User ImageIt wasn't often that Filibert was truly alone. Ever since the death of his mate nearly a year ago, his trusty companion Cyneburg made a point to rarely leave his side. There were those few occasions when he wanted some silence, though, and today was one of those days. He had asked Cyne to stay behind as he went out for a walk and that if he wasn't back by morning to look for him. He knew he wouldn't get far thanks to his leg, but just in case something happened or he was ambushed he wanted her to know to search for him.

Things had been hectic in the Mlima for some time now. Since the avalanche, really. He missed the life that he had led before, but he knew there was no way to go back and change anything. He had to march on and take life as it came to him, whether or not he liked it.

Limping slowly through the snow, Filibert made his way slowly up one of the shorter mountain peeks that the Mlima called home. He was fond of the scenery that surrounded the pride and when he had been younger climbing the smaller mountains had always been a joy. He hadn't been to a summit in quite some time and, while it wasn't his goal today since he wasn't sure how his leg would hold up, he did want to get up to a higher vantage point to escape the troubles back home.

After a few hours of walking he finally took a break. He found a somewhat snow-less area under some pine trees to lay down, his bad leg stretched out to help with the mild throb. The pain had substantially decreased over the past few months as the last of the healing took place, but the bone had fused in such a way that made his limp permanent even if he tried to walk normally.

This mountain range was her home, her domain. These mountains were hers and nothing would take that from her. Even though she bled and her wings faltered as she soared over the graying plains beneath her. The plains were not hers, but the mountains that surrounded them...those were hers. Starry eyes homed in one in particular, one that was smooth enough, but offered enough cover for the goddess so that she could rest without disturbances.

When she had left last, it had been a grand spectacle that had crippled the enemy of the Mlima Tuokoa, leaving it in pieces and all but disbanded. She had been gone, away from her home range for longer than the goddess would have liked, but at least now she was home.

Well, almost. First she had to land. The pine would make it hard and with the acidity of the needles, there was scarcely any soft grass for her to fall upon. Yes, fall. Her wings faltered, twitched as she dipped them to take her lower to the ground. As the white and green mass grew closer, Shan Furen's heart beat faster until she finally connected with the snow. It was not graceful. She tumbled, her wings tucking in quickly to avoid more damage and her grunts echoed in the stillness upon the mountain as she finally settled after throwing the freshly fallen snow into the air.

Several trees were now devoid of snow, one even broken half-way up, and a grand skid mark could be seen leading to where the goddess now laid, still, but breathing.

Fili had just rested his head on his paws to try to take a short nap when a strange sound met his ears. It was like a great bird was coming in quickly, but the noises that came with it weren't birdlike at all. Save for the massive wings beating in the air occasionally. He lifted his head in time to see something huge blot out the sun, and suddenly everything went dark completely. Whatever it was had hit the tree he was under, sending a massive shower of snow down upon him. Thankfully the tree that was cut in half didn't land on him, otherwise he probably wouldn't have survived.

As it was, he dragged himself out of the snow pile, gasping for air. The weight of the falling snow had knocked the wind out of him. What in the gods name was that?

Standing, he pushed his way out from under the tree to see the wreckage around him. Snow was in piles and the trees were bare, one tree severed despite the width of the trunk. The ground was torn up, snow and dirt and rocks and grass all shoved aside. Half expecting to see smoke trailing from the end of the skid mark, Fili limped along its path to the mass of fur and feathers at the end of it.

He kept his distance, tail twitching with uncertainty. Whatever it was was breathing. He kept silent, ears alert, eyes trained on the massive creature. There was no way he'd be able to run away if there was danger, but something in his chest told him he was not in any. Still, the sheer size and strange hodgepodge of parts - wings, fur, paws, a fluffy tail - kept him at bay as he had no idea what he was dealing with.
