Reill stepped back into the city, huffing miserably and dragging his feet, Matori had been nice, he should have just stayed there and delt with all the staring he really wasn't as scary as he looked and he looked like that so he wouldn't have to fight too many people. Scare tactics of course scared them off that was the whole point, although he could pull his mask down in the more proper areas of town. Bandits, theives, ugh, it was enough to drive an honest Oban up the wall..or into Matori.

He stomped into the market gazing around for a likely food stall when his eyes landed on a familiar but at the same time nearly forgotten form. "Var?"

Much had been going on of late, keeping Varinia rather busy with her handmaiden duties. But today, while technically her day off, she found herself in Sulburi doing some shopping and picking up some things Naevius had asked of her. She didn't mind it, not in the slightest, especially since it didn't have to come out of her own pocket. It did make her worried, however, about thieves and such. It was for this reason that when someone called out her name she turned instantly. The voice had been slightly familiar, but anyone could have found out her name since she was the handmaiden to Princess Naevius after all. But the face was familiar, older but familiar. "Reill??" She said excitedly and her arms quickly found their way around his neck, giving him a nice big hug.

Reill scooped her up and span her in his arms delighted that it was in fact her. "I haven't seen you in ages! How have you been?" He set her down gently and whipped his face mask down so he could look at her and she him in return. Let her see the changes time had wrought. "I must say you look as fine as ever. "

He soaked her up for a bit, someone else he knew someone who wasn't family and who was well female, yes female was good, much nicer to look upon. He sighed contentedly. The stress from so many days just magically melted off him. How lucky had he been to catch her here in all of Oba by simple chance alone. "I just returned from Matori, a little late or early and I would have missed you altogether." He hugged her again. This woman had been there for the brothers where no one else had and her letters had been a saving grace more than once.

Varinia laughed easy while in Reill's presence. It had been some time, yes but it was almost like that time never existed. "I've been well! Working almost constantly but that's good. My employers are good people. You were in Matori??" Vari asked surprised. He had been to Matori! How interesting was that! "Well I'm glad you caught me." She nudged his shoulder softly yet with affection. "Walk with me!" Vari looped her arm through his. He had gained muscle and looked so much more mature. It was nice to see, much different from how he had been way back when. "How have you been?" She looked up at him, curiosity expressed in every muscle.

"Very good, very good, got Keelthy reinstated after crawling all over tendaji for a bit, got bored out of my tree working out of the palace, while my brother has gone galavanting without me, the gall of that boy. So then I went to Matori after a pack of perzi kicked my butt and now I'm off to go looking for some missing waterfolk." It was just so easy with Var to fit right back into his spot beside her like he had never left. "I find I lack purpose so I'm doing my best to find it. And helping to find lost relatives seems like an alright pass time don't you think?"

"I never did find your father though, so I guess I'm not all that good at it."

"I"m so happy for Elthy! And wow, traveling all the way to Oba by yourself. So finding missing waterfolk is a job you're on?" Vari leaned her head on his shoulder as they walked. "I know what you mean by lacking purpose, I've been wondering lately what I want to do or if I'll stay as Naevius' handmaiden. Its not a bad job but I'm not sure if I'd want to do it for my entire life, you know? Oh but please don't worry about my family. It was along shot anyway. We just weren't really ready to face it at the time. We've come to terms with it now. You should stop by before you leave! I'm sure they'd all love to see you." Just as I have, Varinia added in her mind. It just felt nice to be around him again. Maybe if she weren't working all the time she would travel with him. It might be possible to ask Naevius for some time off but still, Nae depended and trusted her more than any of the other handmaidens.

“Oh yes so much happy for him, I do resent the fact that he left me behind but he had to go out on his own to prove himself.” He sighed a little deflated and held her close as they walked, he was very used to constant companionship and didn’t want to admit how much the loss of that had left him cast adrift in the sea of sand. “Yes a waterling with a zanteer had lost some family that haven’t contacted him as of yet so I’ll be doing my best to inquire of Father to see if we can find them withing the knooks and crannies of Oba. I don’t know why they didn’t just go home.”
“You know if you ever want to travel and train all you have to do is ask and I will be there as soon as I can get there. Yes I’m sure being a hand maiden would be a little more interesting than palace guard but perhaps does not fulfill you enough? I thought I could follow father and become a guard full time but I just can’t stand the boredom, and the thought of standing in that hallway for forty years makes me want to run as far and as fast from the place as I can.”
“Of course I will come for a visit, when would it be appropriate do you think?”

"Maybe Elthy thought you needed some time on your own to grow up a little." Varinia's voice was very serious as was the look on her face as she nodded slowly. The facade soon cracked and she was laughing however. "Thats very odd, I hope nothing has happened to them! I do appreciate the offer, I might take you up on that some day!"

She stopped at a fruit stand and picked up a few different kinds, being rather picky at the ones she chose, only choosing the best of the bunch. She paid the merchant, and then offered one of the fruits to Reillian. "I know what you mean. I'm not sure I could do this for my entire life even though I'm sure Naevius will have to have them for her whole life, being the princess and all." Vari chose one of the fruits for herself from her basket and nibbled on it as they walked. "Momma is home almost always I think and I'm sure they'd love it whenever you had the time. They wouldn't care when it was. And if you let me know when I'd try to meet you there as well." She smiled up at him, more at ease than she had been in awhile.

Reillan gave her a withering look, which slowly morphed into a smile as she too faltered. She was one of the few people he couldn't intimidate based on muscles and dress and he adored that about her, he could show his true self in play and not worry about sending her running for the hills.

With all dignity he accepted the proferred fruit. "Thank you."

"I think I saw a worm disapear into that one," he said with a mock innocent face, there was no worm but she had taken forever to pick out fruit and he couldn't resist poking at her a little. Grow up indeed.

"Well when is your next time off?"

Varinia made sure to give him a few good jabs in the side at his jests. "Oh no I'm so terrified, oh please save me big strong warrior man." She made as if she would faint, but of course she wasn't actually going to. He wanted drama she could definitely give him drama.

She cocked her head at his question as she thought, her lips puckered slightly. "I don't really ever ask for time off so that I can make sure the girls have what they want, but Naevius normally gives me whatever time off I ask for. So whenever is good for you." Her schedule was much more flexible than most, especially with the kind of job she had and the kind of pay she was receiving. "When are you planning on leaving the city?"

"I have to find what I can on those missing people then I'll be going back to Matori to pass off the news, I don't know how long that will take though since there are a lot of people to be alerted. So I think I have about two weeks."

Hopefully enough time to gather what information he could, "What about three days from now will that give your lady enough warning do you think? I wouldn't want to encumber you at all."

He would see his father tonight and pass on word so he could do some of his own visiting with Var who definitely needed some quality time. His mouth quirked just the slightest bit.

"I think she would be okay with that!" Varinia said happily as she finished her piece of fruit. They were nearing one of the ends of the market and Vari still had stuff she needed to get but it could wait until later. They walked away from the busy market down some of the quieter residential streets, well as quiet as any city in Oba could be.

"So tell me about your travels Reill!" She begged. Vari wanted to hear from him about the exotic lands he had visited as she was sure it would be completely different than reading it in one of his letters. "Lets see...you kind of told me about Juahar and a little about matori, tell me more! What are the people like? The land? The weather? Do they do anything weird?" A giggle escaped with that last one. She always felt a little childish around him.

"Well I think the Jauhar land is the most exotic. Everything glows from the critters to the trees to the people. They have so many trees in fact that you can make a living collecting the moss off them and leaving the tree completely alone. The downside is they eat alot of bugs but on the upside they have all kinds of fantastic fruits. The critters are a bit intimidating with big teeth on the Radaku but everything is pretty small." At least in comparison with a janarim. "I never did have the misfortune of meeting one of the crystal spiders for which I am most grateful."

"The weather is awful, you blink and it rains, you yawn and it rains, no matter how often you do the sundance that Keelthy and I made up IT RAINS."

"As for doing things wierd, the shifters sleep in trees and the Alks worship one. We are lucky to get a scrub bush out here never mind a whole tree."
PostPosted: Mon Feb 15, 2016 10:28 am

While listening intently, Vari nibbled on another piece of fruit. She hadn't really meant to but Reil just had her so enraptured with his story. Eating bugs?! Ew! SO it was a good thing they had lots of fruit! Oba itself had quite a bit of scary creatures which Vari expected each land to sort of have their own so that didn't surprise her much. But all that rain and trees? That was crazy! "I know in Tivrod since it's closest to Jauhar they do a lot of lumber work there. Maybe I'll have to travel there sometime to see just a little bit of the forest you're talking about! I can't imagine all that rain though...it must be nice! Yet again...if it's all the time do you get all shrively like dried fruit?" Thats what happens when you stay in the bath too long and it was the only thing Varinia could really think of to compare. "How could you worship a tree? Is it like...just a representation like how we have shrines here or they just worship the tree itself?" She cocked her head in trying to understand.

"No, thankfully you don't shrivel, its just cold and wet and dank, even in the heat of the rainforest." He shuddered in memory. "Everything you own is damp. It makes you want to wring out your clothes, I don't know how they do it. Then the sun comes out and you feel like dancing."

"I'm pretty sure they worship the tree itself, I've heard it is their mother both figuratively and literally. Apparently they come out of buds, and they are all female except for the hybrids which are occasionally male but I don't really..get how that works so I try not to think on it that much, some sort of strong magic I figure."
