Monsters?
With the recently discovered Yaeli, the land of Tendaji has been abuzz with talk and gossip about their new neighbors. They're odd, they're strange and skittish, their eyes glow - but that can't possibly be true most say - the word on the street is that they're starting to leave their island. Those that had met the Yaeli know that it's an odd thing to hear. They were terrified of the outsiders, why would they leave their safe villages...
Rumors are filling the toxic island where the Alkidikes extremists were banished along with the Matron. Rumors of monsters clawing their way out of the earth with oil black skin and glowing evil eyes that are even weirder than the strange monsters that landed upon their shores just one year ago. The Yaeli say that their gaze can steal the soul of any person dumb enough to get too close and they're vicious beings trying to take their children.
These rumors have reached the main land as well, mostly through the few Yaeli that have decided they would rather face the scary but similar earthling races than to have to find out what the terrifying monsters want with them and their land.
Is there any truth to these rumors or are the Yaelians seeing things?

She believed in monsters, why wouldn't she? The world have all sorts of crazy things running around it, it seemed seem unlikely that there would be monsters that could steal your soul in it as well. Really the people who didn't believe in them were just plain stupid and wanted to look on the bright side of things. They just wanted everything to be rose colored and nice. But that wasn't how the world worked. There were dangerous things out there, and things like monsters were more normal then most would assume it to be.
Eleina was currently having lessons with her mentor, though all she could think about was the rumors about the monsters of Yael, which was making it hard for her to concentrate on the spell she was trying to master. Could they really steal the souls of those who looked at them long enough? And what was with them trying to steal children? Did children have better souls? It didn't really make sense in her opinion. Wouldn't the soul of an older person who was wise and have experience taste better? Or maybe they liked the innocence that younger souls had? Or maybe the took the kids not to steal their souls but instead to eat them! She knew some people liked younger meat better then aged meat, so maybe they were like that? Who knew, it seemed even the Yaelians weren't really sure of this monster. They would rather run away then face it and find out about it. That was the cowards way out, or at least she thought so. It was better to face it head on and figure out what it was all about before it was able to hurt others.
Eleina was taken out of her train of thought by the sound of her master tapping his cane against the floor. As his face came into focus she realized that he was pretty angry with her. With an apologetic smile she decided that maybe he would know more about the rumors then she did, he was after all pretty much ancient and full of all kinds of knowledge. "I'm sorry Dejen, Master, but I was thinking about the rumors that have surfaced as of late. The ones about the monsters from Yael?"
Dejen shook his head and moved from where he was standing to go sit in one of his chairs in the corner. "Is that what you've been thinking about this whole time while I've been talking?" His expression was an angry one, but Eleina knew it was the fact that he worse most of the time and doubted that he was actually even mad at her. He was the kind of mentor that normally encouraged curiosity.
"Yes, I heard about them when I was on my way here."
"Oh yeah? What did you hear?"
"I heard that they're blacker than the darkest night and their skin shines like the water. I also heard that they steal the souls of those that get close to them, those who dare to look them in the eye. Oh and that they like to take children especially, though no one knows what they do with the children."
Dejen huffed, closing his eyes as if he was tried of looking at her. It was possible that he was just sleepy though, he was old. After a few seconds of silence he opened his eyes once again. "Eleina please stop listening to rumors, it isn't good for a mind as young as yours to be polluted with such poison." That wasn't the answer that Eleina was expecting. "Monsters that steal the souls of those unfortunate to be around them does not seem likely."
Eleina frowned, unhappy that her mentor was so closed off to the idea of these monsters. Then again while she thought his old age would be of help in this situation maybe it wasn't. Sometimes older people thought they had seen everything and knew everything, and she assumed this was the case with Dejen. How could one that preformed all sorts of magic not be able to believe in monsters that could steal souls? She didn't think it was really all that far fetched.
"Now. Are you ready to resume your lesson?"
Eleina nodded as she watched her master stand, decided that she would put the monsters out of him mind for now. Better to think more on them when she had someone else that believed in them to talk to her about them. Maybe her mother would understand better.
