Before Christmas break, there were two types of teachers: the ones who gave up and brought cookies and hot chocolate and put in a movie, and the ones who assigned tests and big things for grades in case anyone got ideas about skipping school. Alexa's teachers seemed to be falling firmly into the second category this year. Her brother told her it was even worse in college, but that was easy for him to say. He was already done and playing video games in bed. After a full day of presentations that ended with her staring blankly at a math test for an hour and a half, she was exhausted. But the bell finally rang, and cheer practice was cancelled, at least, and she knew exactly how to make herself feel better.

She headed to the upstairs bathroom, the one that was out of the way and usually quiet, and once she made sure it was empty, she squeezed her eyes shut and thought of tall boots and skull bows and magic until she opened her eyes and saw Sylvite in the mirror looking back at her. She grinned. There wasn't too much time to just admire herself and the magic, though. After less than a minute, a vaguely familiar girl walked in and gave her a weird look, and she remembered that nobody could tell who she was, and also she didn't exactly look normal. She said hi, then walked out of the room, down the stairs and out the side door. It was a nice day, for December, and just being like this made her happy, so she decided to take the long way home. Maybe she'd even look through some more alleyways and see what she could find, since apparently the youma weren't going to bother her anymore. Something was tugging at the back of her mind, a presence, but she didn't think too much about it. She just started down the sidewalk.

Poppy thought she was doing alright in her classes -- but she wasn't the type of girl who naturally excelled at that sort of thing, though. She'd stay up late as she could and stress about it, wake up with the pen-ink echo of her handwriting on her cheeks: and god, that English test was probably going to kill her grade, wasn't it. She'd read the book, but grammar was never any fun...who cared about how you said things, anyway? It was stupid.

But school was out, school was out -- two weeks off! That was going to be the best feeling ever; two weeks free of stress, to kick back and relax. Maybe she could help Desdemona with something, as far as putting that team together went. But aside from that one brush with the Page (..and that had been her own fault, really, she had antagonized him...), skipping the bus by powering up and taking the rooftops home worked the best out of anything. Of course Poppy powered down a few blocks away from home, because jeez, someone tracking her to her house could be nasty: any Negas who wanted to know could ask, but Order? Gross.

There was nobody around in this bathroom, so she slipped the pen out of her backpack and whispered "Warhol Asteroid Power, Make-Up!" -- and glittered, twisted. Shone. The fuku reaffirmed itself onto Chrysocolla's skin, the weight of her hair a comfortable blanket; and her backpack had gone with the transformation, although she'd taken a hoodie out before that, and she slipped the hoodie (black, overlarge) on, zipping it up high enough to cover the hole in her chest. The name in her henshin phrase was always going to be a reminder of she hadn't started out here, of that she had so many comrades-in-arms on the wrong side; but...what could you do?

...and there was a Lieutenant maybe seventy feet away. That was - well. That was interesting! Lieutenants didn't hang around Meadowview, usually, so that left Chrysocolla with a few possible answers: either this was someone new, this was a Lieutenant who went to Meadowview, or this was someone who just shirked their duties and figured schoolkids were easy targets. A smile crept its way onto her face as she bundled her hair into the hood, leaving the room and honing in on the signature -- and yes, yes - a girl who couldn't be any older than Chrysocolla herself, and a "Hey, wait up...!" burst out of her throat before she could stop it, moving at a fast walk. "Sorry, but...um...I haven't seen you around before. Are you new? I'm Chrysocolla...normally I'm the only one who hangs out here."

When someone called out to her, Sylvite whipped around. Had someone recognized her? They weren't supposed to, but if they did it wasn't that big of a deal. She wasn't hiding anything. It wasn't one of her friends, though. It was a girl her age, wearing black instead of cream and orange. The hoodie threw her off for a second, as hoodies weren't generally very magical, but there were hints that the girl was like her. They were both wearing thigh high boots, for one thing. Those weren't normal. Those would be annoying to put on without magic, and there were matching gloves peeking out of her sleeves and most notably of all, that presence in her mind was stronger now. It felt cool and familiar and powerful, and if she thought about it, she could tell it was coming from the girl.

She waited for her to catch up. "Hi, Chrysocolla. That's a nice name. It's really pretty. Did I say it right? I'm Alexa- ah, wait. Sylvite. I'm Sylvite. Oops." She giggled lightheartedly, clearly not caring too much about her mistake. "I mean, I'm Alexa, too, but... y'know. These names are cool, but they're kinda complicated, too. I'll try to remember yours." Chrysocolla, she repeated in her mind, trying to attach it to the other girl's face. Luckily, she was decent with names.

"Anyway, I'm not new. I'm a sophomore, and I went to Knightside before I came here..." Wait. "Oh, did you mean," she lowered her voice, leaning slightly closer, "The Negaverse? Yeah, I'm new to that." She gave Chrysocolla's outfit another once-over. It was magical, definitely, but... what if she was one of those other magical people? Sylvite shouldn't have been talking to her, then. "You're, like... in the Negaverse, right?" she asked. She was smiling, but a bit of wariness was creeping into her gaze. If not... that was bad.

With a wave, Chrysocolla pulled down her hood, brushing seafoam bangs away to reveal a black starburst of a hole on her forehead -- and a startling amount of hair she'd bundled up into it. She pulled down the zipper on her hoodie, revealing a distinctly black bodice and a matching blackness on her chest. "Sorry, um, it's just...it's kind of cold out, and I don't like it when my arms get cold. It's nice to meet you, Lieutenant Sylvite." She giggled a little, cheeks pinking, clearly flustered by the interaction. "Try not to give your civilian name out, alright? Sometimes the older officers will get pissed at you...some of them have been around for years. I promise the mineral turns second-nature after a few weeks! How long have you been recruited?" Her eyes sparkled with delight, because oh man was this good. (At the same time, she was thinking...Alexa. Pink hair, curls; lilac eyes...yes, she could remember a girl like that, maybe. It didn't seem right, but that was what the glamour did. Outgoing, sweet: who knew? The Negaverse chose talented girls. Sweet, outgoing girls.)

"I'm part of the Negaverse, yes..you can, um, feel me in your head, right? My aura. I know it sounds like mumbo-jumbo, but...Order auras, though, they feel like someone bleaching your teeth, like you're biting down too hard on something sweet that's gone rotten. That's how they feel to me, at least." Chrysocolla gestured with her hands, fingers expressive where her voice was quiet. "Sorry if I'm asking way too much, but there's...not usually anyone close to my age. Everyone's pretty much been older than me, so...it's nice to meet someone else."

Chrysocolla was showing off holes in her body like they were some kind of sign, and Sylvite had absolutely no idea how to react. They didn't look normal, but neither did anything else she'd been exposed to recently. Was it another Negaverse thing? Did she have them, too, left over from when Umber had put his hand in her chest and she'd ended up like this? She glanced down, only learning that her jacket was buttoned to the throat. "Um..." she began, then realized realized she was staring, which wasn't very nice. Also, she still didn't have any idea what to say. "I like your hair!" It was true. She didn't think she'd ever seen anyone with such vibrant turquoise locks past their knees before, and it was beautiful. That she stared shamelessly at, with just a twinge of jealousy in her eyes. She wanted to touch it, to put it in waterfall braids and french ropes... but no, that wasn't what they were talking about.

"I've been in the Negaverse for a couple weeks, I guess, but I haven't really talked to many people or done anything... official. I'm supposed to get training soon, but I dunno when. I guess my General's busy." She shrugged. It wasn't something she was worried about. "Like, I didn't know about the... auras." She tried out the word, and, yeah, it seemed like a good description of those presences she'd been feeling. "I mean, I felt them, but didn't know it had a name, or that I was supposed to be paying attention, and I'm not really used to the fake name thing, obviously."

Her face went soft when Chrysocolla apologized. "No, no! I don't mind. It's really nice to meet you. I guess it would've been okay if the Negaverse was all super serious adults, but this is way better," she said, then paused, and considered. "I should apologize. I'm making this all about me, aren't I? Wow. Sorry! What about you? How long have you been in the Negaverse?"

"My hair's honestly really not that impressive," Chrysocolla demurred; "Ochre's is longer than he's tall, and I don't remember what her name is, but there's one of us with ridiculously long hair...it's not this long when I power down, anyways, it's a weird magic thing." She shrugged, zipping her jacket back up, giving a sympathetic glance to Sylvite and continuing to walk. "How much did your General tell you? I've been part of the Negaverse since early August or so, but I couldn't tell you the date. If you tell me what you know, I can try and fill in the gaps...and I think my sister would be okay with training you, if you asked! But, um --" another few steps, and she sat down on a bench, patting the space besides her -- "come on, sit...we can talk better like this." She looked up with a small, shy smile, trying to be Small and Unintrusive. But this was important business.

"Well, I don't have magic hair at all," said Sylvite. "Yours is perfect. It's really cool, but you don't have to worry about it dragging on the ground or anything." Although even hair of that length probably got stuck in stuff all the time. She remembered that she kept her hair short for a reason, and the twinge of jealousy faded. Anyway, if it only grew out when you were powered, it would ruin the curls she meticulously put in every morning. It was still lovely on Chrysocolla, though, and she still wanted to braid it.

When they reached the bench, she sat sideways to face the other girl, feet tucked under her body and one hand gripping the back rest. "He didn't tell me too much. It was... a weird situation. Um... I know I'm a soldier of the Negaverse. We're named after minerals. We're fighting the senshi and knights, who are... trying to take over the planet? Or something." She was pretty sure that was what he'd said, but now that she was actually thinking about it, it didn't sound right. "I'm a lieutenant, which means I'm in training. I'm stronger and faster than normal, and nobody can tell who I am, and I get like this just by thinking about it. I think he mentioned some other things I can do, but I don't really remember. I know he didn't go into detail on how." She pursed her lips, focusing. "Oh, yeah, and apparently, those monster things aren't going to try to eat me anymore." A few silent seconds passed. "And I know about auras from you, and I think that's all." She nodded expectantly.

"You wouldn't want magic hair. It's..it's honestly kind of a pain, really," Chrysocolla mumbled, absentmindedly pulling on one of her longer locks of hair. "Normally I bring a ponytail holder along so it's not just all there, but I forgot to do it today, so that's life." She smiled sheepishly, teeth barely showing.

"Oh...was it Umber? He actually brought me into the Negaverse, kind of, but we've never really talked...he's kind of imposing. He's really smart, but -- a little bit frightening." She gave an awkward little laugh before moving on. "But yes, we're soldiers of the Negaverse -- I know this sounds super silly, but basically the Senshi and Knights of the White Moon are reincarnated warriors from a thousand years ago...basically, they come from outer space, but they wiped out the rest of the galaxy's sentient life, so they're all reincarnating here. We're a military force that fights to protect Earth, although...I don't actually know why we're always named after minerals. It's kind of weird, but you know, naming convention is strange that way." As Chrysocolla continued to talk, her face became more animated, hands gesturing in the air.

"You're a Lieutenant, yes: there are four ranks. There's Lieutenants, Captains, Generals -- like Umber -- and General-Sovereigns, like Laurelite. You probably won't meet Laurelite, but she's really polite...! Your weapon will get better as you rank up, but I couldn't tell you how. You're stronger and faster than normal, and you could probably jump a story high or so. When you're powered up, nobody who knows you as a civilian will recognize you unless they see you transform...even though you look almost exactly the same, some magic keeps them from recognizing you." She took a deep breath, shoulders heaving. "Does that make any sense? I want to make sure you understand that before I go on to other stuff. I know it's kind of crazy, though!"

Sylvite saw her chance. "Oh, if it's getting in your way I can braid it. I mean, if you want. I know the trick so it'll stay in without a hair tie!" She grinned just a bit too widely for a moment... and then her mouth twisted into a frown, not because she was upset but because she was confused.

"You don't like Umber? Yeah, it was him. He was really nice, he even took me home afterwards, with magic, and he's kinda cute- but too old for me, I know, and my superior," she added quickly, with a rare pause and a barely audible sigh, "And he has a mysterious past! I guess he is kinda serious. He only wanted to talk about the Negaverse, but I don't think he's scary." Even as she said it, she thought of how he'd been that night, his eyes cold and his had dripping with dark energy, slowly advancing towards her across the alley, then hurting her without warning... but she pushed it out of her mind. Everything had been great after that! Chrysocolla was talking, anyway. She had to listen.

Some of it was repeat information, but it was easier to understand the second time around. She found herself nodding. "Okay, yeah, that makes sense. I mean, I don't know if the space thing is ever going to totally make sense, but I think I get the basics. They took over their planets, they're trying to take over here, it's bad. Um... what are the senshi, though? Like, specifically? I met a knight, once, but I don't think I've seen or even heard of something called a senshi before. Oh, and you said something about a weapon? I don't think I have a weapon. Is it not 'till I rank up?"

Chrysocolla looked delighted at Sylvite's offer, although the tinge of embarrassment still graced her features. "Oh, um -- I mean, if you want to! That'd be really nice..." She turned, fluffing her hair out and stretching her shoulders. (Having that much hair was a little heavy, even now; she couldn't picture what it had to be like for....say, Valeria, or Ochre. The poor things!)

"Umber's not cute," she returned, pouting as much as anyone could. "He's like, 29 or something...! That's twice my age! And his outfit's kind of silly, too...it wasn't so bad before, but now that he's a General...it's stupid-looking. He's just -- I know he wouldn't hurt us, as long as we're good, but...I don't know." Chrysocolla heaved a sigh, shoulders moving. "Something about him...unsettles me. His brother's kind of weird, too...kind of out of it. Something about the both of them is just...weird." He'd never been harsh to her. (But from what she knew, maybe he had been, once. Left her running scared.)

"The space thing is kind of silly, but I mean...if you think about it, isn't all of this? We're magical girls fighting the forces of evil, and they think they're doing the right thing, too. Um, as far as Senshi go: their auras feel kind of like Knights do, but -- they usually have outfits sort of like mine? A white bodice, bows, and they usually have tiaras. I'm a Senshi, too, unfortunately." Chrysocolla just looked annoyed at that. "Knights have weapons, and Senshi have magic -- their magic is over a specific 'thing' or something, I guess? Mine's over Moods, so my magic does weird things to people's emotions, but it's not very trustworthy." She tapped her fingers in a steady rhythm, biting her lip, looking for the other things she was absolutely sure she had to tell Sylvite -- helping out a new soldier was serious business, after all! "And, um, as far as weapons go...I don't really know, but...from what I've heard, you just kind of need to concentrate and 'reach out' for them sort of metaphorically? Lieutenants don't have very deadly weapons, but they should be there."

And then there was a pile of fluffy turquoise hair in Sylvite's lap, and it was as soft as it looked, and she was very happy. She began to work it into a simple french braid. If she'd had her box of hair stuff, she'd have tried something more interesting... but it was probably good that she didn't, because it would also end up getting ridiculous really fast.

"What? It's not like I want to date him or anything gross," she said defensively, "And everyone thinks the guy who plays Iron Man's really hot and he's like, fifty." She smirked rather than blushing. This wasn't even a full fledged puppy crush, but he was her mentor and cool and strong and... not ugly. Chrysocolla obviously didn't agree, which was fine, but there was an edge to her voice that made Sylvite blink. It was weird from a girl who had been all smiles so far... and it almost made her think about the bad stuff. "He told me he's not from around here, maybe that's why he's weird? I kinda have to like him, though, he gave me this." She couldn't exactly motion at her uniform, but she thought the point got across. "Even if he's not exactly... nice."

She listened to the information carefully, steadily working on the braid. Bows and tiaras. She could remember that. Chrysocolla wouldn't notice, but at the mention of senshi magic, her eyes lit up again. She was careful not to shake or rock or anything, but she was back in super excited mode. "You have magic? That's so cool! I wish I had magic. I mean, I do kinda and this is awesome, obviously, but like... spells and stuff and messing with people's minds would be way better. If I have weapons, though... let's see... can you hold this for a second?" She handed over the half finished braid, squeezed her eyes shut, clenched her fists and her jaw and pretty much everything, and she thought about it. She reached... and yeah, there was something there. Suddenly, she was holding something. She opened her eyes. They were lollipops, the fancy kind that she was pretty sure nobody ever actually bought because there was no way anyone could eat one, but she had always wanted one and now she was the proud owner of two. Her jaw dropped, and somehow, her eyes sparkled even more. "Woah! Free candy! These are great!" A moment of adoration passed before she remembered- weapons. She turned to Chrysocolla. "I'm supposed to fight with them, though?"

Chrysocolla shifted herself to make Sylvite's new task easier, hands playing with the zipper on her hoodie. (She was a little envious of Sylvite's outfit, actually; it'd probably be terrible in the summer, but for right now all that covered skin was probably a godsend! It was reasonable, she thought, to be a little jealous.) And if she'd been able to read the other girl's thoughts, she would have laughed at a box of hair stuff: it all vanished when she powered down, though.

"I sort of figured he wasn't from around here," she shrugged. "He has...a weird way of looking at things. And the guy who plays Iron Man isn't hot, he kind of looks like a grandfather! I don't want to think about my grandfather getting nasty, that's gross." Chrysocolla couldn't see Sylvite's face, so she had no response to the smirk. "The first time I met him, he made me cry, so...I know he didn't mean to, but I'm just a little scared of him, I guess." Her shoulders drooped. "He's always been nice to my sister, too, as far as I can tell..but, you know, whatever. He's really powerful, but I've just never seen him relaxed." Her fingers pushed the zipper back and forth rhythmically.

When Sylvite pushed her hair at her, she took it, twisting half-around to watch Sylvite -- and there they were! Weapons! ...well, inasmuch as any Lieutenant got a 'weapon', which. Really wasn't much. "I could show you my magic, if you'd like, but...it does weird things. So - but yeah, those are your weapons...!" Her smile was gentle, excited. "They're better than Pyrophanite's -- he's a jerk, by the way -- but he has a toy bus. And, um...they should come back every time you power up! Are they edible? And, um, by the way...when I'm powered down, my name is Poppy. I'm a sophomore too." There she went, throwing the name out there to see if Sylvite recognized it, to see if anything happened.

"Yeah, I'm more of a Captain America girl, personally, but I know this junior, Megan? She's totally obsessed with Iron Man. Romantically. It's kinda weird. All the guys who play superheros are pretty old, though, I guess. I think Thor has kids? The celebrities our age are supposed to sell stuff to like, ten year olds." She rambled about actors because she didn't have anything more to say about Umber. She liked him, and Chrysocolla didn't. That was fine. She was coming to the realization that the corrupt was pretty sensitive, especially if a stiff personality was enough to make her cry. Sylvite made a mental note to be careful around her, to always be as nice as possible. She liked Chrysocolla, she realized. She didn't want her to cry. Around Umber... she'd work hard. She'd be a good soldier, even if he'd said she didn't have to worry about it.

When Chrysocolla mentioned her magic, Sylvite's wide eyed, sparkling gaze shifted from her new weapons to the other girl. It seemed she had a few types of wide eyed, sparkling gazes: the one of pure adoration, the one of surprise, the one tinged with jealousy, and this one. These eyes were begging. "Of course I wanna see your magic! Please? Can I? Um..." She stopped before it devolved into begging. Anyway, there were other things to think about. First, she licked one of her lollipops, half expecting plastic, but nope! It was real sugar. "It's good. Wanna try?" She held out the other one.

Poppy... wasn't a common name, and Alexa liked to know who people were. The only girl she knew with that name did have Chrysocolla's eyes, now that she thought about it, and maybe her face shape and the top fourth of the hair. Thinking about it too hard made her head hurt, though. "You're the new girl, right? I don't think we have classes together, but I've seen you around."

"...I haven't actually watched a lot of movies," Chrysocolla admitted hesitantly. "So I don't really know that many celebrities except the people everyone else does. Megan is kind of obsessed, though, I sit two tables away from her at lunch and I can hear her every few days...it's pretty impressive." She was happy to sit back and let Sylvite ramble, to let the other girl talk: it was hard, to start a conversation. Easier to listen, to nod, to smile when they kept going. Words were -- sometimes they stuck in her throat.

"Oh -- um -- okay! Just a second - " she crossed her hands over her chest, murmured "Warhol Mood Refraction," and held tight the spherical energy that fell into existence. She'd use it when Sylvite's discussion was over -- which might be in a minute, really -- but it was good to wait. "And no, I'm good...I try not to eat too much candy. I don't like sweet things that much." Chrysocolla had to giggle at that: here she was with a girl who was the very epitome of sweet, down to her weapons, and herself? She didn't like sugar.

"And that's me, yes...!" The recognition made her beam for a moment, eyes squeezing shut with the force of her smile. "Maybe we can try and meet up at lunch sometime? It'd be nice, to eat with someone...everyone's really loud most of the time." She hefted the ball up and down, taking Sylvite's outstretched hand and pressing it in - it dissolved through the fabric into sparkles, taking effect. "Please don't freak out or anything, um...my magic reverses emotions, so if you feel weird, it's normal...it doesn't last very long!"

stari_maga
Action: Sailor Chrysocolla crosses her hands over her chest, creating an approximately tennis-ball-sized ball of colorful energy that falls into her hands: this ball, as opposed to the one of Mood Reflection, has a secondary stripe of white. She then throws it at an enemy.
Effect: If this attack connects, it temporarily reverses the enemy's primary emotion for twenty seconds; i.e., bravery to cowardice. Unlike Warhol Mood Reversal, this attack cannot be shaken off prior to the natural timeout, even if the enemy realizes their emotions have been affected.

"You haven't seen a lot of movies? Do you want to? I have The Avengers... well, my brother does. But we could watch it! It has a lot of superheros in it and they're all really cool." Her eyes were begging again, not quite as much as they had been for the magic, but still. She shrugged when Chrysocolla refused the lollipops and continued to eat hers. It just meant more for her... and once the magic showed up, she wasn't thinking about much of anything else, just staring at it expectantly with wide eyes. "Yeah, sure, we can eat together," she said quickly. "Your magic is so pretty! All of this magic stuff is like, so cool!"

And then the orb hit her and everything changed. For a few moments, she just stared, brows knitting together and shining eyes becoming even shiner with tears. She sniffled. "Your magic is so pretty and cool. How come I can't be a senshi? I get lollipops. What am I supposed to do with lollipops? I just know I'm gonna be sick of sugar in, like, a week." She eyed her weapons for a moment and then threw them onto the ground, pouting, with enough forced that they cracked. Tears were streaming down her face. It wasn't just the lollipops, either. Her outfit, her powers, even her new friend that she'd been so excited about moments ago were such disappointments. Sylvite gave Chrysocolla the same look she'd just given her lollipops, but she couldn't exactly throw the other girl around, so instead, she turned away, putting her feet flat on the bench and hiding her face in her knees. "This is so stupid!"
