Ellis's life had been going very well lately. There had been the Solstice celebration (his first), Amory was keeping her promise to treat him nicer (something he hadn't realized he preferred until it had happened), and he was learning so much at school he could barely keep it all in his brain.

Of course, the good times couldn't last.

The imp was by himself today, having been left to return home without the aid of his foster sister, and he was hopelessly lost. He had never been in the Arkham wing of the academy before, with its music and dance specific rooms, and it was all rather overwhelming. The arts were scary and chaotic, not contemplative and sedate like his more philosophical Eldritch. Ellis pulled his tail in as close to his body as he could, hoping to avoid a confrontation as he crept down the hall. Even so, he knew he was going to have to find help soon if he ever wanted to get out of here.

The first door he eventually tried opened into a classroom full of juniors, each seated in front of an easel. Some of them glanced his way as he apologized and backed away, but most were preoccupied with a bowl of brightly colored fruit, their brushes and charcoals adding to half finished work.

The second room was much quieter, though he did hear faint music coming from farther in. It looked to be some sort of dance studio, and although the lights were on, Ellis couldn't see anyone inside from his spot near the door. It would be a good place to regroup and figure out where to go from here.

It's perfect, thank you Smerds you're the best. <33

Quite content with his own ending of the year, having gained quite a few lovely little familiars to call his own from the festival, Lilan was in a more determined mood than the usual. Not many knew how focused and motivated the little brat could be, given his unwelcoming personality. Then again not many would know much about him because of that.

Today he was using that surge of productivity to practice what he loved, outside of the normal class times. It was the perfect opportune time given that most of the older kids were off in their given classes, leaving a few of the less used rooms open to his use. The little Litch took advantage of one of the dance rooms, walls lined with mirrors, and a few balance beams nailed alongside some. Dressed in his unitard and shoes, tiny small boombox playing the song that they'd been working with in class, he worked on a specific part that he'd not felt entirely graceful with.

Small arms outstretched on either side of him, he repeated the motions for the excerpt that was coming up, arms lifting, and lowering to the beat, legs reacting to follow suit as well. His knees would bend and his head would turn as he followed the motions he'd memorized intently from the teacher, focusing hard on making the movements smooth and legato. He had to be better than all the other kids in his class, he wanted to show he wasn't the same as them, he was better! Surely his teacher would realize that after he'd practiced so diligently!

With a few turns, he raised briefly onto his toes, sweeping his arms above his head, making a '0' shape, giving pause as the section he was focused on ended. Letting himself relax, he swept back his bangs, and turned back to return to the boombox.... only to freeze as he registered the other presence in the room.

Instantly his eyes snapped up and locked onto the foreign Freshling, staring intently at them, brows furrowing as his cheeks gave a throb of embarrassment. Letting his irritation take over, he gave a full on glare to the unwelcomed guest, crossing his arms over his little chest, "What are you doing here?" he demanded with a not too pleased tone of voice.

Ellis's eyes grew wide as he stepped fully into the room, the door falling shut behind him and pushing him forward another step. He might have guessed there would already be someone else here because of the music, but he had been too overwhelmed by the bustle in the hall to give much thought to it.

With nothing else to focus on, the imp finally caught sight of the other freshling across the room. The litch was dancing, his small form moving more gracefully than Ellis would have thought possible, considering his own toddling gait. He knew he shouldn't have been watching this private rehearsal, but Ellis still bristled when the other boy stopped and made his demand, his momentary desire to defend himself dissipating when he recalled he was the one who had been rude first.

"Sorry. I got lost and I had to get outta that hall. It's so noisy. But it was nice and quiet in here. And your dancing's very good." Ellis had been around Amory long enough to know that a simple compliment wasn't about to save him from a glare like that, but it didn't hurt to say such things when they were true. He probably should have backed out of the door at that point, but the prospect of returning to the hall was still more uncomfortable than the litch's disapproval.

"So... you're in Arkham? What's that like?"

Eyeing this unwanted guest up and down, critically judging them based fully on exterior appearance, Lilan's glare only sharpened further. So they weren't even from around here, as he suspected. And yet they came in here to snoop? The nerve! A hip popped lightly to the side to increase the emphasis of his displeased attitude.

But... he managed to lessen the furrow of his brow, and raised his chin a little more as his ego was fed from the compliment. Well.. at least this stranger could see skill when it was in front of them. Slowly starting to lessen his bristled state, Lilan walked over to a little pile of neatly folded clothes, and dug beneath the center of them to pull out a tiny flitterat, pulling it to his chest to stroke fondly. The creature blinked its eyes tiredly, but seemed content to keep resting in the freshling's hold.

"I guess you can stay, then. Just so long as you don't get in my way." he declared, as if he were the one who had the power to control who came and went in the room. Taking his time, he slowly waltzed closer to Ellis, further analyzing this new company, "It's nice." he stated plainly, as he neared just a few inches away from the inquisitive boy, giving him a final once over, "Probably better than those other ones, I'm sure." shameless he stated. "Which one are you apart of?"

The appearance of the other child's flitterat drew a genuine smile from Ellis rather than the slightly nervous, grasping ones he'd worn before now. Though he had a handful of his own pets at home, his father had never allowed him to bring any of them to class, and since that was where he had just been, his familiars were nowhere to be seen.

He straightened. "I'm in Eldritch! We study a bunch about why Nightmares an' things are the way they are so we don't have another war or plan a city wrong or anythin'. I think it's fun!" He looked down, tail sweeping the ground behind him. "It's prob'ly not something everybody'd like though. Like I know I could never dance. I'd fall down. A lot."

Coming to the realization that he should probably breathe and maybe even stop talking altogether, Ellis paused, eyes on the rat. "I'm Ellis. Um, it's nice to meet you guys!"

Tiny fingers stroked along the top of the flitterat's head, and down the sleek back, repeating the motion in a calm rhythm. The familiar was nice and comfortable, peeking over at Ellis, but not showing a great deal of interest beyond that. It was comfy and warm after all, no need to leave such an ideal spot.

As Ellis explained the house to which he was affiliated with, Lilan rose his brows in an unimpressed expression, even giving a small 'hmph' to solidify his disinterest. How boring that sounded. But when the topic returned to his own forte, he managed to lessen his displeased features, "To be able to dance you have to practice. A lot." he replied matter of factly. Giving a once over the other freshling, a bratty little grin curled on his lips, "But.. not everyone's meant for it." he tacked on with that delightful snootiness of his.

"I'm Lilan." deciding a returned introduction was in order, he had turned his head to feign more indifference towards the fellow freshling.... but peeking from the corner of his eye back at him, his lips pursed slightly, "I can show you some dance moves." it was decided. Reaching out, he took one of Ellis' hands, and guided him back to where the pile of clothes and boombox lay, pointing beside the neat pile, "You can sit there." bending, he tucked the little flitterat back into the fabric, who in turn poked their tiny head out to watch the going ons.

Ellis's ear twitched once as if he was using it to swat a fly. Had he heard correctly? Was Lilan going to teach him how to dance? He followed cautiously, positively brimming with excitement. Even though the litch was guiding him along quite voluntarily, his hospitality could sour at any second. The imp quickly took a seat where he was directed to, lacing his claws together in his lap.

"Thank you for showing me!" he finally said, bouncing a bit where he sat. He had no way to repay the other boy. It would be strange and probably unwelcome to give him a miniature lecture on philosophy, after all. But he could at least be a quiet, appreciative audience.

With Ellis settled, Lilan took his starting mark, arms extended as elegantly as a freshling could manage, his head held high. As the music began, he waited for the specific cue before he started his movements. Arms sweeping, and hips shifting, he twirled and stepped lightly on his toes. It wasn't all that impressive, but.... he was just a kid, after all. There was great determination in all his motions, though, which echoed in his expression. Clearly he took this seriously.

This went on for no more than three minutes, before he reached his finishing pose, tiny chest heaving as he tried to calmly catch his breath, only letting his lips part slightly to gather air easier. Glancing over to Ellis, he straightened, and placed his hands on his hips proudly, "That's how you do it." ...as if somehow just that showing would be what would teach the other boy how dancing was done.
