While having her afternoon snack, Melody overheard several other trainees discussing "training". It dawned on her that perhaps she should be doing this as well. She wasn't entirely sure what that entailed though.
After finishing off her tea, she rolled her map out across the cafeteria table and after taking several moments to locate where she was on the map and how to get to "Training Fields", rolled it back up and set out.
Whisper wasn't so sure this was a good idea, but whatever his madame desired...

Roland had his fill with Twitter, honestly he felt a bit bad as some people pointed out how wrong it was he favored this version of Rep over the real one, it was a shity thing to say and he had to admit that. Still, it was nice not seeing him yelling and harassing people.
Eventually he found himself passing through the training field stopping as he spoted a girl who looked decidedly out of place in the area. "Hey um, are you lost?" he moved closer to Melody his hand stuffed in his pockets with his white coat pulled back.
"Didn't anyone get you a coat yet? You really shouldn't be out here in something like that."

Melody turned her head to follow the new voice. "Ah." She waved at him enthusiastically. "I am looking for something called Training Fields. I heard that I am meant to train."
She perked up at the mention of a coat, "We get free coats too? I must have missed that somewhere in all these pamphlets." She gently tapped her chin thoughtfully before turning to smile at him brightly, "I hope mine is cute."

Roland slowly tugged a hand out of his jacket waving back, his head cocked to the side. "Well you're in the right place, but again you look like you might wana change before you start."
He nodded tugging at the white jacket he wore, "Hunters are all issued jackets, though uhhh might not be your style since we usually run white with gold details." His own coat was lined with rolling clouds of gold indicating MIst division. The added length, pockets, and such possibly a higher rank?
"You'll be able to order one later that suits your taste but for now they just kinda hand you one that fits." Even as he spoke he pulled out a pair of gloves tugging them onto his hands before flexing his fingers.
"So whats your name miss? You must be a Hatchling if you're not rocking the jacket yet."

"Melody," she answered, tucking the map away in a small black purse that hung down by her waist.
"Why should I need to change? I like how I dress - OH! Did I spill something?!" She began checking herself over for any stains or signs of dirt. She did just get here from lunch after all. White with gold?! How... garish. She couldn't hide the cringe she had made.

"Roland Taft," he said before offering a polite little bow.
"The reason you might want to change," he said as he drew a hand out to his side, the twisting shape of Sylvia appearing as the great scythe appeared from thin air.
"Is because the training grounds you're at are for sparing matches."

Melody curtseyed in turn and held her hand out to him. The offered hand was quickly retracted at the sudden arrival of a weapon.
"Sparing? A lady does not spar," she spat the word as if it were some filthy deplorable word associated with something equally as bad.

Roland moved slowly planting the head larger end of the scythes tip into the dirt resting against the shaft of the twisted weapon as she retracted her hand.
"A lady is going to learn to spar, and a lady is going to learn how to fight. I don't know what they told you when you joined up, but we fight, a lot." One hand reached out to her gesturing to come at him.
"Focus on the voice in your head, let it out, it's hard to explain but you'll get more comfortable with it as you go. Your weapon can also appear in self defense, but most folks would rather not force you to summon your weapon."

"I only fight when necessary." She crossed her arms defensively, "This is not necessary."
"Voice?" she parroted uncertainly before with a sudden 'ah' she realized what he may have been insinuating. "If you mean my weapon. Whisper is quite silent right now, I assure you.

"So you plan to only fight when a monster twice my size or with more blades and magic then I could ever use decides to make a snack out of you?" He shook his head, "Really bad idea, sparing now will save your life later when you have to fight."
Roland nodded as she made the realization tapping gently at the side of his forehead with his free hand, "They can do that, you can try to ignore them too. Right now though, Sylvia wants to see your weapon." He paused, "She likes your dress by the way as well."

"Sylvia has great taste," Melody boasted cheerfully.
"Whisper is still very quiet. I feel him watching but he seems... disinterested?" Her arms uncrossed to shrug, "sorry but... yeah? If I can avoid a fight then that is the best course of action, isn't it? I fail to see your reasoning to just attack. We are humans, not animals."

Roland chuckled a bit, "She's smiling, or at least something akin to it, she's a sucker for compliments." He shifted a bit standing up straighter but still leaning on the weapon as they spoke.
"They're like people, some are quiet, some our loud. It depends on each of them." Again she shrugged and Roland shook his head, "Nope. Not acceptable, almost all of our missions result in combat against monsters. Reasoning with a horsemen? Zero chance. A halloween creature? Fifty-Fifty. Still not the best odds."

"Well, no wonder she is also very pretty," Melody gestured at the weapon's form. "Alas I was not blessed with something so... mobile." Melody frowned as that only elicited a small, distant grumble out of her bonded.
"No one said anything about reasoning, just not outright... punching them, or whatever."

"She's thrilled you think that but I'm objecting at the mobile part. Scythes have sweet spots. Its not a sword where the whole edge is deadly. Though she has a few tricks to help with that." He let the last statement hang in the air as they spoke.
"Reasoning... Isn't usually on the table. If you meet one alone outside of a mission maybe. During missions its not so safe usually they're going after us and us after them. Peace is uh. Not something most hunters would seek. Better them dead and us alive and all that."

"Again, I never said anything about reasoning. You did. You do realize the world is more than A or B, right?" an eyebrow shot up inquiringly.
