There was one problem with being the senshi of night Alphard figured. It was that he did not sparkle as much as others might have suspected her was capable of sparkling. His cloak was nice, but it hardly compared to people like Teide. She was made of sparkles and had a dang ball of stars. Now, he saw someone else with sparkling cloths, which kinda looked like Teide's bag, and it got Alphard wondering more about knights on a whole. They seemed sadder than most, and no one seemed genuinely happy to be magical. Going to what he knew, (or sort of knew), Alphard followed the lady with the big hair and sparkle stick and dress, eventually calling out. ""Hey, hey lady hey!" With the most basic attention grab he could have ever have used.

On most occasions, Hvergelmir was all too happy to meet new allies, whether knights or senshi. Tonight should have been no exception, since she had a few hours yet before she had to be at her bench . . . except that, along her walk through the theater district earlier, she'd run afoul of some sort of squishy pod youma with blue Boston-Creme filling for blood, and in dusting it, she'd ended up spattered down most of her front with blue liquid that made it look like she'd just robbed a bank and forgotten to check the bag of cash for one of those explosive ink bombs before making her getaway. What she wanted was a bath, or at least a sink. Maybe a fountain to wash herself off in. What she got, instead, was a senshi calling out for her attention. She turned, about sixty-five percent blue from the front, and managed a very chagrined smile. "Sorry," she said. "Can I help you?"

Alphard stopped dead in his tracks. This was... interesting to say the least. "Uh." He motioned to her front. "You have a bit of blue on you." He also said what else was obvious, to him at any rate. "It's not doing much by way of modesty either." He pulled off his cloak and held it out to her. "I don't need it back. It'll vanish when I stop being a sparkle scout and junk but yeah. That's what I wanted to ask about- You one of those knights? Or another senshi? I'm not quite sure with everyone's get ups but ya know- didn't get much info." Shazari I assume it's sticking to her and being gross :C worst youmas

Embarrassed, Hvergelmir rubbed the back of her neck with her hand. This, unfortunately, only succeeded in adding another smear of blue to her already very smurf-like countenance. "Thank you, that would be -- yes," she said awkwardly, grateful for the offer. She wasn't fond of the filth, but she also despaired of the scene it would cause to be seen covered in blue goo by a great number of people. Better to downplay it, even a little. The senshi's question, however, was concerning. Where Hvergelmir was used to some degree of confusion from knights, she expected senshi to be better provided for in the information department. They, after all, had the support of Mauvians to see them through in their powered lives. Surely they shouldn't have been able to be so ill-informed? "I'm a knight, yes," she said with a worried frown. "The clothing can sometimes be an indication, but -- more than that, we should feel a little different to you. Sort of a hazy radiance you can pick up from people around you, the kind that makes other senshi feel friendly and Negaverse agents and youma feel threatening. Have you ever felt your hackles sort of go up when a youma's around, even before you realized it was there?" She paused, considering the mini lesson. "You should be able to pick up on the auras of powered people and youma around you, when they're close. For me, other knights feel the most familiar, the most in tune with me -- like they're my own kind -- and senshi feel friendly, not the same as me, but like we're compatible. Other knights feel like I'm hearing something that's on the same melody as me, and senshi feel like they're resonating in harmony, if that analogy helps. Negaverse agents and Dark Mirror Senshi and youma -- anything that uses Chaos energy -- radiates a discordant feeling, jarring, like an off note." Her frown deepened. "A cat awakened you, right? Gave you a pen?"

"You feel okay. Good but not okay. I try not to judge of think too hard on it. s**t is weird enough without getting in too deep." He understood what she was saying however. Knights, like her and Teide, they were not the same as other feelings he got sometimes. Other flickers of something just off to the side of his senses. "Youma are like, bad vibes. The chill you get when you see a cop coming round the corner after you smoked a blunt. Your way of describing it- that's legit. It doesn't mesh." He tucked his fingers into each other. She was bright to him this close. A warm hum that was nice. Not the best, but nice. "And yeah cat did the thing, but honestly I was high as hell and half asleep. They gave up after a while and kinda ditched me when I wasn't interested in listening to a recital of space opera. I mean, from what I gather, we're living in a big old space opera. Two people got hot and heavy for each other, and now, we're dealing with the fall out. Romeo and Juliet, the aftermath." He frowned for a second, taking off his sash and reaching out to help her wipe some of the blue away. "You're smearing it- You could probably rinse off in a fountain but 's bit cold for that. But yeah. They didn't explain knights, and I forgot to really ask Teide about them."

Hvergelmir frowned deeply. This was Teide's friend, the one she'd mentioned. Jenna had been so upset. "Things are more than just weird," she said softly, letting the senshi wipe her face like she was a child who'd gotten hold of the mixing bowl after the brownies were in the oven. "Things are very, very dangerous. You could be killed -- it doesn't matter if you'd rather stay out of things. I know it all seems crazy, but. Please. Please try to learn what you can." She smeared at the top of her arm with already-blue-smudged cloth. "Knights are like you, like senshi -- but senshi represent large stellar bodies. Planets, stars, constellations . . . that sort of thing. Knights represent various powerful places within that. Cities, landmarks -- specific concentrations of ancient power. We have knights of Mercury, knights of Earth, knights of Mars and Saturn . . . all the planets, and some other stars besides. Teide and I are knights of the Cosmos . . . in our case, that means we're knights of small landmarks all out on their own in space, not attached to anything larger."

More than just weird was a better way of saying it. It was confusing and complex, something that Mehtab aka Alphard took pains to generally avoid. Sure he'd get into it with people, but not when uninformed, which he was. It would end in poor debate and poorer understanding. "I am trying, but the that's part of why I find it difficult. It seems without purpose, that we fight because of things that both sides cannot work past or discuss. I am all for fighting our capitalistic patriarchal society, because I know about it. This war is just.. a lot of loose ends and conjecture. I've tipped cars for justice, but not for reasons I don't get, you feel me?" He spoke plainly and yet he wasn't speaking passively. His remark about tipping cars was not exaggeration as it simply was a thing he'd done. It had been a police car and he'd learned to run very very fast that day. "That does make sense though with names I guess." He paused looking at her, "So why the name of a myth and then the name of a mountain? How come Teide gets a mountain but you're a place that doesn't exist? Are you like some... Cosmic homeless knight?" A look of concern washed over him. "You aren't homeless are you?"

Hvergelmir smiled at Alphard's second question, at his earnest concern that she might, in fact, be homeless. "No," she said calmly, "I'm not at all homeless. In fact, my island -- my Wonder -- is exactly where it needs to be. It's something like an ancient interstellar fueling station." She sighed. "Actually, I'm afraid it's my answer to your other question that's going to disappoint you. You see -- " Hvergelmir folded her hands behind her back. " -- there is no purpose to this war. There is no ideological conflict. We fight this war because people before us fought this war, and because neither side is willing to lay down their weapons for fear of being overrun. This is nothing but an arms race."

Visibly calmed that she was not some wonderless knight, Alphard couldn't help but wonder how one did travel in space. He chalked it up to magic. Maybe they did make up the moon landing after all. He'd revisit that theory later. But this knight was right, he was disappointed. Not even an interstellar space patriarchy? "So it's just... a pissing contest?" He stared at her, as lost as before looking a tad bit alarmed. "We got magical powers, monsters, and people fighting... because nobody wants to admit they don't have the proverbial smaller d**k?" He shook his head, not wanting to think it. "It's a war about nothting?" He had to ask. "Not even space capitalism?" At least say they had something.

"Not even space capitalism," Hvergelmir confirmed dismally. "Sorry. The Negaverse is led by a being called Metallia -- and she tells them to kill people and drain their energy in order to give her power. But the party line on their side is that we're aliens trying to conquer Earth and they need all the power they can get to stop us. Whereas on our side, most people are fighting because they're trying to protect people from being killed." She shrugged. "All that matters on either side is their fear about what would happen if they stopped fighting."

He felt a tiny part of his anti-establishment heart break. Not even space capitalism. What were they fighting over if not something to basic as that? The name didn't matter, evil was evil but- these were people he was up against. People ordered by people while they, the senshi and knights had... who exactly? As far as he knew, they just fought back. Like all grassroots groups did. "That's messed up." Was all he got out at first, thinking to what Hvergelmir was saying, as he was trying to rationalize it in his head. "I was born here, raised- Alien being- Like. We're space but not legit space babies. I would know, I had to do a test once to confirm my mom was my mom and s**t like, I'm legit. So they kill people while claiming they're protecting- What the ********?" He slumped. "That';s ******** up. But so wait, if they call us aliens, aren't their knights of Earth? They're for earth so do they fight the negas too? Or is that some kinda inner knight secret thing?" All questions he didn't stop. "If we just want to protect and they wanna protect why can't we immigrate? Or is their leader like Trump but for space cases like me? Close the boarder and s**t?"
