User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Name: Dorian Aristide Paul

Nickname: n/a

Age: 25

Birthday: June 27

Sign: Cancer

Gemstone: Bloodstone

Blood Type: o-

Fav. Food: raspberry flavoured anything

Hated Food: animal products

School: N/A

Hobbies:

Listening -- Dorian likes to listen. Whenever he can, for whoever needs an ear- whether they have happy stories or sad stories to share. He volunteers at a crisis center, answering phone calls on his days off.

Purging -- Dorian started keeping a journal when he was sixteen. Since then, he has filled three books with his thoughts and anxieties and secrets. He does not write every day, but he writes often. It is a cathartic experience for him. The safest, cleanest way to purge himself-- other than cleaning, which is something he does compulsively. Everything in it's place, and a place for everything. He is very particular about diet and exercise, as well.

Murphy and Rocket -- Murphy is a dog. A brindle pitbull Dorian brought home from the humane society. She is Dorian's best friend, and his baby girl. She has her own bedroom, filled with toys, but she doesn't really use it.

Rocket is a cat. A silver tabby who followed Dorian home one day and never left. She is Murphy's shadow. They keep one another out of trouble when Dorian is at work. Instead of working at work, Dorian doodles a comic exploring the sorts of adventures Murphy and Rocket might be getting up to while he's not home. Such episodes include, but are not limited to, Murphy and Rocket go to the Zoo. Murphy and Rocket Meet the Queen. Murphy and Rocket Save the World.

Virtues:

Bleeding Heart -- Compassionate and empathetic to an extreme degree, Dorian never met a worm that he did not feel for. He cares deeply -about people, about animals, about the rainforest- and experiences the world through a magnifying glass of emotion.

True -- Loyal as the hound of Hades, Dorian is the sort of man who would stand by the Devil if he had a good enough sob story. He stands upon a pillar of what he likes to think of as understanding, and would sooner chew off his own hand than betray the faith of a friend.

Nonjudgmental -- Dorian gets people, and does not feel it is his place to criticize. He walks a fine moral line, and does his best to give advice, but is often confused about what is right and what is not. He is thoughtful and intellectual, soft on ethics but not on feeling.

Scrupulous -- A man as vulnerable to the changing tides of emotion as Dorian is has two options- to either lose his mind, or find some other way to exert control over his life. He is a very particular person, and as meticulous about the details of his private life as he is the make-up of his home. He has as many secrets as he keeps, and does not like to share.

Flaws:

Bleeding Heart -- While it is good to be compassionate, Dorian feels so intensely that it exhausts him. He wants so badly to be an optimist in a world where people are intent upon being cruel to one another, and is often crushed when his efforts at goodness are overwhelmed/confused by an innate ability to empathize with the darkness in a person as well as the light.

Obsessive -- In Dorian rigorous attention to detail and extreme sensitivity combine to make him more than a little bit neurotic. He is a compulsive over thinker, driven by something inside of him that makes it virtually impossible to let things go and move on. He can not abide not knowing, and will pick and pick and pick until he's either found what he was looking for or gotten his a** kicked.

Hesitant Hedonist -- Dorian feels a lot, and he feels hard, for other people as well as himself. This sensitivity gives birth to a sort of hedonism that can be as self-destructive as it is fun. He is sensual, but there is a cork in his wine bottle, and Dorian spends most of his time ignoring a compulsion for intimacy in favour of maintaining control of his life- and of his heart. Sometimes the cork pops, and he goes on a bender, and he hates himself a little bit after.

Naive -- An eternal optimist, despite his own self-destructive tendencies, Dorian is determined to believe in the best of people. This, combined with an innate insecurity, makes him an easy target for manipulation and mind games.

Knight Title: Memphis, Page of Venus - a city originally founded before the 31st century BC

Challenge: TBD

Uniform: N/A

as a page: Memphis wields a simple feather.

as a squire: Memphis's feather has transformed into a cutlass. The blade is made out of red glass, and shaped like a feather. The hilt is simple. Bronze. It is durable, but dull.
xxxthe magic: Wielding his glass cutlass, Memphis has the power to sever ties of loyalty temporarily between allies in battle; turning friends against one another, and inspiring a feeling of passionate love for him. The pool of magic he draws from lasts 40 seconds, and needs to be activated while Memphis stands between two people in order to prove successful. It is only effective on a pair of soldiers. Facing an opponent 1 x 1 this magic is effective in that it severs, temporarily, whatever ties of love the opponent might feel for someone else-- inspiring a feeling of passionate love for Memphis.

as a knight: Memphis's feather cutlass is larger and longer, but still made out of glass and just as fragile. The feather looks sharper. The red colour of the glass is more vibrant. It glitters like sunstone. The hilt is gold, and curls around his hand like a basket.
xxxthe magic: Wielding his glass cutlass, Memphis has the power to sever ties of loyalty temporarily between allies in battle; turning friends against one another, and inspiring a feeling of passionate love for him. The pool of magic he draws from lasts 60 seconds. Memphis does not need to be standing between his targets in order for this attack to prove successful, but he does need to be standing within eight feet of them. It is now effective on a group of up to four soldiers. Facing an opponent 1 x 1 this magic is effective in that it severs, temporarily, whatever ties of love the opponent might feel for someone else-- inspiring a feeling of passionate love for Memphis.

Hey, Gee! Great profile! The civ side looks great but before I can stamp the powered side, I have a few questions!

The magic sounds like a feasible attack, but I was wondering if you could give me an idea of your inspiration for it? The power themes for Venus are "beauty, passion, love," and in reading the magic you have written it doesn't seem to reflect these—but! I think there might be an easy solution resolved with some wording changes! Perhaps the motivation behind the attack is that Memphis' magic causes two characters to feel a temporary love for him, inspiring them to fight amongst their allies in order to earn his affection?

I also wanted to clarify, when you say it is only effective on a pair of soldiers does this mean that it is only effective on powered opponents (generally of the Chaos variety?).

The other thing I wanted to touch on was the cutlass; generally knight weapons cannot be bladed or sharp at all. He could have an item in the shape of a cutlass and it could be fragile, but it would not be allowed to actually slice and would have to be dull. Because of this, if you wanted he could still have a blunt cutlass made out of glass, but you could say it was magically durable? This way he could still have a blunt weapon to use without worrying about it being fragile (unless you wanted to keep it fragile!), but otherwise it should mention specifically in the profile that it is a blunted weapon (sorry!).

There were two other things I wanted to touch on—the first is that I think there is a small typo in his powered write up where he is listed as Cosmos, but I just wanted to let you know in case it got missed! The second thing is that the attacks are good, but I was wondering what sort of effect they would have if there was only one opponent? Most battles tend to be in one on one settings, so his magic might put him at a bit of a disadvantage since it is written to work on two people. If you are fine with that, that's okay! But if you wanted to adjust the magic a bit, I think you could also go with something like the previous thing I mentioned—where his magic causes characters to feel temporary love for him and inspiring them to earn his affection? That way in the event of only one opponent, he can still get some use out of his magic, but you can keep it so that when facing two opponents this will inspire conflict between the two of them? (As a note on inspiring affection; the targets will generally be more easy to influence and will want to please the caster but would not be able to reveal identity or kill themselves or anything, but they would be much more susceptible to the commands of the caster or do things to try and please them). So, that isn't a necessity to change, but I did want to pitch the idea if it was something that might interest you!

SORRY FOR THE WALL OF TEXT

But if you have any questions or comments or make any changes, please quote me and I'll be back as soon as possible!

EDITED THE STUFF. FINALLY.

On the subject of my original attack idea-- I really like the idea of 'severing' because his weapon progression is a sword. I understand that Venus' power theme is "beauty, passion, love." Those words are really loaded. There is a great deal of potential for destruction in passion and love, and I justified his original magic design with that in mind.
