A boldly striped doe pranced in front of a wide arch between two trees kicking a coconut back and forth between her front legs as she waited for kin to approach. Occasionally she would race forward and launch the nut at her companion, a totoma who seemed to be standing watch over a rather impressive pile of similarly sized coconuts, who would then rear back and with a bellow headbutt the flying fruit clean through one of a series of small hoops hanging within the arch.

"Wanna give it a shot?" The doe asks with a challenging note to her voice. "C'mon, Let's see what you've got!" She rolls a fresh coconut towards your hooves.

Participant: Soothe
RP Response: Soothe's first thought, upon arriving at the winter market, was that there was an awful lot of stuff going on here that she wasn't sure she felt too enthused about. "Hello," she said, smiling gently at the two kin at this stall. How had they made those loops? Perhaps she should ask.

"I've never done this before," she confessed, nibbling at her lip. But it seemed, at least, like this activity didn't have much to do with violence. Just, ah, kicking. "I like your loops," she added, polite as ever. "How did you make them?"

She made small talk for a bit before the coconuts were rolled over to her. She could totally kick these! She was pretty sure, anyway. She reared up, narrowing her eyes at those loops. She had to go, uh, pretty high, right? Well, um. That meant she could scoop from the bottom of the coconut, maybe? Yes. That'd be good. Closing her eyes, she did just that - opening them only to find that she'd actually...succeeded! It'd gotten in the medium-sized loop, at least.

She nodded, confident. It was time for her next coconut. At least she knew how this worked now. She went for it with eyes open, next time, which meant she had ample time to admire the lovely trajectory of her coconut as it sailed through the air - right into that miniscule loop! Oh dear. A grin broke out across her face. Surely that was doing well, right? Even though that coconut might have just, uh, broken open on the ground on the other side. Whoops!

Oh - right. She had a third coconut to try to, um, kick. Soothe licked her lips. She just had to not mess this one up. But when she felt her foot connect with the coconut, it was immediately obvious that this one wouldn't go where the previous one had gone. That didn't mean she missed, of course: it still found itself headed through the medium-sized loop.

"Wow," said Soothe, pleased. "I didn't know I could do that!"

Ducks gave a dramatic sigh that seemed to deflate her entire body as she rolled her eyes and grinned. "They took Foreeeever!" The doe nodded at Nut Smuggler. "It took both of us days to figure it out but I was tired of trying to aim at 'these two branches' or 'that weird bit of fern on the rocks there!' especially when half the time my nuts cracked if we were playing against a wall! It's really not much fun that way."

"I don't mind it." Nut Smuggler snickered from where he stood casual watch.

"That's because you get to eat the broken ones." Ducks stuck her tongue out at her friend. "Oh! But yes! They're vines! Well, not like ivy but tough ones. The thorny kind. Smuggler rubbed off the worst of the thorns and I chewed through the middle of the thick end, kinda made a hole to stick the other end through. That's what took so long. Trying to get a hole without chewing straight through, and these don't taste that great mind you! but sometimes they were too woody and just splintered or if they were too green they'd just mush and I had to get my mom to help us after a while. She's friendly with a crane. Did you know they're super precise with their beaks? It's wild! But I think they turned out ok. They work at least. I threw them up there myself!" She added proudly, glancing up at her creations.

"I'm not sure how I'm going to get them down." She pondered that problem while Soothe took her shots at the hoops. Seeing her success Ducks hopped in place, cheering loudly for her first player who'd done so well! "You're great! You and I should play sometime!"

Soothe turned to the does with a smile. "That sounds like a lot of effort - I don't think I could've thought of all that!" she hummed. "But I did know that about cranes! I-I'm very fond of them." There was a pause, where she ducked her head.

"You think so?" she asked, startled at the apparently sudden applause. "I'm - well, maybe it's beginner's luck." Still, this seemed an interesting way to pass the time, when she wasn't wandering around looking for injured animals, or something. "I would certainly be interested in doing this again, if I could find the time...o-oh! I'm Soothe."

Ramble could kick a coconut! Probably! The white kimeti ambled up to the booth to try his luck, hoping to make movements as fluid and effortless as the athletic totoma manning the station.

The first kick was pretty embarrassing. Ramble kicked out but almost completely missed the coconut. He just barely grazed it, sending it thudding onto the grass. It rolled sadly, then wobbled a little and came to a stop. His next two kicks were hardly better; the second one arced through the air like a frown, then hit the ground with a dull thump. It had just barely cleared the loop, which wasn't what he'd been expected. He'd imagined that the coconuts would just go sailing through the air wherever he wanted in a beautiful, swooping rainbow of flight- but the coconut didn't do that at all. His last kick was slightly better, but not by much; he frowned and glared at the coconuts. This was much harder than he'd expected.

RP Response: "So let me get this straight." Butterfly Kiss cleared his throat and eyed the goals. They all seemed impossibly far away and impossibly too small to be properly goaled, "I just kick the coconut into one of those holes?"

Well, easy enough. He could certainly attempt such a small feet. The first kick made it to the second smallest. The second kick landed into the smallest goal. Finally, the last kick landed again in the second smallest. Flabbergasted at the skill he... Unknowingly... Had, he shook himself off and smiled triumphantly at the two booth owners, "WELL! look at that I managed to get quite the good score. What fun."

Games? Games and balls? Things to chase and- oh wait, not chasing. Kicking? Well, Dog watched how the game was played, and figured he could totally run after the round ball-thing when he was done, right? Right! He waited for the kin before him to finish before shouting that he wanted to play too. He had to resist the urge to run around with the coconut that was kicked his way when his turn started. He did, however, take his time in getting a feel for this ball thing. Bouncing it around between his hooves and kicking it up a little to feel it's weight. Ok! He got this! He could totally do this! He kicked the all as hard as he could and...

Watched the coconut sail right over all the hoops. WHOOPS! He wasn't worried though because he could go chase the coconut and bring it back. He dashed after it and when he found it, sauntered back victoriously. His grin would have made you think he got the smallest hoop on that first kick. He still had 2 more kicks, and that was just fine for him! He looked at the hoops, and didn't kick nearly as hard as last time. Swish! Right through the medium hoop! Wahoo! He didn't remember what that meant, but he made it in the thing! He chased after the coconut again and tried the same tactic. A not so hard kick to maybe get it in the smallest hoop? Maybe? Nope. The final kick sailed up higher then the other 2, and the coconut bounced off the rim of the medium hoop and then plunked down through the largest hoop. Well, he still made it through a hoop! He did good! He wanted to chase the coconut again, even as the green doe was telling him he'd won 4 points and was giving him a token. He managed to stay long enough to collect his prize before chasing after the rolling nut. What fun!

Lies eyes the coconut, and then the goal, as he watches the other kin participating in the game. He thinks it doesn't look too difficult but then, coconuts aren't perfectly round, either. After watching a couple of rounds, however, he decides to give it a try. Walking up to the green doe, he smiles -- a charming smile that crinkles his glowing eyes up a bit.

"Think I could give your game a shot?"

When he has his own coconut to try with, he studies the goals for a moment more before lining up and kicking. The first two, quite sadly, only make it into the larger loop and Lies realizes this game is definitely not as easy as he'd thought. A little frustrated, he takes a moment to breathe, and his brow smooths out in concentration as he kicks one.. last.. time and --- yes!

He grins as it shoots right through the smallest loop.

User Image Was out and about, which was unusual for this doe. Even though she was a bright colored kin, she prefers to hunt in the night, luring unsuspecting kin, pets, and familiars to do what she wants with them. And in the morning, she sleeps.

But how can she sleep, with all this noise going on! Beyond being angry, she stalks from her den and looks about. Is this some sort of festival?!

She walks up to a random booth and saw a Totoma with no horns. Pretty strange but she has no right to talk, an evil kin having a bright coloring is unusual of itself. But she learned to make her weakness an asset.

"What is this?" she said to the Totoma as the kin explained what to do. False Light tried to win the game, but got nothing out of it.

As the Totoma handed her a coconut shell and told her to practice, she basically hissed at the kin as she snatched the coconut shell.

She turned away from the booth and went to look at what others have to offer.

Good and Done walked next to one of the newest members of their little clan, and perhaps they really should get going and open up as a tribe. If rather rambling and filled with strange kin. He had never met a Zikwa like his current companion, Burning Crown, in the plains before.

Or the Kimeti. He swiveled his head, listening to an energetic and spunky doe call out to the crowd, kicking what was that? A coconut, between her feet and then upwards and through a hoop. Ooh, that seemed a bit fun. “Are you going to play?” He questioned.

Burning crown shook her head, and settled to the side. “I’ll watch.” She murmured.

Good and Done nodded and trotted up, getting three coconuts for his trouble and gave a soft sigh over the doe. She was so lovely. Maybe after he impressed her, he could ask her out? Maybe? Possibly, but first he had to kick these coconuts through the hoops, how difficult could it be?

Turns out, more difficult than he expected. His first kick missed completely, the second just went through the first hoop. His third managed to go higher and just clear the middle hoop. Not what he wanted to go.

Flustered he went to collect his token.

"The thinking was the easy part!" Ducks nodded as if agreeing with her own statement. "I'm Ducks! and my friend over there is Nut Smuggler. You're more than welcome to come back and play again! After the festival we could get together for a proper game as well if you're still interested." With an apologetic bob of her head and a crooked grin Ducks turned to the small crowd of kin who had approached as she was speaking with Soothe.

Ohhh she liked his flowers! The pale buck wasn't doing so grand though. She grimaced sympathetically as Nut Smuggler kicked a coconut towards him. "Oh!" She raised her voice to the crowd before anyone could walk away just yet. "Everyone who plays can take a token too! Even if you don't score. These are just tryout--- I mean! It's just for fun after all!"

Nut Smuggler watched the next player line up his shots and nodded. "To put it at it's most simple: Yes." Smuggler grinned as the seemingly skeptical buck put the coconuts neatly into their goals. "See. Not so hard is it?" The totoma chuckled.

His chuckle turned into a snort of amusement as a very enthusiastic kio seemed rather more interested in chasing the escaped coconuts than actually aiming for the goals. Well. He'd never really understood these plains-runners anyways. It didn't come to much surprise though that the kin preferred the chance to stretch his legs over the steady precision it took to his the makeshift balls just right every time.

Ducks

After managing to get the kio to take a token before he bolted off Ducks turned to the next kin who addressed her and the skin under her gold cheeks miiight have flushed a bit. "I- um- Yes of course!" Ducks shifted her weight side to side before bouncing out of his way. "The largest loop is worth one point, followed by 3, 5 and 8 for the smallest ones!" She quieted as his first two kicks go low but a yelp of delight escapes her after his last shot. "Sometimes all you need is a warmup!"

Nut Smuggler

Nut Smuggler shifted to better stand in front of his pile of coconuts...and the tokens for that matter as a rather vivid doe well... stalked up to their booth. There was something unsettling about her, other than her bright colors that is that made his skin crawl. Something about the way she moved screamed 'unpleasant'. "It's a game." The sarcastic reply was out of his mouth before he could think better of it. Nut Smuggler amended it with "You get a token if you play. Just kick the coconuts towards the hoops and try to make it through one."

Well... she didn't do terribly? A couple misses but a solid swish on the smallest loop wasn't something to sneeze at but as he rolled the doe's consolation prize towards her she did something wholly unexpected and hissed Nut Smuggler pulled back quickly and let her leave without a word. Who knows... maybe her bite was poisonous.

Shaddaling

Ducks

Ducks winked at the latest kio as she passed him a token and a coconut to take home. "Don't get yourself down you didn't do too bad! You can always come back after some practice!"
