Moose: s**t. Limping her way through the pride was one very petite, very irritated Reaver. Her left foreleg had a gash that ram from paw to joint, and unfortunately in her latest trip to the roguelands, had become infected. At first she hadn't though much of it, since the bleeding had blessedly stopped. Though now she'd become light headed, and more than one in her band had asked if she was fevered. She couldn't return to the den, not like this, not with Nebesa and those brats there. All she wanted was to sleep, but this needed tending to before her sleep became permanent.
"Umeko?" Toril called out, nearing a familiar den. Her voice was lower than her usual commanding boom and noticeably tired. "Are you there?"
nessiaing: Umeko moved within her den. It still felt so strangely empty with all her cubs and Anika's all grown up. Anika would come by when she was in the pride but as of recently Umeko was always out in the rogue lands. Umeko often worried after her dear friend but Umeko knew better than try to stop her or discourage anyway.
When Umeko knew her name called out by a familar voice she was quick to come out and see Toril. Umeko had found memories of the determined female, although fairly small given her godly father Toril was the most determined and hard working cub out of all of Anika's girls.
"Toril" Umeko greated her with a nuzzle before taking a seat before her. Umeko saw Toril and her sisters as her own cubs as well. She had been the one to raise them after all.
Moose: A little smile played on the fierce lioness' face, and for once, she allowed herself to be coddled. Normally she would push off under the pretense that it was 'embarrassing', but always after the affection was over with. She loved her family just as much as any of her other siblings, after all. "Do you think you could look at this?" Even as Toril saw, the paw she had been holding up remained held upright. It was wrapped, but loosely. Even to her eyes it was swollen, and irritated. "I wasn't as lucky this time as I usually am. I was tracking some rogues that thought they could steal from us; let's see them try it now."
nessiaing: Umeko let out a sigh when she saw the white lions swollen paw. She touched it softly with her paw turning it over and unwrapping it. She clucked her tongue a few times before she turned and ducked back into her den. Umeko hated seeing her family hurt but she knew that Toril was just like her mother and no matter what Umeko said she would go back into the rogue lands and fight again. The only thing Umeko could do was healer her to the best of her abilities so she would be strong for her next fight.
She came backing out of her den dragging a pelt that was covered with all her healing bits and bobs. She turned back towards Toril "You aren't going to like this dear." She said softly.
Umeko could see that the bleeding had stopped in the wound but the blood had pooled under Toril's pelt instead. She took a deep breath before she lifted her paw and with just one nail extended sliced through her daughters skin. It hurt Umeko's heart to do this but she knew what was in had to come out or infection would set in.
Moose: "I don't like many things, mama," she murmured. She wasn't going to lose her leg to an infection, and looking at the wound that stretched the entire expanse of it made her realize just how close she was to just that. For the first time in a very long time she was scared. Scared of the possible loss...and scared of Umeko's claw.
She let out a yowl the instant the wound was reopened, and growled deep within her throat to keep from screaming again. No one could hear her like this. Still, that didn't mean it didn't hurt. And watching the putrid liquid coming out of her...it made her feel ill. "Gods, why does it stink?"

nessiaing: Umeko cringed as she heard her young daughter's scream. She was singing softly under her breath, trying to sooth the younger lioness. She worked quickly pushing on the leg trying to get all the liquid out that she could.
She herself was use to the smell of infection and hadn't noticed it too much until Toril asked. "It was infected my dear and badly at that. It is good that you came to me when you did." she said her voice was stern she was trying to drive the point home that going forward as soon as Toril got hurt she should come and see her Mama right away not wait till it was so bad.
"Once we get it all out I will be able to put some salve on it and wrap it. You however will not be able to return to the rogue lands right away." She said the last bit slowly she was trying to ensure that the younger lioness understood the seriousness, though Umeko was ready for a fight.
Moose: Whatever 'comfort' Umeko thought her singing was bringing just wasn't up to par. She was lucky to have been considered a mother to Toril. Otherwise, she might have been injured herself. "I haven't been home for that long." The Reaver growled out. Her fangs were pressed so tightly together that it made emitting sound difficult. "So you'll have to excuse me for..dawdling."
When was this supposed to end? Couldn't she just slap some salve on it and be done with this already?! Surely it was all out by now! But no, it still came...Damn stuff must have bred in there. Umeko's words caught her, though, and caused her to snap, "If I can walk, I'm going back. If you teach me how to keep it clean I can manage."
nessiaing: Umeko let out a low growl. She didn't often discipline any of the cubs in either litter but safety was something she would not back down on.
She gripped Torils leg tightly "If you leave this pride before I clear this leg wound I assure you you will loose the leg." she said. Her voice showed that she meant business her light go free attitude all but gone in this moment.
She kept working without saying anything for a few moment. Now moving to apply the salve to the wound. She was generous in the amount that she was putting on.
"If your mother were here even she would agree." Umeko added as she finished putting on the salve. She just needed to wrap the leg now.
Moose: "That's why I'm telling you to work quickly." She replied tersely. Toril knew the danger she was in, but she also knew that perseverance had saved her more times than caution. The salve seemed to calm the all consuming burning in her leg, though it still pained her. If anything the salve seemed to take away her adrenaline high, leaving her just as exhausted as before.
"I'm sure she would." She murmured bitterly. Toril shook her head, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't...I'm just tired is all." It didn't make up for the way she was treating her surrogate mother, but Toril had never been great at apologies.
nessiaing: Umeko clucked her tongue a few times as she finished and wrapped. "Go sleep my dear, but I expect to see you back here tomorrow. I will unwrap it and check to see how things are. We can go from there." Umeko knew Toril couldn't live a sedentary life she was too much like her mother in that way.
"Go now and tell that thrall of yours to send her cubs over to me, you do not need them around you tonight bothering you I want you to rest." Umeko said her voice still stern. Umeko would enjoy the company tonight her den being full of little ones lightened the aging lioness heart just a little.
"I will see you tomorrow." she said before leaning in and giving her daughter one quick kiss on the cheek.
Moose: She curled her lip, though this time she was noticeably less vocal with her sass. Toril knew when she was whipped, even if it took a while to get to that point. "Yes, mama." Nebesa wouldn't like that, not one bit, but Toril couldn't say she wouldn't be happy for a calm night's rest for once. Those little buggers were cute and all...but getting pounced in the middle of the night was never fun.
She nuzzled Umeko before rising and limping back off to her den. Even through all the fussing and fighting...she was still grateful to have Umeko in her life. It even brought her a smile as she walked, head clear for the first time in days.
