab the youma by a back foot, ignoring the small thing's yowls as it made flail movements in the air as he yanked it away from the mister as its tail lashed frantically too and fro.

He didn't hold onto the thing for too long however - pretty much just long enough to toss it away and back from the other, reddish eyes watching as the thing sailed through the air for a moment before he walked over to where he'd dropped the trash can lid.

He could hear the mister speaking as he bent down and picked up the lid, however Oort didn't immediately respond, instead opting to walk over in the direction where he had tossed the youma because he wanted to take care of the monster before it could cause any more trouble.

It didn't take him long to do so as he hadn't tossed it that and as he brought the back of the trash can crashing down towards it, Oort hoped that it would be heavy enough to do the trick and make it do the dust thing.

Evan seemed to still have goosebumps and wasn't quite certain the youma was taken care of; he seemed ready to run but there was some part of him, some noble part that wouldn't let him turn his back on a kid—or someone who had helped him. So, helpless even as he might have been, he remained, and as even as he gasped for breath, he watched as Oort brought the trashcan lid down onto the youma hard enough that it did poof into a cloud of dust.

The alleyway was silent, though his heart was pounding so loudly in his ears that it was just downright obnoxious.

After a few seconds of silence, he chanced, "It's…gone, right? You took care of it," he insisted. Evan had to swallow, hard; his throat was dry. "I—I don't know what I'd have done without you, thanks. I mean, usually the bigger ones I can at least see and try to do something about, but I couldn't get a hold of that one."

He was resting against the wall and closed his eyes for a second, still breathing heavily.

"…Thanks. I mean it. Y—you…"

He cracked one eye—and then faltered. "…You're pretty small for a superhero, though, aren't you?"

Evan was short himself, only a little over five feet himself, but this person just looked like a kid to him.

…Or maybe he wasn't getting enough oxygen and his vision was just bad, that was possible too. Certainly kids wouldn’t be fighting like that. That would have just been cruel.

The trash can lid had hit the youma with a clatter of finality with the force (and most likely also the weight) enough to cause the thing to poof into dust.

With the monster sorted out Oort turned his attention back to the man "Are you all right Mist.." he started with the intention of checking that the other was okay.

Well that had been the intention, however his voice had ended up trailing off awkwardly because he hadn't been expecting the other guy to choose that particular moment to start speaking.

"It's okay" he said after a few moments "And yes it's gone - it did the dust thing after I hit it..."

And then the rest of what the other was saying finally registered and his voice turned huffy "I'm not a little" because he wasn't a kid, adding "I'm thirteen" as he stressed the word thirteen.

Evan blinked and held up his hands apologetically. "I didn't mean to offend! I just—I'm used to my heroes being bigger than me," he said quickly. "I didn't mean to sound ungrateful, I just—I mean, I don't know, you're younger than me too! It makes me feel weird! And stupid, like—what? You're thirteen and you have all these really powerful space magic things? How?"

He didn't sound mean, just curious and desperate and…his head hurt, a little bit, and he was tired and still running through an adrenaline rush after the whole youma thing.

"I—I've talked to some of you before. I think. I'm friends with a senshi—and a knight. But I…I mean, you can fight?" he seemed incredulous—a little admirable, but incredibly worried. "Which—which is good and all, but you should be at home. It's dangerous. I mean, like."

Evan seemed frantic and was rubbing at his arm nervously. "Like, bad things can happen to kids at night. Well, I mean—to anyone, at night. Especially if you're a kid. Or small. You shouldn't be wandering around alone. Do you have magic that works on people? Or…or just youma?"

Oort gave the man a look that was in part cautious and in part curious because in general people didn't tend to believe about monsters and stuff - especially if they were adults - particularly if they were adults...

Well at least not from his experience they didn't.

But the other knew about the monsters and seemed to know about senshi and so he guessed saying a little wouldn't hurt "I met a talking star cat" he said at last "And she told me a few things - like about magic."

Which was true as far as it went - because Horatio had told him about magic and she had also told him that he was a superhero.

Oort listened as the mister continued talking, even though the other seemed awfully stuck on the whole 'stay at home thing' before adding "I can't stay at home" his reddish eyes serious as he added "I've got to keep an eye out for monsters."

Because whilst Horatio hadn't told him much and whilst he hadn't even been able to find her since that whole first night, she had mentioned the monsters and that he had to deal with them and it was something that Oort had taken very, very seriously.

Evan squirmed, looking like he wanted to say more; he kept opening his mouth and then promptly closing it. "I get it," he said, finally, though it seemed like his nerves were far from calmed. "The senshi I met all seemed hell bent—uhm, I mean. Determined. Uh—that is, determined to, uhm, stop all the youma and the…bad guys…"

His voice tapered and lost volume and he seemed to lose his thought; it took him a second of struggling to reel his words back together before he cleared his throat. "I just mean—I get that you have magic. It's just, you know—when I was a kid, like…"

He sucked in a breath and then lost his fizzle, blew it out and shrugged. "It's just dangerous. That stuff can mess you up for like, years. Or forever. Just—be safe, okay? I don't doubt your magic or anything. And I don't get a lot of what the whole senshi thing is about, but I get that you guys have a job, and if the cat thought you were supposed to have those powers, I mean—I'm sure you were supposed to, but just…don't forget that youma aren't the only bad things out there, okay? You gotta be safe. Don't trust people, and don't talk to strangers, and don't wander off with them. And don't ever forget that, no matter how nice someone might seem. Oh, but—I'm sorry if I offended you. I mean, I really am grateful you showed up. You did save me, so…"

Evan sighed and reached for his bag, tugging at a strap. "Guess you're better off than me, though, so you might be able to protect yourself without any problems. I don't know why I'm bothering trying to give you advice, you've probably got this whole thing figured out, huh? …People probably don't mess with you."

For a moment Oort gave the man a long look, although in the end he finally nodded the other's mention about the fact that youma weren't the only things out there.

"Yeah" a quick nod "There are the people with creepy holes too." He didn't elaborate.

Although it wasn't as if he could elaborate because whilst Oort had seen a few of the people with creepy holes, he had never got close enough to one to talk to them and truth be told he didn't really want to either because the holes were...

The holes really were creepy.

He looked back at the man "Being a superhero doesn't get me out of school" the words were said in the long suffering tone of someone who wasn't really a fan. Although to be fair his parents and family had no idea that he was a superhero because he wouldn't be much of a secret superhero if they did...

Oort suspected even if his parents had been in the know, that his mum would still expect him to go to school though - because his mum was like that.

Perhaps it was a mum thing?

A thought occurred to him "By the way Mister what's your name?"

Because Oort didn't actually know it.

I am sorry Kyu - this only took me forever to get too. I should hopefully get to our other open ones sooner though

Evan looked confused, like he was having a conversation in another language, when the kid asked for his name. "Oh," he sputtered. "I'm Evan. Sorry, I just. Guess I'm still a little messed up from that whole youma thing." He reached up both hands to scrub at his face and sighed heavily.

"I don't think I caught your name. I should probably figure that out if I'm going to thank you properly. You know, for saving my life and all. Honestly—" he glanced down at Oort. "I don't know how you do it. When I was your age…"

He faltered and looked a bit uncomfortable, but he'd started this conversation and he didn't want to just back out. A shadow crossed his face and he just seemed tired, like worrying as much as he had been was as exhausting as being chased by a youma. "…I found out that the world could get pretty dangerous. And when I found out, I didn't ever want to go outside again. I still have a hard time walking home at night. It just—it freaks me out. It makes me sick. How do you—knowing that there are monsters out there—how do you just suck it up and go out and fight them?"

"Oh I'm Oort" in answer to the other's query about his own name. He thought about it "Well technically it's Chibi Sailor Oort" he admitted "But that's kind of a mouthful so Oort's fine."

Actually technically it was actually Chibi Sailor Oort, Senshi of keys however that was even more of a mouthful than Chibi Sailor Oort.

Oort was a lot simpler.

"And it's nice to meet you Evan" he added, because it was nice to have a name, even if Evan did keep going on the whole kid thing.

"And as I said I've got to fight the monsters" because Horatio had pretty much told him that he did and because he was a superhero and that was what superheroes did...

And whilst Horatio had gone to wherever she had disappeared to, Oort wasn't about to give up on his superhero duty.

He looked at Evan his voice all serious as he said with all the confidence of his thirteen years of age "Sticks tend to work best for the monsters though."
