Etched onto the nameplate of the door before you is the name "
Marque L. Monroe."A mere glance into the room is all it takes for one to quickly notice how... clean it is. The room has monotone white walls offset only by the monotone black of the furniture, doors, and surfaces contained within it. Perhaps "sterile," rather than "clean" would be a better word to describe it. It takes only seconds to notice how quiet it is inside and, quite literally, seconds later for an ominous ticking to reach the ears and quickly etch itself deep into the mind.
Stepping inside takes you to the top of three steps in the bottom left corner of the small room, isolated by a half wall directly to the right. Taking the three steps down, you come to a door on the left which opens into the bathroom. A peek inside reveals it to be as sterile, if not more, as what you've seen the room so far. Everything within is monotone white aside from the surface of the sink, the mirror, and the shower curtain.
At the bottom, you quickly locate the source of that infernal ticking. A large grandfather clock is positioned in front of a small coffee table surrounded by a sofa and two recliners. To the left of the grandfather clock, sunlight streams through a window. The floor here is covered in black carpeting, but aside from that, furniture and color is rather scarce.
Taking a right around the half wall, the floor shifts from black carpeting to white tile as you enter a small kitchen area. The theme of white offset by black furniture and surfaces continues here. In the back of this area sits cabinets, a refrigerator, the sink, the stove, and the oven. A counter separates the cooking area from the dining area which consists of a small round table and dining chairs. Sitting at the very center of the table is a black cat doll. Feeling uncomfortable in the sterile environment, you're glad to break free of the black and white theme as you spot the green ribbon tied in a bow near the end of the doll's tail. As you approach, you rethink you prior assessment as the "doll" stirs, eyelids open to reveal green orbs that look at you momentarily before the creature gets up to stretch. Large black bat-like wings unfold briefly from the otherwise cat-like creature before it resumes its resting position atop the table.
Heading back to the living area, you decide to look into the final room located to the top left. Again, the room is scarcely furnished, aside from light fixtures, it holds only a dresser, mirror, bed, and nightstand. Although, unlike the other rooms, there is a single decorative feature here. A small elegantly carved brown box sits atop the nightstand beside the bed. Opening the box causes a melancholy tune to begin playing, cutting through the ticking that had ingrained itself into your mind by now. With nothing but said ticking to accompany the tune, however, it sounds rather ominous. Contained within the box is a single black gemstone in the shape of a tear. You quickly close the box and decide that since no one's here, it's best that you leave and come back another time.
As the door closes behind you. the only thing on your mind is that infernal ticking sound... tick, tick, tick, tick, tick...
