Cornetified Rhonann was sure of little these days. It wasn't long ago that she'd woken up, knowing only that she had to keep moving. Why? She didn't know. Where? She didn't know that, either. Still, move was what she did. Walking north from where she'd woken, which had been dry and sparse, she quickly saw a change of climate, and found herself going through a huge forest. Another thing she knew was that she was starving. She tried bits of plants here and there, but it wasn't enough to fill her. When she saw the stirring of a few ferny bushes, she excitedly pulled out her slingshot, muscle memory guiding her to load the stone and shoot at her possible meal.
Moose When your only guiding force was a stained map, and some directions given by a drunk sister then you were bound to get lost. Mnyiri wasn’t sure where she was, but all she could hope for was that she wasn’t ear deep in shifter territory. The young woman had tried to send Mvua out to scout the area, but the radaku seemed as interested in scouting as he usually did. He’d snorted, curled his lip in a snarl and curled up for a nap.
Of course, that left her to explore alone, since Jioni was the only one awake enough to guard camp. What she needed was dry wood for a fire; something to spook all the bad creatures away. With that in mind, Mnyiri had started scrounging her way through the dense foliage on her hands and knees. Just as she was about to grab a prime stick something hard came out of nowhere and smacked into her side, causing her to cry out. Had she been bitten by something?!
Cornetified Hearing the yelp, Rhonann grinned for a split second, followed quickly by a curious frown. That sounded very not animal. Darting forward, she pushed the ferns aside to find her prey... Though startled, she couldn't help pausing to stare, a mix of irritation and amusement on her face. "Hey, I'm trying to get food here. What're you doing lurking in there? ..And what are you?" She'd never seen anything like it! Well, she didn't think she had…
Moose Mnyiri rubbed her side, trying her best to twist around in the bush to see if the thing that had latched on was still there. She couldn’t feel anything, but the little bruise that would surely crop up soon. The noises from outside her bush were alarming, though, and by the time Mnyiri was able to turn around the strangest girl she had ever seen was looming over her. “I’m not lurking, I was trying to get this stick.” Just to prove her point, she held it up, now that there was more room to move around. Still, she couldn’t seem to take her eyes off the creature. There was a beauty there, something natural, but all the while...strange. “And what do you mean what am I? Isn’t it obvious?” Who didn’t know what an Alkidike looked like? “And besides, what are you? Are you sick? Is that why you look like that?”
Cornetified The thing... was getting a stick? Rhonann's nose wrinkled with confusion. "If I knew what you were, I wouldn't be askin'," she insisted, cheeks flushing slightly. Was it supposed to be obvious? Did she really know what that thing was?? Her eyes narrowed slightly, and she pointed her finger at the tall creature. "You expect me to know what you are, but you don't even know what I am?" She gave a short laugh and crossed her arms, looking like she was keeping a secret. ...Unfortunately, Rhonann didn't what what that secret was. She didn't know 'what' she was. ..Just that she was Rhonann. "And I'm not sick at all. In fact, I'm feeling just fine."
Moose “Well, yeah.” She said with a point blank stare. Mnyiri pulled her legs underneath her, freeing her belt from the tangle of thorns around her. Once she had that accomplished she proceeded to stand up...and noticed just how short the new creature was. It wasn’t as if she was knew at this whole ‘tall’ thing, but this...this was new. “Oh Aisha, you’re so small. How old are you? Are you fully grown?” Maybe they got bigger?
“If you’re not sick then why do your eyes look like that? And your skin and those things on your forehead-” Mnyiri kept leaning closer and closer, hands raised as if she were likely to reach out and touch Rhonann at any moment.
Corny Rhonann had to scratch her head. Something told her she was roughly normal size... but why was that thing so much taller? "I'm not Aisha. My name's Rhonann. ....and I don't think I'm full grown yet... but I'm close! ...You're just really tall." Her eyes? What about her eyes? Her own hand rose to touch the small gems on her forehead, eyes warily watching the suspicious hands reaching toward her. "Well, I could ask you the same thing! What's with your skin, and why are your eyes like that, and why do you have those things sticking out of your head? Aren't you tall enough as it is?"
Moose “Of course you’re not Aisha. You’re not a tree.” Among many other things. She had to roll her eyes for that one with a little smile. Maybe this girl, Rhonann, was it?, was trying to play a big joke on her. “So you’re close? Wow, earthlings are short.” Had her grandfather been that small? Was this a normal size for them? There were so many questions! Her hands kept moving forward, though for a small moment they paused. “My skin is normal, my eyes are normal, annnnd those are antennae, also normal for Alkidikes.” Actually, the few things that weren’t normal about her hadn’t even been brought up, which was nice. Mnyiri couldn’t stand it anymore; she reached out to touch the little pink things on Rhonann’s forehead. She gave a little gasp, her expression lighting up like a lantern. “They’re so rough and smooth at the same time. Have they always been there? Is this what crystals look like? Are they all this color?”
Corny "....You named a tree?" Now Rhonann was really confused. Maybe this strange woman was a little unstable herself? Perhaps it would be best to walk away. "Earthlings? Am I an earthlings?" So much for walking away. "Alkidikes. Your an Alkidikes then." Though she wasn't too sure of the close quarters, her eyes crossed to follow the hands reaching for her forehead. "I.. think so? Color depends on where you're from." She knew that? ..Well, anyway, fair was fair. She reached out to touch the teal markings on the other's chin. "Do I call you Alkidikes, or something else?"
Moose "I didn't name her...I don't actually know who did, but she's a Goddess, so..." It was really an open ended statement. Who named Goddesses? That would have usually been the mothers, but if Aisha had a mother...Mnyiri had to stop, lest she give herself a migraine.
"You're an earthling, but I don't know what kind. Definitely not a shifter; your skin is too pinkish for that." Looking into the girls eyes was difficult, so Mnyiri had to bend her knees to lower herself. "My name is Mnyiri and I'm an Alkidike." Mostly. "You have a pretty color, so the place you're from most be pretty too, then." Her touch was finger like, and soft; intrusive, but not unkind. She didn't mind it when the other girl began to touch her markings. Fair is fair after all. "Why is it that you don't know what you are?"

The tree had a name because it was a goddess?! That was just too much for Rhonann to wrap her head around. Earthling, not earthlings... Singular. That made sense. Same for the other; alkidike, not alkidikes. "Mnyiri? That's nice." It was certainly an interesting name, and fun to say. Pretty? She was fairly certain she knew what that word meant, and the compliment put a warm feeling through her face. Her smile lifted briefly. “Thanks!”
When the topic of her unfortunate lack of understanding came up, she shook her head with an irritated huff. Surely there would be no harm in telling Mnyiri about her predicament? “I’d tell you if I could. I don’t actually know why I don’t know anything. I woke up like this not long ago. Some things I know, and some things I don’t.” She let her hands fall back to her sides. Those marking were just markings, not growths that stuck out like her own crystals. Interesting. A couple of Mnyiri’s brushes made Rhonann giggle. “So, you’ve never seen someone like me before?”

Mnyiri's usual energy presented itself in the near constant way that she moved. If it wasn't a tapping foot, then the young woman would sway from side to side, but her focus was almost always on Rhonann. She should have been terrified; after all, hadn't her mothers warned her about running into armed earthlings? And they were supposedly below Alkidikes, so why didn't it bother her more to talk to them? Granted, she was still finding it hard not to come off as condescending .
"Oh wow, so you have amnesia?" It was a rhetorical question, one that was spoken on a curious gasp. Now this was something worth studying. She could see how this female would react when meeting those of her own kind, and if she could document what would happen from here on out...Mnyiri bit her lower lip, unconsciously running her fingers over the crystals at this point. What should she do? She needed to find Ilyra, but...When Rhonann giggled Mnyiri smiled. "Nope, not like you. I've heard about some kind of like you, but not really. They live here in our territory; the shifters. They have crystals like you do, but they're different colors."
Finally, she pulled back and raised herself up to her full height. "I've got an idea; how about we travel together? I need to find my sister and you need to find...well, you. I can help teach you what I know and in exchange you'll let me observe you. " She clapped her hands and reached out for Rhonann's hands. "That sounds fair, right? I won't run any tests that you say no to, and I won't hold any information back from you. "

"I guess so?" There was no such thing as a rhetorical question for her... For a while, it was just fun to watch the inspection. Rhonann cocked her head as the various emotions went through Mnyiri's face and voice. Shifters... That sounded familiar, but not the right kind of familiar. She'd heard of them, but didn't know them. ..She knew she'd been around them before, but couldn't think of any description of how they looked...
Tipping her head back as the other female stood up, Rhonann's expression lit up happily. "That'd be great! I really have no idea where I'm going, so if you can get me there, wherver there is, I'l appreciate it a lot!" The idea of having a traveling companion, just the idea of it, made her feel more secure. She felt like she was used to traveling with others. While a little uncertain as to the extent of the supposed tests, finding who she was would surely be worth it in the end! "I'd say we have a deal!"

Mnyiri squealed and at the same time seemed to scrunch her whole body in before jumping for joy; which might have been problematic, since she was still holding onto Rhonann's hands. "This is better than great; it's fantastic! I'm going to learn so much just by helping you learn and then I can document it all to share with the others and oh but I need to learn how to write like an earthling, that will have to come after-" Mnyiri went off on a tangent, chattering on about things that very well might never happen.
At least she seemed to calm, but only enough to let go of one of Rhonann's hands before tugging on the other one. "Come on, I can take you back to my camp. I'll have to introduce you to Mvua so he doesn't try to attack you." If she bounced anymore than she already was, more than a few things were going to fall out of place. How many other sisters had gotten this close to a strange earthling to learn about them? To learn about their culture? She had an inside look!...well, once Rhonann remembered.

Though Rhonann had no understanding of why Mnyiri was so excited, she couldn't help laughing along with delight while she was yanked up onto her toes. Someone was this excited to travel with her, so why should she be upset? Mnyiri was listing a long list of things to be done, making Rhonann shake her head to keep it clear. She couldn't keep a straight thought with the Alkidike rambling on like that!
"What's a Mvua?" she asked quickly, legs moving quickly to keep up with Mnyiri's longer strides. "Is he an Alkidike like you? Is he gonna travel with us?"

"Mvua is a radaku; so he's a creature-thing, that runs on four paws and they usually live in packs, but he doesn't because he's got this alpha thing going on and he was beaten up by the others so now he's with me." Spectacularly, Mnyiri managed to say it all in one breath without even breaking her stride. She was so used to popping off facts left and right without pausing that it just came to her naturally. "So, yeah, he'll be traveling with us. So will Jioni and she's a sailscale. It'll be a lot easier to explain what they look like when we get there and you can just seem them for yourself."
Oooh, she had to be careful. If she traveled too far into Alkidike territory with Rhonann then they might get attacked. They would have to have a neutral place to stay, Mnyiri thought sagely. Some place she could leave Rhonann where she wouldn't wander off while Mnyiri asked around. Picking herself up over a fallen log, Mnyiri rounded one of the large, violet trees that covered Jauhar. It took a while to get around, but once she did her camp was within sight. "That's it! The blue thing is Jioni and the striped one is Mvua. You can pet her, but don't get too close to him until he comes to you. He's snappy."
The campsite was fairly normal for a traveling Alkidike; save for the mound of trinkets spewing out of several bulging satchels. A sailscale was curled up ontop of a stack of scrolls, looking particularly lazy while the radaku turned his snarling mug towards the two. "Oh come on Vu-vu, aren't you happy to see your bestest best fwiend?" The baby talk only seemed to annoy him more. Not that Mnyiri cared.

Rhonann was confused again. There had been a lot of information in those couple breaths, and she hadn't understood half of it. Well, seeing for herself would be better anyway. She looked around as they were going, though nothing held that feeling of familiar that she was hoping to get. So, she really wasn't from around here...
As the camp came into sight, she felt another bit of relief. It looked like a basic camp from what she could tell, and not filled with strangers. The two creatures resting made her squeak. She wasn't sure if her first instinct was wariness or delight, hands gripping her slingshot tightly, but they sure were interesting looking creatures. Watching Mnyiri attempt niceties with the radaku, she turned to Jioni and slowly walked forward, a mix of hesitation and simple respect of not jumping at her face. "Jioni? Mnyiri said I can pet you. Do you mind?" she asked, holding out a hand curiously.

Jioni seemed to take in the new two-legger with a curious glint to her eyes. She unfurled her wings, shifting them so she could be more comfortable around Rhonann before using the clawed tips to help push her up closer to Rhonann's hand. The creature made a sort of distorted chirrup, like a growl running through a pipe. It was meant to be pleasant, whatever the end result may have been. After a cursory sniff she leaned into the earthling's touch.
"Aww, see, she's nice when she's not being a butt." Mnyiri chuckled. "Jioni likes to fly up into the canopy to scavenge for fruits and nuts when I'm not around. So, naturally, she won't come when I call for her and we have to go track her down. Right, Vu-Vu?" The radaku turned his back on his mistress, curled up on a worn blanket and promptly ignored all three of the females. "...Fine, grumpy, be that way."
While Jioni made nice with Rhonann, Mnyiri moved onto one of her many packs. "What are you in the mood for? Some sort of stew, roasted stuff, or are you even hungry at all?" With her arms still buried to the elbow in her pack, she looked over her shoulder at Rhonann.

Rhonann clamped her teeth shut, excited to see what the creature would do. She had no idea what the noise meant, unable to tell if it was threatening or friendly, so she remained standing still. It was a great relief to see Jioni press up nicely against her hand. "Aww! I like you, too, Jioni," she crooned, stroking along the sailscale's head.
The mention of food immediately caught her attention, straightening her back quickly to look over at Mnyiri. "Whatever you have! I was trying to find food when I- ..um, ran into you." Giggling, she walked over to see what the Alkidike was doing. "Would you like help?"

Mnyiri wiggled her tush and with a big grin, dove back into her satchel. She rooted around the various trinkets and doo dads, spices and herbs, until surfacing with an arm full. "If you know how to make a fire, that would be great. I've got a pot I'm going to make some soup in; it's pretty filling, so that way if we don't find food for a while we'll be fine." Of course, Mnyiri had to laugh at her own joke. "As if we wouldn't be able to find food out here...it's everywhere!"
A lone fruit fell from her arms and as swiftly as it fell she kicked it back up into her arms after bouncing it on the heel of her boot. "I'll tell you now; I don't eat meat, but if you catch it I'll help you cook it."
Jioni seemed pleased by this addition to their group, and showed her affection by continuing to make little noises for Rhonann.

Rhonann looked around briefly. Make a fire. She thought she knew how to make a fire... Mnyiri's tease wasn't understood at first, and Rhonann groaned. How long might they have to go without food?! Oh, Mnyiri was laughing. It was a tease. "Is your whole home filled with food?" she asked curiously. Something made her feel like having a consistent source of food wasn't normal, but Mnyiri seemed to think it was.
"I think I do eat meat?" That sounded right. Meanwhile, she turned to start collecting firewood, pausing to give Jioni a few head pats and to coo softly to her.

Cornetified Wrap it up in the next post? :O "Pretty much, if you know where to look." She emptied her arm load onto the ground next to the fire pit. After producing a little knife from her pack she started slicing and dicing the various fruits and roots infront of her. Once they were at a suitable size she dropped them into an older, but sturdy, pot.
"Most people do eat meat, so that's not surprising. You can borrow my spear if you don't think you can take down anything with that...that sling thing of yours."
Giving your weapon to a stranger was probably the most naive thing one could do, but something about Rhonann made Mnyiri trust her. Besides, Mnyiri was confident she could wrestle it away from the earthling if things got nasty.
All in all, she felt pretty confident about this traveling together thing. It seemed promising, and Mnyiri always liked company!

Rhonann looked down at the slingshot looped at her hip, feeling a little indignant at having her weapon called a thing. ..She wasn't sure why though, so she smiled and waved a hand. "I caught you with it~" she said playfully as she turned to see about catching some food. She glanced at the big spear briefly, but quickly discarded the idea. She had no idea how to use that...
It was a relief to have a traveling companion. Someone who knew the area. Someone who could watch her back while she watched theirs. Someone.. someone she felt like she could count on to get her through this trying and uncertain time.
