 After the worst possible day he ever had in class, Malachi trudged through the door with a look of utter defeat on his face. As he dragged his feet along the way, he plopped down into his desk chair and placed Bloom's carrier on his desk. He had never felt such humiliation as he did today. He didn't blame the Skyfish one bit, and smiled to her as he opened the door of the cage to let her out. However, he did feel a sting of something he couldn't quite put his finger on as she went to frolic about the small indoor garden the Fallen had created that she loved to be in. Maybe it was a sting of anger at the situation... Yeah. The was probably it. With a sigh and a heavy heart, Malachi crossed his arms over his desk and rested his weary head on them as he tried not to cry.

 It had been quite the exciting day for Hailey as she nailed a good few of her elective classes today. Sure, taking more than she needed to could be a smidge confusing here and there, but the feeling of accomplishment that she had after today made her feel like she was floating on air!... Not that she'd confess that to anyone, except Malachi... Maybe. As she pushed through the door to their room, Hailey started off in a singsong tone "I'm home, Khai~ You would not believe the...." but then her eyes fell upon the Fallen at his desk, and she rushed over. "Hey... Hey! Are you okay!" because the last time he had been like this at his desk, he actually snapped at her. There was something going on and she wondered if she had asses to kick now. "If kids are messing with you again, I swear I'm going to..." but Malachi cut her off.

"No... it was nothing like that, Hailey. You're not going to kick anyones... errrmm... butts, okay?" He voice was breaking some as he had spoken. It had been clear at this point that he had been crying. With a quick motion, Malachi's hands swiped across his eyes as he tried to hide the obvious. He knew he honestly couldn't fool Hailey, but it couldn't hurt to at least try. "I just.. I failed my first assignment today. And..." One could see that as he started to open up, he was agitated. "I just don't get it. Not that I'm mad at her or anything... it wasn't her fault, but why did I have to be the only one to fail?!" His words had a heated tone to them. He was not a failure and this was not flying with him at all! "It's not my fault that my critter had the jitters! Is that enough to make me fail?!" He turned and face Hailey, eyes red and puffy with a distraught look on his face.

Hailey stood there, unable to do anything as she watched the poor boy just fall apart. She began to feel angry for him while his voice cracked and his hands did as much talking as his mouth. Wow... he, of all people, got a failing grade? That thought alone just about blew the Geist's mind. How could he get anything but a passing grade? He always strove for excellence. With a solemn expression on her face, Hailey came around behind the chair Malachi was in and wrapped her arms around him. Her face nestled against his as she rested her chin on his shoulder and sighed softly. "It's okay, Khai. It's okay." There were so many words flying through her head -- obscenities being the greater volume of them -- that were wanting to escape her mouth, but something like that wouldn't help Malachi feel better. All she could do was try to be calm and comforting right now. It didn't come easy, or natural for her at that, but he needed her to be this for him right now. She could do that for him at least.

Even though Malachi was angry, he never was able to express it very well. Hailey was the one who never had trouble expressing emotions and feelings, and he was hoping that she might lash out some at the unfairness of it all, and yet she was calm. So calm. She was always so full of surprises and baffled him at every turn. Sniffling, Malachi turned his head and hid his face against her neck. Even when everything went wrong for him, she always made everything feel right in his world again. He wasn't ready just yet to face the injustices of the world, so he stayed right where he was, eyes closed as he tried to make sense of it all and what went wrong.

As Hailey just continued to hold Malachi close, she squeaked and wriggled some when his face turned and she could feel his breath on her neck. "Gaaaah! Khai! That tickles!" Her feet pranced beneath her some as she tried not to pull away while keeping herself sane. She didn't want to leave him, but if there was one thing that got to her in the realm of touch? It was any sort of tickling feeling! She was as ticklish as anyone could possibly be!... and she just realized she gave something for Malachi to use against her!
Crap! Maybe she'd luck out with his mood being what it was, and he wouldn't really notice how she was reacting to it. Well, a girl could dream, right? Trying to worm her way out of giving this away completely -- if it wasn't already so -- she pulled back just a enough to not have that feeling right on her skin. "You wanna go get some ice cream or something like that?" Maybe she was thinking like a girl in the way that all girls seemed to feel better when chocolate was flowing through their system, but it was worth a shot!

The reaction Hailey had to the feeling of his breath on her neck brought a soft smile to his face and made him give an ever so slight laugh. Yup. If there was one person in this world that could make him smile after everything went wrong, it was her. He raised his arms, chuckling some as she jumped at the movement, and turned his chair to face toward her. The fallen tucked himself against her and nuzzled his head under her chin as his arms wrapped around his girlfriend. Of course it was then that he realized that he was now pretty much face to chest. There wasn't really much there -- what was there was pretty great, mind you -- but just the fact that his face ended up there made it turn beet red! Maybe if he didn't seem to make a big deal out of it... she wouldn't? Oh boy. That chance was insanely slim, but he could hope.

Oh boy... Hailey had tried terribly hard to keep from overreacting to the tickling feeling of his breath on her neck, but this? This took the cake on what she was so not ready for. "MALACHI!" she shouted out as he made himself quite at home down there by her chest. She was already terribly self-conscious about being pretty flat-chested, but at least there wasn't any attention to it on a normal basis! She quickly pulled back from him, which was surprisingly a difficult task! He actually had a good hold on her and she didn't realize it until then. Eyes narrowing and flashing that bright white as she glared at him, hands placed on her hips. "I can not believe you! You're terrible!" and her arms crossed over her chest while she glared at her possibly ex boyfriend!

Everything in Malachi's body tensed as Hailey shouted out his name. Oh snap... he was going to be in so much trouble! The moment she pulled away from him -- which both hurt his feelings and his arms... ouch -- he kind of hunched down, making himself feel quite small. It was like he was facing the Tower of Burning Hailey Hatred and he was this nothing in her presence! "Hailey! I'm so, so sorry! I t-totally didn't mean to do that... You.. you know I'd never d-do something like that to you!" Crap! Double crap! Right after those words came right out of his mouth, he knew they were going to get him in even more trouble!

"Oh?! Oh really? Is my flatness not good enough for you now, sir? Did your up close encounter make you decide that there was nothing worth doing anything to down there? WELL THEN!" And boy oh boy... she was NOT a geist to be trifled with right now. Her normally -- and surprisingly -- calm tendrils faded in and out as they began to whip around violently. Her eyes could have been burning red hot for as angry and hurt as she felt right now...
But... as angry as she was, she felt hurt even more that her own boyfriend said he'd never do anything like that on purpose. Was she not good enough? The sting of tears made her turn around quickly, everything calming down as she wrapped her arms around herself tightly. "Are they really that bad? You wouldn't want to do anything with me because of them?.. well.. the lack of..." Hailey sniffled and quickly swiped her finger under her nose before going back to that self-soothing gesture of holding her arms around herself tightly. Really, she knew that's not what he had meant, but she always struggled with not feeling good enough because nobody ever even seemed interested in adopting her. Not feeling good enough was a real struggle.

Malachi watched as her anger turned quickly into sadness. True, he'd seen her sad and upset before, but something about this time felt very different. The words she said, questions she asked... they were something he hadn't expected to hear when those words slipped from his mouth. Maybe a threat of her breaking up with him, or just more shouting because she was just loud in general, but he never expected to hear her think she wasn't good enough for him. Especially... in the way she was talking about. Gulp.
Getting up from his chair, Malachi took a couple very small steps toward her. He felt unsure and reached across himself to scratch under his sleeve. What could he say to help make her feel better about this? "Hai..." he said softly, taking another, slightly bigger step toward her. "You've always been just perfect to me, Hai. From the first time you came and sat by the quiet kid that nobody else would talk to and just began talking as if we'd known each other our whole lives up to that point... You've been my best friend. And somehow I'm lucky enough that you wanted to be my girlfriend..." Oh gods. Was he babbling? Sounding like some sort of parent? Was he making any sense at all? "I mean, geeze... You're easily one of the prettiest girls in our class. Errr.. the. The prettiest girl in our class. You're funny and fun. You care for others. You're really smart, too, even though you're not into "brainy things"." he said, making the quote en quote gesture. "You don't have to worry about anything with me, Hai. You're always gonna be good enough for me" he said, looking off to the side with his cheeks heating up.

Hailey knew she was overreacting to the situation, but this was the first time she felt like she wasn't good enough for Malachi. Not that she thought highly of herself. Not even close, but this situation was just really in a different zone that was way out of the comfortable one she was always in with him. She tensed some as she heard his footsteps bringing him closer to her, sniffling and trying to keep herself from looking back at him because she would just break down and cry if she did.
As he spoke to her, Hailey closed her eyes and listened, but still made sure to keep herself distant from him for right now. Oh gods... he was just the sweetest, most amazing guy. Why did he even want to be with her. After he fell silent, she sniffled and laughed just a little bit. "You forgot pushy, loud, obnoxious, and takes everything way over the edge when it's not really even close to it, Khai." Oh dang it. Tears stung at her eyes again and she quickly wiped them away. Slowly, Hailey turned her head just enough to peer back over her shoulder and look at him. "Nice save, by the way..." she added with a small laugh again. He had taken another step closer to her. She didn't shy away, but she was a bit apprehensive for a few moments before turning around to face him. Well, the feeling didn't quite go away completely, but she felt a bit better.

Malachi offered a small smile as she turned around to face him again, and inched just a wee bit closer to her once again. The way he had done so got a giggle from the still shying away geist across from him, so that made him feel a bit better about things. Today had not gone at all like he had planned on. Failing his class assignment, offending and hurting his girlfriend -- who he still expected to either slap him across the face or run away from him. He couldn't help giving a little laugh in delay from the things she had said about herself. "Even with those other things, Hai, you're still the perfect girl for me. I hope you know that. Who else am I going to find to drag me all over the world and drive me crazy?"
When she laughed at what he had said, he took the chance to step right in front of her. When she didn't try to back away, the fallen reached around her, wrapping his arms and wings about her, then resting his chin on top Hailey's head. "I know we're still kids an' all, but I love you, Hailey. You're the girl for me... even if you're a little flat-chested right now~" Yes, he was going to get himself in trouble for that, but he also knew it would make her laugh -- especially if she slapped him like he was expecting her to do now.

Even though she had been really on edge, it was such a big comfort to Hailey that she knew even when she was being crazy, her boyfriend wasn't going to run for the hills. Hell, he even knew how to make her laugh... even if it was over the fact that she could drive him nuts. It was totally true and she knew it! Snickering as she let herself get pulled into his hold, Hailey took in a deep breath and sighed it out as she rested her head on his shoulder. This was the best place in the world to be. It was warm, comforting, and good smelling. Very good smelling. She was totally glad he wasn't a slob for that very reason.
The words he continued to say to him were like sweet, sweet poetry! And wow... she just about melted as he told her he loved her. It was actually the first time he said that! She was all smiles and giddy school girl giggles over it, until he opened his stupid mouth again! "... Flat chested?! You really went there?! Oh my gods, Khai!" she yelled at him, slapping him upside the head for it. "You are such a jerk! AUGH!" but even in her anger, Hailey was laughing and grinning at him. He was being a playful jerk on purpose make her laugh, and it was actually working! "You totally owe me ice cream now! There's no way I'mma pay for it now, you jerk!" Snickering, she pulled back, slapping him on the arm again. "You are so taking me on an 'I'm such a jerk and I'm sorry for it!' date, now!" Winking with a mischievous grin, Hailey turned and walked to her bed, grabbing up her jacket. "C'mon pokey! I want chocolate!"

The short-live cuddlefest was nice while it lasted. Though he said what he said, fully expecting the retaliation that she gave. He couldn't help laughing as she yelled at him, but man did the smack hurt! That would teach him to try and make her laugh at her own expense! Grinning from ear to ear as she told him that he owed her a date now, Malachi crossed his arms over his chest, ready to pretend to protest. However!, that came to a stop real fast when she glared at him again with those crazy, flashing eyes of hers. "An apology date it is, m'lady!" He fussed with his sweater for a moment before getting his wings through and walked over to the geist in waiting. "Love you Hailey~" He held out his arm for her to take, kissing her forehead as she did so. "I'm sorry about everything... I really am." and as she leaned into him, Malachi smiled even more, opening the door so they could head out for ice cream.
