Once upon a time, thousands of years ago...
A mother polar bear and her two cubs were traveling across the Arctic tundra during a blizzard. As the three traveled, a lost shaman stumbled upon them. At first, the mother bear remained on guard around the woman because humans were always violent creatures who killed polar bears and their cubs. However, as the shaman kept her distance as she followed them for several days, the mother bear became less tense, but never did she lower her guard.
One day, as the blizzard began to pass, the mother bear and her cubs caught a seal to eat. It had been many, many days since either the bears or the woman had eaten, and so when the mother bear caught the seal, she and her cubs gorged themselves on the animal until they could no longer strip the meat off the carcass. The shaman took this opportunity to approach the carcass and pick off the remaining meat.
At this moment, the mother bear never reacted less than aggressive around the shaman, but for this brief moment in time, she allowed the human to eat from the carcass. And eat. And eat some more. The mother bear allowed her to eat until she picked the meat and fat clean off the bones. Then she and her cubs began walking again with the shaman following much closer behind them.
Soon, the blizzard passed and the group neared a sleepy little village nestled in the tundra. Overjoyed, the shaman thanked the mother bear and her cubs for their kindness before parting ways.
For several days, the shaman rested in the sleepy village, exchanging trinkets for food and board. The shaman knew from simply looking at this village that if they knew of her magic, they would kill her for the fear of the unknown caused the deaths of many innocents. And she managed to keep her secret until the last day when an innocent child from the inn spotted her using magic to mend her clothing. After telling his mother, who told her husband and the other villagers. Gathering in a mob, the villagers moved to kill the shaman who ran into the tundra.
While the shaman was in the village, the mother bear and her cubs remained nearby in a snow den they dug out themselves because another blizzard had passed through, worse than the previous one, and trapped the bears in their den. On the night when the mob gathered, the blizzard had reached its lowest point, allowing the bears to take a break from their den. The mother bear and her cubs were hunting in the ice when the shaman stumbled nearby, chased by the mob. As the mob gathered around the fallen shaman, the mother bear suddenly charged at the mob. With the aide of her cubs, the mother bear defended the shaman until the mob dispersed.
Amazed by the will of the mother bear and her cubs, the shaman could only gape in awe. Then an idea came to mind. Pulling out her supplies, the shaman blessed the mother bear and her cubs with a spell.
The night sky danced with the most brilliant colors as they and the arctic wind wrapped around the bears and then vanished without a trace. In their wake, three nude humans, a mother and her two children. Kneeling, the shaman quickly dressed the three and taught them human tongue. She taught them human customs and human dress. Most of all, she taught them that only bears such as themselves could transform, if they proved to be as kind and selfless as the mother bear. All their descendants would be blessed as well, so long as the Spirits allowed it.
And so is the story of how the First Queen of the Polar Bears and the Kingdom of Ice came to pass.

Royals & Nobles: Character Profiles
Name: Bear name: Age: Gender: Sexual Orientation: Rank: Prince(ss), King, Queen, Lord, Lady Powers: Other: Appearance: Bio/Personality:
Name: Nanuq. Bear Name: A series of deep rumbled growls, which mean 'Strength enough to crack mountains beneath his paws and Kingdoms beneath his feet.' Age: 30 y/o man to a much older human. Gender: Male. Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual. Rank: King. Powers: He is a polar bear who can shift into a human. A cold breeze follows him wherever he goes. Other: He lacks the ability to care for others, so he has no qualms with killing others. Appearance: A huge, handsome specimen, both as a human and as a polar bear. His skin is a darker honey-brown than his son, Armel, but his hair and eyes are the same. He has several scars around his body, whether they are from fights or romantic encounters, he keeps you guessing. If it wasn't for the perpetual sneer on his face, he would look even more handsome than he already is. Bio/Personality: Nanuq was born into an old family of polar bears from the North American territories. Upon meeting Bera, one of the princesses from the royal family, he wasted no time in gaining her favor and taking her to bed. The two of them have an agreement to gain as much power as possible, including attaining the throne. When the opportunity came to fight for the throne, Nanuq knew he could win, and he did without a doubt. He had no qualms with killing Bera's brothers and nephews to gain the throne. His apathetic nature makes him suitable to be Bera's mate, though it also makes him unsuitable to be a faithful mate and a father, but Bera is just the same. Fidelity only matters to them both when it comes to mating season. Otherwise, they live two separate lives of tyranny.
Name: Bera. Bear name: A series of gentle sounds and grunts that mean, 'Sweet nightingale that sings beneath the stars'. Age: 28 y/o woman to an older woman. Gender: Female. Sexual Orientation: Pansexual. Rank: Queen. Powers: She can transform into a human and has a cold breeze follow her around. Other: Born into the second-longest reigning family to hold the throne since the First Queen, Bera views herself as more evolved than the commoners and even other nobility. Appearance: Bera is heavy-set, but she's all muscle and strength. She has curly blond hair that falls like a curtain of water. Her skin is the color of a mother-of-pearl, completely flawless. Her eyes are the color of sapphires. Bio/Personality: Arrogant beyond what is normal, for even a snobby noble, Bera has been raised in the lap of luxury and with a sense that she is higher above than other bears. Bera only wants the strongest surrounding her, and she, without hesitation, will kill those who are not the strongest. So, when she met Nanuq, she could see his strength and he lusted after her. It didn't take long for her to manipulate him into taking the lead in their relationship. Then, when her parents announced the battle royal for their abdication, she did not fret that Nanuq could possibly die because, if he did, she would simply kill the mate of the bear who would win the throne and become queen herself.
Name: Eden. Bear name: Several soft grunts and snorts that mean, 'Petal blossoms fall before her paws'. Age: 13 (as a bear) 20 (as a human). Gender: Female. Sexual Orientation: Homosexual. Rank: First Princess. Powers: She can transform into a human and has a cold breeze follow her around. Appearance: She is a mix between her mother and paternal grandmother in facial features. However, she is more muscular and warrior-like than either females she takes after. Her long, blonde hair is kept in a loose braid hanging down to her feet. She does not wear jewelry or makeup. She always has a serve look of disdain on her face wherever she goes. Other: Eden has no interest in males and can always be found surrounded by her all-female guard wherever she goes. Her refusal to take on a husband, even when he won the right to her hand, irks her parents. She is the one pawn that does not obey their will. Eden usually stays away from the court, preferring to live on the ice as a bear. Bio/Personality: Born as the eldest cub and daughter of Bera and Nanuq, before they became the queen and king of the polar bears. From the start of her life, Eden understood her parents were cruel and vile creatures not fit to raise cubs, let alone rule an entire kingdom. She tried to play the good and devoted daughter, humble and docile, but as her brothers became more and more violent and as she was discovering her sexuality, she realized she could not be the princess her family wanted, so she ran away. As soon as she could, Eden gathered the few female guards who were willing to follow her, not come with her because they were told to, and left the kingdom. At the time, her grandparents ruled as king and queen, and they had no interest either way of her choice in life. They found it more amusing how angry her parents became at her actions. Eden has lived mostly on the tundra since then, only visiting occasionally to see how her sisters and their cubs are doing. She doesn't let it on that she cares about her sisters because she knows the slightest hint of love will mark the end of their lives as they knew them.
Name: Armel. Bear names: The name his parents gave him: A long series of growls and grunts that mean, 'Obedient servant who bends to the Forces of Nature and worships his Sovereigns'. The resulting nickname of this name is 'Obedient servant'. The name Annabelle gave him: A short series of soft whines and growls that mean, 'He whose laughter commands the sun to shine'. ("When you smile, it's like a refreshing breeze. When you laugh, it's like the sun appearing after a sudden summer storm. It is a wish on my part that you will one day find happiness." -Annabelle) The resulting nickname from this name is 'Sunshine'. Age: 2 years (as a bear) and 5 (as a human) up to his current age. Gender: Male. Rank: Prince/Royal Guard. Sexual Orientation: Pansexual demiromantic. Powers: Armel transforms from a polar bear into a human and has a slight cold chill follow his every movement. Other: He is a warrior and excels in hand-to-hand combat, long- and short-range weaponry, and diplomatic skills. Appearance: A honey-brown skinned boy with straight, bright yellow hair and cold, gold eyes. Never smiles, never gives much of a facial expression. Bio/Personality: Armel was born in November 1995 in the Siberian tundra. His mother was a traditionalist when it came to many customs, including pregnancy. She only gave birth as polar bears naturally did, so no exact date for his birth is known. Armel obeys his parents with an eerie sort of obedience not seen in most cubs in age. He doesn't speak of his siblings unless asked, and the answers he gives are vague. He seems to hold no love for anyone, even himself. Silent, quiet like a mouse. He prefers to observe his surroundings before acting. He obeys his parents and anyone who has authority over them because his parents gave them that authority. When he speaks, it is only after weighing in the pros and cons of it. Nothing is said without a meaning.
Name: Amaya Bear Name: A few soft sounds, followed by a gentle snort, meaning, "Beautiful as home, and precious as ice." Age: Bear: Newborn to young adult in course of rp Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Rank: Nobel families daughter ----> future Queen Powers: Can transform from human form to large polar bear. Always accompanied by a chill in the air Other: N/A Appearance: As a bear she grows up to have a strong but elegant appearance, as a human and dignified looking blond with an icy-blue stare. Bio/Personality:As a child Amaya is curious but cautious. As an adult, Amaya is usually diplomatic, if not a bit cold. However she can have a sharp temper if crossed and demands respect for her kind as their leader. She also detests weak males, however she has a soft spot for females and children.
She is rarely seen in her bear form when not around her kind (then she uses it almost exclusively). She has great pride in it, but finds in inconvenient not to be able to communicate outside her species when speaking to others.
Name: Abigail Bear Name: A musical name, a mix of low and hight pitched rumbles, meaning, "Born to wealth, born to beauty." Age: Young adult to older woman over course of rp Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: No longer interested in love, but will entertain romance to further her position and standing for the sake of her daughter. Rank: Noble bear, Amaya's Mother Powers: Can transform from human form to large polar bear. Always accompanied by a chill in the air. Other: Nope! Appearance: A smaller female bear with a brutal scar across one half of her face, the other half being very youthful and expressive. Bio/Personality: Abigail has had to make sacrifices her whole life. Used as a chip by her parents to gain a higher standing, she was forced into a courtship with a very aggressive male bear. Her heart never belonged to him, despite him creating her precious daughter with her. Once docile and agreeable towards her mate even in his anger, she began to lash out and retaliate when his aggression turned towards their cub. One day, when protecting Amaya from him she ended up killing him in a vicious battle, which earned her the nasty scar on her face.
She has since been seen as a more valuable commodity among the bears, who value strength. While her scars make her somewhat of a nasty thing to look at form one side, they prove she is strong and a viciously protective mother. Her daughter is what matters most to her in the world, not herself or her people or the kingdom.

Name: Miguel Bear Name: A loud long roar meaning, "A bear with a big family and yet none." (given to him by the Kitchen staff when he was found) Age: Young child to older teen/young adult in course of rp Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Appearance: A teenager with rich dark skin and full head of wavy blond hair, very handsome. As a bear he is actually quite strong looking and large, uncommon for one in his status. Rank: Food gatherer/kitchen worker and other odd chores Other: His mother was a beautiful woman so he was told, she died before he was born, and he was inherited by all the kitchen people who his mother worked with and considers all the the service staff his family. Her mother, and her parents before her, and so on and so forth were the products of affairs, very rarely anything else. Justine grew up being taught this and understanding her place in the society of the polar bears. She sees herself as no different than her mother and the others, with the exception that she renders those she beds helpless beneath her, but that's when she's all grown up. As a child, she is obedient and silent to the nobles, doing as she's told and learning what she needs to so she may serve the crown. It is surviving that's the top priority on her list of things to do, and she excels at it. Justine finds great joy in messing with Prince Armel because, try as she might, she can always read his expressionless face; that, and she knows the last thing Armel ever wants to do is draw attention to himself, so he never mentions her bullying to his parents or other adults.

Non-role player characters (NPCs)
Name: Bear name: Appearance: Includes approximate age. Rank: Other:
Name:Orson Bear name: Four long grunts and growls that mean, 'Large as a mountain and as powerful as a roaring river'. Appearance: 65 (as a human). He is tall, muscular, wavy blond hair always kept in a loose braid. Rich, dark brown skin; one gold eye, one blue eye, and a handsome face. Rank: Former king. Other: Unlike his cubs, he has a more faithful relationship with his mate because it's too much trouble to go after females like he used to in his early youth. After the battle royal where he and his mate, Ursula, pit their sons, nephews, and others against each other, Orson retired to Canada with his mate and their younger cubs to live out the rest of their lives.
Name: Ursula. Bear name: Several soft growls that mean, 'Small dove that sleeps peacefully'. Appearance: 67 (as a human), tiny as a human and a bear, but mighty powerful beneath the exterior. She has dark honey brown skin and golden eyes said to shine like the sun. Her straight blonde hair is kept in a neat braid. Rank: Former queen. Other: In a faithful relationship with her mate, Ursula happily left the royal court with her younger cubs to live in Canada. Many would believe it was her idea to leave the court, after seeing how twisted it made her older cubs, but in truth, it was Orson's idea and she could use the change.
Name: Annabelle. Bear name: A short snort that mean, 'Vicious seal'. Appearance: 30 (as a human), a heavy-set build and hands that have years' worth of callouses. Her skin is pitch black and her eyes are a bright gold. Her long blonde hair hangs in loose ringlets, making her a pretty picture for many nobles, male and female alike. Her full lips are the color of blood, making them tempting to kiss. As a polar bear, she hulks over many males. Rank: Maid. Other: She knows how to play in the games of the nobles and enjoys how they fall into her traps, but call it her family lineage. Annabelle comes from a long line of illegitimate children of the nobles, and she really doesn't care about her blood relationship to any of the nobles she beds.
Name: Dov. Bear name: A short series of growls that mean, 'He who slays all before him'. Appearance: 13 (as a bear), 20 (as a human). The spitting image of his grandfather, Orson: He is handsome, tall, and muscular. He has wavy blond hair, but he keeps his close-cut. He rich, dark brown skin like his grandfather. Both of his eyes are blue. Rank: First prince. Other: Born in a litter with Gerben and Eden, he is self-important and vicious. Dov enjoys personally causing physical harm to others, specially his younger siblings. The only bear he respects in his age is his brother Gerben because only he is as strong as Dov. He has little love or care for his wife and two mistresses, often beating them into submission if they do not do what he says.
Name: Gerben. Bear name: A long series of snarls that mean, 'Stubborn as an angry badger'. Appearance: 13 (as a bear) and 20 (as a human). Gerben looks more like his paternal grandfather, which is to say, like his father, except his nose is more rounded than his father's or grandfather's. He has pale brown skin along with a large, muscular frame. He has thick, coarse blond hair kept short. His blue eyes never show a hint of mercy in them. Rank: Second prince. Other: Born in a litter with Dov and Eden, Gerben knows no limitations, which makes him all the more dangerous. If he could, he would surround himself with the most beautiful bears in the kingdom and have them serve him with as much awe as they would for a god. He only respects his brother Dov among his age-mates while holding great disdain for their sister Eden. He hasn't chosen a bride yet because none of the females he has seen have lived up to his standard of beauty.
Name: Otso. Bear name: Two long sighs that mean, 'Blood-filled rivers'. Appearance: 11 (as a bear) 17 (as a human). Otso is a mixture of his father and mother, with his mother's hair and skin color, but his father's nose and strong chin. He, like his siblings before him, is tall and muscular, as strong as any prince. Like his grandfather, one of his eyes is blue while the other is gold. Rank: Third prince. Other: Otso was born in a litter containing himself and his sister Snæbjörn. He is more of a follower than an leader, but he is capable of the same cruelty as his two older brothers. He has a better relationship with Snæbjörn than Dov and Gerben do with Eden.
Name: Snæbjörn. Bear name: Three low growls that mean, 'Little bear who is perfection'. Appearance: 11 (as a bear) 17 (as a human). Named snow bear after her bright white fur, Snæbjörn is the picture-perfect princess with honey-brown skin, dainty features and a dainty body. Her ice-blue eyes only make her look more stunning than she already is. She is the submissive version of Bera in terms of appearance and actions. Rank: Second princess. Other: Littermate of Otso, Snæbjörn is often believed to be older than her brother because of her calm and serene nature. However, it's simply the training of her mother than has shaped her into what she is today. Snæbjörn has a mate twice her age and three litters of cubs. She is content with a life of a trophy princess with all the jewels and riches she could hope for.
Name: Nita. Bear name: A quick burst of noises that mean, 'Quick as a fox, smarter than a crow'. Appearance: 9 (as a bear) and 16 (as a human). Nita is small due to his age, but he is expected to grow as large as his three older brothers. He has curly, white-blond hair that hangs down his back and charcoal-brown skin covering his muscular frame. He looks a great deal like his mother, but as he grows, he'll look more masculine. Rank: Fourth prince. Other: Nita was born in a litter with his sister Sapata. He is a small-minded bear, not one for thinking. He only does as his parents or older siblings tell him. However, he believes himself to be above other bears, even nobles. He enjoys picking on the weak and can't wait until he is given a weak female for his bride.
Name: Sapata. Bear name: A long growl that means, 'Humble swan'. Appearance: 9 (as a bear) and 16 (as a human). Sapata is also small because of her age, but she is still larger than Nita. She looks like Bera, except more of an expressionless version of the queen. Her straight, white hair hangs in loose braids down her back and her large frame is hidden by well-made clothing. Her bright gold-brown eyes are often hidden by her long, veil of hair. Rank: Third princess. Other: Sapata is the littermate of Nita, but she isn't as dimwitted as her brother. She understands her role as her parents' chess-piece and accepts it. Already, she has a mate and two litters of cubs. Sapata is content with living her life for her parents because she knows she has no way out of it.
Name: MacMahon Bear name: A few short growls that mean, 'Massive paws leave vast valleys'. Appearance: 6 (as a bear), 13 (as a human). He has pure white hair and pale brown skin. His eyes are a light gold color, making him a ghostly bear. Though he is small, he continues to show signs of becoming a large bear like his father. Rank: Fifth prince. Other: The only cub in his litter, MacMahon had all of his mother's attention, so he is especially trained by her in the ways of a noble bear. He will not follow anyone's orders except for hers and Nanuq. He looks down upon Armel, thinking his younger brother a weakling from a weak litter.
Name: Dmitri. Bear name: A short grunt that mean, 'Tranquil lake'. Appearance: 3 (as a bear), 6 (as a human). Sepia/russet brown skin, covered in freckles. He has short, kinky blond hair with a red fringe. Dark gold eyes. Short and muscular. Rank: Cub/Apprentice chief (later on, chief). Other: Littermate of Justine, though whether they have the same father is debatable. Just wants to live a peaceful life as a chief.

Shot and muscular. Rank: Cub/Seamstress apprentice (later on, seamstress). Other: Litter mate of Justine, probably doesn't have the same father as her two siblings, or any of her older and younger siblings. Aims to be a favored mistress of one of the nobles.
Name: Jonathan Bear name: Several growls that mean, 'He who does not yield to the wind of injustice or falsehoods'. Appearance: 3 (as a bear) to grown adult. Light brown skin, course, textured blond hair often kept short, and gray-blue eyes. Muscular and agile because he is a trained guard. Rank: Guard apprentice. Other: An age-mate of Justine and her siblings, he's had his eye on Collette since they first met. He doesn't like nobles, but serves as a guard because his family always served as guards. He especially hates Armel, believes the young prince will be the ruin of Collette and her family's lives.
Name: Arcadius Bear name: A vicious snarl meaning, "All kneel before his jaws, and they kneel their last." Appearance: bear age: 10 human age: 58 He is a tall and wide bear and man, but not very attractive. He is gruff and angry looking most of the time, and covered in scars. "...and let the battle royal begin."
When Nanuq heard those words, his muscles flexed with adrenaline already coursing through them. He shot a quick look in Bera's direction, the stunning bear he had a claim on. Of course he caught the eyes of a few of his female toys in the croud as well, but for the moment his eyes were for her. She represented all he would win in this battle. The crown.
With a mighty roar he charged into the throng of angry bears, and batted a mighty long clawed paw across one of their faces, , then reared onto his hind legs above another. He was probably the biggest and certainly the strongest opponents here. And he was going to win. He knew this, just as he knew he was a polar bear. He had fought and schemed and maneuvered and manipulated his whole life to get this chance, and he would slay anyone who stood in his way.
His massive weight crashed down on the bear below him, and he carefully maneuvered a paw over the other males windpipe, crushing it. He felt a ripping in his flank and turned to see another bear sinking their long teeth into the fur on his back. He kicked out with a back leg and growled angrily, kicking out with his back leg and nailing the other bear in chest, who gasped and let go. A swift bit to the bear's leg, teeth sinking in deep, and judging by his roar of agony, he wasn't getting up anytime soon.
It continued on like that few what felt like second until Nanuq turned around to find another opponent and there were none. Some injured bears had left the battle zone, some lay on the ground, and others were dead. Nanuq was cut up and bruised, but he barely felt it. Standing to his hind legs he roared in triumph. As he had always known he would be, he was the king!
Abigail watched as her mate received a very vicious bit to his leg from Nanuq and winced. Now he was going to be bitter and in pain for a while, something she was not going to enjoy. She let him lay there however. She knew if she rushed to help him, she would shame him. And besides, she didn't really want to. Let him lay there and suffer for a change.
It wasn't until she heard a thundering roar that she drew her eyes from her injured mate. Nanuq's massive form stood on hind legs and proclaimed his victory to the bear. Abigail couldn't really care less who was in charge as king, but she found she was not very pleased it was him.
Miguel's tiny form peered out from behind the legs of the bigger bears. He didn't know what any of this meant, all he knew was that the food gatherers who raised him had been in a tizzy all morning about it.

Bera let Nanuq gaze at her, she bathed in his shallowness and brutality. And she adored his strength. Watching him kill the other bears, some her brothers, others the mates of her sisters, and others still her own nephews. Their blood stained the snow red, the snow soaking it all up like a sponge. The color of blood was the prettiest color of them all. If she could, she would have a thousand gowns the exact color of red.
Bera was so lost in her thoughts that she completely missed the battle before her, but it wasn't like she missed anything important because Nanuq came out as the royal's winner, just as she always knew he would. She only chose the strongest to stand by her side, and Nanuq was the strongest.
Lifting her muzzle, Bera bellowed loudly, adding her voice to that of her mate's in celebration of his victory, before lumbering over to him on her paws. Nudging his shoulder with her shoulder, Bera licked Nanuq's cheek, savoring the taste of blood dripping from his lips. "You did well, my Nanuq. Now you are king, and I, your queen," she cooed to him, feeding his ego. "You have proven to me that you are, once again, the strongest polar bear in the kingdom. All others pale in comparison to your mighty strength and intelligence." And now she would rule over all bears in her kingdom and continue on her family's reign over them.
Humbert stood guard with his father and the other guards and their apprentices. The vicious display of power set before them certainly spoke volumes about the bears they swore to protect. To think if a bear tried to attack the new king or queen without a formal challenge, mayhem like this would occur on a daily basis.
Glancing around the ice cavern, Hum saw the former king and queen—with their juvenile cubs—were already gone. They had not stayed to watch the havoc they created. Pity.
Annabelle had left the tundra early with her three young cubs to observe the royal couples' announcement because they rarely made an announcement. And she was not disappointed. However, she was disappointed to see some of her favorite lovers lying dead or dying on the ground. She wondered if any of them were the fathers of her cubs. In the end, it didn't matter because her cubs would come to understand blood ties meant nothing in their kingdom. Only power mattered, and only power they should seek, or avoid.
Turning around, Annabelle left the snow cavern and took her cubs back out on the tundra to finish rearing them as their ancestors did. Hopefully, this display of violence would serve as a good lesson for her cubs.

Nanuq noticed nothing as he proclaimed his triumph, save for the roar that joined his own. He was glad she was glad, as she should be. Just as he deserved the rule, Bera did too. She was bred with fine blood flowing through her family line, she was politically smart and vicious, and she looked particularly delicious draped in grown and jewels which only their high status could afford. And it was him she had to thank for it.
So as she sucked up to him, proclaiming his strength a power he soaked it up like a sponge. He was the King. He was the strongest and the smartest. He growled pleasantly in response to her, and playfully nipped at the fur at her shoulder. "And that is why you're my Queen." He returned a compliment, then turned his head to the entrance to the ice caves where they lived. "Shall we go survey our thrones?"
Abigail slowly made her way over to her mate finally, as the crowd began to disperse. If she left her mate there without trying to repair his ego for any longer, it would be too apparent that she could barely stomach his company. "Come, Arcadius. I'll help you." She bent down to try and prop him up with her muzzle, so he didn't have to further injure his hurt leg.
"Get away from me!"
He batted at her, cuffing her over the head with a large paw. Her vision faded for a moment before she could steady herself, then she snarled. "Fine." Abigail turned tail on him and headed back into the caves, fuming on the inside.
Miguel watched as a noble bear, possible Abigail, bent down to help another bear. It was Arcadius she was helping, so then it was defiantly Abigail bending down. They were mates, and mates helped each othe—Huh?!
He watched Arcadius strike and roar at his mate who was trying to help him up, and watched her angrily storm away, leaving him there. He shook his head in confusion. His family of servants never behaved that way that he saw. He would never understand the nobles.

Bera growled back at Nanuq, pleased her mate was too self-absorbed to notice the insincerity in her words and pleased her knew well enough to praise her choice of him as a mate. Holding her head high, Bera felt her body tingle with excitement, from her claws to her stubby tail. She was queen. Finally. "Yes, let us go," she said.
Humbert watched as his new king and queen showered each other with praise, knowing the king too much of a fool to understand his queen was only feeding his ego, but strong enough for her to willingly stay by his side. It was a sickening sight to behold. Something has to change, he thought as his father and the older guards began to spread out, each taking an apprentice with them, and flanked the new king and queen to their thrones. At this time, a pathetic bear may attack them. Many saw the new king, injured from the royal, as an easy target. Many males had it in their heads the females were too weak to put up much of a fight, so they believed the new queen would also be an easy target. Little did those simple-minded males know that females would rip out their throats of even their adult cubs if they posed a threat to them. Females were not physically weak creatures. No one of their proud race were.
The polar bears of the kingdom were only weak in the head, which made them easy to manipulate.
[Shall we time-skip to the introduction of Armel and Bernard?
Also, wasn't Amaya supposed to have been blessed with the power to shapeshift into a human after helping a female cub descendant from the First Queen?]

[Sure! Ummm... was she? I don't remember that :-/ But how about we just say that all nobles are descendants in some manner from that first Queen, so all nobles, and some of the servants who have noble blood can take a human form.] ~Time Skip~ Nanuq surveyed the bears around him as he sat in his throne of ice. Tonight, there was a mix of bear and human forms, as this was a party from nobles. Those who were in bear form were wearing large rows of precious stones and expensive metals around their necks and legs. Those who chose their human forms for this evening were much the same, but with expensive clothes as well. For himself, he chose this rare occasion to be in his human form, since his mate had wanted to be in hers to wear the new dress she had made for the occasion. It was expensive, but he let her spoil herself. It was what a Queen deserved he supposed, and a King certainly deserved a good looking Queen at his side.
His eyes drifted over to his mate, wanting her to be the one to silence the crowd and make the announcement. There was something he enjoyed about watching her wield her power. Most of the times, with his other relations and women, he enjoyed maintaining power. But with Bera, every so often he could enjoy sharing power. Abigail was in her human form tonight, though it always made her more comfortable to be in bear form, especially when other bears were around. It was her husband who requested she be in human form, even when he was not. He preferred her to be small and pitifully weak in contrast with him. She'd barely even seen the gown he'd thrown at her to put on.
She stood holding a drink and watching her husband, ducking behind the crowd to avoid him if at all possible, while he talked with the other male noble bears. She wasn't interested in pretending to laugh at his jokes and be shown off to the others as his eyes scolded her whenever she said or did something he disapproved. So as she ducked behind a curtain she hadn't been watching, and she bumped into something. "Ooof!" Miguel shook out his fur and looked up at what had bumped into his side, where he had been hiding behind a curtain. His eyes widened in horror when he saw a nobel woman in her human form, staring down at him. He recognized her from the battle royal. "I am so sorry Mrs!" His young voice said immediately, with the guilt clear in it. He had been caught. "I am supposed to be here, I work in the kitchen! But I was just supposed to drop off some new appetizers, not linger, that's what they told me! But... I've never seen a party before, a real nobel party! They're nothing like the ones we have in the kitchen, and I just wanted to see." He bowed his head in shame, "I'm sorry." Abigail's weakness for cubs had her smiling down at the young cub, clearly filled with shame. He would grow up to be good. A good husband and father, one day. She bend down an whispered to the cub. "I'll tell you what. Technically I'm not supposed to be hiding right now either, and so you've busted me as well. I should turn you in, but I wont. As long as you scurry back to the kitchen now. And I hope you wont turn me in either?"
She saw the cub's eyes light up and he nodded his head quickly, thanking her. Then, under the cover of her watchful eyes, he hurried back to the kitchen, and she had her hiding place to herself.

[Yeah, I remember it was in the same conversation when we created the legend of the First Queen. You said Amaya was young (I guess still a cub herself, a little older I would think), she received the blessing bestowed to the First and her descendants by saving the life of a female cub descendant from the First, showing an act of kindness, and thus showing how Amaya has always been a kind-hearted bear. I think we might have decided the cub was a servant and no one knew she was a descendant of the First. That's all I can remember. And I made sure to go through the posts when we first posted as our bears to make sure I didn't miss anything, and I didn't (except Armel said his family and some of the other nobles were descendants of those blessed by the First and her descendants, blah, blah, blah), so we should be good.
But whatever works for you, I am fine with it. It's your polar bear kingdom.]
Bera felt the gazes of the gathered nobility on her, many gazing up in fear, others in adoration, but all were fixed on her. Glancing at her mate, Bera glanced just in time to see his power-hungry eyes gazing at her, inviting her to silence the crowd. One regal smile and one majestic hand raised, and all were silenced like lambs in the slaughter house.
Gracefully, Bera stood up and faced the nobles, her blood-red dress shimmering like the stars against calm ocean waters, her rubies and pearls glittering with the snow, letting her gaze pierce the hearts of all who dared make direct eye contact with her. None even dared. On either side of the throne, her cubs from previous pregnancies were idly standing by, each in their natural forms and each staring blankly ahead as they were taught. She would never let her cubs take the spotlight off her. Bera was the one they were here for, she was the center of attention.
Taking a flute glass, filled with sparkling white wine, Bera held it high in a toast to herself. "Welcome, all of you. It has been two long years since my departure to my maternity den, where I nurtured our future generation. As many of you know, I have chosen to raise our cubs as our race has done for generations. The natural way. I reject how, with each passing generation, the younger bears discard the ways of their parents and their parents before them. How, for generations, we have raised our cubs on the ice-covered oceans and tundra.
"So, for two long years, I have been gone, raising my cubs as my mother, my grandmothers, and their mothers before them, raised their cubs. Stronger than any human-formed cub, my cubs have survived blizzards, whales, and humans. These two are certainly my strongest cubs yet." Then, on cue, her two sons stepped out from the shadows, their steps in perfect sync, as they were taught. They bowed in reverence to her and their father—the only bear she would allow to sire her cubs—and then faced the crowd. This would be their first time meeting their father, their siblings, and the nobility for tonight was not just her welcoming back party, but the introduction of her first cubs born during her reign as queen.
As she gazed at her two sons, neatly dressed in military-style clothing with their long blond hair tied back, with a braid trailing down the right side of their heads. To top off their outfit was a sparsely garnished, matching military-styled caps. Her sons stood tall, hands clasped behind their backs, and faces utterly devoid of expression. It was wonderful. And the roar of the crowd, the loud and joyous chorus of bears, in welcoming her and her cubs sent shivers of electricity down her spine. They were all here because of her, because she had the power over them.
Glancing at Nanuq, Bera smiled, which suddenly sent the noisy crowd into silence. She took a step closer to her mate and said, with the utmost pride for the crowd to here, the names she had chosen for their sons. "Now, my dear king, my lord, my Nanuq, let me introduce you to our sons, Bernard," and the cub on the left, when she motioned to him, stiffened and tried to stand taller, "and Armel." When she spoke the second name, the cub did not stiffen like his brother, nor did he try to stand taller. He blinked at her, like he was thanking her for bestowing a name to him. Actually, now that Bera thought about it, that must be what her cub was doing because she had allowed him to live up to this point. Now this cub, she knew he would be very obedient. He would not dare cross her.
Humbert watched the princes enter the throne room, bored beyond belief by the queen's speech, though he did have to agree with her about raising cubs. When cubs were born in their human forms, they were inherently weaker than their bear-born cubs. It was only natural. Humans were weak and fragile creatures, undeserving of all the things nature gave them. Humbert hoped to one day make it so no she-bear could bear cubs as a human. Those unsightly cubs were better off as whale food than subjects to the crown.
Lost in thought, Hum almost missed the queen naming the two princes. He had heard rumors of the queen only naming her cubs when they survived the two years out in the ice, but he thought it was foolishness. Tonight, the queen proved him wrong. The expressionless princes, like face-painted dolls, stood motionless until the queen said their names. It was only the slightest of movements, but Hum could see how one cub tried to stand taller while the other's eyes shifted toward the queen. What it must be like for cubs to spend two years of their lives without knowing their own names, it was unimaginable to Hum. Never would he wish that on anyone. Her Majesty was an especially cruel one, cruel as her king, a thoughtless oaf.
Until moments ago, the young cub, only two years old as a bear, but appearing like a six-year-old human child, finally had a name. It was Armel. He and his brother, now named Bernard, survived the two years with their queen. It was his desire to properly thank Her Majesty, but she had instructed before the ball that they were not to speak or move unless spoken to. When they had bowed to the king and queen, then the crowd, it was done from instruction by the queen. Two long years of drilling manners and court etiquette into them made the situation effortless. His queen would not see his or his brother's clasped hands trembling behind his back. They were perfect models of obedience. They had survived two years and now would survive the royal court. Remain silent. Obey Their Majesties. Do not think on your own. Armel let the instructions the queen had told him and Bernard like a chant over and over again fill his mind. Disobedience was punishable by death. No exceptions. Cub or blood, death would come.
For tonight, Justine was helping her mother and other maids cater at the royal welcoming ball. The queen returned after a long two-year absence with two new princes in tow. Bernard and Armel. Both were equally pathetic. Still like statues and dressed in human clothing. They were only a year younger than her, but they had all the training of forty-year-old grumps. Justine was glad she was born a maid and not a royal or noble. It meant she could be in her bear form without thought to who would see her in what clothing or jewels. All she had to do was clean rooms and keep them in order, though right now, she was passing out small bowls filled with fish eggs to the snooty nobles.

[ Hmmm... well we'll see then, Amaya could still do that.]
Nanuq listened silently while his wife spoke, watching her and the faces below her. He was distracted by her glittering jewels and fitted dress and nearly missed the beginning of her speech. However he was glad of what he heard.
He really didn't care much for his cubs, this was true. Male bears would even eat their own cubs or the cubs of others in times of hunger. As a last resort, and this was frowned in at court, but it had happened in the past. However if he was going to have children, they were a reflection on him and his wife. If they did not produce strong offspring, they would doubt his ability to sire cubs and Bera's ability to rear them. So he was glad she chose to raise their children the way she did. And he was glad to see their obedience.
He did know females were fond of their cubs for whatever reason, so he decided for Bera's sake he was show them something father-like. "Bernard, Armel, my sons. I am glad to meet you, and proud to see you look strong and healthy." He told them, though he barely looked over to where they stood. One day, when they were bigger, all of his sons could become his competition for the crown. Only one strong one would be allowed to rule when his time came, the others would prove to be too weak.
Abigail was forced to unhide in time for the announcement. If she was found hiding for that, she would be punished by more then her mate she was sure. So she came to stand beside Arcadius's large bear form, putting a hand on his side so she didn't surprise him. His fur twitched in response and he turned a cold eye to look at her before looking back up at the King and Queen with contempt.
What Abigail looked up with was first approval, then sadness. She agreed in raising Polar Bear cubs the bear way, and would hopefully do that same herself if she ever became pregnant. It made them stronger. She didn't however like the way all of the Queen's children looked like robots. She herself wanted to raise a living child, not a fleshy extension of her will. She pitied the new Princes.
Miguel had caught only the end of the speech before he had made it out of the party, and now he ran into the kitchens. "I'm so glad I'm not a noble!" He shouted into the mostly empty servants caves, and headed for the kitchen. "Just think, if I was a nobel, rather then working in the kitchen," he spoke to the kitchen men and women now as he jumped in to help skin a fish with he claws, "I would look like that!" He referred to the Princes, while the kitchen staff cautioned him to be quiet, while wearing small smiles of humor. "Bored and lonely." From somewhere in the kitchen, someone threw a towel at him.

[So long as you like it, I love it, but I would love to see her rescuing the cub from whatever danger she was in. It would generate respect and admiration for her in the servant community. Amaya is amazing after all. And I thought of a way for the nobles and servants to be related to the First Queen without conflicting with what Armel thought, but I don't think you'll like it...]
Armel and Bernard, in perfect sync, bowed to their king once again when he addressed them. Bernard spoke first for their king spoke his name first. "It is the greatest of honors meeting you, Your Majesty. I hope to serve Your Majesty and Her Majesty well." Bernard's high voice held only the utmost respect and sincerity when speaking to the king. Then it was Armel's turn to speak, though his words carried the same as those spoken by his brother. "My strength and health are only for Your Majesty the king and Her Majesty the queen." Armel kept his gaze off to the side, not daring to meet the king's in fear of retribution. Someone like him could not look the king in the eye. Her Majesty made it clear from the beginning that they were tools for her and the king, and he intended to be their tool.
Bera laughed joyfully as her sons showed their devotion to their father, and her. Coming to Nanuq's left side, Bera dismissed her sons, allowing them to mingle with the nobility, before she wrapped her arms around his well-muscled arm, beaming at him. "Such strapping young cubs, aren't they?" she cooed, running a finger across her mate's jawline."Later on, would you like to give them their names in our language? Human names are so trite. The names from our race are more befitting, don't you agree?"
The moment the queen dismissed the young princes, the ball resumed, the nobles more noisy and vain than before. Humberg saw many cubs swarm the princes, all the daughters of the nobles, around the same age as the princes, all trying to catch their attention. It was a pathetic sight to see. Humberg considered himself lucky he was not born a female to the nobility.
Justine swayed through the crowd, mimicking the way her mother moved her hips, and exited the ice cavern. Their trays were empty, but it was no matter, other servants with trays filled with fish and other fatty foods were already present to take their places. After the introduction of the princes, she had grown tired of the crowd and decided to ignore whatever else the king and queen said, though she didn't let it show on her face. Her mother said it was fatal for that type of expression to show.
Once back in the kitchen, Justine grinned as she heard the last words spoken by one of the older cubs, Miguel. "They're not bored and lonely," said Justine as she set her tray down, "They could only do that if they had emotions, which they don't. They're just puppets." "Justinochka!" her mother scolded, but Annabelle knew Justine wasn't wrong. "Were the princes really like that?" asked Collette, though she didn't look the least concerned with the princes. "Are they really just pup—Ow! Dima!" Collette, Justine's sister, rubbed her arm where Dmitri, their brother, swiped at it with his paw. Since she wasn't bleeding, Justine thought Collette should count herself lucky. "Don't speak ill of the princes, Their Majesties will find out," Dmitri warned, his round ears twitching, obviously nervous. The way he talked always made Justine wonder if her brother really was a cub of three years, or an old fart trapped in a cub's body.
[Look at this link I found about polar bears! Most polar bears die between ages of 15-18, which I say is like their 50's if they're human (the snow is a rough life), with some polar bears living until their actual 30's in the wild and captive ones living to 42, which I would say is their 60's to 90's. What do you think, Loiiy?]

[ Alright, when she's a bit bigger she will! Oh no, what is it? ]
Nanuq smiled at his sons, impressed with his wife's training of them. He watched as they moved off to go socialize and were met by tons of female bears, and chuckled to himself, before turning to Bera. "Yes, you've done quite well with them." He replied to her, as she drew her hand across his face. "Much more fitting, they're barely even real bears until they've received them." He put a hand around her waist. "Until then, how about we enjoy this party, hmm?"
For the rest of the party, Abigail was forced to do her duty and stay by Arcadius's side, praising his strength and skill and charm to everyone in site, while he praised nothing about her.
Miguel turned to Justine, one of the many servants he considered family, like an older sister and smiled. "Either way, their lives seem terrible! The kitchen is where it's at!" He barked happily, then winced as Dmitri cuffed Collette on the arm, and he ducked behind Justine, less he be scolded too.
The young guard, James, made his way over to Humberg's side. He wanted to learn from the older bear about his job, but all he seemed to be doing was standing there. So he just stood beside the Captain, watching him out of the corners of his eyes.
[ Whoa! Well we could say that because ours have adapted to live in a group they live longer because they have more access to food, ect. Also, I've been forgetting about James the entire time! gonk ]
