She'd been patrolling, of course, found a youma, of course, and went after it, of course---
But this one...this one was definitely one where she bit off way more than she could chew. She couldn't help herself though! She had to try, or else it'd be going after someone who didn't even stand a chance! That someone, it appeared, was her tonight.
This particularly strong youma happened to be roughly in the form of a gorilla, and she didn't doubt it would go ape on her if it got it's claws on her. It'd already thrown her from a fire escape, and after she tried taking a swing at it with a steel pipe, it swung her out of the alley way and into a street. Sedna rolled across the pavement like a wheel before she hit a fence on the other side.
She glanced back behind her, eyes a bit wide. Oh, no---a park!? Since it was a bit later, hopefully there wouldn't be any people---she glanced back at the alley way, where the youma was barreling straight for her like a steam train, and she let out a yelp before she scrambled up and over the fence. No choice! Through the park it was! She landed on the grass with a heavy thud, and took off running, glancing back over her shoulder to see how, unfairly, the youma cleared the fence with ease.
She hoped for a brilliant idea between soon and now.

When one was trying not to power up, and one had a conscience that said those in needed had to be helped, it was probably a poor idea to let oneself get caught out of doors at night. So much of the damage the Negaverse did was at night... and Orah knew that. But still, she let herself stay late at the library after class, leaving her walk home alone in the dark.
It wasn't surprising then, to hear the sounds of a scuffle going on down an alley way as she passed, and the grunting snarls of some huge monster. Orah had a moment, just a small one, where she regretted her duty as a senshi, but it was over just as quickly as she ducked into the alley and reached for the pocket that held her pen.
Bright purple light bounced from the walls and in moments, it was not a young student, but a senshi that came running out of the dark, her heels rapping against the concrete. Powered up, the youma's signature was plain and Ida zeroed in on it, changing course to make for it. When she cleared the buildings, she caught sight of the monster as it leaped the fence to the park and her boots picked up pace, carrying her across the parking lot at a fast clip.
Ida cleared the fence with ease and as she did her heart jumped, catching sight of a fleeing figure. This youma was after someone! Opening her senses confirmed a basic senshi and that was all Ida needed to know. She had to do something...
"Heavenly Orchid Arrows!" The eternal shouted as she threw a hand up, calling for her senshi magic. A glowing bow formed of petals appeared in her hand and she pulled back the string, an arrow of light forming. She skidding to a halt before she released her magic, the bow bursting apart as the arrow flew straight for the monster. It might not take this huge beast out in one, but it should slow it down... give the other senshi a chance to get to safety.
Eternal Sailor Attack: Heavenly Orchid Arrows! [What it does] An out-flung hand casts a trail of petals that form a bow-like shape. She takes it up and uses it to fire arrows of light with hardened petals as arrow heads. The arrows have an 'aura' of power to them and explode on contact. The explosion is more concussive, causing a pressure that can push a target backwards a foot or two, but doesn't do much in the way of actual damage. Unbalanced enemies could be knocked over, if they were caught unaware. Particularly heavy opponents may not be moved by the attack, but could be distracted or slowed by the pressure of it. Each arrow takes a lot of power to cast and her limit is three, which exhausts her and can force her to retire until she's rested.
The flicker of an eternal signature on her radar was like a lighthouse in the stormy sea. Very cliche, but oh so true. It had her chest swelling with hope, immediately followed by utter relief. She heard a roar from the youma as it was struck, but had, unfortunately, missed Ida's incredible attack.
Sedna reached a tree, where she snagged a thick branch that had fallen off at some point. The senshi then whirled around, and charged back at the youma, now that she had that chance she'd been hoping for. "Hey, thanks!" She called out to the other senshi with a wide grin. "You really saved my hide! I ow you big time!" She approached the stunned youma, and swung the branch around like she was trying to hit a home run in baseball. The crack from the impact was utterly satisfying, but while it further stunned the youma, which wobbled and heaved to the side, it didn't take it out just yet.
"Just a little more!" Whether she was saying that to herself, or Ida, was up in the air.

The monster fell as her arrow exploded against it, but rather than fleeing as she hoped, the other woman took the opening and launched her own attack. It was as worrying as it was appreciated... whoever this was, they were willing to fight and two were far stronger than one alone, even if it put the basic senshi at greater risk.
The tree branch was a clever idea and Ida rushed in from behind as the senshi took a hard swing at the monster. She heard the wood connect with a sharp sound and she jumped forward, kicking out from the other side to pin the youma between them. It landed with a solid thwack and she darted backwards to clear a swipe from one of its massive, meaty fists.
"Don't worry about it!" She called back, putting confidence into her voice. "Just give it another one upside the head!"
Fighting this particular youma called up old memories of another time when she had faced something like a gorilla. It had been three of them that time and a Captain besides. She still remembered the feel of his hand in her chest and the moment when it had all gone dark, but this time, there would be no starseed pull and no Shangrila with tears in his eyes. This youma would be dust and she would take a deep satisfaction in it.
Sedna may have had stars in her eyes as Ida rushed in and delivered a kick to the thing. Man. Eternals were so cool. She wanted to be an eternal soon!
The senshi let out a yelp of surprise as she realized that a fist was coming her way as well, and she dropped into a low kneel as it swung above her in an arch. "Got it!" She replied, and used the drop to her advantage. She pulled the branch back again, and then shot up and arched the branch in an upwards diagonal swing, cracking it against the creature's jaw and side of it's head. The youma staggered greatly this time, swaying, and Sedna let out a choked sound as her branch snapped as well from the impact.
"Oh fudge---" She froze, eyeing the youma as it stilled, and then was utterly relieved as it exploded into dust. She raised a hand to protect her face, but at this point was resigned to getting covered everywhere else. Sedna coughed a bit, but then let out a laugh. "Yikes! That was the worst one I've encountered to date!" Her tall frame sagged with relief, briefly, before she was straight and alert again as she turned to Ida, bright eyed and beaming. "I seriously owe you big time! I would have been sunk without yourself! What was that attack you used before!? I didn't get to see it, but it seemed so cool! Then that kick---" Sedna went on, and then just as suddenly thrust her hand out to the senshi.
"I'm Sedna! Senshi of Ships, by the way!" She gave the eternal a fox eyed grin.

Ash spewed in all directions, but despite the dirt on her uniform, Ida was well satisfied with the night's work. One less youma to terrorize the people here, and another senshi who was safe. A senshi who had a good swing with a branch.
When she straightened, Ida finally got a good look at her with her hair pale beside the rich burgundy of her coat and hat. It was a familiar style, calling to mind sailing and the see. And her eyes... Ida had to tilt her head back to meet them, but they were the darkest eyes she had ever seen, yet they shone with mirth and it was hard not to find an answering smile on her face.
"I'm glad you're okay." She said, with true feeling. "Youma can be nasty, sometimes worse than the Negaverse."
A hand was thrust her way and Ida took it without thought, wrapping dusky fingers around pale ones.
"Ida, of Orchids." She returned, her smile widening. "My attack is 'Heavenly Orchid Arrows', which basically gives me a bow and a single arrow to shoot. It explodes when it hits something, which is good if you want to knock something down, but that's about it."
Ships... sunk? Was... was that a pun? Surely not...
"Its nice to meet you. Have you been at this for a while? I haven't seen you around before, but you look like you might know what you're doing pretty well. You don't owe me anything, really... I was just doing what anyone would have done, it wasn't anything special. I'd rather dust the youma than have one of our people hurt."
She seemed so lively, it was nice to see. Someone fresh faced and new, who hadn't been beaten down by all the pain and suffering their kind was prone to. It was Ida's hope she held onto that, for as long as she could.
"Nooooo joke!" Sedna breathed, and flashed the senshi a thumbs up. "I'm dandy! Ah, Ida! So great to meet you!" Sedna's fingers wrapped firmly and warmly against her's, and gave her hand a firm shake. "What!? That is so cool! Do all eternals get bows? I want a bow! What other kinds of magic can you do?" Not the bows on a uniform either, but actual bows like Ida had. That's what she wanted.
"Oh, about a few weeks...or maybe close to a month now!" Sedna's brows furrowed as she thought about it briefly. "I'd still say I'm pretty new, especially compared to others I met! Some have been at it for nine months, and I met a chibi who has been at it for more than two years!" There was awe in her voice as she spoke about these individuals. "I've been meeting a lot of new senshi and knights as well though---how long have you been a senshi for---PFFFFFT." Sedna abruptly stopped, and waved her hands at Ida.
"Nothing special!? That was all kinds of crazy special! Not to mention you have little wings and you have glow patterns---is that an eternal thing, too? Glow patterns and wings?"

The new senshi certainly had a lot to say and it sort of washed over Ida in a wave, leaving her wide eyed and blinking as she processed it. Enthusiastic was a good word for this woman. Gregarious. Not that Ida minded! But it wasn't often she met someone like this and it took some mental realignment to keep up.
She squeezed Sedna's hand as they shook, watching her brows draw together in thought.
"A month isn't very long, or even nine months." She said as she nodded along. "I've been at it for about three years, or seven, depending... oh!"
A dusky hand lifted to press to her cheek and Ida shrugged, looking sheepish.
"No, um, the glow isn't an Eternal thing. Its kind of a new development, actually, we're calling it Transcendence. It is pretty special, I guess, but little wings certainly aren't!" It drew a smile on the smaller woman's face and she reached back to fluff up the decorations, turning to give the other a look at them. "They're not real, so it isn't like I get any sort of benefit out of them. And once you get stronger, I know you'll be able to hit as hard, or harder than I do. My magic just used to be a spray of needled, but it upgraded as I did, till it came with a fancy magic bow. Do you know what your magic is yet?"
It felt a little like talking to Whisler and his desire to touch her butt wings, and a little like all the other times she had mentored someone in the past. It didn't happen very often these days, not when she never went out looking for people, but it was still a good feeling to meet up with somebody new and just talk with them, maybe exchange information.
"WHAT!?" Sedna's hands slapped on her cheeks as she stared at Ida with wide eyes. "You've been a senshi for three years---seven!?" Her mouth dropped open. "Seven depending on what?" She needed details.
Sedna's hands stayed on her cheeks as Ida spoke, her expression relaxing into awe. "Oh---Transcendence? That sounds really nifty! How did you get it---Transcendence? What does it do? Awwwww---" Sedna frowned lightly upon hearing that the wings didn't do anything, which left her to wonder why they were there in the first place---though she guessed that logic could be applied to a lot of their costumes. "Gosh, I sure hope so! I was already impressed with how hard I could hit now, but seeing higher level senshi just shows me there's a lot to work towards!" She beamed at Ida. "Cool! Uh, yeah! Like---I clap my hands and call out my name attack, and these little ships appear around me in a circle and shoot out---from what I gathered, they make targets feel like they're sinking!"
She nodded her head a bit, as if to reaffirm what she had just said about her own magic, and finally lowered her hands, resting them on her hips. "I can't wait to see what else it can do when I get more experience! Say, Ida---you got any words of advice for a noob?" She grinned at her.

Ida waved her hands at the excitement and awe in the other girl's voice, her cheeks turning pink. Someday she would learn to stop bringing that up... it inevitably raised questions.
"Its... complicated and a long story. Probably better told in a coffee shop or at home with something to drink." Now was probably not the best time to go into 'I have five years worth of memories of an alternate reality future'.
Questions came one hard on the heels of another and the older senshi struggled to process them, sorting them so she could give proper answers to all of it. Mentoring had become less common for her lately, but there was still the need to be there, to help and inform and guide. If she could, she would try.
"We don't know how Transcendence happens yet, everyone's experience has been different. It seems to be a stronger bond with the place you get your power from and there are some benefits you get from that." Ida said as she lowered her hands, wrapping them around the compact that hung from her neck.
At least Sedna knew about her magic. All in all, she seemed to already have a pretty good handle on things, which was relieving to see. It was the ones tossed out with nothing that always tugged at her the most. There was so much danger involved in being a senshi, or a knight, and so much risk in the beginning when so little is known about what's going on. That thought prompted the answer she gave after a moment of thought to consider the last question.
"Um... I suppose the biggest piece of advice I could give... Is to find a partner, or a group to form a team." She said finally, giving a nod that set her hair to brushing her cheeks. "Too many senshi, and knights, go around all alone and that's so dangerous. I know from experience what's its like and I can say that the times I lost a fight or got hurt, sometimes very seriously, were only the times I wasn't with my team. When I had them with me, we always succeeded. We watch each other's backs and we keep each other safe. I feel like the best thing anyone can do is to find someone to watch their back and help them out of a tight spot."
"I know quite a few people now... if you would like to meet a couple of senshi who've been at it for a while like me, or some newer ones who are at your level, I can put you in touch with them. I also know some guardian cats if you have questions for them. Or you know..." The Orchid senshi shrugged lightly. "If you need a doctor who's one of us, or a place to crash for the night, I know those too. There is actually a whole organization a senshi started to help out other senshi with things, like a charity. Its called the Black Watch."
Sedna gasped, eyes going wide. "I'd love to get coffee sometime!" Because she got to hang out with cool Ida-Senpai and also learn more things about her and being magical! "Can we do that!?"
The senshi's lips made an 'O' shape as she listened, nodding her head. Yet more non-concrete things in the magical world. Transcendence seemed like a really cool thing though...she'd be on the look out for more senshi like that, to hear their stories!
She nodded her head once more, energetically at that, as Ida started to give her advice. Her expression brightened with thought. Find a group to form a team, or a partner huh? She'd been meeting a handful of senshi and knights so far, and she definitely found comfort in the thought of forming a team---but it was a matter of getting others together for it. A partner though---
The senshi gasped, and slapped her hands to her cheeks.
She knew who she wanted as her partner.
He was grumpy, and Russian, and a knight of Polaris.
Sedna kept nodding her head as she listened, her hands now stuck to her cheeks. "Yeah! That makes sense---oh? Really!?" She grinned at Ida. "I'd love to meet them! I've been meeting a few here and there---but no one I've been able to really rope together for a team---yet. Ah! I'd like to know all of these people---wait...Black Watch?" She stared at the eternal. "...Sounds like an ominous name for a helping group!" She jested, and laughed. "Oh wait!" She removed her hands from her cheeks, and fished out her senshi cell phone.
"Getting numbers is good, yeah!?"

I'm so sorry Ida...

Her sudden burst of enthusiasm took Ida aback a little, but not in a bad way. More... pleasant surprise.
"Ah, um... sure! Sure, if you want to get coffee, I would enjoy that." A smile crept onto her face as she eased into the idea, finding that she rather liked it. Another friend, particularly a senshi, was always a good thing to have. If she could help out someone at the same time? Even better.
Ida blinked as Sedna clapped her hands to her face and she smiled, reaching to press her fingers to her lips to hide it. The expression as too funny. She sure had a lot of energy and enthusiasm to her. It was refreshing, sort of, to see it.
"Yeah, the name sounds kind of dark, but Thraen, the one who set it up, had a good reason for the name. Black like night, you know? When most of us are active. He's got a whole system set up, with safe houses and supplies, people who can help out if there is ever anything you need." When Sedna pulled out her phone, Ida did too, her thumb swiping the screen open so she could pull up the camera. A quick photo and Sedna's information was in her contacts.
"Here, I'll send you Thraen's information. He knows the most about how the Black Watch functions and the stuff it can do. And, if you ever need anything, you can feel free to call me too, and I'll do my best to help." Ida scanned through her list, pondering who she could put Sedna in touch with. Bohlinia, Cybele, Claudia... Maybe Kepler? People who might still be about her level, though teaming up with an eternal or knight wouldn't be a bad idea. She made sure to forward the contact to Sedna's phone for Thraen. He was knowledgeable and competent... he would be a good person for her to know.
"Um... did you have any other questions I can answer? Have you been to your planet yet?" Always a good topic. It never seemed to be much on the minds of people when they were just starting out, but she was proof of the benefit that could be found by getting closer to the source of your power.
"I'd love to!" Sedna pumped her fists excitedly. "You just name the date, time and place! I have classes during the day---but I'm free from early afternoon and then on!"
She then went back to nodding as she listened, and her expression brightened. "Oh, Thraen! I'd heard about him, before! Eurydike, the senshi of Salt---he told me about him! Wowzers!" Sedna's eyes went wide with awe. "He set up all that stuff?" That was so...crazy extensive and well thought out and planned. "Glad he's on our side!" Seriously. She snapped of photo of Ida, pleased, and then grinned. "Thanks so much!" The senshi pocketed her phone, and then laughed, rocking on her booted heels. "Oh, don't offer that!" She teased. "I could keep you here all night and into the day and then some---I actually do have a boat load of questions---but they're not so pressing for the right now---does that make sense? Ah---" Sedna shook her head, and her cheeks flushed a bit red in embarrassment.
"I haven't---yet. I met a Guardian cat who gave me my phone and showed me how I could go there using a button on it---but I haven't yet..." She trailed off for a moment. "Just learning there was magical people running around was one thing, and then learning that I was magical was another---and here's a talking cat telling me I can go into space by pushing a cell phone button to a space rock that's mine---I wanted to get a little more comfortable in---" Sedna made sweeping hand motions to indicate herself and the environment around her. "This before I ventured out there." She gestured up to the night sky now.

Wowzers... that was so cute. She couldn't help being charmed. New senshi were so often like this... all bright and shiny. It was one of the things Ida always enjoyed most about helping them.
"He's really organized and thoughtful. I sometimes feel a bit stupid around him, I have to admit." It was hard to tell what he thought of her in return. He was always so closed off... It was hard, not knowing where she stood with the senshi of Gardens when it came time to face him.
"And I really don't mind answering questions if you have them." Ida added as she curled her fingers around the compact hanging from her neck. "I kind of enjoy it, actually."
"Its understandable, if you're not ready to go to your planet yet. It is a lot to take in, I remember that. Everything will be there when you're ready, but if it helps, remember that it's all yours. Your heritage, the remnants of the life you lived before. There are things you can learn there that you can't anywhere else and no one else in the universe has access to it, that I know of." She shrugged, knowing she tended to get passionate about this subject. "Just something to think about. Ida is like a safe retreat for me. I go there when I need to think or be alone, or when I'm upset. Its peaceful, safe, and it never changes that I can tell. If you... ever felt up to it, I could take you there. Any time. The invitation is open."
It would be nice to take someone along on a visit. It would be a good distraction from the concerning growth of the dead zone she'd found. Which... Sedna probably didn't really need to know about. Because that was a fabulous introduction to planets for a new senshi.
