Small shopping sack over one wrist the Carnelian fiend moved through the holiday crowds with a singular authority. Everyone else would just have to get out of her way... well if Trivii would catch up. Twisting halfway around she spotted her chosen where she had been cornered by some guy with a mustache, the guy looked familiar, but unimportant.

Catching the look in her charge's eyes along with the impatience vibrating down the bond they shared, the cat girl apologized to her editor. "I have the kitten out holiday shopping, so I can't chat. I will try to get you those pictures tonight Jim." Breaking away she trotted to catch up with the little fiend.

"Do you even know where we are going?"

'No. But that place on the end is done up really pretty.' Nell pointed casually towards a small shop in a restored brownstone building, it had brightly colored lights and streaming garlands around the door. 'I thought if we started down there as we were finishing up we would be closer to home.'

"You don't even know what they sell."

'Is that important? We'll find out when we get there.' Nell spun in a quick circle, moving around behind Trivii to push her forward.

Only just barely resisting the cat girl shook her head. "Are you just blindly spending money or is there something you want?"

The fiend stopped and peaked up at her, 'But I want everything. You didn't decorate my room at all while I was a Wisp.'

Resisting an eye roll was hard, but she managed. "You have a bed, a desk, a vanity and a bookshelf."

'Like I said, I need everything.' The pushing resumed.

The cat girl flicked a grey ear in annoyance and then her eyes widened and she tried to put on the breaks. "Nell. Stop pushi-" The rest of her words were swallowed by a yelp as the door to the shop they were passing was shoved open by a rather harried looking man with dark features. Trivii blinded by pain for an instant stumbled up against a light post, cradling a sadly trod upon tail.

"Nephrite!" Amon called over his shoulder. "Come on, it's obvious we are not wanted in here, don't test your luck!" Damn, he had completely forgotten they had been banned from this specific shop, thanks to Nephrite's antics (a.k.a. stealing). Unfortunately for them, however, the shopkeeper had remembered quite well and instantly started making a scene . . . Threatening not only to call the police, but also to curse him and his 'abominable little wraith', and that had caused him to backpedal very, very quickly. He had no idea if the threat was true, but he did certainly not intend to stick around and find out.

He stopped dead in his tracks when he felt something soft underneath his shoe, and heard a pain-filled yelp, not unlike when he'd accidentally stepped onto the tail of a client's pet cat—considerably less angry though. He turned, gaze dropping onto the feline humanoid nursing her tail. Great, he got his depth perception back, and stuff like this still kept happening.

"I am so, so sorry," he started apologizing, "I didn't pay attention where I wa— Wait. Trivii?"

'Did you hear that? She called me an abominable wraith.' Nephrite was positively fuming when she caught up with her guardian. 'And I actually was going to pay this time.' She waved Amon's credit card, which her guardian instantly snagged back from her. It didn't matter, this one she'd already maxed out in an online store earlier this day anyway. She still had another one she had 'found' in his wallet. 'Also, she wanted to turn you into a toad.'

Blinking back tears the cat girl could only stare for a moment as the scene unfolded. She cocked her head twitching an ear to wait for the green child to finish, she snickered and wrapped her tail around her waist so she could protect it from any further insult.

"Ahh.." She scrambled to place him and blinked up at him dumbly until it clicked that he was another guardian.. the great coal escape.. "Hello Amon. I understand completely.." Grimacing she jerked a thumb over her shoulder towards Carnelian. "I wasn't driving. And I don't think the driver was paying attention."

Her pale eyes flicked over the all too innocent looking Nephrite before looking back to Amon in pained parental amusement.

Poking out from behind Trivii the orange fiend stares at the green fiend for an instant.. 'She really threatened to hex you? Isn't that bad for business?'

Amon peered over Trivii's shoulder and let out a small wolf whistle. "Hello there, gorgeous! I had no idea you had grown into such a beautiful young lady!"

That caused Nephrite to momentarily glare at her guardian, and she flitted past him and the cat girl to take a look for herself. Well, damn. She really was pretty. Nephrite's gaze hovered on the beautiful garments and jewelry, There was room for improvement though, especially with the hair. Maybe some makeup too.

'Hello,' she said, extending her hand, 'I'm Nephrite. Are you here here for gift shopping too?'

That caused her guardian to give a snort. "Her so-called gift shopping usually turns into a gifts for herself shopping," he explained to Trivii. "Only she tends to forget that part of the shopping actually requires her to pay before she makes off with the stuff."

He looked at Carnelian again. "Depends. I'd imagine having someone make off with your merchandise without paying up is bad for business too." He eyed the door to the shop warily, but no one seemed to be coming after them.

Slipping around Trivii in a smooth spin before returning to her post between Trivii and Nephrite, Nell beamed up at Amon, before looking curiously at the other fiend. 'Nephrite. I am Carnelian.' She dipped into a delicate bow one arm across her chest. 'Diminutively, please call me Nell.'

Looking at Nephrite's open hand for an instant, before grasping it in her own and allowing her shadows to taste at the other fiend. When Amon spoke she tilted her head swiftly. '... I was shopping, some for the holidays, but mostly for myself. This one, Trivii didn't decorate or get me anything important' while I was a wisp.... But she says that we have to pay for everything, there's a way to avoid paying the shop keepers?'

Trivii snatched a hand out and took Nell by the ear. "There is not." Looking up at the other human the woman continued. "And if you try, I will return everything I have gotten you and make you sleep in an empty room on a cot."

'No decorations? None of the important things?' Nephrite rose her hand to her face as if to hide a mouth hanging open in shock. 'Do you mean, no bed? No wardrobe? No vanity?! What about jewelry? Clothes? Perfume? Makeup!'

Amon made a face as if he'd just bitten into a lemon as Nephrite went on. "I am so very sorry for her giving Carnelian all sorts of ideas now," he said to Trivii with a guilty expression. He then dipped down to whisper into her ear: "Pray she doesn't mention the walk-in wardrobe."

"And no, there is no way of getting everything for free, because that would be stealing," he added, with a glare in Nephrite's general direction. The fiend merely cocked her head and quirked a brow, obviously not impressed.

'Well I have furniture... I suppose. But nothing else. But otherwise the room is a blank canvas.' The fiends green eyes were intense. As she tossed her arms akimbo. 'My walls are the most boring eggshell color... Now granted Trivii renovated the entire space for me in the last few years, but still.... there is really no excuse for not having cosmetics... Her's are tattooed on, so I can't borrow things unless I want lip gloss.' She let the irony of that speak for itself. Along with a long suffering shake of her head as she dropped her arms. 'Having to pay for everything, is like adding insult to injury.'

Trivii Looked up into his dark face and smirked. "Don't worry, it wouldn't take Nell long to figure out what her luxury options are, I do a lot of in home visits and museum tours in the line of work." Glancing at the girls she shook her head, "trying to teach her to put others first has been a challenge, not that she's selfish.. but I think using the holidays as a chance to teach her about economics wasn't the smartest thing I have ever done."

'Don't talk about me like I'm not here please. I can put others first, I just don't know that many people, and you dodge people who will take advantage of us like the plague.'

"Hush you." Looking at Amon and Nephrite, "We should get back to business before the shops start to close, Nell wants to start with that particularly well decorated place at the end of the stretch, she says that its less walking at the end of the day if we start with the furthest one. Any idea of what they sell?"

'Then we should find you some wall hangings.' Nephrite nodded. 'And perhaps a wind chime? Do you like lanterns? Candles?' Granted, these weren't necessary since they were creatures of Shadow—'Amon, what is a wraith?' she eventually remembered to ask with a bit of delay—so they could see perfectly well even in deepest darkness. But, as long as they weren't too bright, lanterns were nice to have for mood lighting. 'And, oh, if you don't have one yet, you do need a mirror.'

"Home decor," Amon replied promptly upon Trivii's inquiry, familiar with most of the stores around due to Nephrite's shopping sprees. "Fortunately we haven't been banned from that one . . . yet." He gave Nephrite a pointed look. "A wraith is a ghost of sorts."

Trivii shuddered delicately and tossed a glare at the design shop, visibly bracing herself. "Money Pit then. Well we should get started there, maybe once the money is gone I can get home and have a nice cup of tea.... It is awfully rude to call a child a wraith.. even if it is half true." Reaching out she artfully touched each girl on the shoulder to start them forward. "We're walking, walk and talk at the same time ladies." Looking back at the other guardian she smirked "want to tag along? With Miss Nephrite I suspect you could use another set of eyes, or did you have somewhere else to be?"

At her guardian's nudge she started again in the direction of the pretty shop, 'I love the idea of making everything very bohemian! Lots of brightly colored glass bottles, scarves, tapestries.. I hadn't thought about lanterns or lighting!' Beetling her brows together she shook her head, 'I don't like mirrors at all. Do I really need one?'

"A money pit indeed. Not my taste, but I do buy gifts there occasionally. Fortunately most of their items do have a certain minimum size that makes it hard to hide them even in kimono sleeves." Amon checked his watch. "We were just about done—"

'We were not, they chased us out before we were done,' Nephrite protested. 'AND insulted us!'

"We were just about done," Amon repeated patiently, ignoring the interruption, "but I don't have to be elsewhere for a while yet." As he walked alongside Trivii, he curiously eyed her face. "'Tattooed on', seriously?"

'But how are you planning on using makeup if you don't see what you are doing?' Nephrite inquired, hooking her arm into Nell's, as if they'd just become best friends. 'Unless you have someone else doing it for you, of course. Why don't you like mirrors?'

Laughing a little, Trivii reached up to demonstrate by rubbing at one eye. "Facial tattoos make it harder for facial recognition software to pin me down.it becomes more necessary that anyone looking for me, do it in person. And its just my eyeliner. It also makes it easy to just wake up and walk out the door while still looking put together."

Reaching up, Nell played with a lock of hair while happily leaning on Neph as the sort of swayed through the crowd. 'Long story.' The look on her face was a little abashed.

The woman arched a brow at the child. "Not so long a story really. When Nell was a wisp she pummeled recklessly into a cheval glass, needless to say the mirror broke, and she has another two years to go before the bad luck wears off." He voice came out half purring, as her lips turned up at the corner. She rolled her eyes at Amon, "And you may be able to guess, but I have spent quite a few hours in design stores, before and since. After Nell came along I bought a house, and spent five years renovating. I thought I was done with places like that." They were nearing the shop and could hear gentle piano music colliding with the din on the street as the player moved through carol of the bells.

'There's more to it than that, I saw something in the mirror.' Tossing a glare over her shoulder at her bonded the girl shrugged at her new friend. 'I can always cover the mirror with a drape while I'm not using it right?'

"Still . . ." Amon kept eyeing her face with morbid fascination. "I got a few tattoos of my own, but I'd definitely never want a needle to go so close to my eye. Repeatedly." He shuddered. "Is it a cultural thing?" he asked, honestly interested.

'Ohhhh,' Nephrite made at the explanation. Having been raised by a guardian who was highly superstitious, it didn't even occur to her to question the whole 'bad luck' thing. 'Maybe a small mirror then. Amon, can there be things living in a mirror?'

"Typically only your reflection." Amon shrugged. "Unless, of course, the mirror was cursed or enchanted; or you did the 'Bloody Mary' chant." He quirked a brow. "I'd say, if you get a small generic mass-produced one, you're likely on the safe side. Don't buy an antique." That also ought to save Trivii some money at least, he thought.

Nephrite perked up when she heard the music, and—eager to get inside—she tugged Nell to hurry up. 'You'll love this shop,' she told her new best friend. 'Everything in there is so pretty!' Plus, it was nice and warm. She hated the cold.

Keeping her eyes on the girls Trivii tossed a half smile at the tall man next to her, "You could say its cultural. Marks from another life. And to some extent I agree with you, if I had it to do again I probably would not have done my eyes."

'The Cheval Glass was as old as the house!' Looking at Amon her green eyes widened, 'A small one, mass produced. Maybe sized for my vanity? So that I can drape a scarf over it. But no plastic, that's just tacky.' Lifting her hands she mimed an oval about the size of her own torso, bracelets chiming happily in the movement.

Shaking her head Trivii looked a little concerned, "The glass was older than the house, I picked it up at a flee market because I recognized the fogging from the mercury silvered back. I wonder if Nell really saw something," Then in a quiet voice for Amon alone, "I see what you did there. Thanks."

As the girls pushed past the elegant window display, Trivii braced herself and glanced at him, "Any advise? Other than keep an eye on their hands?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 24, 2016 3:10 am

'Marks from another life', eh? He had those too, carved into the skin of his back. Amon couldn't help but wonder about what her story was. So far, of all the Guardians he had met, Miranda seemed to be the only one to have lived a sheltered, comparatively normal life. Which, of course, was over now that she'd allowed for Rutie to bond with her soul—asked for it even, that foolish girl.

"That does sound about right," he confirmed to Carnelian. "Maybe a tad bit smaller, to make sure nothing can come through? Just in case."

'The mirrors are over there!' Nephrite pointed, already floating into the direction and pulling her new friend along. 'What else do you need? I'm pretty sure they would have a stand for your bangles. I know they have them for necklaces and earrings, so they should have them for bangles too! Ohhhh, and maybe a pretty bowl or something for your jewelry?'

"I'd love to say it was probably just her imagination," Amon said to Trivii, mulling over the possibility of a haunted mirror. "But the fact is, we're sharing our households with a magical shadow creature bound to our life force—so, honestly, I wouldn't rule anything out. Best ask Athan about this, he probably can tell you more."

He politely held the door for Trivii, watching with concern as Nephrite made a beeline for the mirrors section, pulling her new best friend along. "Keep both eyes on their hands. Also pray that Nephrite doesn't tell her about the delivery service—maybe you can get away with purchasing only as much as you can carry."

With a happy spin that jostled a table display, Nell moved along in Neph's wake happily chatting. 'As a really love sparkly things, I think a few jewelry stands is a great idea!' Waving her bracelets in example. 'I love all kinds of colors, maybe a colorful glass dish or casket for odd small pieces? And I really want some pretty bottles and an old fashioned atomizer for perfume....'

The cat girl nodded at looked at her companion with a grimace. "Sharing our lives with a magical shadow creature?" She laughed, "I've also become the proud caretaker of fairy land. A month after I moved into the house I discovered frost pixies... and haven't been able to get rid of them... occasionally a friend of theirs shows up and also doesn't leave. I was starting to think of it as a sign that I should give up freelance writing and publish a few children's books.."

Moving into the shop ahead of Amon she nodded her thanks as her ears flitted and she scanned the the shop in the wake of the girls, "Keeping an eye on their hands when they can both use the shadows against us..." The cat girl sounded amused.
