Keep in mind, however, that if you have beaten a gym leader more than once, such as in order to get an edit, it will be seen as you having earned two or more gym badges from that leader, and the difficulty level of the challenge will increase appropriately - the gym difficulty system cares not how many different badges you have, just badges at all.
Gym Battle Difficulty Rankings
If you have no badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 150 bonus HP.
If you have one badge: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 250 bonus HP.
If you have two badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 350 bonus HP.
If you have three badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 450 bonus HP.
If you have four badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 600 bonus HP.
If you have five badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 800 bonus HP OR 600 bonus HP and 50 bonus ATK.
If you have six badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 1000 bonus HP OR 800 bonus HP and 50 bonus ATK.
If you have seven or more badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use all of their bonus HP and ATK.
If you have one badge: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 250 bonus HP.
If you have two badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 350 bonus HP.
If you have three badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 450 bonus HP.
If you have four badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 600 bonus HP.
If you have five badges: Each of the gym leader's pokemon may use up to 800 bonus HP OR 600 bonus HP and 50 bonus ATK.
