Monsters?
Prompt 1

Solo or RP Format
Can be used toward Solo or RP req

With the recently discovered Yaeli, the land of Tendaji has been abuzz with talk and gossip about their new neighbors. They're odd, they're strange and skittish, their eyes glow - but that can't possibly be true most say - the word on the street is that they're starting to leave their island. Those that had met the Yaeli know that it's an odd thing to hear. They were terrified of the outsiders, why would they leave their safe villages...

Rumors are filling the toxic island where the Alkidikes extremists were banished along with the Matron. Rumors of monsters clawing their way out of the earth with oil black skin and glowing evil eyes that are even weirder than the strange monsters that landed upon their shores just one year ago. The Yaeli say that their gaze can steal the soul of any person dumb enough to get too close and they're vicious beings trying to take their children.

These rumors have reached the main land as well, mostly through the few Yaeli that have decided they would rather face the scary but similar earthling races than to have to find out what the terrifying monsters want with them and their land.

Is there any truth to these rumors or are the Yaelians seeing things?

[Yaeli characters can respond to the event with their own opinions on the rumors.]

Phaedra Post 1

It had taken some time but the brunette had finally made it to the settlement of her choice. Of course she really could have stopped anywhere. Phaedra was picky about her shopping places though, especially when it came to cooking spices. Her little hobby on the side. Interestingly enough the leaf earthling had managed to make a sling of sorts to hold her trident at her back as one would a sword or bow. The height of it made things a bit awkward but by now she was used to the way it moved. Looking around she decided to head to the eastern side of the main streets and start there for her shopping experience.

However, it wouldn't go as smoothly as she hoped. A large group of people had stopped right in the middle of the street and were conversing among themselves in both hushed tones and some hysterical voices. Phaedra cringed at some of the more higher pitches. "What on earth..?" Her bright green eyes blinked a few times as she tried to listen in on what was being said. Some snippets of conversation reached her ears, long and pointed and twitching as they were, but Phae didn't seem to be able to piece it all together correctly. Or at least, she didn't think so. Black? Monsters? Glowing? "And I thought my dad was good at telling tall tales.." She said aloud as she crossed her arms over her chest. From the looks of things she wasn't going to be getting anywhere fast.

Vuka Post 1

Vukasin often went to the market, but less to buy than to people-watch. He didn't have many friends but he knew a fair amount about some of the shopkeepers and their regular customers. He had only been wandering when he saw a crowd gathering in the center of the road. My, that certainly was an odd place to stop, wasn't it? Something must be going on.

The young man casually diverted his route and kicked at a pebble as he came near. Something about the Yaeli, some sort of black-skinned monster. How strange. Of course he'd learned the hard way that some far-fetched stories lent a bit of themselves to reality, but how much? He had not seen any Yaeli folk since the battle had ended, but maybe they just weren't coming to Jauhar? Brows furrowed, he turned to the Leaf woman nearest him him with her enormous trident and smiled. He gestured to the crowd.

"I haven't seen any Yaeli. I imagine they're the people to ask. Have you?"

Phaedra Post 2

A voice that was more clear than the others startled her and she turned her head to look at who it was that spoke. What Phaedra discovered was that it was the same little shifter that she had encountered in the battle against the extremists. Had he recognized her? Not wanting to make a fool of herself if he didn't she shook her head in response to his question. "No, I've not seen any. I wasn't aware they left their island." Hadn't it been said that they didn't like the invasion? They avoided others?

If they were leaving then there must be something interesting on their islands. "So there is some kind of black creature on Yael?" Phae mused. "Maybe an alkidike lost their mind and rolled around in the mud." It was a joke, of sorts. She wasn't sure if the amazons could lose their minds. They all seemed so focused.

Vuka Post 2

"Me neither, except to come and stop the battle," the shifter admitted. Had she been there to see it, or had she been wounded? He felt bad that he didn't really know. He had, however, recognized her. He laughed slightly at the joke and shook his head. "Who knows? It must be bad to have them leaving, if it's true. I've heard of bug-people crawling out of the ground and attacking people even here in Jauhar, but it doesn't make people leave, and people leave Jauhar all the time." He heard something interesting and his eyes flickered toward the group, then back to Phaedra.

"Another race with glowing eyes...?" The Yaeli had been startling enough, but now their bogeymen glowed too? How horrifying!

Phaedra Post 3

A solemn nod came from her as she thought back to the battle. Had she been conscious enough to remember the end? Or had she even attended? Phae couldn't remember. Likely suffered a blow to the head. "To have a tribe of recluse leaving their own space.. it must be bad." Though she wasn't so sure about people that could crawl out of the earth. That seemed far fetched, unless it was a cave they were emerging from. "I've not heard of bug-people crawling out of the ground. So this is a first for me." Likely not the last since there were rumors coming from all directions about it now.

Ah, so that was what the glowing had been about. The eyes. "Could it be a sub tribe of Yaeli that they forgot about?" That should be easy enough since the whole of Tendaji had apparently forgotten about the Yaeli to begin with.

Vuka Post 3

"Worse than the rest of Tendaji..." the Shifter mused. So they were coming out of the ground. That didn't seem too far-fetched to him if there was some underground cave system. He'd have liked to see the island himself to investigate. "Ah, yes. A man from Ast was attacked by some in the woods. He says an Oban saved him. I can't say for sure if it was true." Big ants casting magic, he'd said. Crazy. Every land had its legends, though, didn't it?

"I don't know. They know about themselves, mustn't they? Either way, what are these things doing that's so bad? Are they killing people? Or are they legendarily bad? Avoidable simply for the stories, like." He wished he had a Yaeli to ask, actually. Having someone else for a sounding board was just as well for now, though.

Phaedra post 4

Worse than the rest of Tendaji? Was that truly plausible? "So we have them here and they are on Yael." What did that mean for them? Was that the next threat? Phaedra frowned a little as she let her attention go to the group that had gathered. They were doing the same that she and Vukasin were doing. Bouncing ideas and the like back and forth. Of course what they were proposing was more far-fetched than anything she'd heard. A demon race that marked the end of days? Really?

"If Yaeli are coming to the main land where are they?" Would they stay in Oba or Matori, so close to the waters that separated them from the boogyman they were trying to escape? "I don't think it's killing, if it were we'd hear about that first." Of that she was certain. Turning back toward the shifter she smiled. "Might have to make a trip just to sate my curiosity."

Vuka Post 4

"I don't know. How long has this been going on? How far could they have come?" Vuka asked, but he didn't expect a reply. He gave a surprised little pull-back at a particularly odd sentiment. "Somehow I doubt the world is ending and is starting with Yael."

He nodded then. "I'd have to bring some sort of protection, but I have half a mind to go there too!" Maybe Vallen would go with him. Vallen was more of the fighting sort. Of course a Leaf woman with an enormous trident would be useful too.

"Do you think it could be the extremists somehow? The Alkidikes. Whether they're staging it or just starting the rumors... I don't imagine they're very happy to be stuck down there."

Phaedra post 5

She gave a chuckle. "Some people like to exaggerate." Phaedra had been one of those people once. Plus, rumors usually gained momentum as they traveled. Embellishments added just to make a better story.

"Bring a lot of protection if you go. Who knows how well you'd be received.." Either by the Yaeli themselves or the Alkidikes that had been banished there. When he asked if if could have been them, the extremists, she had to pause for a moment. Then finally a nod. "I think it might be them. They wanted to take over all of Tendaji so why not try to scare the Yaeli away so they have have their own island?"

Vuka Post 5

"Oh, definitely," Vuka agreed with a little smile, then it fell somewhat. "Ah, that's true. I forget sometimes how much Alkidike can hate a Shifter or two, especially after losing a war." Maybe he'd wait until he'd found his calling, or at least a good adventuring party.

"I think it could be. I don't believe the extremists can go back to the original Alkidike isles, can they? Wouldn't that mean abandoning their religion, though? The whole... tree and the mystics and all that." He was interested in studying the other races, but sometimes it was safer done through books and word of mouth.

Phaedra post 6

Alkidikes could hate a lot of people. It wasn't limited to shifters. But Phae nodded her head in agreement either way. She let her arms drop to her sides as she turned to more fully face Vuka. "You have a point. I don't think they can return.." And if they couldn't return.. "I don't know much about their ah.. religion.. but I do know you see a bunch of Alks going to Chibale at least once a year." She was sure that had something to do with their beliefs. After all, it was around the same time as the earthling festivals.

"Maybe they really have gone mad.. without their tree and such."

Vuka Post 6

"Well that was what started it all, wasn't it? Their festival is around the same time as ours, and you get a bunch of extremists in one place..." At least that was the story he had gathered from the friendly Alkidike around Ast.

Someone in the group must have decided suddenly that they cared that they were in the way and the crowd was beginning to disperse, allowing easier flow down the road around the smaller crowds of like theories.

"Maybe. I don't know if we'll ever find out unless they come back and, frankly, I don't want to see another war like that in my life." He shook his head. He knew he was only young and Tendaji was full of strife, but a boy could hope.

Phaedra Post 7

With the crowd thinning she would be able to continue on her way and do some shopping. Still, she didn't make a move, seeing as she was conversing with someone. "That is how things got so heated." Well, that and the rumors about one of their mystics wanting to claim Sauti for whatever reason.

"I don't think anyone wants them to come back.." The grounds of Tendaji had seen a lot of bloodshed in the past years. It was amazing to her that plants didn't life off the stuff by now. "Hopefully there won't be another war. At least not in our lifetime." That was one really big hope though and she knew it. So long as someone somewhere had radical ideals there would be conflict.

Vuka Post 7

The shifter shook his head sadly. Violence wasn't good for the world, for its people. There was always someone looking for a fight it seemed, but he could do without seeing so much bloodshed in his time. Next time, though... maybe next time he'd be better-prepared.

"I hope not," Vuka said, and then offered a little smile, "I didn't mean to keep you from your business, I'm sorry. It was nice to see you again. You look well."
