The look he gave her was anything but pleased.
"Go on now, Caelum. It'll be fun! Getting a little creative once in a while wouldn't hurt, yes?"
Unfortunately, he didn't want to "explore his artistic nature" as Mrs. Danjuma had so encouraged him some hours ago. He wanted to go back to his daily brooding and teenage angst regarding his move to Destiny City, but after having situated himself in her class, the woman let her concerns get the better of her. He was incredibly standoffish and she knew it wasn't her students to blame; some had even approached him, but Caelum rebuked them with a cold shoulder and mild indifference. Of course, entering into her class in the middle of the year did that to some students, but he was the most unruly of them all.
Mrs. Danjuma knew there was more to him, but his peevishness prevented him from making friends. If he just lowers his guard a little, I'm sure he'd find someone... she thought.
And in truth, Mrs. Danjuma was right. Caelum was desperate for friends—the ones he left behind after he moved from his comfortable little nook to the sprawling urbia he was to now call home. He didn't want to know anyone at Destiny City. No one, even if he was forced.
"Ma'am, do I really have to do this?" he asked her, gliding red orbs between hers and the door where, beyond, several students were setting up easels and getting to work on their paintings. "I don't even know how to draw. I suck at it."
"Oh, Caelum, dear, it isn't talent that matters here, just that you are having fun!" she encouraged, curling finely manicured nails onto his shoulder. "So just give it a try, I'm sure you'll love it!"
"But—"
Before Caelum could protest, Mrs. Danjuma turned the knob of the classroom open and gave him an insistent shove inside. He stumbled in and, as he steadied himself and turned to cry out a complaint, his teacher clicked the door close and had walked off. Turning back to his fellow pupils, the male pursed his lips, and stood awkwardly in place. His cheeks grew warm when a number of eyes wouldn't look away from him, so giving in to their expectations, he marched forward, sat at an empty easel, and stared up at a painting that obviously wasn't his.
Saint Sergio Hope this is okay to work with!

It was painting time. It was her favorite time of school. Her pallet was already full of paint, her canvas half covered, as well as her apron and face, and she seemed to just be getting really into it. Yes, she was supposed to help teach someone about what they were doing, but it seemed he was really reluctant. Finally when the empty easel next to her, Maggie looked over at him and offered him a soft smile, her paint brush stilling. "Hi," she whispered softly. "...Uhm.. I'm Maggie? I can help you out a little bit, if you need.." She wanted to be helpful but Maggie was so painfully shy. Her teeth sank into her lip as she chewed on it nervously before shifting her whole art set up to show him what she was doing. The painting on his canvas was one she'd done in a previous lesson and she reached over and took it down before replacing it with a blank one. Her movements were slow and hesitant because, honestly, she'd heard him resisting and wasn't even sure if he was interested in art in the slightest bit. "So wh-what do you need help with? I can maybe... sketch out what... we're painting? You can paint over that.. I think that'd be good." She was getting a bit more confident with her words as she spoke. Sitting up a bit straighter, Maggie tucked her skirt under her after crossing her legs and then just nodded. "Just let me know, okay?" Unoderi (Yeah! It totally works! Sorry my tag is so short. I haven't had a chance to play her yet!)

Caelum didn't readily answer Maggie. For a lengthy moment, he stared down at his knee, refusing to make eye contact; his lips thinned dramatically across his face and neck slumped as if he were shouldering the world's problems. He listened to what Maggie said, but her words seemed to slip in one ear and out the other. However, he couldn't keep up his forced facade long, and eventually turned to her to say something.
"Uh, yea," he said with a nod, giving her hesitant actions an uninterested stare. "We can do that. Sure."
Mrs. Danjuma had only made one request of him: Finish at least one painting by the time the period was up. He didn't have the energy to pick up a paintbrush, let alone compose a masterpiece, and almost told Maggie to do all of the work, not just some of it. The desire stilled on his tongue, though, when he realized just how much of a jerk it'd make him out to be. She hadn't wronged him, so she shouldn't be the taget of his anger; that privilege would go to Mrs. Danjuma. Eventually, but not now.
Easing back his anger a bit, Caelum said, "Uh, I'm Caelum, by the way." Realizing how stiff his introduction was, he added with, "Your painting was nice, Maggie," though the image had already faded from his mind. "What do you think would be a good thing to draw? I mean, you're the one sketching it, but like... Is there something you can reccomend?"

When she didn't get an answer, Maggie sort of drifted back to the painting before her and just sat there awkwardly. Well, Caelum definitely made this sort of hard on her, but he probably didn't mean to. The urge to call for her dad hit her hard but she was trying to not do that. No one liked how whiny she was. It didn't get her many friends. Swallowing a little, she moved to pick up her paint brush again until the other one talked again. They could do that? She beamed a bit and just let out a soft noise before grabbing hold of his canvas. "What would you like to paint?" And then his question came at the same time and she laughed because it was the same one as hers. She thought a minute and then nodded again. "I know. Why don't you paint something from the room. Still life is often easier! Let's..." Red eyes glanced around and let her head tip this way and that before she found a vase next to the window with some of the art supplies around it. Now that she locked onto her target, Maggie's hand moved automatically, sketching out the main details and not the fine ones. "This should be a quick one.. I take it you don't like art?"

Caelum followed her line of vision with his own red eyes before they landed on the vase she had mentioned. Then, as if transfixed by a pendulum swinging before his eyes, he followed her sketching movements with slight awe. Before him, the vase was slowly coming into view. Well, most of it.
When she directed the question his way, Caelum shook his head, albeit reluctantly. "Errr, well, not really," he replied. "I don't get the whole, well, y'know." He gestured to the entirety of the canvas and then the room with its many quietly working students as if that would explain himself. "It's not me. I can't do this. Any of this. I can manage an good looking line, though. I like sports and stuff. That's more exciting." He ignored the ire of a girl who looked to him when he said this.

"It helps me focus a lot of the times~ Well," she paused at that, bringing the pencil to her lips and then clicked her tongue. "That's not true. It distracts me. But I can lose myself in it? It's.." It helped her a lot with some of the looks she got. She pushed those thoughts to the side and just gave him a bit of a sheepish smile. "It helps me. It's not for everyone, but we need it for the grades." Maggie went back to the sketch, finishing it off before showing him with a flourish. "Now you can paint."

Caelum hummed out a note. He sort of got what she was saying; it was kind of like him and his drums. He could bang away at them for hours before realizing it was either time for dinner or bed. Different areas of interest, but similar all of the same. The thought brought a small smile to his lips; the first earnest one since being in Destiny City.
When he returned from his thoughts, Maggie had already presented a sketch to him. "Man, you work fast," he commented, reaching a hand over to the small tray of watercolors rested on the edge of the easel. Prying the lid off, he flashed eyes between the nine colors for him to work with and the vase in the background. Immediately, he found himself stuck. Leaning over towards Maggie, he pointed the paint set towards her and asked, "Err, what color should I work with? The, um, the vase is... It's not any of these colors."

"Ah, well.. The sketch is just supposed to show the shape of what you're going to paint. The paint itself is how you bring it to life. You won't be able to match exact colors, but with a bit of mixing you should be able to get in the ballpark." She chirped and then chuckled to look at her own painting. Maggie's eyes skimmed it over and a frown tugged at her lips, as if she wasn't so sure about something before his question was asked. She turned her head, hair rustling as she did and then looked at the paints and hummed. "If it were me I would mix the blue with some white and try to get the base color. You've gotta experiment!"

Caelum pursed his lips. He was reminded of his father then; "You've got to experiment, son! Unless you try, nothing's going to happen!" Rigel would say to him whenever he asked his dad about doing something simple. The man liked to promote creativity in his children, but Caelum would rather just being told what to do.
I guess not everything's so easy, he thought, though he did listen to what Maggie suggested and started mixing the blue and white together with the tip of the brush. He started to dab it on the easel, consumed with just covering the base sketch she had drawn, before withdrawing to see his work. It... didn't go so well. The vase looked more like a giant blue blob than anything discernible.
His attention regarding the activity began to sway and he put his brush down. It was more interesting talking to his activity partner than, well, actually doing the activity. "So, you do this often?" Caelum asked, clawing fingers onto the base of his stool and rocking back and forth on it. "Or, like, is there anything else you do besides painting? 'Cause I know there are other clubs and stuff in this school."

She watched him paint, a smile on her lips before she laughed a little more. Well, that's one way to do it. At least he was painting by himself! For a moment she looked over to her own canvas and dabbed a few more colors into the mix before she looked over at him again, at the questions. "..Painting? Yes. I paint a lot! I swim, too. In the winter I go to heated pools, and in the summer I swim in my own pool or the public pool..." She hummed a little as she prattled off the things she liked to do. "I really, really like eating. I'm.. a bit picky about what I eat, but I like it a lot! I consider it a hobby, but sometimes I get weird looks when I say it." Maggie squinted at his face a bit, gauging his reaction. Was he going to stare at her like a weirdo? If he did, oh well. It wouldn't be the first time. "Uuuuh. I play video games sometimes? Just puzzle games.. Bu.. what do you like to do?"

Caelum was genuinely interested in what she had to say. It was much better than painting, in his honest opinion. He nodded his head twice when she said she liked to swim. "Oh hey, I do too," he said, though he scrunched up his lips next. "I've never tried swimming in a heated pool during the winter; it's always been the summer. Really love taking a dive into the deep end."
He laughed lightly at considering eating a hobby. "Well, I won't say that it isn't," Caelum said. "There are certainly weirder ones and, besides, eating sounds like a great way to pass the time. What I'd give to eat a five course meal right now, heh."
The pink-haired boy seemed to jump at the mention of video games, but his excitement was quelled when she said it was only sometimes. "I love video games, I kick my bro's butt all of the times," he snickered. "Besides that, uhhh, I like to play the drums." Caelum stuck his chin up high. "I've been told I'm not bad. Not as great as those in famous bands, but damn near close." He began to rock back and forth on his stool again. "I also like to skateboard, but only to get from place to place. The skate park near here is too crowded to try getting anything in."

Maggie giggled a bit and bit down on her lip again before nodding. They had some of the same hobbies! That made things a lot easier to connect with him. So they both played games. Maybe she could expand her games to some that he liked playing too. "If you have any good game recommendations, I can probably get them soon! I've been wanting something new and different to play..." Her voice trailed off just as her hand came up to push her bang out of her face. "Skateboard? I can barely walk without falling, so standing on something on wheels isn't exactly appealing.. Unless I want to get some cool looking scars on my knees, and hands... and probably my face?" She thought about that and then shrugged. "I see people skateboard on TV and they look so cool! They do flips and things. I don't know how they do it. It's totally mind boggling!"

Caelum searched his memory, excited to find one more person to kick their butt in video games in share his interests with. "Well, have you at least heard of Pokemon? Please tell me you have, they're, like, the greatest." He bounced up and down in his seat. "There's so, so many. My favorite happens to be Slowking. I've never met a person who liked it too, though." That was actually... a half-lie. Slowking was second on his list; his favorite one was actually Cherubi, but he was a little embarrassed to admit that.
"There's also, like, all of the Mario games, Super Smash Bros, the Zelda games... Rune Factory and Harvest Moon are pretty fun as well. I'm really into games for the 3DS and stuff; my bro likes the shooter stuff, but I think those are pretty boring."
"Yea, it's pretty wild," Caelum said, slightly dejected. "I can't do stuff as great as that yet, but I'm getting my way up there." He tilted his head at her. "You said you right to eat, right? What's the weirdest thing you've eaten?"

"I've heard of Pokemon! I've never played the game or watched the show, but.. I know it's around. I know uhm.. That little.. yellow mouse one? Pik-chu or something?" Maggie's cheeks flushed as she talked about a subject she didn't know anything about. Slowly she rubbed her neck and then laughed awkwardly. "...I've heard of most of those games, too. Overheard in conversations at the pool." A lot of the swimmers she swam with were actually gamers. She didn't understand spending more than an hour on a video game, thus her love for puzzle games. "Uhh, the weirdest thing?" She thought back on her short thirteen years of life and then shrugged. "Oh! Dad brought home some fried, or grilled crickets! They're crunchy but really good, actually." She looked enthusiastic as she talked. "But I really love peanut butter and honey sandwiches. If you've never tired it, you probably should. It's gotta be the best thing I've ever eaten. Better than ice cream!"

While Caelum was excited about his video games, her reply seemed of fried crickets seemed to excite him more. "Whoa!" he cried, enough to bother the painter next to her. The glare she cast her way went largely ignored. "That's wild! I didn't know you could eat bugs, let alone, y'know, that'd they would taste good." He swallowed thickly at honey and peanut butter sandwiches; why was he feeling hungry all of a sudden? "T-that's sounds good too," he gulped. "I'm not big on sweets, but it really does. Conner'll probably scorf them down in handfuls. Oh, that's my brother—Conner. Do you have any siblings?"
