Character name: Lux
Entry: It had surprised her that the theft discussion wasn't open and shut. Apparently there were students who, while not in favor of legalizing theft bar none, believed it might be prudent to have conditions. She had the distinct feeling it was more as a caveat to not waste their time than a real belief in legal theft. That only irritated the chimera.
"The laws as they are, aren't perfect," Lux began, "but do you really want to qualify them by insisting that only objects over a certain monetary value are considered theft?" A few blank stares greeted her question and she paused to find a proper analogy.
"Let's say someone is drunk and driving; let's say they get pulled over. Do you really want to argue that they shouldn't be charged
just because no one was injured? What happens when, not if, that person does injure or kill someone? No one's going to feel the urge to say, 'well they should've charged them the
first time'?" She took a breath, "Theft is illegal for a reason and while I don't believe we should be throwing a kid who stole some food for their starving family into jail for ten years, I also don't believe we should legalize it and allow it. The law might be printed in black and white but there's a lot of gray in the real world."
She leaned back in her seat, hoping they had a clearer idea of what they were implying and where she stood in the matter. And if they didn't, she'd argue until they had laryngitis.
