Her father had her up bright and early that morning, ushering her up and wake before the sun was up. She didn’t know why all the cloak and daggers, but she got up and followed him anyways. Her military training enabled her to be up and awake at a moment’s notice, as was required when in a war. You never knew when the enemy was going to attack, being ready at all times; even in your sleep was a necessity. The moved through the barracks without a sound and into a carriage that was awaiting them.
“Where are we going?” She whispered.
“The blacksmiths of course.”
Ah, so it would be another one of those days. Karothdra nodded and kept her gaze on the window outside. She didn’t think she was very good at this crafting stuff, perhaps her luck being higher than her actual skill. The sun was up by the time they reached the blacksmith who ushered them in and handed Karo her tools right away.
“No time to fool around.” He said before motioning for her to follow him as he once again showed her what she needed to do. She didn’t know why she was expected to have the same craftsmanship as the blacksmith; she wasn’t a blacksmith after all.
On she went, bending and shaping the metal in the heat of the forage for hours on end. She wasn’t liking what she was doing at all and when the blacksmith finally came to check up on her he shook his head.
“No good. You’ll have to restart.”
“I understand.” With a sigh, Karothdra threw the misshaped gauntlet into a disused pile. It hadn’t even looked like a gauntlet, how had she managed to make something so pretty last time and mess it up this bad now?
