Axton hadn't been actively looking for a new apartment, not really. He'd scanned adds, peeked in occasionally when he passed an open house on his way two or from classes, but nothing serious. He was used to his shared space. His tiny apartment he shared with three other college attending young men. The one that was little better than a dorm, with a communal sort of bathroom, and it's small kitchenette. He'd been used to it, and he'd been complacent enough to simply deal with it. That is, until he'd seen the add on Craig's list. The one requesting a roommate. The one that was for an apartment much larger than his own, with a full kitchen, and a second full bathroom. The one that sat on the edge of campus, within walking distance to all his classes still. The one tat only had one person living there that he'd have to share space with. Ax had only debated about the call for about ten minutes before he'd grabbed his phone and dialed. A time and a date had been set up. Monday at 5:45, after classes. Axton had arrived at 5:40. He double checked that he had the right door, in the right building, then knocked.

Archer had wanted a roommate for one simple reason, and that was to pick up half of the rent that he particularly disliked paying. He was averse to spending money in large quantities as it was, and rent was one of those things where he preferred it to be less, rather than more.
So he'd put out the ad, and about three fourths of the initial offers were discarded, whether because he thought them irritable in some manner, or because at least a half dozen of them were nothing more than propositions to meet up for "a good time." And while Archer normally would not have cared, and would actually have accepted one or two of these, he felt in no mood to entertain as of late, unless that entertainment was messing with Lorne.
There had been a few interviews that he'd already gone through, none of which was accepted for one reason or another. This last one seemed relatively reasonable, however; the person over the phone had at least talked in full sentences and not mere grunting sounds that passed as the merest syllables, which Archer saw as promising.
At the designated time - or rather, a few minutes before - there was a knock at the door and Archer, who had been sitting at the counter, stood up and went over, unlocking it before swinging it open to reveal the young man on the other side.
At first glance, he certainly seemed normal. Archer stepped back to let him in.
"Axton?" he inquired, an eyebrow lifting.

The door opened, and Axton smiled at the young man that appeared on the other side of it. "Yes, You're Archer? It's a pleasure to meet you." A hand was extended in greeting, even as Archer stepped aside to let him pass, but he couldn't quite focus, attention on the apartment. It was, after all, why he was there. "Wow, nice place." Big as he'd been hoping, very neat and tidy. It didn't look like the den of nearly half a dozen college boys, and that was sort of the point. "Thanks for taking the time to meet with me." Maybe it should have been the other way around, given it was Archer looking for a roommate, but being polite certainly couldn't hurt.

Archer did not return the smile, but he stepped aside with a small, simple nod of his head.
"Archer, yes," he said, and shook the hand offered to him, even if he didn't return the sentiment of it being a pleasure to meet anyone. He much preferred living alone to having to share his space at all - but the prospect of paying less money for rent was quite enough reason to choose the lesser of two evils.
"It's not a problem," Archer said, shutting the door behind Axton. "Feel free to walk around, take a look."
The two bedroom apartment was spacious, but not oversized, with a living room and a kitchen in the middle and a bedroom on either side. The kitchen had a high counter with two bar stools, all nice appliances that had been pre-installed before he'd moved in (thanks to the previous tenant), and the living room was set simply, with a futon couch on one side and a television stand on the other. A balcony led off in front of them, with a rather nice view of the city.
"The bedroom on the right side is the empty one," said Archer, gesturing in that direction.

Permission given, Axton was more than happy to wander slowly around the living room, stopping to stand in front of the sliding doors the led out to a balcony. It was a great view, not that the man had a huge appreciation for that sort of thing, but it was nice enough that even he could appreciate it. The layout of the couch, the tv, the coffee tables all worked. The decor was modest, but put together with a discernible eye. There was no left over pizza box on the coffee table. No cups, cans, or bottles littering the assorted surfaces. This was well and truly an apartment, rather than the college bachelor pad he'd been occupying for the last two years. Which was exactly what Axton was looking for. He gave a soft hum in response as he headed deeper, down the hall and to the right. "So what all is included in the rent, and how would that be split?" He probably could have exchanged more pleasantries, but it didn't seem as though Archer was all that interested in that. All business, apparently, which was fine.

Archer liked the balcony for a variety of reasons, though the main one was that he just simply liked to stand out on it and observe everything else that was going on down below. Not only that, but he tended to leave it open on certain days to get fresh air into the place.
Archer let Axton move around at his own leisure, taking a seat himself on one of the bar stools and resting his elbow on the counter, his head propped up in his hand. "Utilities are separate, but the only utilities paid are air conditioning and electricity," he said. "We don't pay or water or heat. Rent, if you're willing, would be split down the middle, the price of which is on the initial ad that I placed."
He smoothed his free hand idly down his leg, tapping at his knee.
"What do you think? Does that sound reasonable?"

Axton spent a long moment in the room that was being offered up, looking over the place. The walls, the outlets, the closet space. Trying to visualize his own things in the space, and smiling at the thought. It would work, he thought, and the price seemed fair, affordable. Heading back to the living room, Axton wandered over to lean on the counter across from where Archer was sitting, hands folded. "Everything sounds very reasonable, but I suppose iI should probably ask. What's your schedule like? I mean I don't need details at all, just...I'm a student, so getting a good nights sleep is important."

Archer straightened as Axton came back, sitting up and turning on his stool so that he was facing the young man across from him, crossing one leg over the other. The expression on his face was not exactly welcoming or pleasant, per se, but it wasn't unwelcoming either, merely quiet and studious and somewhat scrutinizing.
"I'm a student as well," he said, and slid off the stool to pad around into the kitchen, opening the fridge. "My classes are mostly early morning, with some afternoon, so I'm usually home anywhere between two and three. My job is freelance; I work from home, and usually in my room or the living room, so sleeping and quiet should not be an issue."
Archer rummaged around for a minute and pulled out a Coke, offering it to Axton while securing his own.
"I don't particularly care about any habits, though there are a few guidelines I'd like to go over, if you don't mind."

That all sounded just fine to Axton. They had a very similar class schedule, it seemed, so there shouldn't be much of an issue with coming in or out at odd hours, or being loud. Something the student was finding harder and harder come by with his current rowdy roommates. The offered coke was taken with a soft 'thanks' and a smile, and he took s long drink after opening it before raising curious brows at the dark haired man. "Yeah sure." He'd been expecting something like this, it was reasonable. This was Archer's home before it would ever be his, and frankly it soul have seemed odd of the other man didn't have rules or guidelines.

Archer popped the tab on his can and made his way back around the counter to sit down in front of Axton again, relaxing onto the bar stool with relative ease. He didn't answer at first, instead lifting his drink to his lips and taking a sip as he contemplated what exactly he would like and wouldn't like from a new inhabitant.
The can was set down, and Archer idly smoothed a thumb up the cold metal.
"I keep the place clean, so bear that in mind. I like quiet at night, but the walls are solid, so that shouldn't be an issue. Come and go as you please, I'm neither your landlord, nor your parent, so there's no silliness over a curfew or whatever s**t that is, unless you're making a ******** ton of noise at three in the morning."
He took another sip, expression as calm as ever.
"Rent is due by the fifth of every month, after that there's a $75 late fee. You can just write me a check, or give me cash, and I'll pay the full amount. If you want to bring someone home with you, I couldn't give a ********, just don't wake me up or be too loud while I'm studying."
He arched a brow at Axton, wondering if it would overload the young man.
"Sound good?"

Cleanliness was one of the biggest reasons he was looking for a new apartment, so he didn't have any problems with picking up after himself and making sure things stayed clean. He wasn't in the habit of leaving dishes in the sink or laundry all over. For a twenty something student, she was down right near by comparison. Since they'd more or less covered the noise issue, again he didn't have any trouble. Axton nodded along and Archer lay out the relative dos and don'ts of the apartment. As he reached the end the blonde tapped the side of one thumb against the edge of his can before standing a little straighter. "That all sounds just fine to me." He chuckled and took a drink. "I was honestly expecting this whole ordeal to be something of a nightmare, but it hasn't been bad at all." And if this worked out, which it sounded like it would, then the entire process of locating a new residence was going to end up being down right painless.

He liked the way that Axton had not shied away from all of his rules and regulations - it spoke well that he had yet to run away, or seem disgusted or disheartened, but Archer had standards, and he expected those who lived with him to uphold the same ones. It was not that hard, after all.
He took another sip of his drink and raised an eyebrow, head tilted slightly to the side.
"A nightmare because you have ******** up roommates currently, or a nightmare because you expected me to be ******** up?" asked Archer, quite calmly, as though he was discussing the weather. "Yes, it has seemed to go well, which helps to streamline the process."

Axton paused with his can of soda raised to his lips, a subtly puzzled look on his face for the question. Then he lowered it, chuckling as he shook his head. "Oh. No, sorry. I meant the whole process of looking for a place to live. It seems like that doesn't usually go very smoothly. A lot of dead ends and disappointment, you know?" He grinned. "I wasn't expecting the place I look at to be pretty much everything I was hoping to find." At this he glanced around again, head tipping as he did so for emphasis. "You're not a nightmare." Now he took a drink, letting the carbonation prickle on his tongue for a few thoughtful seconds. "At least not so far." It was said as a joke though, as if he wasn't excepting that from the other man, even though he knew nothing about him. "Do you have any questions for me?"

"Ah," said Archer, because there wasn't much else to say on the matter. "Looking for apartments is annoyingly frustrating, but at least the end result is a place to eat and sleep and do whatever the ******** you want. I prefer things a certain way, so anyone wishing to step away from that should do so."
He leaned back and regarded Axton with a slight bit more curiosity than before, an eyebrow raised. It wasn't exactly amusement on Archer's face, but something else, something more appraising, as though he'd not quite thought the other was how he'd thought.
Archer thought for a moment, and then said,
"Any pets, quirks, or kinks I should know about before we start cohabitation?"

Pale eyes flicked up to meet that appraising look, matching it with curiosity. His fingertips drummed against the side of his can of coke, sliding with the collecting condensation. This place seemed promising. The apartment itself was in great shape. Spacious, quiet, and best of all, neat. Archer himself seemed, if not warm and open, respectful at the very least, and didn't seem to impose a great many rules, none of which Axton any any problems with. The basic sort of common courtesies he was leaving his old place in pursuit of. At the question his shoulders came up in a small shrug as the corners of his lips pulled in the flicker of a smile. "No pets, and no noticeable quirks that I'm aware of." And here he paused, that last bit of the question finally sinking in fully. "Ah, kinks?" Head tilting, he looked up at Archer with brows drown in, puzzled. "I mean, that's a bit personal, isn't it?" Very personal, and potentially forward, but Ax still had no idea how to read other men, lacked any and all practice in it, even after his run in with Dustin in the bar. So he tried to rationalize it, down play it, find the logic in that sort of bold line of questioning for a potential roommate. "Nothing loud, or messy, I guess? Or not louder than usual, I suppose..." His voice trailed off as he watched the other man's features, trying to read his expression.
