When her mother went to bed for the night the young Alkidke decided that she would give crafting another go. What could it hurt? There was something about the determination to get something done right that was driving her. Not to mention the general frustration about failing on more than one occasion was almost unbearable. “I can do this..” Ariya spoke aloud to herself to give some encouragement. Although at the moment she was seriously starting to doubt that she would be able to make even the simplest of things. So she sat at her table quietly with another sun bleached rock from the beach and drew a beautiful design upon it's surface. Why she had decided that she wanted to try etching into the hard stone again was beyond her.
Soon enough the image of a rune was set into place and she admired it to make sure every line was in place. There was a small nod of her head and then she picked up her etching tool and set to work. Since she wouldn't have to worry about her mother surprising her again she seemed to work with confidence. That was until the stone decided that it didn't want to be made into anything other than a rock. The smooth surface broke, splintering down the middle and flaking, making the thing useless for what Ariya had in mind. Holding her hand just above it for a moment she could only stare at it with disbelief. “Apparently I need a stronger rock.” Which was just as well, she thought. If what the Blade suspected was true about the symbol she kept wanting to carve then a weak rock wouldn't do at all. “I guess I'll have to find another.” Her etching tool was placed on the table and she sighed before she got up and went to leave the house. More rocks would be needed if she kept messing up all the time.
