Amphitrite had been busy. Between her attempts at building a corrupt team, her beginning efforts to gather information on what exactly had and hadn't been found during the New Year's mission - her patrol hours had been odd, and she was confident enough in her own capabilities that she'd often been taking them alone. Not to mention her quiet efforts to harvest more starseeds for Umber, an undertaking not all officers were comfortable with.

Tonight though. Tonight, she would not be alone. She'd called Emory earlier and when she'd asked if he wanted a buddy for the night - well, lucky her that his schedule was free. So there she waited, perched at the edge of a park bench, her hands tucked in her lap as she stared up at the sky.

Not with any longing or anything. Just, stars were pretty, and much more interesting to look at than her own lap.

Chrysotile had been busy too, doing his commanding officer's dirty work for him. The verbal reaming he had gotten from Quartz had left him pretty dispirited and disillusioned about the workings of the Negaverse. He wasn't even trying any longer, really, just going out and making sure he gathered enough energy to meet both his quota and the requirements Quartz had dumped on him. That kept him pretty busy at night lately, and he missed his patrols with Amphitrite.

There were a lot of things he missed about Amphitrite. He missed seeing her on a regular basis in general, nevermind just out patrolling. He missed her smile, her no-nonsense approach to life, her acceptance of her situation -- hell, she thoroughly embraced it now. He missed her sweet lips on his, her arms around him…

He shook off that train of thought. There just wasn't enough time for that. Even though he figured the physical contact would be nice, welcome even. He had to focus on what was important: keeping Quartz happy so that his boss was kept happy.

When he saw her on the park bench, though, he couldn't help but smile. Amphitrite was so pretty. "Hey," he called out with a wave. "Long time no see, huh?"

She felt Chrysotile coming, even heard him before she saw him. She looked over her shoulder at his call, pushing her hair behind her ear as she flashed him a coy smile that was entirely deliberate. (There was very little she did these days that was not somehow deliberate.) "Hey there handsome, " she greeted, rising smoothly to her feet with a light rattling of the shells that hung at her hip.

Did it bother him at all that she had received an upgrade before he'd ever gotten a promotion? - did he even know some of the things she'd done in pursuit of power? Did it matter to him then as she stood there and extended arms to him, offering a hug. "Long time indeed. Come here."

When she stood and turned, Chrysotile could see that Amphitrite was just as gorgeous as ever. Even more now that she had gotten an upgrade; her new rank and uniform suited her, and she carried herself with a confident ease that indicated she was in command. He was happy for her, genuinely happy for her, despite his continued failure as a Negaverse agent. She had succeeded against all odds -- her corruption, her memory loss and the loss of the life she had before. She deserved it. He didn't. There was only a little bitterness in him, and it was directed at the Negaverse, not at her.

Still, he had a slight concern that things might be awkward between them now.

With long strides he crossed the park and pulled her into his embrace. Just feeling her in his arms was glorious, and he held her tightly against him, eyes closed as he revelled in the sensation. He held her for a good minute or two before releasing her, stepping back to fully drink her in. "It's so good to see you again," he smiled down at her. "You're looking fantastic."

She really did appreciate Chrysotile, his size and his warmth at her disposal - he was comfortable to lean into, to wrap her arms around, and she felt in his embrace just how much he had missed her. It felt good, being pined for, needed, wanted. It lent her a surge of euphoria that was still not the rush of whatever she'd expected things like kisses to bring back in the beginning... but it was enough, and Amphitrite took distinct pleasure in affection when and where she could.

"Thank you, " she purred, cocking her hips in such a way that said she knew full well how well she'd done by herself, then looked him over as she added, "You too, handsome. You're a real sight for sore eyes." She laid a hand gently on his chest, flashing him a toothy smile. "Tell me, how have you been? We've both been so busy."

"Yeah," Chrysotile said with a wry smile. "I have a new commander now, finally. Captain Quartz of InfoOps. I'm sure you know about him, seems like half the Negaverse does. Anyway, he keeps me jumping. It's good to have an assignment now, though, you know?" Even if it wasn't a great one, or in the division he wanted. At least he knew where he stood in the Negaverse now.

And he still hadn't shaved off his goatee, in defiance of orders.

He pushed those negative thoughts out of his mind. This was a happy occasion -- he was here with Amphitrite once more, after far too long. He didn't want his doubts and worries to bring them down. Pressing a hand against the one she'd laid on his chest, he wrapped his fingers around hers, then brought her hand up to his lips, kissing it lightly. It was so very good to see her again. He wanted to savor it while it lasted.

Amphitrite canted her head inquisitively to a side, and felt a tiny knot of... something twist in her stomach. "No. No, I don't know him, " was there someone so well-known and she was removed enough not to hear of them? It shouldn't have phased her, though. It wasn't as though she couldn't see the Captain out and make herself known in that case. "He must be very skilled to have such a reputation already, " she remarked with a smile. "It must feel good. I'm so happy you've found a place, darling."

It was good. It was good, because slowly, surely, she was forging her own niche in the Negaverse, too.

The kiss to her hand made her smile broaden with a flash of teeth. She tugged the same hand back towards her, firmly holding his, nuzzling affectionately against the knuckles of his hand. "I admit, darling - I had an ulterior motive for calling." She chuckled as she added, "Well. Okay. Two ulterior motives. But one's much more fun, and it'll have to wait a bit."
