It had all happened so fast. She had gone out and within twenty minutes there was some strange new talking cat there, telling her wonderful things and saying she was ready to grow and before she could utter a word, the feline had demanded her pen, and did something to it and now she was…different. Her scarf had more colors and she felt stronger. How cool was that? What a great birthday present!

Elvira pulled out her senshi phone, wanting to tell someone about what happened! She scrolled through the contact list and paused, the cursor landing on Ida.

Ida? Oh! That pretty senshi that she had met so, so long ago! The one who had been worried about her! With a laugh, Elvira opened her text messaging and flung a quick one at the purple clad senshi.

Hi Ida! You might not remember me! I’m Elvira, the chibi of poinsettias! I just had something awesome happen and I want to show off, and it was just my birthday so you should come see me! I’m at the park by the slide and swings!

There! That was sure to bring the older senshi out.

The chibi sat down on a swing and began admiring her new fuku, there were so many things to see, so many little differences, it was so great. Her favorite part though by far was the furry sleeves. They were just so soft and so cute!

She hoped Ida would get there soon, she felt like if she didn’t show off soon, she would burst from the excitement!

The text came out of the blue, startling Orah as she sat at the desk in her room doing the usual round of intensive studying. Her nursing classes were hard, even if she still sort of remembered learning all of this once before. Retaining the information was not a simple task and it took dedication and work to do so.

Thankfully, that same hard work also kept her off the streets and out of fuku, a fact she wasn't really upset about. It was a good excuse not to patrol, a good reason to stay home rather than go out. Or it had been, before she felt her senshi phone going off in her head. The sensation would not leave her and it meant abandoning her books for the balcony of the three bedroom apartment she shared with Arian to power up and pull her phone from subspace. The nagging feeling blissfully gone, Ida thumbed the phone open to find another surprise in the name of the sender of the message.

Elivra? Oh goodness, its been... a year or more? Such a long time... I'm horrible. She's supposed to be family...

There was no answer but 'yes' to the request/demand to come out, not with the guilt of realizing how long it had been since their last meeting. She should have called, or messaged, so something... rather than leaving her to fend for herself for so long. She was a basic, and a chibi even, it was a big failure in the duties she had take on, which seemed to be a running theme lately. Thraen, Florentina, Elvira... how many other relationships had she let languish while she fell apart?

Quote:
Sure, I'll come right out. Give me maybe twenty minutes.

Just enough time to wrap up a few of the cookies Arian had made yesterday and figure out which park the young senshi had meant, arriving at a sedate pace with a little brown paper bag in her hands, the stop stabled shut and little flowers drawn on the sides.

"Elvira!" Ida called as she drew near the swings, lifting an arm to wave. Did she seem stronger...? Concentrating revealed in increase in power to Super and with that came a sudden warm feeling, almost like pride, but tempered. She hasn't come to harm even though I haven't been there to guide her... she's even gotten stronger. That must be what she wanted to show me.

Twenty minutes was a terribly long time. Especially when you were excited for something. Elvira just had to be patient though and she sat on the swing until she heard Ida’s voice cut through the night. With an excited yelp the chibi jumped up, running the last few steps towards Ida and holding out a hand. “Hiiii! You made it! Ida! How have you been? Look at me, I’m stronger now! It took a while but I finally did it, and I wasn’t even trying!”

She was talking a mile a minute, but it was just so good to see the purple clad senshi again…but something was different. “Ida…why are you glowing? You look so pretty! How did you do that? Is that a tattoo or something?”

It was just…so pretty! She wanted to glow too…that was just…that was the coolest thing ever…seriously. Ida was so amazing. “How did you do it, Ida? How can I glow too? Do I have to just get stronger? ‘Cause I can keep trying to if that would let me glow!” What a great thing this was…she got to see an old friend and maybe she would get some secret to be pretty and glowing and…

Tonight was the best thing ever.

The older senshi couldn't keep the pride and happiness from her face as she took Elvira's hand.

"Look at you!" She agreed, laughing. "My goodness, its been a while hasn't it? And you've grown so much! Its wonderful."

Dark eyes swept over the new fuku with pleasure as the questions started up, bringing a new warmth to Ida's face.

"Oh, no! Its not a tattoo. Um... its a bit of a long story, but short of it it was that I was having a hard time, so I went to my planet and remembered a ceremony I did in my old life. It was something all Idas did, to pass on the title, so I did it, and my planet responded. There was a surge of energy and I ended up like this." She spread her fingers, showing the orchid symbol that glowed in her palm. A soft smile curled her lips, though the expression was a little shy. A little reserved. Lenka weighed heavy on her mind, even after working through it with Hver. There was still that... little nagging feeling, that little worry how others would feel about it.

"I don't know for sure why it happened or how to make it happen for other people." The orchid senshi spread her hands again before she let them fall to her sides. "There are other senshi its been happening to, there is a whole group of us now. We've been calling it Transcendence. All that we seem to have in common is that something special happened on our homeworlds, something special that we did, even if what we did was unique between people."

Considering the benefits she enjoyed, it would have been nice if there had been a simple way to give this gift to other people. Maybe someday they would figure it out. It would just take time.

“Well, I’ve grown in strength at least! I don’t know about height, I’ve still just barely reached five feet! And mom told me that since I’m fourteen now, I might not grow that much so…I’m stuck being teeny tiny Elvira I guess…small, but mighty!”

The thought didn’t really bother her…it just meant she’d need stepping stools to reach the top shelf…no big deal.

The chibi listened to how Ida had managed to get all beautiful and glowing and before she had really thought about it, she pulled out her senshi phone. “I’ve been to mine, you know! To Elvira! Would you like to come see it? I didn’t see much, but I liked what I saw of it, there were greenhouses and it was so neat…and I found a rock!”

…like that was even a big deal…but it had been interesting…so…maybe she would care?

…it had sounded so much better before she had said it out loud…

“It was shaped like a poinsettia, so I liked it and I buried it.” She giggled, feeling just a tiny bit foolish. “…maybe that was kind of silly of me, but I do wanna go and check on it…so wanna come with me, Ida? I’d love if you would!”

Ida smiled gently as she listened to Elvira speak, enjoying the enthusiasm and the energy even more than what she might be talking about.

"Its okay to be small. My team mate Athene is small, just about your height, and he does just fine." Size was never something that should hold you back, in Ida's opinion. Maybe you weren't hefty and looming, but you could still hit hard and usually you could move faster. Speed could be a real advantage.

As Elvira whipped out her phone, Ida paused, feeling a little seed of excitement growing. It wasn't often she got to see other planets. It either never came up, or they never offered, and it always felt a little impolite to ask to be taken to a senshi's own special private place. It was something that should be offered, not forced... and that made it even more special, when someone did. She felt trusted, and that feeling warmed her through. Not to mention, they were always fascinating places, all utterly unique and beautiful in their own way.

"I would love to come with, Elvira, thank you! I love to see other worlds." The older senshi was grinning as she tightened her hand around her young friend's, stepping in close to her side. "You found a rock? That's really neat! Why did you bury it?"

It seemed odd, but she was hardly one to judge a choice like that, after everything she had seen. Strange things happened on planets and wonders... maybe it was something significant for Elvira, it was hard to say.

“Yessssss!” The chibi jumped into the air, laughing. “Just be careful, Ida! It’s gonna be cold. It’s really cold there…or at least it was when I went the last time. She held on tight to Ida’s hand, seeming so excited, and with her free thumb, she pressed the center button on her phone, concentrating as she did so.

Her eyes had been closed, ready for the magic of the phone to whoosh them away to Elvira, and she knew it had worked when a cold wind whipped her curls. “Ah! We’re here, Ida! We’re here!”

The snow was still on the ground, and the broken greenhouses seemed just as sad and empty as they had before, to be honest, this place was almost depressing…

“I want to show you my rock, Ida! It was in one of these greenhouses…” The chibi stood on tiptoe, trying to find the one that hadn’t been broken, the one that had still been standing…the one that was still warm…

After a moment she found it, and was confused as to why there seemed to be a light or something coming from it…had something happened?

“It’s that one! Ida it’s that one!” Elvira dropped her friend’s hand and bolted towards the greenhouse, going inside and opening the door, grinning. The grin soon dropped as she saw what was there…where the rock had been. It was something new…something…something beautiful…

A poinsettia plant that seemed to be made entirely out of crystal...how was that even possible? Rocks couldn’t sprout into plants…

Slowly, Elvira walked over to it, kneeling beside it, hand reaching out to touch one of the dainty looking leaves…it was so beautiful…

A teenaged girl, with hair the same brilliant red as the poinsettia flowers that carpeted the surface of Elvira made her way into the crystal greenhouse, the special place that grew the incredibly rare crystal poinsettias, the main thing used to celebrate different things on other planets. She was terribly nervous…it was her destiny to become the guardian of this asteroid…she had known that but…but that didn’t stop her nerves from flaring up at the prospect of actually becoming Sailor Elvira.

She had been identified as the new guardian back when she was nine, and she still couldn’t wrap her head around why they hadn’t started really training her until she was thirteen…and now she was finally having her ceremony of awakening at age sixteen…Her friend, the guardian of Ida had been awakened years before, when she was still a pretty young child…Sailor Ida had experience at being a guardian…and all she had was extensive knowledge of how to really grow a good crop of flowers…

Drawing in a deep breath, the teenager entered the greenhouse. There was a moment of applause, and her parents were there, beaming at her and nodding encouragingly. It gave her hope. They gave her strength.

The cat who had identified her as the guardian was there, a bright object in its mouth.

A henshin pen. Her henshin pen.

Bonnie reached out and took it, holding it tightly in her hand. The cat nodded and she held the pen up, saying the words she knew in her heart. “Elvira Power…Make up!”

The vision ended abruptly and the current Sailor Elvira looked around, somewhat confused.

She felt warm…she felt different.

She was different. User Image

Her asteroid knew she had returned…and in return, it had made her the senshi she was born to be.

Not a chibi any longer.

The young woman smiled indulgently as she held onto her young 'cousin's hand, waiting for the strange feeling of displacement that came with teleporting off the planet. As many winters as she had fared as a senshi, she figured, baring an antartic climate, Elvira shouldn't be terrible to handle... especially if it's senshi had been there and come back fine.

A sudden rush of cold air greeted them as they arrived and Ida drew in a deep, bracing breath, feeling it chill the inside of her lungs. She let it out slowly as she took a moment to look around, taking in the glass structures as Elvira released her hand.

"Wow, this is beautiful..." She murmured, her eyes sweeping over the mounds of snow. It was so different from Ida, with its perpetual gentle summer, but that didn't detract from it. It's uniqueness made it beautiful.

Ida turned as the chibi took off running, her eyes falling on a building that glowed from the inside, the light and shadows it threw across the sparkling snow arresting her for a moment. Long enough to put a little distance between her and her friend before she shook herself and trailed after. She watched as the young girl opened the door and light bathed her, brightening the rich colors of her fuku. She picked up the pace and trotted to catch up, rounding the corner as Elvira bent to kneel before what looked like... a crystal flower? It was gorgeous, but... something was happening. The energy inside the greenhouse was changing... and so was her young friend.

Ida came to a stop inside the door way and watched in wonder, noting how the power signature in her mind swelled and changed, taking on a familiar tone. It didn't feel like a chibi's signature any more and she felt a smile spreading across her face.

"Elvira!" She called as she came closer with slow, careful steps. "Are you okay? You feel... stronger, now. Different. what happened?"

Elvira blinked slowly, turning to look at Ida, slightly confused with why the older senshi looked worried…or whatever she looked. “I don’t know. I saw something and…and then it was just so bright. It was someone and they became Elvira…but it wasn’t me, Ida.” The senshi looked down at her fuku and blinked. It didn’t look any different than it had ten minutes ago…but something was different…something was…something was definitely different and she couldn’t put her finger on it.

“Stronger…?” Yeah, maybe that was it. She did feel stronger…was she…

“Hey Ida…am I not a chibi anymore? How on earth…or rather…how on Elvira did that happen?” She giggled and looked down at the crystalline poinsettia flower that had caused the vision, and saw that one of the blossoms had fallen to the ground…and it looked smaller than the others too. “Hey, this is neat!”

When the senshi picked up the small stone, it glowed faintly and a thin chain seemed to ooze from the small poinsettia pendant. “Gosh, Ida. I’m getting all sorts of neat things today! Look at this!”

She held the pendant out, clearly excited for Ida to give her super amazing analysis on it. Because clearly Ida was one of the best, and she had to know everything.

She glowed for goodness sakes!

The orchid senshi's smile grew as she came to join the former-chibi, sinking down to kneel beside her and the crystal flower.

"I guess you did something, or maybe your planet thought you were ready? I don't really know how it works, or why chibi senshi are even so much weaker than regular senshi... the only ones I really know are you, Florentina, Urda... and this is the first time I've seen one of you change." Elvira picked up a fallen blossom and she tilted her head lightly, watching with interest. There were so many things about their planets that they didn't know about or didn't understand. They were a constant source of surprise and wonder.

When the young girl held it out, Ida reached automatically for it, her dark fingers closing around the cold, smooth stone. Suddenly, she was somewhere else...

The white halls of Hvergelmir stood tall around her in that small hallway and the knight herself leaned in to kiss her cheek. She felt warmed, scared and excited and so many complicated emotions... So much wanting, and when she asked, Hver said yes. They kissed and everything felt perfect and right...

When Ida came back to herself, she was blushing furiously, red creeping across her face. She swallowed, pressing hand to cheek, but she couldn't help the way her lips kept curling up at the corners.

"What... what was that?" She said, trying to cool the color in her face. It had been... like reliving that moment and it filled her with warmth. "I felt like I was... somewhere else for a moment."

Elvira blinked as Ida’s face grew red and she wasn’t sure if the girl was about to have a heart attack or something…was her blood pressure rising? What was going on? “What do you mean you felt like you were somewhere else?”

The senshi’s lip was trembling a little, and she looked down at the pendant, frowning slightly as it seemed like there was a little color to it…or was that her imagination. “Are you okay? Did it hurt you or something? Should I throw it somewhere and we forget about it?”

Because clearly that was the thing to do if something was wrong.

Maybe Ida did look…happy? Or something…she didn’t know, but she was feeling quite worried. “Should I maybe not come back here? I don’t want to bring anything home that’s…bad…” But how could something that was so pretty be bad…It didn’t make that much sense…but that was okay…This place was strange and she was trying to figure out if she ever even should come back up here…

The tension in the young voice drew Ida's attention and to her surprise, Elvira looked almost ready to cry.

"Oh, No sweety!" She rushed, reaching out to wrap her hands around her friend's shoulders. "It was a good thing! I just... I remembered something that had happened between me and... and Hvergelmir. That's all. It was a good something!"

Ida squeezed her shoulders, a soft laugh bubbling up.

"I'm okay, I'm not hurt. If... if that was from your little flower... maybe you should keep it."

"There is nothing bad about this place, Elvira." The older senshi said finally, her voice gentle, but serious. "Our planets are... the source of all our senshi powers. They're safe places that belong just to us. I don't know everything about your planet or what all is here, but... I have a hard time believing there are bad things here. I firmly believe you should keep coming here, if you want to. There is a lot you can learn and if nothing else, it will always be your own special place if you never need a break from things, or a safe place to be for a while. That's what Ida is for me, Elvira could be that for you. And... it really is lovely here."

She lifted her head as she said it, finally get to look the place over that she'd rushed into it. It was... amazing, and so different from the gentle warmth of her own asteroid. She called them cousins, part of a family, but they were very different.

"Have you come here a lot? Explored any of it?"

Oh, oh she wasn’t upset! She wasn’t hurt or anything. Relief flooded through Elvira and her shoulders sagged with it. “Oh good, I was really worried that something had hurt you or something, you looked like you had run a mile or something I didn’t even know what to do!”

The senshi snuggled against Ida for a second and listened to her talk about their planets. It was an interesting thought…that this place was really hers…it was nice, a really nice thing to think about. Like a bedroom that nobody could break into…a place that she could just be herself.

The traces of tears were gone after that and a big smile was back on Elvira’s face. “This was the second time I’ve come up here, Ida, but I really do think I’ll be back, I like it, a lot…and I think I will keep this flower…so long as you’re sure that it didn’t hurt you…” She looked at the pendant for another long moment, then put it around her neck as she pulled away from her friend and mentor. “I think I’ll bring up some blankets the next time I come up here though, it gets really cold!” Blankets were a good idea, even if her fuku had some elements that were designed to keep her warm, but that couldn’t do everything!

“Do you want to come up here with me again sometime Ida? We can have a party! Oh! Or could I go up to Ida with you sometime? I’d like to see what your world looks like…I bet it’s pretty just like you!”

When Elvira leaned into her, Ida relaxed and opened her arms, wrapping the younger girl in them for a warm hug. She might not have known her that long, or as well as she would like, but she couldn't help caring about her rather deeply. Maybe it was sharing an asteroid family, like some mystic connection between them that spanned lifetimes... or maybe it was something simpler and more mundane. Elvira was such a sweet, innocent girl, and she looked to her as something of a guide... how could you not care?

"I would love to take you to Ida sometime." She said, smiling gently. "I like it there a lot, I'd really like to share it with you. Its a lot warmer there."

She laughed gently as she eased her hold, reaching to gently smooth down Elvira's riot of curls.

"I think bringing blankets here is a good idea. You should think about some water bottles and food that you can store for a long time. Maybe some matches, as long as you're careful with them!" She hurried to add. "There might come a time where you need emergency supplies for a stay on your planet and it would be good to have everything you might need here. At least with no people or animals here, you won't have to worry about anyone messing with the stuff you leave."

"Was there anything else you wanted to show me, by the way?" She hadn't mentioned anything, but it seemed silly to waste a visit to her planet by loitering around in one spot. There had to be so much to see here, new and wonderful things left over from the past.

“Oh!” Wow that was a great idea! If something happened on Earth…she could run away here…maybe she could take her brother here and they could be safe and…and that was such a good idea! She would talk to Arias about it and everything would be great. Elvira began making a list of everything she could bring…they could have sleepovers up here! And decorate it for Christmas and oh…oh there were so many possibilities!

“Ida! You are so smart! I love you!” She beamed, looking at the older girl with nothing less than adoration. “I don’t…I don’t know of anywhere else on this place so! I guess there’s no other place I could take you! But next time, next time I’ll know more about it I’m sure! I’ll come back and explore it more next time…I just wanted to show you how neat it was up here!”

Honestly now that Ida had mentioned it…she felt like she should have been more prepared for showing someone around her asteroid! She should have learned more about it before just inviting someone up! But…but she was excited, so it didn’t matter. “Are you ready to go back now? I bet you’re getting cold…I’m going to bring up some jackets for next time just so people won’t get cold!” She pulled out her senshi phone and sighed. “If you’re ready, I am!”
